Just from the picture, I know ya’ll ain’t comparing that whoe to L Buggie…I would not disrespect a garbage can with camparing Niki to it….she is worse than trash….

I wrote an essay on this in undergrad… It basically said –

When I was growing up, we had MC Lyte, Queen ‘Tifah, Bahamadia, LA Star, Nikki D, YoYo, etc.

Now we have Lil Kim, Jackie-O, Trina – and five years later (from my undergrad years, remember? LOL), “Tricki Nikki” Minaj, and broads like Khia (WANTING to be rappers – but not even officially making the grade!)…. SMDH. B-Girls used to go hard in hip-hop, but it would appear that American culture has killed them all. Strong women are rarely accepted in male-dominated fields. Rest in peace, ladies. I weep for my daughters.

  • that damn sh#$ disturber

good picture of lauren back before the polka dots and pageboys

  • smittyt

damn the one on the left looks ridicules, with those ugly ghetto looking fake blue eyes.

  • real black is chocolate

    Lauryn Hill is black legend!

Nicki is wack azz fake azz b’tch!

    real talk!

  • Gimmeabreak78

Nicki Minaj’s music is no worse than the other brain farts that p.s.s.s. for hip hop music. Although she’s awful, I think my soul dies little every time I hear a Gucci Mane song.

  • Gimmeabreak78

    Oops!

“I meant p.a.s.s for hip hop” in my previous comment.

    @Mock Rock Star

Alright, easy on the Christianity criticism this morning!🙂

But you are right–I vaguely remember HWA growing up, and they were atrocious. Hopefully they have figured out who their collective babies’ fathers are by now.

Lauryn Hill, please come back and put these ignorant female “MCs” in their place! We miss REAL music!!

Rap/Hip-Hop has always been/will always be S-HIT music.Lauryn Hill IS NOT a legend. She WAS only borderline talented vocally.Queen Latifah blew up AFTER she abandoned the genre. This “music” may have had a 30 year era…but WHEN a new style appears it will have been forgotten like last night’s pizza.Proof of that is easy: If the Rolling Stones decided to announce a world tour today-they could probably sell out every arena on the tour within HOURS.Think RUN-DMC could do that? BEASTIE BOYS? SUGAR HILL GANG? LAURYN HILL? Funkadelic would do better.Even the most rabid hip-hop fan/historian realizes the GARBAGE that has been dumped in their ears all these years. The music represents more REGRESSION than PROGRESSION.It can’t disappear fast enough.

Where exactly IS your soul? Do you remember where you had it last?

LAURYN HILL AND QUEEN LATIFAH WERE THE LAST GREAT MAINSTREAM FEMALE MCS!

    R.I.P. BLACK MUSIC
    INFILTRATED BY JEWS

  • B3 Fearless

    @DreTruth

It’s about respect. Right now the bar is so low for a female MC.

At a minimum I would be happy if one came out with:

    1. Clothes on
    2. NOT rapping about sex
    3. Lyrics that actually make sense and that could stand alone as poetry.

I’m in my 20s saying this.

Whoever said Lauryn Hill was just borderline vocally has to be tone deaf. When she sings it goes right to my soul. If you can accomplish that, then you are much better than borderline. I have been listening to music for more years than many of you have been living and I tell you that Lauryn stands out as one of our better vocalists. No, she’s no Aretha, Gladys, Whitney or Chaka but she can hold her own.

    @ DreTruth

I look for lyricism. Period. And the COLDEST chick in the current rap game was Shawnna, but unfortunately, she was MAJORLY slept on.

  • TheNV_of.all_women

The Love Jones soundtrack featuring LHill Fugee La at its best. Miss you L Boogie

  • Mooney44

Dr. Funk your so wrong it isn’t even funny… I’m not a Jay_Z fan but the last time I checked he was selling out arenas and So was Kanye… I do recall RUN-DMC cming back and doing the same thing. Hip_hop is no more degenerative than rock-N-roll especially when you get into heavy metal. Yes “MAINSTREAM” has gone astray from substance but, believe me hip-hop isn’t going anywhere
