Happy Saturday Stans! Here’s a little Beyonce positivity for you this morning..

Pop it for more details and a gang of pics…

Beyoncé spoke in downtown Brooklyn, New York, at the Phoenix House, a nonprofit recovery center for drug and alcohol addiction, to unveil a project she and her mother, Tina, have dreamed of and worked on for years: the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center.

According to the press release, the program is “a seven-month cosmetology training course for adult men and women.” L’Oréal has donated all the products to be used at the center, and their spokeswoman Beyoncé, along with her mother, have pledged to donate $100,000 annually. After brief remarks by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Tina Knowles, among others, Beyoncé graciously took to the podium to explain both her ties to the house — she first visited in 2007 as part of research for her role as Etta James in “Cadillac Records” — and her hopes for the program.

While Phoenix House provides varied vocational training, “I felt like they needed something that was geared towards women — something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House,” Beyoncé explained about why she chose to fund a beauty school. Her mother also owned and operated a salon in Knowles’ hometown of Houston.

“I saw that a salon was a place for women to socialize, share stories, cry, laugh and get advice,” she continued about her experiences growing up around a beauty parlor. She was close to tears as she added, “Most importantly, I saw the joy it brought my mother, knowing she was a part of their transformation.”

B admired the strength of the women and men who’ve chosen to go to Phoenix House, citing the stigma placed on the disease of drug and alcohol abuse, and that while none of them chose to be addicts, they have all “chosen to get better.” As the speech ended and a brief set of photo ops — including the cutting of a ceremonial ribbon — began, Beyoncé took to the microphone one last time. “It’s a very proud day for me and my mother,” she beamed.

How nice…

This is such a grand jesture. What was the name of the school she opened in Houston? It seems like PR to me. Regardless, with hard work this program should make a positive impact for a very, very long time. Good Luck!

  • Maeve

“Beyonce Knows”. She has a knowing spirit, always keenly aware of the details of life. She’s super-sensitive and that’s something I always liked about her. I do believe the whole Sasha Fierce thing was a diabolical move and it was deeply disturbing to me. But overall, I know she’s a good person with a big heart. Tina must be extremely proud of her.

  • chaka1

Go Head Tina! Divorce does a body good. Drop that dead weight…

  • Blasian

I JUST LOVE HER! TRULY AMAZING!

  • Jewel

The public, crack me up. When celebs so something publicly, “it’s PR”, when it’s done privately, “they’re selfish and greedy” I.e. Jay Z.
A projects like this takes an awful lot of planning and that placed touched her enough to make her want to help those ppl. Why do ppl always focus on the negative? U must be miserable.

  • flawda

If yall don’t donate money and volunteer, then you should not be asking or telling Beyonce what to do with her money. It’s always the people who don’t do shyt who are expecting celebrities to do stuff for their community, they are not obligated to do anything.

  • home is where the heart is

This is great news for struggling Black Americans BUT TINA AND BEY MUST MAKE SURE THAT FOREIGN BLACKS DONT RUSH TO STEAL EVERY OPPORTUNITY THEY CREATE AT THAT SCHOOL

I’m a huge beyonce fan and even if I wasn’t they r still doing a great thing! Obviously she is doing sumthin right she keeps the haters talkin lol and her husband said it best “Jealousy is a weak emotion you got to overcome that”

  • http://bossip.com too cute

good for them,I can’t believe all these rappers and singers in New York havn’t done that yet, sad, all those years, wonder why she decided to do this,is it from the heart or publicity.

  • ***JUDY***

    I think it’s wonderful.

  • Ms.ViVi

    I agree with chaka1

Look at Miss Tina, I know she has been trying to keep it together and I am happy that she seems to have a close relationship with Beyonce. While her husband and his foolishness goes downhill, Mama Tina aint miss one step.

I love how us “strong-high esteemed women” seem to get a burst of energy after a break up. She looks better than I have ever seen her before.

The school is a great thing. I wish them all the success for doing something positive. :)

  • Honut Sinti

Ms. Tina is definitely the fierce one!

  • InconspicuousLady

By no means am I a ″Beyonce stan″ but I will give credit where it’s due. She’s always giving back in some form yet we can only focus on the negative… Grow up people

  • juliemango

Mom looks good. That Bey dress is transformin. Who said Bey had no brains???? Its great that she is honourin her mom’s legacy of hairdressin and transformin other ppl’s appearances and lives!!!bravo!!!

  • ProMAC

Ying-Yang, black/white, balance of positive and negative energy. Beyonce’s white is meant to outshine Tina’s black and make her look pristine and upright.

What are the guys going to do? I guess it’s manly for the females.

  • hmmmm did i hit a nerve?

    beyonce is so damn fake.

  • I’mJustSayin’

There are sooooo many ways that Beyonce could have improved the lives of Brooklynites struggling through any of the number of social ills that are so prevalent in the area. Instead she chose to open another beauty school. I’m not impressed as this whole spectacle is clearly very self-serving.
There are small organizations that are hungry for funds to, among other things: purchase graduation and/or prom outfits for kids who can’t afford them; teaching young (and older) people the importance of and steps toward homeownership (especially necessary since they probably grew up in a family of renters and don’t understand the concept); entrepreneurship programs, etc. So many people are lacking life skills that prevent them from understanding how to elevate their station in life. Many adult Brooklynites do not even have a bank account or know why they should. Sad but true.
A comprehensive program and facility in Brooklyn that could address many of those areas would be something significant she and her husband could contribute to his hometown.

  • Theorius Stylez

They wont let me post anymore because I’m teaching.

  • rum&indigo

just what we needed… more cosmetologists.

  • Ara

Wow, when someone does something good there’s seven or more caught on a fence saying negative things, that’s why celebs stay incognito with their chariable deeds.

  • Shuante

This is all just a stunt to me. The school is supposed to be located in the DUMBO area of Brooykln as I understand. Calling is the Dumbo Center of Comsetology or something of the sort wouldn’t be a good idea, because no one would know Beyonce was behind it. That’s very tacky to have a charity named after yourself. It’s not supposed to be about you. And I get it, you wanted something you can relate to so you chose a salon. But not every recovering addict wants to be a cosmetologist. Having a center that will teach all around job skills (computers, ethics, business) thats going to be something lasting and that they can use in all careers. I don’t buy it. It’s all about getting POWER!! No one wants to be like Oprah anymore, they want to be better, yet its not sincere

  • shineice1017

BUT SHE COULDN’T OPEN ONE IN HER HOMETOWN! WOW!!

  • Ara

Well, it’s whatever she wants to do ……

  • Roberta Black

  • tracey
