    LOL

    anyways its no surprise that she won but congratz to her!

  • True Diva

    YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH MONIQUE!!!!! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE COMMENT ABOVE. USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO BREAK DOWN BARRIERS FOR BLK WOMEN! PLZZZ…. ISN’T SHE THE 3RD BLK WOMAN TO WIN AN OSCAR???

  • YaYa Sisterhood

    Roles for women dry up anyway when women reach a certain age. That is why you still see Denzel Washington but not Hallie Berry.

    Congrats to Ms. Monique.

  • Dilla

    I was so happy when they announced her name, congratulations Monique you sure deserved it.

  • Doc

    Hollywood loves fat black chicks!

  • Mrs. Rance

    Many black folks weren’t feeling it? What you should have said is “We know many black folks wouldn’t know a powerful film if it came up and pimp slapped them, but thank goodness the academy is more knowledgeable.” Mo earned that 10 times over and I’m glad she got the credit. But what I’m most grateful for is that she didn’t make a full of herself during the acceptance speech.

  • Ms.ViVi

    Who would have known that screaming

    “Precious…take YO A$$ down ta DA wel FARE..” would win an Oscar.

    Congrats to Monique thats amazing.
    Lets hope she continues to do well and win more
    unlike…

    J-Hud
    Halle B

  • anonymous

    Congratulations Monique. Great speech. You almost ruined it for yourself with your selfishness and your defiant attitude.

  • Mrs. Rance

    full=fool

  • ugh whatever

    No doubt she deserved it and everyone knew she was a shoo in for that award so why was part of her speech rude and bogus to the other nominees abt performance and not politcs wtf monique and didnt halle thank every black actress ever why was monique making it racial, thats the last oscar her ungrateful self will ever get. She is such a douche. lots of white and black oscar winners fall off after receiving that award its not abt being black.

  • MONA LISA

    although some people are happy for Monique’s win. I was however dissapointed with her comment about thanking “the acadamy for choosing the winner on performance not politics” this implies that had any other actress won it.. they wouldn’t have deserved it, and it would have been a political choice, and i think that was a “slap” in the face to the other nomines.

  • Gimmeabreak78

    @Mrs. ViVi

    Who would have known that screaming

    “Precious…take YO A$$ down ta DA wel FARE..” would win an Oscar.

    I was trying very hard not to laugh at that comment, but I couldn’t help it. :)

    I hope Lee Daniels will eventually get the recogition he deserves.

    _______________________________________________

    Hmm…I didn’t infer that at all for her comments. I thought she was referring to many people’s uneasiness with the controversial subject matter of the film.

  • Mrs. Rance

    Ms. ViVi

    Give J-Hud a chance. She’s got the Winnie Mandela role coming up. I’m expecting big things from her. Halle has never been the most talented actress in the world. There’s only so much she’s even capable of doing.

  • Keepingitreal

    lets call a spade a spade, the oscars can be racist

  • nooo

    she def didnt deserve it ,its so many other black actors and actress that work hard on their craft that shouldve gotten it before her.
    im not even trying to hate. i knw ppl gna say sumthng bout wht i said anyway

  • frances

    Congrats Monique.

  • wow

    Wow the Oscars been around for decades and only a handful of black folks have won…

  • Gimmeabreak78

    @MINDONMONEY

    No they don’t want to see beautiful Halle Berry on the screen because she represents black beauty at its finest, they are more comfortable with the Oprah lookalikes.
    ___________________________________________

    You make interesting comments about how “they” (white people?) see “us” (black women). However, it’s striking to note that according to you, “black beauty at its finest” is half white (Halle Berry). It begs the question, who really has a skewed perception of black women? Just a question.

  • Dari

    @ Gimmeabreak78 – you totally read my mind. When I read that I was like “huh? So black has to be mixed with white to be at it’s finest?” Sigh….

  • TBE

    BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED,,,, AND AMAZING….CONGRATS MONIQUE! I APPRECIATE U!

  • Somali Ninga

    @ Dari
    Blacks have to be Somali to be at its finest!

  • MsOfficer

    This was great I tell you, great. +3 for African Americans tonight!!! (They didn’t have to show that clip of Precious running w/ the fried chicken like that, though)

    @Lisa

    Don’t forget Three 6 Mafia winning for “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp”.

  • kigali- Life for Dummies

    I am upset Sandra Bullock one. Thats crap.

  • Somali Ninga

    @ kigali
    sandra won? SMH gabby got snubbd real hard this year! racist hollyweird

  • LusciousToy

    Monique knew she had a chance of winning so she should of shaved her damn arms & legs…why does she refuse to shave??? lol

  • GET REAL

    To be totally honest, after seeing her competion in the best actress catergory Mo really didnt’ even have a close 2nd to worry about. All of the other best supporting actress nominees this year looked boring & dull.

  • Ms_NYC

    Did anyone else notice how bad her attitude was? She was almost arrogant. As much as I am all about black empowerment, I almost feel like I would have rather that she not win. She should be more humble…

  • real black is chocolate

    and she’s real black and real talented not like fake azz wh0re Halle Berry! Congrats Monique!

    @MINDONMONEY

    Halle Berry not black just like your fake azz mixed/Light-skinned kids so stfu….u f’ckin stupid ugly azz self-hatred black b’tch!!

  • duchessny

    Whoopi Goldberg won Best Supporting Actress for “Ghost” not the Color Purple. The Color Purple cast or director was nominated for an Oscar.

  • Somali Ninga

    On a postive note “Music By Prudence” won Best Short Do©umentary. Its about a disable singer in Zibabawe(cant spell)! Btw the director of the docu was black so…

  • Marquis de Sade

    Color Purple had 11 nominations, and came home with ZILCH, and justifiably so! I vividly remember durin’ its’ theactrical release, THE N.A.A.C.P. staged a nationwide protest due to its’ stereotypical potrayal of n.!.g.g.a.h.s., and after it was SNUBBED by the Academy with no wins, the same N.A.A.C.P. cried RACISM, and threatened a nationwide protest of The Academy, before they were reminded of their hypocrisy. THE NATIONAL ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE, INDEED!

  • Marquis de Sade

    Somali Ninga

    How was it terrible? It was a faithful adaptation of the graphic novel, which depicted the total deconstruction of the super hero persona as being the embodiment of n.o.b.i.l.i.t.y. and selflessness.

  • B3 Fearless

    I’m happy for Monique.

    And it’s a shame we couldn’t go 1 day without negative comments on a positive event happening in a Black celebrity’s life. This is a once in a lifetime moment that she will never forget and will probably never happen for her again!

    I didn’t see anything wrong with her speech. It was short and to the point.

  • http://thefashionlounge.yuku.com thefasionlounge.yuku.com

    Congrats Monique. The screenwriter of Precious also won an Academy, but I didn’t catch his name. Congrats all around.

  • Marquis de Sade

    Somali Ninga

    If you’re familiar with Alan Moore’s graphic novel, then you’d realize that it was intended as a character study, not your “GENERIC” action packed spandexed super hero comic adaptation…Hell, their costumes was purposely over the top as a way for Alan Moore to convey the ridiculousness of their lifestyle and existence…Even they (the protaginous) knew they were a JOKE! (With the lone exception of Rorschach), which was just a modern day Don Quixote.

  • B3 Fearless

    Monique’s comment about the Academy choosing performance over politics, I didn’t interpret that statement as anything against the other nominees.

    I interpreted it as her refering either to the awards process or her open marriage comment.

    Remember she got flack earlier about not going to some places to promote the film. People don’t realize that at the end of the day the awards can be a popularity contest. The actors go on the circuit to promote the film, network and basically kiss voters butts.

    And we all know how unpopular her open marriage comment was received.

    Who knows? Who cares? At the end of the day she won! Congrats to her!

  • Marquis de Sade

    Ooops! *protagonist* Too much Capt. Morgan.

  • Marquis de Sade

    ebonieladi

    Uhhh, what about Louis Gossett, Jr.? – And what was so “STEREOTYPICAL” about Sidney Portier’s role in Lillies in the Field? It wasn’t as if he played some “STEP IN FETCHIT” Rochester-like caricature?

  • Marquis de Sade

    Ooops *to put us*

  • and the Oscar goes to….

    and another thing…Monique and her “open marriage” garbage she was telling the world about is just another symptom of problems in the community. Really, is it like that now Black women? We have just accepted men hitting and running to keep one??? Mo’Nique’s acting was on point without a doubt, but her personal life proves my point clearly..Problems, problems, problems people!!

  • Marquis de Sade

    ebonieladi

    Ooops! Mis-read your post regardin’ Sidney Portier. Too much Capt. Morgan. Sorry, disregard the last query, but the Louis Gossett question still stands.

  • Marquis de Sade

    and the Oscar goes to….

    Yeah, but we’re more than “PROBLEMS” – As far as Mo’Nique’s personal life goes, somethin’ tells me, she’s playin’ the same game as some of her white counterparts in order to hype her own “CULT OF PERSONALITY”, i.e. THE DAMAGED TORTURED ARTIST routine…Hell, on Barbara Walter’s, she revealed her brother (allegedly) sexually molested her as a child. (Sounds like more “HYPERBOLE” to promote the whole LIFE IMITATIN’ art b.s. to me).

  • and the Oscar goes to….

    Note: They got Vin Diesel’s half black behind out of Hitman before it was produced in 2007. I laughed when I even heard he had the lead role because I knew it would never happen – not in Hollywood – LOL

  • Marquis de Sade

    R.I.D.D.I.C.K.

  • blacklady

    im proud of you mo mo

  • Marquis de Sade

    and the Oscar goes to….

    I disagree, with your a.s.s.e.s.s.m.e.n.t. of Tyler and this (alleged) lack of clout with Lion’s Gate. He’s by far their most lucrative and Consistent money maker, and considerin’ most of his productions are produced for 20 million or less, i’m certain he can greenlight more progressive fare and still mine his Madea cash cow well to placate Lion’s Gate.

    Vin Diesel’s relationship with Fox was probably more due to his inconsistent performance of late at the B.O., (with the lone exception of his Fast and Furious franchise).

  • and the Oscar goes to….

    @Marquis

    Keep defending Tyler…But he still gets up and puts on the dress and wig to make his cash. He knows that’s how he will get another mansion out of Hollywood. So many Black people sell their souls to get their foot in that golden door, and still they are standing there with the mops and vacuums, not the real pull it appears they may have.

    However, I agree, he and Oprah could probably stop the madness anytime they want, but will they??? Depends on the paycheck and the money backers I think. I wish I could be more positive, but at the end of the day, they want to be paid too.

  • Marquis de Sade

    and the Oscar goes to….

    I’m not defendin’ Tyler, but just reinforcin’ the notion that he can do more, if he so desired too…Oprah, on the otherhand, is a lost cause. Her mindset is too entrenched in that whole COLOR PURPLE/AUNT JEMIMA b.s., she’s so enamored with…In someways, I think Tyler suffers from the same malaise. I guess in another 20 years or so, hopefully someone from the next generation of black film makers will depict black life sans the ATYPICAL ghetto lament. It’s 2010, we’re more than that.

  • and the Oscar goes to….

    @Marquis
    Now we are on the same page. Completely agree with your above statement. We are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, more than that. Amen

  • Marquis de Sade

    and the Oscar goes to….

    Well to be honest, you caught me on one of the rare occasions when i’m not trollin’ and bein’ misogynistic for shyts n ‘ giggles…But i’m usually serious when discussin’ film and politics. Ciao!

  • Shay

    Did anyone catch Sam Jacksons face after Mo won?

  • enlight

    this whole Mo’Nique (as well as Will & Jada lest you forget) open marriage thing has been spoken by her for years now, so it shouldnt be news to hollywood. I dont agree with it but essentially it sounds like she’s not saying she invites her husband to cheat on her, BUT that if he happens to cheat on her, she doesnt see it as cause for divorce. That (like Will & Jada), if there is someone he’s attracted to, or vice versa, she wants them to be open enough with each other to discuss it and if he still feels he needs to act on it, she wont be heading to divorce court. Now, the extent to which he may step out I’m still unclear on b/c something tells me she’d be singing a different tune if he started doing it without telling her or started acted like someone else was his soulmate….

  • chaka1

    These are some of the most bizarre comments I have ever read. Some self-haters need some serious therapy and medication.

    Congratulations Monique. You represent us well.

  • chaka1

    @ Kendra

    1. Black people love images that put us in a negative light. Read this blog on a regular basis and see.

    @Marquis

    Why is a man putting a dress for a comedy so disturbing to you?

    @Congratulations Mo

    Thank you. They only people I ever hear make negative comments about black films are only certain people on this blog. It’s clear they have NO idea how the entertainment business really works.

  • AlekWekJunkie

    and also Diahann Carroll for Claudine (another performance that was Oscar worthy) . . .

  • Powderpuff

    congrats mo you deserved it

  • Well Alright……..

    What was the deal with Samuel L. Jackson and Morgan Freeman, after Mo’Nique won??!! Did anyone else notice their demeanor? They looked as if they weren’t too happy with Mo’Nique’s Oscar win!

  • that damn sh#$ disturber

    congrats mo! makeup=flawless!!

  • Doc

    @Lamon

    Precious didn’t seem racist to me, all the black people weren’t ignorant. Didn’t a black woman write the book.
    Wake up, many of you’re (sic) people are in that situation. Shining a light isn’t being racist

    **************************************
    Sorry, I forgot about Lou Gossett. You are absolutely right. On another note, I did see how Morgan Freeman and Sam Jackson reacted after she won, like they were less than pleased. What’s up with that?

  • http://aol ebonieladi

    If Mo’Nique only let the Black press interview her then I say, good for her. Why? Because the black press gets pushed aside or ignored at these type of events and she made sure to make time for them, recognize them and give them interviews. Big ups to her for that.

  • Dr. Hayden Drake

    I am glad that she won,
    but she should have thanked the director.

    She thanked her husband,B.E.T Oprah and Tyler.
    All four had very little to do with the film if anything at all, but she forgets to thank the director.

    She acted well in this horrible film so i felt like she deserved it over the other ladies nominated.

  • 2010Dnice

    @Eboni – I liked that she recognized the black press, but her attitude and demeanor was just rude and hard almost, like she is still in character. It’s not necessary. I mean all we’ve heard from her is how skinny girls ain’t nothing and big is beautiful blah blah blah and now out of nowhere I’m hearing about all her personal struggles. I just think she is milking it a bit and really acting like she is an A-list actress when she just got in the game. She’s a comedian, it would be nice to see her being a little light hearted. She’s just coming off as if she’s been this struggling actress, when you’ve been more than happy to take your Roscoe Jenkins and ghetto barber shop roles. I just feel like she is acting brand new and needs to take it down a notch.

  • LaDiva

    Congrats Monique…

  • lt

    Congrats, MO!

  • DreTruth

    the dude from the blind side was considered a refugee? but he was born in America? damn that was really racist.

  • DreTruth

    oh yeah I am glad she interview first with the black media too.

  • S.W.A.T’s Soldier

    Not a fan of hers at all but I respect her accomplishment. The academy does seem to shine the light on roles where negative stereotypes of African Americans are portrayed. Jeff Bridges won for playing a red-neck but Morgan Freeman didn’t get the credit he deserved for playing Nelson Mandela. Congrats tho…

  • Johnny

    I’m glad to see Monique win the Oscar. I will be catching your tour when it comes through L.A.

  • Bruh

    @ True Diva:

    If you go all the way back to Hattie, Mo
    would be the 4th to win, in an acting
    category.

    Hattie McDaniel
    Whoopi Goldberg
    Halle Berry
    MoNique

    1 Best Actress, 3 Best Supporting Actresses

  • rae

    ppl r complaining abt Mo apostrophe Nique’s win but let us not forget that this still is better than the year CUBA GOODING JR, won for Jerry Mc Guire?

    That was the most undeserved oscar EVER! Black or white!

  • 2010Dnice

    Rae, your avatar is killing me LOL.

  • Mike

    Good for her, she deserved the award.

  • Bruh

    Again, @ True Diva:

    I stupidly had forgotten about
    Jennifer Hudson…so that makes
    5 total. I best actress, 4 best
    supporting actresses.

    Peace

  • BK

    way2go mo!! can’t wait to see you in l.a.!!! big ups!

  • Interlude

    I ain’t about to kiss no azz and I’m not going to say she deserve it but CONGRATULATIONS, Mo’Nique. She really lucked out on this, here, bay—bee.

  • Lovely

    @ Im Not O.J

    I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THAT! YES, MO’NIQUE’S EYES LOOKS AS IF HER SOUL IS LOST, OR SOLD. AS WELL AS J-HUD’S

  • Kim

    @And the Oscar goes to
    Please, you are the same type of black woman who would raise a son that ran after anything and everything that was not black. Black women would not have to go to any extreem if women like you did not breed. Problems, problems, problems. LOL! People like you are always talking about what black people should so, but your full of ish and know it. Mo deserved her Oscar and her private life is for her to do what ever she will.

  • Kim

    @I’m not O.J.,
    The evil one? Have any of you looked at how you treat other black folk? You screw them over at a drop. Don’t point at Mo. Point at yourselves. You screw your children, your women and your men over at a drop of a hat and think nothing of it. Take the plank out of you own eye.
