This is the mess that came out of the policies of Liberal black organizations when they encouraged the break up of the black family homes, forced the fathers out and told the mothers you don’t need a man. That the government will give you a stripen to live on, just enough to keep you poor and frustrated so that you will not have the energy or will to raise your kids right. My father said all of this mess started about 40 to 50 years ago. My granddaddy said that back in the 1950′s little black kids wanted to grow up to be doctors, lawyers and engineers, and they cared about education and so did their parents. Now they want to be thugs and hurt innocent black people. The law needs to crack down on these fools and force them to stay in school or go into the military-those are your options. At least the military will teach them the discipline and self-responsibility that they never learned at home.

I think it’s gone on for far too long, and it may be too late, SMH… I remember ALWAYS having respect for my elders, as a young child, and now as an adult. I cant even imagine raising my voice or cursing at an elder, let alone beating them up! WTF, I pray for these children now a days.

I’m still reading about the particulars of these alleged a-s-s-a-u-l-t-s (there’s also an article in today’s NY Times), but, on face value, these incidents appear to illustrate more symptoms of a lack of parental guidance. I saw that two of the suspects are as young as 11 and 12 — why are these children involved in violent gatherings at night?

There are photos of one of the victims — Belinda Moore, a sister — on philly.com, and her injuries are still very visible from being punched and hit with sticks. Another 73-year-old victim remains in the hospital after suffering a heart attack during an a-s-s-a-u-l-t during which he was stomped. I agree with remarks by Mayor Nutter that it is not the city’s job to raise children, and a number of them seem destined to have a life behind bars or worse. Maddening and sad.

When I was growing up I had 2 groups of friends. The school ones (no minorities) and the church ones. During the summer, my school ones and I had to do educational courses, camp, going to the country to stay with grandparents, SOMETHING! I used to complain about it b/c my church friends got to just hang out and do whatever they wanted with their summers. Guess what? None of the church ones graduated from college, most of them got pregnant, etc. After I saw all that go down, I was grateful and will raise my kid the same way.

Also,kids don’t get taught expectations,consequences or get encouraged that much these days. I knew for a fact that if I brought home anything less than a B, that was my azz and/or my luxuries (phone, allowance, etc). B or above, a little money for each one. Guess what path I chose.

I taught school one year to save up money to relocate to NY and I had the bad kids (not really allowed in main building with other kids) all day long. They didn’t give a damn and neither did the school. At the end of the year, my students outscored the “regular” students on district tests. Suddenly, everyone cared and wanted to know what I did. Most kids aren’t born bad…they are created that way.

Where do you base your facts from? In general Africans and West Indians come here and do VERY WELL for themselves.
I went to an Ivy League school and the majority of the black kids there had West Indian or African parents.
Most West Indians are more religious than the average person in the US.
West Indians just got dropped off first and American blacks second. We were in the same boat then and we are in the same boat NOW!
We need to stop dividing ourselves because at the end of the day we all still BLACK! Midnight black, carmel black, high yella black, white black BLACK BLACK BLACK!!!!!!

They need to make a law to prevent all these pimps from opening these shady churches in the first place. it is high time that the churches in America are taxed because this free money is going into the paws of these pimping preachers. Storefront ghetto churches don’t do nothing for the people they steal from. They don’t offer after school programs for the children and they don’t offer educational services for the mothers. They are a blight in the ghetto making it worst and they lower the property values even worst than they already are.

If you people weren’t so old and out of touch and actually talked to kids. you would know that this isn’t a black issue, it’s a youth issue. there are kids being arrest for this game in Germany. But in Germany the white kids were actually killing the homeless. smfh @ how black people will put down their own kids before they put down anyone else.

This is really sad. These kids need to be punished but they also need to be helped! Why do they think this type of behavior is okay? What’s going on in their world that leads them to believe that attacking random people, let alone elderly people, is fun? These children definitely need guidance.

All these old-fashioned black leaders don’t go nothing but run their mouths for the cameras and blame society. The Urban League is now run by Morial who was once the Mayor of New Orleans and didn’t do a thing for the city except polarize it more. The NAACP, Jackson and all the rest represent the status quo and they don’t want things to change because they all want to be head negro but they don’t speak for the majority of us. Most black folks know it is lack of parental guiding, lack of studying hard, working hard and self-respect that is causing 95% of the problems, but the so-called black leaders will never publicly admit to it. They would still rather blame race and everybody under the sun for what is happening in black America. This Rap generation has helped to destroy an entire generation so now they need to clean up the mess they helped start.

I bet a stack that none of you people complaining about kids today volunteer at a youth center or an after school program to get in touch with the kids. When was the last time you sat on the step and talked to the kids about something positive? When was the last time you walked down to the corner to see what’s going on with the kids and try to give them a different perspective on life? My generation is messed up because the adults before us let us loose to figure out lives for our selves and to fend for ourselves. You say it’s horrible what these kids are doing, I say it’s justice. The baby chickens are coming home to roost…and they’re pissed.

Most Latinos come to this country and don’t want to have anything to do with Puerto Ricans in my estimation. They don’t want to be considered like them and now the Mexicans are saying I’m not Latino I’m Mexican. They emphasize the Mexican first and foremost.

SOunds like alot of excuses to me. Parents and single parent homes are plenty to blame but don’t these kids have free will? You can only blame the parents so much. At some point common sense and human decency has to set in. Are you saying black kids of this generation need more guidance and “hand-holding” than other kids of other races? They’re not animals but they’re certainly out there acting like it. These kids are just sheep following each other around in silly game of peer pressure. If anything most of the parents are guilty of not knowing what their kids are up to.

At some point talking isn’t working anymore. Bill Cosby did all he could do and he’s been repeating the virtues of education and respect like a mantra since the early 70s. Here they don’t even take advantage of the free education of high school and that’s one of the most important of basic foundations of everything they’ll need in life to make it. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out if the other kids are getting their diplomas and moving on with their lives, maybe they should follow suit, too. They see enough tv shows with black doctors, law enforcement, scientists, corporate heads, etc. We have a black president and the head of the U.N. was a black man at one time. But these dopes would rather worship Tupac, Jay Z and 50 Cent.

I went to the Million Man March hoping to get kids involved in construction, home improvement and building skills like carpentry and basic electricity. Even after the march and all the inspirational speeches, we only got a handful of african-american youth to join the training programs. The majority of the kids who wanted to participate were either caribbean, latino or white. Alot of these african-american kids just want to be rap stars or pro athletes so they can go live the Scarface life. Unfortunately, the next incident may end with a bunch of these kids catching some bullets from the intended victims.

I hate to see parents with their kids out late at night. Especially when the kids look so tired. Kids should have a bedtime. Not getting used to hanging out after midnight. At Dave & Buster’s they have to force people w/ kids there, to leave after a certain time.

this was an episode of CSI… kids getting together and beating up tourists in Vegas… i didn’t think people were actually crazy enough to do it. i need to trade in this stun gun for a taser…

my great grandmother was 13 when she got married and started having kids. The problem is that this kids aint getting there a** wimp for doing wrong crap. Lazy parent who want to party instead of raising there kids. if you have kids young then raise them. My grandmother had four kids and she raised them That why i keep a chain and a stun gun.

I think I saw this happen in DC. I’m from CA but was out in DC for Howard’s Homecoming. As my friend and I were taking the train back to campus after the step show, all of a sudden, about THREE OR FOUR “local” DC boys jumped this older man in the train station. They were beating him up so bad. We wanted to do something but, at the same time, we’re females PLUS it was hella late and we didn’t want to be on the train like that in the first place. So so sad. I hope the youth gets a wake up call. No more violence.

Someone needs to shoot 20 or 30 of these clowns dead and then you are going to see something being done to stop this chit. For now, everyone is going to indulge in stereotyping and the wringing of hands and talk shyte about black fathers and the usual self hate bullshit.
