Out Of Pocket: Weight Loss Company Sends “Precious” An Intervention Letter And Sponsorship Proposal!?!?!

Categories: Gabourey Sidibe, News, out of pocket, SMH

Since Howard Stern opened his mouth last week about Gabourey Sidibe’s size, a weight loss company is looking to sponsor Gabby if she chooses to lose weight and in return they would like for her to endorse them. We understand what they are trying to do BUT the letter that they sent her is so out of pocket… They should be ashamed!!!

Pop the Top for the Letter

Dear Ms. Sidibe,

After viewing the recent pictures taken of you strolling around Santa Monica earlier this week, we at Acai Supply have decided that we can no longer sit back and keep our mouth’s shut! Obesity is a major epidemic in the United States, and we would like to help you rid yourself of this terrible affliction. Life doesn’t have to be this way.

It’s time to prove Howard Stern and all of your naysayers wrong. We, along with Oprah agree that you do have a bright future ahead of you in the entertainment business, and the only way you can reach your goal of someday winning that Oscar is by being active, fit and most of all, healthy!

Thousands of people around the world say that Acai Supply’s acai berry help them live a healthier life that is full of energy and vitality. Please get back to me at your earliest convenience your or your representative’s shipping address so that we may ship out your first month’s supply.

Best Regards,
Evan H. (CEO)

Gabby probably knew that the media would have something to say about her weight but she probably never anticipated that things would be like this bad. Do you think this is Out of Pocket or They are Right?!?!

  • Glok.. Da Messiah,… Da Anointed One!

ALL I WANNA KNOW IS WHY SHE STOP AFTER TWO BUTTONS,..COVER THAT CHIT UP!?

  • You know what?

    Glok

Maybe it does not fit her, but she wants to make like he does to cover her enlarged stomach.

  • You know what?

Big girls do NOT need to wear material that stretches and buttons. It does not do anything for her stomach. It makes her look ridiculous. The blue necklace is not helping her, either.

  • LENE

MAYBE SHE’LL TAKE THEM UP ON THEIR OFFER.

  • DRENK

i hope she accepts, or at least starts on a weight plan, that really is unhealthy to stay that big

  • sweetga

no they were not wrong. they are a company looking for someone to endorse there product. Now the question that everyone has forgotten to ask is. “ms sidbe doyou want to lose weight? she might not. hmmmmm

  • Boogie

No they are right she needs to loose wieght, I don’t care how happy she is, she is OBESE and she needs to take her mother along for the same

  • Susan

This is a clear case of insensitive people trying to knock a sista down off of her pedestal. They hate to see that this sista is confident in herself regardless of her size. When Gabourey is ready to lose weight, she will lose it on her own terms. Not theirs.

  • CAT EYES

At least they are trying to help her with the issue instead of just making fun of her.I hope she takes them up on the offer because honestly, obesity cuts one’s lifespan

  • Milwaukee

OUT OF POCKET to the fullness…They need to leave her alone and let her be her

  • will-e-will

They only put this open this open letter out for publicity. Acai Supply knows she will not use their product after they have sent this letter, but on the real she does need to lose some weight, damn she is huge. She is to young to be that big, and not have to lose weight.

  • Teezy

I dont think that they are wrong. A lot of celebs have been spokes people for weight loss companies. More importantly, its not healthy for her to carry all of that weight. High blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea and other diseases can rob her of not just her career but her life. She dosent have to be a size 2 but she does need to loose weight.

  • lani3000

    This is IN THE POCKET

  • IceBerg

I agree Glok, she’s not an ugly person but she is a big girl. I’m sure she has every intention on losing weight now that she has the money (because it does cost to eat healthy) and resources to do so. However, I think the pressure that’s being put on her now is going to cause a downward spiral. Seems like entertainers that start out big, usually get bigger (Notorious Big, Big Pun, Fat Joe, etc.) Why, because they can afford to live the lavish style and eat what they want. They’re not thinking about calories, lol.

  • http://www.twitter.com/ms_holliday ms_holliday

it wasnt Out of Pocket just the truth … blunt yes but all the same still the truth

  • chocalatetunda01

WOW THEY WENT TO FAR IN THAT LETTER. OMG. BUT I DO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO SAY. LOL @ GLOK TO FUNNY. BUT SHE IS NOT A BAD LOOKING GIRL JUST BIG. SHE CAN LOSE SOME OF THAT WEIGHT THO.

  • Paula

As someone who weighed nearly 300lbs and lost nearly 100 (still more to lose), I would encourage Gabby to lose the weight. She doesn’t have to be super skinny but she should do it for her health! There is nothing like the freedom from the burden that extra weight brings-back aches, pre-diabetes, other joint pains, etc.

  • http://www.myspace.com/870bg bg(Dallas here I come!)

It’s a touchy subject, she needs to loose the weight for obvious reasons. However they should have maybe made a request for her endorsement thru her agent or someone close to her, that could have broke it down for her on the cool!

  • Yenn

Its not out of pocket! The girl needs to lose some weight. She doesnt need to become a size extra small. But atleast reach a healthy weight!

  • Schizophrenixxx

    1. “She can lose weight, if they really wanted to.”

It’s easy for some to make this statement. A large number of the population can eat whatever they want, and never gain an ounce. Losing weight and keeping the weight off is an ongoing challenge for some overweight
people. Several factors can cause a person to pack on the pounds. Certain medications, genetics, and metabolism can make is difficult for someone to lose ten pounds. Those determined to lose a large amount of weight have to stick to a rigid diet and exercise routine. Failing to exercise for a few days or indulging in one sweat treat can result in a quick weight gain.

  • FolkNeedToMindTheirBusiness

Has she asked you to feed or clothe her?!!

Sure obesity is a problem and every family has obesity as an issue. I suggest you take it up with your own family members and leave Gabby and her mom to handle their business.

She obviously is comfortable in her own skin and you are not. Everybody is not meant to be a size 2 or 22, but we all should be respected and not ridiculed.

I’m sure she knows what size she is and that has not stopped her before and it won’t stop her in the future.

Why does it kill you for someone to be comfortable in their skin?
Her weight is NONE of the public’s business. Leave her alone! Everybody fall back; if and when she decides to lose weight, it will be her decision.

People need to learn that loving is accepting people as they are, not what we need them to be. And if she’s comfortable in her own skin, then what does it take from you? You don’t have to love her, or support her. just respect her. And if you can’t do that, then leave her alone!!

Y’all bloggers love to dogg people out just because you can sit behind a terminal and talk smack. What has it done for you lately?

Sad how people get off . . .

  • white male

There is no such thing as a fat old person, lose the weight before its too late.

  • Don’tGiveAWhat

It should at least be a product that WORKS, if they’re going to stick their noses in….

(Check out some consumer reviews of Acai, if you don’t believe me. There is virtually nothing you can BUY to lose weight, and folks should all know this by now…)

  • Glok.. Da Messiah,… Da Anointed One!

NO HONEY YOU TRYNA GET ME IN TROUBLE. U JUST SILLY. U NOT READY FOR THIS JUST YET.

  • Chandra

No one is in a position to judge her. Much less a company who is ONLY interested in capitalizing on her success. For health reasons, she probably should lose weight. But that should be her decision. She should enjoy her newfound fame and ignore those trying to belittle her. They would have to pay me buckets of $$$$ (tens of millions) to do it. Vultures!!!

  • http://bossip Keep it Real

I don’t see it. I have been going to a gym of about 6,000 people for about 10 years. I have seen 2 black women lose a substantial (maybe 100lbs) amount of weight. I have seen maybe 5 lose 30 to 40 pounds. If they come in fat and/or obese, they eventually give up and leave fat and/or obese.

  • WhatAWorld

They could have been more discreet with their request, instead of broadcasting it on the 6 o’ clock news. Some people on here are insensitive as well, agreeing with this ignorant mess.Would you be cool with this if you were Gabrouey?

  • Caramel Cat™

I don’t think there was anything wrong with them approaching her, but the way in which they did so was rather abrasive: “After viewing the recent pictures taken of you strolling around Santa Monica earlier this week, we at Acai Supply have decided that we can no longer sit back and keep our mouth’s shut!”

IMHO, that’s a little harsh and it gives the impression that Gabourey is a public offense, or like her weight problem is offending others…they could have found a more diplomatic way of approaching her…

  • Glok.. Da Messiah!

Ok, but she is still morbidly obese. She needs to lose 100 pounds or she can have a heart attack.

  • Candid Canuck

hell ya it out of pocket…. it just shows that “celebrity” is the only true voice and government in Yankee town

  • You know what?

The only reason this girl got the part she did was BECAUSE she is obese. I do not dispute her acting. My beef is her size. It is not healthy. :(

  • You know what?

Do you think the reaction to ‘Precious’ would be the same if they used a slender actress? I do.

  • Candid Canuck

btw it’s so out of pocket!!!!

  • Just Bored

She should wait on Jenny Craig to call and cash in big time like all the other big stars. Gabby’s look makes her unique. I don’t think she will work again when if/when she becomes thin.

People rode Starr Jones into the ground over her weight, and the minute she lost it and was looking good, they went at her hard for being thin – LOOOL. Notice Starr has faded into oblivion. Oprah gains weight every few years so she can whine and stay relevant.

  • You know what?

Some of you are getting emotional. Why? You say we who say she needs to lose weight do not like who we are? That’s ridiculous. We are entitled to comment as we see fit. This is America, last I checked. Would it be fair for me to say all of you saying she doesn’t need to lose weight are obese yourselves, and this is why you have salty feelings? Learn how toy check your feelings at the door. Damn. :D

  • KC7710

she does need to lose weight…but it is not the companies business to try and profit off of it….if they want to help for free…no charge ….no pub…then that would be all good

  • Caramel Cat™

It’s OBVIOUS that this child needs to lose weight…but whoever wrote this letter needs some etiquette tips. Some things are just harsh, and if they wanted her to get turned off and decide to NOT use their products, they likely succeeded.

  • MrTavMarie

The approach was incorrect (if this was a REAL letter from them), but it’s in the right place. I think that Gabourey will lose weight when she’s ready. Look how long it took Mo(apostrophe)Nique to lose weight.

  • Trouble

they are bogus as hell for that letter. That girl is cute and aint nothing wrong with her. America’s mind set of life is wayyyy f*cked up!

  • Sticky-n-Sweet

She should join Dr. Ian’s 50 Million Pound Challenge- if you’re gonna lose weight for money, might as well help a brotha out…Jenny ain’t reachin’ out to our community…

  • JOE NECKBONE

gabourey just got the lead in “the mighty joe young story”….she bulked up for the role. her career is taking off

  • UrHeinessDaQueen

I don’t see anything remotely wrong with what this company did. Especially in the extremely professional/concerned manner they directed her.
This is actually a blessing for her to take this opportunity & lose those excess pounds so that way not only is she going to healthier but have a brighter, more fulfilling career in Hollywood.

Real talk, she’s talented, articulate, sweet, positive & humble but physical appearance/image is a major factor that makes these celebs $$$$. Especially for the women.

On top of that,Gabby will be offered endorsement deals too? I say,go for it!Other celebs have been spokespersons for companies such as Jenny Craig so why not?

  • UrHeinessDaQueen

*excuse my typos in my previous comment btw*

  • UrHeinessDaQueen

@Sticky-n-Sweet: True, however he probably hasn’t approached Gabby like this company did.

  • simplyhoney

And just what is so out of pocket for them wanting to help her?! They didn’t criticize her but they simply stated the truth: obesity is a problem.

Black people need to stop fronting–she’s too big and it’s not healthy.

  • DRENK

@ ALL THOSE SAYING ITS OUT OF POCKET

would you be offended if hershey or pringles offered her an endorsement for representing their products…?

    ********************************
Maybe not where you are from but I see overweight older people everyday. That doesn’t make it healthy but it’s not true that there are no fat older people.

  • jay

The company is only out to fatten its pockets. They don’t care one bit about her. One more testimony means more business for them. The product is not magical. She still has to follow proper nutrition and exercise regimen but nothing like that is mentioned. If she’s happy with herself then let it be.

  • Chandra

    @Jay…. I cosign completely!

  • hey now

    @urheinessdaqueen

I don’t see anything remotely wrong with what this company did. Especially in the extremely professional/concerned manner they directed her.

    —————–

Professional? Concerned? If that were true they would have sent to letter directly to her instead of making it public. If she had taken them up on the offer then it would have been ok to go public. This company wants publicity more than they want to help Gabby.

  • DMO

She needs help. A heart can only last so long with all that weight. We can’t let her be and let other overweight kids think this is ok. IT’S NOT. I have no remorse for someone who lets themsleves gain this much wieght. You ate all this unhealthy food to get this way, now lose it and be healthy. POINT BLANK. ALL YOU CHEERLEADERS NEED TO HELP CHANGE THIS MESS. Why should we leave her alone? She NEEDS HELP!!!

  • You know what?

You know what? I do not believe Gabby is ‘happy’ being obese. If she was, she would be doing ads for McDonalds eating a bunch of cheeseburgers and shit. She was only happy that it got her that part. But, again; if this was a thin actress-no one would have paid attention.

  • I like to stay cute in da face, and thin in da waist

Right @ hey now, they should have sent it in private. She will lose the weight when she is ready.

  • Just Bored

    @You know What?

I think Starr Jones was looking bad at that time because of all the drama going on in her personal life. She just looked tired. With her ex, Barbra Walters, and the public all stressing her out, I’m surprised she didn’t age more in the face.

Gabby should do this for herself and her health. But I guarantee when the weight is gone, every one of these neanderthals on this site will just call her ugly and dark every chance they get regardless.

  • white male

    @ebonieladi

    How old were these people?

My uncle is a doctor and said there is no such thing as old fat people. No way someone like this girl pictured would live to 75.

  • Rihanna’s Sharp n Pointy Witchy Fingernails Took The Oath

no y’all did not file this under “acai supply”!

people need to leave her alone. she is a grown adult who can make decisions for her own life. none of us are perfect, that includes the celebs some of you imbeciles worship, for instance, rihanna stan “jjj”, “kigali” and gmen-aka-real black. I am flabbergasted that so many people actually have the nerve to cast judgment. Let’s see your faces from every angle!

Healthy advice from the heart is not being cruel and saying ugly things about someone, because of the way they look.

  • You know what?

I actually think Gabby is a beautiful young lady, and because of that-I want her to definitely improve her health. Her ebony skin is smooth, and she has a great smile, it’s just her body is suffering for that weight. If i sound harsh for the way I am speaking about this, then I apologize, but we have to be real, people. Luther Vandross would still be alive if he got his weight under control. Biggie Smalls? if he was not murdered, he would have probably been suspectible to a heart attack, diabetes, and a host of other health issues. I want Gabby to be around for a minute. I can see her easy at maybe Jennifer Hudson’s size. But the size she is now is very dangerous.

  • http://bossip My Voice!

That letter was a joke! How stupid and insensitive can a person be! Individuals like that, as well Howard Stern, need their azz whooped! All they are concerned with is using Gabbie! Anything to get more publicity for their product. And yes, she does need to lose weight. But I’m sure she’ll do it when she’s ready.

  • http://labellablu.wordpress.com labellablu

i wouldn’t be offended … i would wait for the right offer … then get my weight-loss on … free of charge … get it gabby!

  • UrHeinessDaQueen

@hey now: Yes,I think they came off as professional as well as concerned. Ok,so it wasn’t private however I strongly believe Gabby should accept their offer,if this letter is indeed official.

Besides,Gabby as well as the company would be benefiting IMO.
The company gets more promotion & Gabby most likely will land endorsements,so they will both be profiting.

  • MzTrina95fo

Good I’m tired of looking at her HUGE FAT unattactive a**. Notice i said unattractive and not fugly. but ya get my drift. i wanna see this girl lose 200 pounds.

  • Caramel Cat™

    @My Voice!

Yes you are correct, I saw her on an episode of The Soup this weekend and she always holds her own. She works well with people and the public likes her spirit. I agree that she needs to lose weight for sure, but she is very capable of maintaining herself successfully in this industry…

  • AJ

She iz hella big buh I think she can lose some weight only for health reasons…not becuz some hollyweird ppl want her to. . . . .

  • http://bossip What!!

That letter was offensive! I would tell them to kiss my azz!

Gabourey’s ebony skin is beautiful as well as her personality.

  • Amethyst

I do not agree with this letter being made public; very tacky! And for that reason, if I were Ms. Sidibe I would not accept their offer. But I do agree that she should do something about her weight! She doesn’t have to accept Acai Supply’s offer, but needs to get a trainer, a diet plan, and the motivation to change the way she looks and become healthier.

  • Sequanda

    she just too huge!!!

  • http://bossip miss dior

I almost fell out off my chair when she said ‘she would hit Gerald Butler’, she’s very funny and confident but seriously needs to lose some LBs.

  • Please

Some may say it was out of pocket. But hey at least someone out there has extended a hand to help her. I hope she accepts, its clear to see that as Gabby gets older she is going to have some problems.

If they want to help(sponsor her) all that does is give her another pay day. That and she will get healthier. Win…win if you ask me.

  • http://bossip Keep it Real

How many people do you know or have you seen who has been this big and lost 100 to 150lbs. It is highly, highly highly unlikely that she will ever lose weight. Fact

  • Caramel Cat™

I always feel bad for obese people because their issues are visible, so people can pick and prod at them all day long. There are many folks who do stuff like smoke cigarettes, eat too much sugar or cholesterol, drink too much, etc. but their vices aren’t visible on the exterior. There are MANY people who will not live to be old and just because they aren’t morbidly obese doesn’t mean they aren’t free from a health problem that they need to hurry up and take care of….

  • Miss Ace

  • Caramel Cat™

    @Finally

Exactly! I want her to lose weight because she does need to be HEALTHIER, but I also wouldn’t be mad if she hushed the naysayers and actually built a strong legitimate career as a big black woman. I don’t want her spirit to leave this business, we need people like her…

Time to cut down on the twinkies. Craig and Smokey would say “Damn!”

  • darealwifey

They are trying to make this WOMAN, Ms. Sidibe, into her onscreen CHARACTER, “Precious.” The media WANTS her to have low self-esteem, be ashamed, stay at home, and disappear. Her weight is not hurting any of you. Yes, it is hazardous to HER health, but she must decide *if* and *when* to address her weight. She knows she is overweight, so all the negative chatter is not helping her. Leave her alone, and let her enjoy her moment in life.

God bless, Gabby. Just remember that the pain humans want you to feel is fleeting because there is a bigger picture than mortal life.

  • MochaDreams

The first paragraph could have been nixed, but other than that, I think it’s a smart idea for weight loss companies to approach her. Of course, they just need to do it in the right way. I think Gabby is a terrific actress, and I could have kicked that skeletor-lookin’ Howard Stern and that House knee-grow Robin Quivers straight in the throat for their comments towards her, but I think we all know that weight loss should be her next major accomplishment. As long as a company can approach her in a positive and uplifting way, I have no problem with it.

  • jus sayin’

  • Sistawithavoice

I really think they were out of line b/c she has never expressed a dislike with her weight or a want to lose weight. We may all agree that she does need to lose weight, but we also need to respect this young woman’s wishes. She seems to be a very genuine person, and it’s very rare that anybody in Hollyweird likes themselves, re: plastic surgery, implants, etc… Gabby has found fame without looking like Kate Winslet or Angelia Jolie. Instead of judging her, we need to pray that if she is endangering her health, that a Doctor be the one to inform her of this, and that she decides to make that change.

  • Mrs. Doubtfire

She absolutely needs to loose weight. I mean seriously, who wants to be that big? This letter was very much in my opinion “In the Pocket”. Gabby also needs a stylist. I used to work with an overweight girl, and when it came to fashion, she always got it right!

“How many people do you know or have you seen who has been this big and lost 100 to 150lbs. It is highly, highly highly unlikely that she will ever lose weight. Fact”

Um, Madam/Sir…it CAN be done. Gabby’s only 20. Now, if she were an older lady, like say–Mo’Nique–she could potentially be stuck with that fat for the rest of her life.
I would imagine working out would be hard for her but, hey–IT’S NOTHING SHE’S 20 YEARS OLD. She just needs to start out slow.
In the end, she may need surgery to get rid of extra skin, if there is any, but that is all. EXCERSISE, EXCERSISE, EXCERSISE and proper dieting–nothing more, nothing less.
Being fat is not neccessarily genetic. Hell, she’s bigger than her mother, so she know it “ain’t rite”…

  • brittany

it is very disrespectful..if she lose weight for someone else then she will gain every bit back and more..she has to lose it for herself and noone else..its more than just losing wight its a lifestyle change (eating right and exercis)IF SHE IS HAPPY BIG THEN NO ONE SHOULD JUDGE HER THE ONLY PERSON THAT CAN JUDGE HER IS GOD…

  • memchee

if they released that letter to the media, then she should sue them for using her to advertise their product.

if someone other than herself released that to the media, then she needs to start checking people!

  • Shavon89

in my opinion i think she can lose some weight. not saying she has to be a skinny girl but i think she will look a lot better

  • Hey heyyy

lol @ “affliction” fat is an affliction now, I can’t.

Leave Gabby alone, when she’s ready to hit a treadmill she will she doesn’t need people telling her to do it or companies offering to help her when she hasn’t asked for it. Why don’t y’all focus on your own lives which are probably f’ed up which might be the reason why you are so vocal about hers.

If you put half as much energy into better yourselves you wouldn’t feel the need to point out that she needs to lose weight in a blog comment area, get it together.

  • Accept the Help Younglady

I do feel she needs to lose some weight for health issues, not because of Hollyweird. She is too young to be so huge. Take the help & lose that weight young lady. She is a nice looking & intelligently speaking younglady. Go for it. You are not the only one in Hollyweird with weight issues & trying to lose weight.

    How old were these people?

My uncle is a doctor and said there is no such thing as old fat people. No way someone like this girl pictured would live to 75

I see people in their 60′s and 70′s who are overweight. My grandmother lived to be 87 years old. As far as your uncle(the doctor) goes, I wouldn’t trust another thing that he said if that’s what he told you. If he’s telling you stuff like that then how can you trust his diagnosis on other health matters?

  • Roaze

    they are so right…

  • being overweight is a problem!

    @ebonieladi

You can live, but you cant live life to your fullest if you are overweight. It is just not healthy. Precious needs to lose weight point blank. She will be much happier and healthier. Maybe then she will have a chance at some of the white boys she been chasing (just kidding)…but in all seriousness….her weight is definitely a problem.

This could actually be lucrative for the actor. Everyone from Kirstey Alley and others have obtained a significant income from weight loss programs…and I know Gaborey Sidibe would be perfect…cause I know everyone will say if she can do it, then I can do it…lol! she needs to go on celebrity fit club…but she might have to do two or three seasons, lol!

  • Little Wing

I’m willing to bet that 90% of those on here harping about Gabourey’s weight have their own weight issues going on. Can YOU pinch more than an inch? Stop the madness!

  • I Am Legend

I just keep going back to ol boy saying she looks like Biggie Smalls LMAO

They were not wrong for what they did, the letter is not a negative one. It’s about time that someone said something, like Howard Stern said Oprah lied to that girl. She cannot get any ‘decent’ roles at her size…come on. This is also a plus because believe or not there is an obese girl out there who may be battling with diseases (i.e.: diabetes) because of her weight and when Gabby came out everyone was glorifying her obesity, so this child may think it is okay. She should really take this into consideration, hell if she can get down to atleast a size 18 she may be okay.

I wasn’t saying it was healthy, I was responding to the guy who said that his uncle the doctor told him that there is no such thing as an old fat person which is a lie.

[...] Out Of Pocket: Weight Loss Company Sends “Precious” An Intervention Letter And Sponsorship Propo…Since Howard Stern opened his mouth last week about Gabourey Sidibe’s size, a weight loss company is looking to sponsor Gabby if she chooses to lose weight and in return they would like for her to endorse them. We understand what they are trying to do BUT the letter that they sent her is so [...] Share and Enjoy: [...]
