    Caramel, totally off-topic, but I read another excerpt that I have to share with you: “Some black women long to be done with the whole image of the Angry Black Woman. Black women may be the only women on earth who are fighing for the freedom to be more traditionally feminine.”

  • Man, I just don’t care™

    @LA DIVA

    I co-sign Angie Stone. Not TOTALLY familiar with all of ther stuff but those that I have heard have been good.

    I also feel like Musiq Soulchild is COMPETLEY underrated and underappreciated. I think I like the majority of his stuff.

  • Who Cares

    @Cut the bull What ever you say dear you know you wish you looked like her but you dont instead you look like PRECIOUS.LMWAO!!!!!!

  • Caramel Cat™

    @MIJDC

    I agree with you about Maxwell’s album, a total masterpiece and it only had 9 songs…

    Musiq Soulchild has fallen off IMHO, he tried to go a little mainstream for a minute and it turned me off as a fan…

  • Sydney™

    @LaDiva

    Yes, the best to him. I loved his duet with Aretha, too. He’s one of the few performers who can carry his own with her, IMO.

    @Caramel

    LOL, yes, it seemed that way. I was just trying to figure out what the source was of all the ire.

    “That’s very deep. It’s so funny because I was a total priss growing up (and even now), but even that doesn’t matter on a grand scale…smh…”

    My friend and I talked about this yesterday, and she said she has no problem being as prissy as possible. I think it does matter to some of us that we’re allowed to be as feminine as possible because it seems that the opposite is expected out of us.

  • DaHonestTruth ~ I Will ALWAYS Keep It Real

    Notice how NONE of the black women bashing so called black men on this board are in here now? But when one shows up they’ll all start showing up. Thisis what makes me believe they are pretty much all the same person.

    Oh yeah, that Maxwell album is timeless. I was 100% not a fan and felt he was sooooo overrated before this album. I still only like one or two of his songs prior to this album. But I like EVERY song on this one and can listen to it all day.

    Yeah, I think Musiq strayed from his formula but I think it was more of a “management” type decision because some of his later songs just didnt’ seem like “him.” His lyrics are always tight, among the best, and his vocals are underrated tho.

    It’s from a new book, “Fierce Angels: The Strong Black Woman in American Life and Culture,” by Sheri Parks, a University of Maryland a-s-s-o-c-i-a-t-e professor. I read a review of it recently in the Washington Post, and I had to pick it up. It’s very informative. I’m on the chapter about the depiction of Michelle Obama during the campaign.

    ~~~
    I know what you mean. It’s a subtle but ever present mentality that I find myself trying to keep up with. It’s like there’s an expectation of a deep voice, irrational behavior, loudness, etc. I have a funny story to tell you. I friend of mine has a husband and three daughters. Her husband makes a strong six figures so she was able to stay home and be a housewife/stay-at-home mom. She worked part-time every now and then just to keep busy and she and I met when we both worked at the same place. The secretary that worked in our suite was as dumb as a box of rocks…I mean she would do dumb stuff like try using the coffee pot while it was obviously still brewing….lmao! Anyway, one day my friend brought her youngest daughter up to the job and the secretary asked her about her other daughters. She insinuated that all these children were from different men and said something in reference to their ‘fathers’…my friend turned to her and said ‘you know what, I know you think that all black women have kids by different daddies but I will re-iterate that my children all have the same father, MY HUSBAND!….’ The secretary just sat there looking stupid….it was a cla.s.s.ic moment!
    Oh my, that’s horrible! Do you remember when Faux News referred to Michelle as Obama’s “baby mama” during the campaign?
    My friend shared a story with me that I thought was very disturbing. She was in a store checkout line, and there was a non-black couple ahead of her who were purchasing a heavy boxed item. The cashier, a sista, asked the man to lift the box for her to scan because it was too heavy. He told her it was too heavy for him to lift, so she proceeded to struggle to lift it. My friend was taken aback and told the sista that if the box was too heavy for him, it was certainly too much for her to lift on her own. The cashier kind of laughed it off and joked that “you know, we’re stronger than they are,” or words to that effect. But we’re not. We’re women.
    @Man
    MIJDC:
    Whats taking so long?? Are you trying to find something in Google?
  • Sydney™
    @Caramel
    Yeah, they’re both two of the most well-known and acclaimed works of American literature (I was very affected by Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” when I read it years ago), but they also describe a very painful, divided period in our history in stark terms and images.
    There are also variations of the “mammy” stereotype and other images that continue to this day. You can still go into a supermarket and buy Aunt Jemima pancake mix, right?
  • fagmockrockstar
    KIM LOOKS LIKE A TRANNY SO I WOULD HIT IT. BUT EVEYBODY KNOWS I AM A FLAME SO WHERE THE BOYS AT?
  • Caramel Cat™
    @Sydney
    Girl, not just the supermarket, there are a few shops local in my city that sell novelty type of cards, games, toys, gadgets, etc. My mom and I decided to go browsing one day in this shop and they had an upstairs and a downstairs. The downstairs had a bunch of controversial novelties like posters, records, clothes, etc. My mom and I ran across a Christmas card (and this was meant to be funny)….it had a bunch of black nappy headed dark kids standing around a manger and the bottom caption read: ‘Who chile dis be?’
    At that moment we walked out of the store disgusted….there are people in this world that find this stuff to be like a ‘collectors items’ or ‘novelty’ ….
  • Sydney™
    @Caramel
    “At that moment we walked out of the store disgusted….there are people in this world that find this stuff to be like a ‘collectors items’ or ‘novelty’ ….”
    Yes, they do. I think there are still some people who even still display the offensive black lawn jockeys. Some of these symbols can still be seen in other countries as well. Do you remember the recent controversy with Mexico over the stamp?
  • Caramel Cat™
    @Sydney
    No, I did not hear about the stamp controversy, what’s that about?
    You’d be surprised how many lawns in the suburban midwest still have those jockey statues sitting big as day for all to see…
  • Man, I just don’t care™
    Would the SEC recommend endorse what you stated?
  • Sydney™
    @Caramel
    It actually happened in 2005 when the Mexican government issued a stamp depicting a black cartoon character with widely exaggerated lips and other features that made him resemble a monkey. His name was Memin Pinguin and the stamp made national news and prompted a statement from the Mexican president, I think.
    ‘You’d be surprised how many lawns in the suburban midwest still have those jockey statues sitting big as day for all to see…’
    I’m not surprised at all. When some people say that we should let go of the past, they should recognize that in a number of ways the past is still very much with us.
  • DaHonestTruth ~ I Will ALWAYS Keep It Real
    Sure – the SEC would agree that regardless of what type of portfolio you were opening you’d need to know all the info I listed… Now – answer the question… Show me where what I said was wrong. Its that simple MIJDC – show me!
  • DaHonestTruth ~ I Will ALWAYS Keep It Real
    and again – here is the question:
    ““What’s the primary thing you review when determining the financial health/investment oppurtunity of a business?””
    my answer:
    ““Among things there is the total year equity of the company such as: as s ets, the liabilities, retained earnings along with the future business diagnostics present company position, strategic direction and risks… I’ll be glad to let you know more if you desire it.”
    Show me where the SEC or anyone else would say this information is wrong and that you don’t need to know these things regardless of the investment type…
    yeah – I have always felt like only an ignorant person suggests that black people just move on from their history in/with this country..
  • Sydney™
    Well, we all know how the justice works — or rather, doesn’t work — in a number of cases.
    @Caramel
    I thought the campaign exposed a lot of unresolved racial issues in this country. Obama actually had to refute a number of stereotypes — and there were also blatant attempts to stereotype Michelle — in order to finally be viewed as a viable candidate, in the eyes of some people. And we’re still seeing divisions along racial and c-l-a-s-s lines.
    Frank Rich wrote a piercing commentary recently in the NY Times about the health care debate and how it really wasn’t about health care at all. Unfortunately, I’m having trouble posting the link but the title was “The Rage Is Not About Health Care.”
    Girl, you’re right. When Sarah Palin was first introduced to the nation, the news covered a small town (of course the areas that John McCain was trying to win) and this older white lady looked in the camera and said, “If Obama wins, the blacks will take over and the country will be messed up for good…” I never forgot what that old bag of wrinkled smelly bones said…what a disgrace…
    Ben Roethlisberger will not be charged with sexual a s s ault, according to Ocmulgee district attorney Fred Bright. Bright said that the charge could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
    Roethlisberger was accused of the sexual a s s ault in early March, the second time he has face such an accusation in the past year. A college student alleged that the two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback a s s aulted her at a Milledgeville, Ga. nightclub.
    Roethlisberger admitted to having “sexual contact” with his accuser, and reports claim that he “aggressively hit” on a bar patron and that the Steeler’s bodyguards blocked access to the bathroom in which the a s s ault allegedly took place.
    While Roethlisberger will not face criminal charges, he still could face a suspension or other disciplinary measures from the NFL or Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers quarterback will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell later this week.
    “yeah – I have always felt like only an ignorant person suggests that black people just move on from their history in/with this country..”
    There is a schism, IMO, between what some people may wish to see in this country and what actually exists. Race was an intrinsic component of the founding and development of this nation. It stands to reason to observe that it’s still a part of our daily interactions. Look how many racially tinged incidents occurred during Obama’s first year in office.
    I stopped reading Perez Hilton after I read reference after reference to blacks as “monkeys” and other derogatory terms (some of which, sadly, I see some posters who refer to themselves as black use on this site). There was a thread about Serena Williams that bothered me, in particular. The comments were exceptionally brutal.
    “regardless, they’re still the ones running everything, managing all the money, and enjoying the advantages of the ‘privileged’… so I don’t know why on earth they’re complaining…smh…”
    They’re complaining because they don’t see themselves as “privileged.” They don’t see how their skin color affords them certain advantages, and this has been the reality for generations. It’s easier to say that blacks are exaggerating or that we need to get over past wrongs (although the ramifications of those wrongs are still with us) than to have an honest discussion about race.
    This situation with Ben Rothlissburger really irks me. And this is coming from an avid fan of Ben as a football player because there is absolutely no questioning of his talent and ability.
    BUT, when you get rid of a player for doing something of less significance (Santonio Holmes) it sends a bad message to the rest of the team. I hope Roger Goodell (commissioner of the NFL) looks into this.
    Adam “Pac-Man” Jones was suspended by the commisioner without ever being formally charged with a crime. I think the same should happen to Ben. Again, this is coming from an avid fan of Ben.
    No – its not an arbitrary question. What I stated is what is needed in the case of ALL protfolios.
    Now you say you would check CASH FLOW – which are A S S E T S as I stated the other day and here as well – so you already proved I knew what I was talking about there. You also said BOND RATING (a s s esses the credit worthiness of a corporation’s debt issues) – which is the equivalent of RETAINED EARNINGS, LIABILITIES and FUTURE EARNINGS DIAGNOSTICS – which I also mentioned the other day and here as well!     now here is the legal definition of a Bond Rating: A measure of the quality and safety of a bond, based on the issuer’s financial condition.
    Now tell me again that based on this legal definition you wouldn’t need to know the things I mentioned to know the issuers financial condition such as A S S E TS, the liabilities, retained earnings along with the future business diagnostics present company position, strategic direction and risks – everything I said the other day and here today?!?!?
    You sound like a complete fool.
    A.s.s.ets DOES NOT EQUAL CASH FLOW!! Not even close. (You can have a.s.s.ets like cars, property, paintings, stock etc and have NO cash)
    CREDIT WORTHINESS DOES NOT EQUAL RETAINED EARNINGS, LIABILITIES and FUTURE EARNINGS DIAGNOSTICS
    (a companies balance sheet could be impeccable and that does NOT mean they are credit worthy because they may not pay their bills)
    Definition of the word a s s e t:
    Any item of economic value owned by an individual or corporation, especially that which could be converted to cash. Examples are CASH, securities, accounts receivable, inventory, office equipment, real estate, a car, and other property.
    “CREDIT WORTHINESS DOES NOT EQUAL RETAINED EARNINGS, LIABILITIES and FUTURE EARNINGS DIAGNOSTICS
    A creditor’s measure of an individual’s or company’s ability to meet debt obligations.
    Now would you or would you NOT need to know RETAINED EARNINGS, INCOME, LIABILITIES and FUTURE EARNINGS DIAGNOSTICS to know if a company/investor has the ability to meet their debt obligations so that the investor doesn’t take a financial loss if the company cannot meet the obligations???
    “Listen, the more you talk, the more apparent it becomes that you don’t know what you are talking about. Please sit down.”
    When you apply for credit RETAINED EARNINGS- how much you make or what you have in the Bank or your A S S E TS (property) – is very much so looked at. Also your credit score will be looked at to see what your LIABILITIES are and if you pay your bills. So now try again! WHat don’t I know?
    “a person’s financial obligations such as long-term/short-term debt, and other financial obligations to be paid.”
    Now how would you check that? Through the credit history of the company. Only an @ss would think they should take the company’s word for it and not look into it themselves as an Investment Banker would do. It’s called CHECKING THE CREDIT. When you apply for credit does the company take your word that your all paid up or do they run your credit score? We do the same thing. Tahst howwe find the companys liabilities… What do you think we do? Take the companys word that everything is all paid up?
    UM – thats why you check the LIABILITIES, such as the credit score and credit history as well!!!!!! You’d be a FOOL not to check these things.. Are you even reading what I’m posting??? You check all of the things I names not just the retained earnings.. Try again. How did I lie??
    When you check the LIABILITIES you check the credit history of the business – I stated that a few times above and you know I did! The BOND RATING a s s e s es the BONDS worth based on the CREDIT WORTHINESS/LIABILITIES/CREDIT HISTORY of the business…
    And as I also stated above the BOND RATING is also based on the Retained and Future earnings of the company or are you out there investing in bonds from companies that don’t have any financial worthiness now or in the future – cause most investors don’t. They want to know that company can make them a return on their money…
    First off I never said what I posted is the only things you would need for any account. You would need other things as well. What I gave you are the basic things you would need to know to open a successful account no matter what account you was opening! I said they are the things needed for every account for it to be successful. Theer are, of course, other things you wold need ot know based otn he type of accoutn you as opening. However when I was asked the question I was not asked about a specific account nor were either of the people asking it a potential client so I gave the general asnwer of what would be universally needed – and you called me a liar – yet I have been showing you all afternoon how everything I posted related directly to the account, namely you example of a Bond investement. You asked a GENERAL QUESTION and you got a GENERAL ANSWER!! If you want a specific answer then be more specific next time!!
    Just as, in my example you would need ID, proof of address, proof of age and legal status to open any bank account – you wouldneed the things I mention to open any investment account that you wanted to be a successful portfolio!
    Cash Flow:
    Cash flow refers to the movement of cash into or out of a business, a project, or a financial product. It is usually measured during a specified, finite period of time. Measurement of cash flow can be used to determine a project’s rate of return or value.
