Samuel Jackson also played stereotypical roles in JungleFever= crack addict and Jackie Brown= foul mouthed gangster.

Truth! She did not get caught up in all the politickin’ that takes place every year when award season is in effect. She probably was prepared to lose because of her decision to not be all up in the voter’s faces, but she still won without doing all that.

Sam doesn’t have a problem with Will or Queen Latifah because they paid their dues and got years of experience acting on TV (Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Living Single, respectively). Obviously you don’t look at the Oscars. Morgan Freeman has been nominated for non-stereotypical roles. This year he was nominated for playing Nelson Mandela in Invictus and he was previously nominated for Shawshank Redemption and most recently in 2005 for Million Dollar Baby and he won. These were not steretypical roles.

Sam wasn’t hating at all. I believe it was an reaction to Mo’Nique speech. Of course Mo’Nique did an excellent job and Sam knows it. When she said “politics in the oscars” he most likely thought she could have kept it to herself.

I don’t know why ppl are talking about the fact that she didn’t thank Lee Daniels the Director. I mean she won about 29 awards for this role leading up to Oscar night so every1 in the room expected her to win. And in most of the previous acceptance speeches she has repeatedly thanked Lee Daniels and on Oscar night she thanked him again on camera back stage.

Uh.. it should have been obvious to most sensible people that her speech was ungracious, ungrateful, rude, selfish, and showed how truly egotistical and full of herself Mo really is. Good point, you are probably right. I hate to say this but Mo’Nique may be setting herself up for a world of hurt through the tabloids and gossip forums. I personally had no problem with her acceptance speech, but with her being a black woman who is loud, overweight, rambunctious and candid about her marriage arrangements, she is opening herself up to be scrutizined. Now that she has ARRIVED, the media will be trying to dig up every single bit of information they can get to try and slander her. She likely should have carried herself with a little more grace….oh well, we’ll see how things go over the next few months…

Monique came across as a angry black woman. It’s not like she was working all her life to be nominated for an Oscar. She could have been a bit more humble in speech. This more than likely is the last time she’ll win anyway, why not enjoy the moment?

Mo’Niques lack of humility is going to hurt her more than help her. Like Ashley said – it’s not like she’s been working her entire life for this moment! She’s a flippin COMEDIAN – not a seasoned or even professional actress!! I’m sure there are a lot of people who feel that she did not deserve an Oscar for playing such a sterotypical role. But to win the award and then give this speech with such an angry tone as if the academy OWED this to her like she’s been working hard for this her entire career just FLOORED ME!!!!

That’s ok – the powers that be in Hollyweird will knock her back down a peg or two. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying she should dance a jig for these white folks, but don’t act like you runnin something when you really haven’t proven yourself in this game!!

I do believe that he was listening to the tone of the speech. Come on ya’ll she did sound a bit angry and he was probably like “woah, did Mo just get down like that” I doubt there was any haterism in that expression. I was like why did she seem so angry when she did her speech? I love both actors and I think that they both as African Americans are paving the way for others.

She should have thanked the director but I am sure he is alright. Nobody knows why SLJ looked that way, all people are doing is guessing.

I am happy she won but I was disappointed myself when she went out there with less intention to be thankful of the award and more to harp and complain about the industry. She has always been annoying to me with her “life lesson” speeches and long, unecessary pauses between each of her sentences.

I would have rather Gabourey won. She would have been thankful.

In every TV interview she has given Lee Daniels much praise (unlike Berry when she was promoting Monster’s Ball), so who cares if she got caught up in the moment and didn’t mention his name. Berry don’t even give praise to God in ANY of her acceptance speeches like other actors. Blk ppl let’s move on too real issues like the lack of TV comedies w/ a blk cast or the lack meaty film roles for Angela, Lynn, Thandie, Sanaa, Nia and Vivica.

Angelina and Brad have a non traditional relationship, as do many Hollywood people, leave Mo and her man alone! If the shoe fits… we all know or have someone in our family that fits that role.
