Too many folks fixated on race and looks – kind of like when black folks keep each other down by choosing the flashiest uneducated thug or hood rat with the most expensive (or lightest) baby gear. Except it’s being done to a kid who, by all accounts, is humble and hardw-working and never misses an opportunity to name-check his teammates in his success. And he’s white.

Michael Phelps may be overexposed, but he’s not a bad guy (and the overexposure is on NBC, not himself). It’s too bad.

You want to see some equally sad stuff, though, go to the white supremacist sites and look at how the American white racists talk negative about black Olympic athletes, particularly the Williams sisters. I guess at its heart, it’s Same Sh*t Different Day (or Race). If you don’t want to screw them, and they look different from you, then it doesn’t matter how great their accomplishment is, no matter where you sit on the fence you have to tear them down.
