Well, I was just at the concert she had in Atlantic City, NJ last Sunday. And quite frankly, I was quite disappointed because she performed way too much of that experimental alternative psychedlelic rock $hit for my taste and not enough, IMO, of the repertoire that us big Jill Scott fans are used to and expected.
Through most of the beginning and middle of the concert, she mostly gave us that new rock crap, with only smatterings of some of her old familiar stuff. And the audience — mostly made up of her core fans, I’m sure from her nearby hometown of Philadelphia, was pretty reserved in their reaction. And I know what it was. We kept waiting to hear the JS we all know and love and came to hear. In fact, she knew that we weren’t digging that too much.
She kept commenting throughout the show on the lackluster response from the audience each time she performed the unfamiliar songs, sarcastically thanking us for our time and appreciating the energy we put into our response. But when people were walking out, thinking it was the end, that’s when she went in with the stuff we were there to hear. And you know what? I don’t think any of us are apologizing for not rising to the occasion with that either.
I mean, I understand that as an artist, you want to be able to experiment with different musical styles so as to not get bored. But, I’m sorry. That is not what THAT audience was into. And she can’t force it. Girlfriend will just have to save that crap for those Europeans who would be willing to take anything she gives them. She just can’t expect an enthusiastic response to that kind of music from her core fans. That’s all.
And for the record, that was my fifth Jill Scott concert throughout the years. So thus, the root of my disappointment.

I wish Jill Scott could reclaim some of that magic she had in her first two cds. I’m sorry, she’s been going down hill from there. It’s the curse of the sophomore effort. She can’t get over that hump. Too bad though. I played the hell out of those first two cds – especially the LIVE one. ‘Do You Remember’ LIVE was the shiznit.
I know lately she’s been having some problems with her family. It seems like she wasn’t prepared for the jealousy and animosity her relatives were showing her once she got big. I read this in an interview from a magazine after she released her last cd. Hence the song ‘Hate On Me.’ I’m disappointed with what she’s been putting out lately but I’m still holding out and rootin’ for ole girl. It would be cool if she did a song with someone like Whitney to add a renewed spark in her repertoire. You know, something people don’t expect but would eat up. She was in the press all the time when her first cd came out. But now it seems like she’s going the way of Macy Gray. People are caring less and less.

Sometimes I don’t know about her choice of wardrobe, either it is too big or too small.
She needs to find clothes that compliment her figure.

I was there at the concert and and ive also paid to see Jill before and that is her routine. she’ll make u think its over and then will come back out and tear that ish up. I loved the show, she did songs only REAL fans would know. and she mentioned that. if you have alll 3 albums, you wouldnt have been disappointed at all. I was in awe last night. If anyone else was there, please let me know. she did some song that was absolutely beautiful and i cannot find it anywhere.

her hit song “hate on me” actually came from reading people’s comments about her on internet blogs, much like this one … so keep calling her fat, dissecting her fashion choices and saying that she is going down hill … you’re just adding fuel to a fire that will never be put out. This woman puts out beautiful, mature music for beautiful, mature people. And I have seen her in concert and she is AWESOME. When you are giving your soul on stage, you’re not trying to look pretty and smiling for cameras; your trying to convey a story, a part of yourself, your story. If you don’t get it … you just don’t get it.

I remember Jilly from Philly did a number with Blue Man Group back in the day at a Grammy Award Show. She sang ‘*****ody Knows My Troubles But God’ and BMG was shooting some ***** that looked like streaming toilet paper out of a bazooka into the audience. Silly as it sounds, that ***** was off the hook. It’s the first time I started paying attention to Jill. I appreciate it when an R&B sistah can step out the box and do something totally unexpected and still excel.
Yeah, that’s true about the song ‘Hate On Me’ being inspired by discussion boards – but it was compounded by other personal issues I know she was having in her family. Somebody must have done or said something that hurt her heart a little bit. She eluded to it herself. I saw one of her more recent videos where she came out crying and I was like, “W*****up with Jill?” It’s not like her. Even in concert, when people say ‘I love you,’ she won’t say ‘I love you, too.’ She’ll respond with a polite “Thank you.” So I know she was somewhat guarded and left her emotions in her songs. Somebody tripped her up though. For a minute, she was going through some thangs and it was obvious.
(Yeah, I know some a y’all are saying ‘Go to Oprah. Go to Oprah.’ Sorry. I just finished taking a Psychology course.)

I was going to say something about Jill’s pics; then I realized, what if somebody was there to take a shot of every move I made throughout the day or in the course of doing my job. There would be a lot of un-flattering photos of my black *****. As a matter of fact, there are un-flattering pics I’ve posed for, thinking I looked alright. So, I decided not to sow any seeds of judgment. The harvest may come back on my kids instead of me. That goes for the mistake I made in commenting on Serena’s pics too.

I’m Just Sayin,’ that’s the life they choose. They decided to get in the game because they crave the attention. Celebrities who want to get out of the limelight can do so at any time. But it’s like a drug to them. They crave it. They’ve got to have it. They can’t do without it. And plus, they are more than well compensated for their ‘troubles.’ And truth be told, some of them lose their minds if they’re not getting attention. There’s no such thing as bad publicity? I wouldn’t lose any sleep over what kind of attention the celebrities are getting. People give them adoration second only to God.
