Matt Lauer and his wife of 12 years, Annette Lauer, have reportedly split because he was allegedly cheating on her during “Today Show” coverage of this year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Now BOSSIP has learned the other woman was none other than Whitney Houston’s half-sister Alexis!!! Pop the hood for details.
According to very reliable sources close to Matt’s camp, he was reportedly carrying on an affair with Whitney Houston’s half sister Alexis Houston, who is a young singer/songwriter/producer.
Matt and Alexis met on the set of The Today Show when Alexis accompanied Dionne Warwick on set back in October 2007 so Dionne could sing “I Say A Little Prayer” for the winning couple of the show’s annual wedding contest.
“There was some tension with Dionne and the producers before the show went live and Alexis smoothed out the drama, which caught Matt’s attention,” our source tells Hollyscoop EXCLUSIVELY.
That was the start of many set visits for Alexis. She would often attach herself to charities that Matt was involved in so they could spend some time together. “We all saw through it,” says our source. “Everyone on set knew about his affair.”
According to our source, in March 2008, Matt’s staff booked hotel and air accommodations for Alexis, so she could accompany Matt to South Carolina. “They often stayed in the same hotel, but on different floors,” says our source. Alexis also accompanied Matt on a trip to Los Angeles that summer.
After almost a year, they had a fallout in late 2008, early 2009. “They ended the affair, but he tried to stay in touch,” says our source.
When Matt arrived in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics, he heard Alexis had a small performance during the ceremonies at the Olympic Village in Vancouver, an appearance originally slated to feature her often unreliable megastar sister.
Matt went through several publicists to get in touch with her. “He really made an effort to see her, but he wanted to see her privately,” added our source.
WOW… we don’t know if we’re more shocked to learn that Matt Lauer gets down with the Swirl or that somebody in the Houston family loves wigs more than Whitney (yikes at that red thing on her head).
