A year ago today, 11-year-old Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover hung himself after being subjected to months of merciless bullying at school and he’s not the only one — in this last year we’ve seen an increase in young lives have been lost to suicide. But there is a battle being waged to prevent this from happening to others. Details under the hood.
Since Carl’s death, his mother Sirdeaner Walker has testified in front of Congress to ask for President Obama to pass the Safe Schools Improvement Act-federal legislation that would make effective anti-bullying policies mandatory in nearly every school in the United States. Sirdeaner, who is also a domestic violence and cancer survivor, will not stop until federal legislation is passed and every school can be a bully-free zone.
