Can’t be much clearer that I’m not trying to “go in” but whatever. I guess I’m just the type of person who wouldn’t call themselves after anything or anyone, so I’m already at a loss. (If I’m trying so hard to be like someone else, who is going to be like me?) But if I did, they would have to represent the complete package and not just the superficial aspect of being “fabulous”. Besides, there is no way a lifeless doll could represent any of the things you mentioned. Ageless Beauty – uh. she’s a doll so….? Fashionista – again, a doll. It’s not like she’s picking out the clothes lol. Rich? Maybe in Monopoly money. So bottom line for me is: She. Is. Not. Real. @ T.O.B.B., thank you for explaining. I did not take what you said as bragging, so no worries. If it was just you using the name, it might have gone unnoticed; however, there is an onslaught of “black Barbies” lately, which disturbs me more than a little bit. And I totally get that you are speaking for yourself only. It’s funny, because I’ve had a similar experience. People have always said I look like a doll (not Barbie specifically) or called me “dollface” “babydoll” “dollbaby” or “the doll” [not really fond of the last one since it is the name for The Lady Chablis (drag queen from "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil") lol]. My ex had a small cousin who moved here a few years ago from Puerto Rico and she called me “titi munequita”, which is slang for “auntie baby doll” and she would name all her black dolls some variation of my name. I’m an attractive woman, but I feel like the way I look is the least of who I am (it’s actually nothing when compared to my intelligence, sense of humor, wisdom and sincerity – not bragging either) so I try not to hang too much of my self esteem on it. But that is JUST ME. Nothing wrong with being proud of the way you look (also not implying that you hang too much of your self-esteem on it either). You sound like you are very intelligent, so it might have been nice to see a “shout out” to that aspect of yourself as your moniker, especially since there are so many “Barbies” running around (I think you recognize this because you call yourself “The Original…”) Just a thought.

@ TOBB – I hear you as well and you make an excellent point regarding the fact that this a gossip site and, by definition, an informal medium for discussion so I agree that we shouldn’t read (pardon the pun) too much into what people say or call themselves on here. But to your general point, I disagree only slightly. You’re correct with respect to those who talk about how “intelligent” they are but everything they do/say shows the opposite to be the case. But I see that the same way I see people who think they are gorgeous, but clearly aren’t (yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you know what I mean, as we all know a few of these types). You wouldn’t let those people stop you from acknowledging your own beauty. In reality, beauty can speak for itself, just as intelligence can, so really neither one has to be “shouted from the rooftops, per se”, but other than that – we’re on the same page. Thanks for the conversation – way off topic, but since we already agree that Diddy is dead wrong for this photo, why not?

I guess I just feel that 1. Barbie is an indirect way of acknowledging physical attributes that are obvious anyways and 2. Putting my intelligence and education on blast
is more obnoxious. Others may disagree, but that’s how I personally feel. I do acknowledge and promote my intelligence through what I say, while my screen name is the main area where I acknowledge my physical aspects. So in reality, I feel that intelligence STILL remains in the forefront. I see what you mean about neither HAVING to be shouted from the rooftops, but I don’t think calling myself a Barbie in strictly an online setting is doing that. It’s just a cute, fun screen name and I like cute, fun things (lol) to put it simplistically.
