For Discussion: Marilyn Minaj And G.I. Drake Land The Cover Of XXL, But Are These Young Money Rappers Doing Too Much???

Nicki Minaj Drake Domination Rap Royalty XXL Cover

Young Money’s picks of the litter Nicki Minaj and Drake posed for the cover of the May issue of XXL looking like a streetwalker and a G.I., but we have to admit the caption NICKI & DRAKE DOMINATION: The Rebirth of Rap Royalty caught our attention. Pop the hood for a good old fashioned hip-hop debate — we need to know if you think Nicki and Drake are deserving of these so-called crowns.

Neither Nicki nor Drake has dropped a full length album, but they’ve done features with artists ranging from Jay-Z (“Off That”), Mariah Carey (“Up Out My Face”), Robin Thicke (“Shake It For Daddy“), Usher (“Lil Freak”) and Timbaland (“Say Something“) just to name a few, both have won coveted magazine space (don’t forget the Complex and Fader covers) and Drake is already stuntin’ for Sprite. On the flip side — there are plenty of naysayers on the other side who aren’t convinced either of these two is worthy of all this praise.

With all that said, are these two worthy of being called Rap Royalty without the platinum ALBUM sales — or is the fact that their mixtape claims to fame have made them notorious, reason enough to crown them now? And how many folks feel these two are already doing too much? They’re everywhere, on every song, video, party, concert, commercial, magazine — is it possible they’ll burn out before they even get started? Or will they peak before they even see a release? Some folks are saying they’re sick of these two already!

Please discuss…

The record label are focusing only on one thing…other artist are push to the side. I think when the record label perform this silly task…they create a bunch of one hit wonders.

ok..they airbrushed the shxt outta drake! hes looking dark & lovely! if only he looked like this in real life instead of a geeky jewish boy, smh

  • Presenter Julie Ann (In London)

Simply out no they do not deserve the crowns. I hate that Drake just sounds like Lil Wayne. I would rather listen to Lil Wayne if that’s the case not a replica

  • Glok..I spit it so eloquently,..My pistols represent me!

I personally feel like Nicki Minaj brings something to the table that is so new and a breath of fresh air that shes going to be here for a while people were sick of the SAME OL FEMALE rapper and this is why Nicki is rising so quickly she just needs to keep her momentum going.

  • Mrs. Bosslady1

they are not doing to much. What do you expect when ur fronter runner is lockup.

  • B3 Fearless

No. That is the simple answer and I’m sick of ppl equating record sales with talent.

I love Drake and like Nikki’s work pre-Young Money but they need to put out a full body of work before they can be crowned.

They haven’t begun to pay their dues yet to be getting any sort of title besides Reigning New Artists.

  • GotYou

Why not? They throw around titles in the entertainment industry recklessly all the time.

  • You Smell Me??

However they are everywhere, so one can say they are kinda running the game right now. Similar to royalty.

  • MrTavMarie

Why does Aubrey look like the Prez? And Nicki looks like Diamond (she won’t be pleased).
