Business Camel To Sell Vegas 40/40

Posted by Bossip Staff

Jay-Z is capitalizing on his latest business venture:

Hip-hop artist and businessman Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and his partners said Wednesday they are selling their 40/40 Club in Las Vegas for an undisclosed amount. The 24,000-square-foot sports bar and lounge in The Palazzo and Casino will not operate under the 40/40 brand, as the sale is for the lease and not the naming rights, the partners said. No reason was given for the sale of the Vegas branch of the club franchise.

“The sale is a great business decision; we are delighted. We look forward to expanding the brand even further to Chicago and Tokyo,” Carter said in a statement. Carter and his partners said they plan to open 40/40 clubs in Chicago, Tokyo and Macau in the next 12 months.

“Undisclosed Amount” means he sold that ish for mad paper. Hova’s definitely on top of his business game.

  5. truly business like. Now all them *****ers with them dumb ***** claims ain’t goin even have a job.

    on 50**

  11. Hannibal

THAT’S BECAUSE 50 CENT IS A BETTER RAPPER THAN JAY-Z!

  12. Terminator Hex

Did *anyone* at Bossip graduate from High School? When you sell a business for the building and not the name, it means that the name and image aren’t worth a damn. “Mad paper?” Riiiiiiggght. “Undisclosed amount” means that they took the best they could and got the hell out of there. Read a book, people…

  13. Dame’s money are in his nostrils….how many times I gotta tell the Feds to check?

  14. Sometimes rumours are really true, I never thought they will sell this club.

I always see that pic- Beyonce kisses Idris Elba!!!!

    Love Jay though

  15. Didn’t he just open the club in Vegas? I don’t think this is as big a business deal as people are *****uming it is. The club was trouble from the start including not being completed on the opening date. Anyway at least he got to unload it and hopefully he at least broke even.

  16. Common Without Sense

Ahhhh hello….they were losing money on the club so they had to sale the lease idiots! This was not a savvy business decision…it was common sense. Loosing money on the deal, let’s sale and hopefully break even…

Good PR spin though, you fools go for anything this dude says!

  17. Seek the light beyond the shadows

JZ, Dash called he’s wondering if you could give the man a break. Help the dude out he only needs several million. chump change right?

  18. Jay

That is a tight tie and shirt combo, not easily pulled off but he some how managed.

  19. I’m feeling all the responses that state that the club was a big dud!!!! Joe Camel can say anything and folks keep believing him. Believe me these other clubs will not be opening up throughout the country, I guess that folks aren’t aware of the fact that this country is in a economic resession!!! If you can’t make a club happen in Vegas, damn where can you make it happen!!!!

  20. HEYEW

    he looks good!

Many young beautiful girls on ___MatchWealthy.COM___ wanna marry a man like him. I did see some supermodels there. Maybe U guys can have a try.

  21. VoiceOfReason

Undisclosed amount is this case means the low-low. You know that wasn’t making money and he got rid of it. They didn’t sell a franchise so he was basically making back what he put into it. If even that….

  22. VoiceOfReason

  23. klcastillo

He is probably selling 40/40 in Vegas because that ***** is hella whack and *****ody be goin there… I went there once and it was whack… then I tried one more time to make sure and sure enough… there wasn’t anyone there. They have cool VIP rooms in the back, but that doesn’t matter if no one is going!

  24. I'm Just Me- 25 OFFICIALLY!! BTW: I KEEP THE PURP BY THA POUND!!!

I really thought they posted this story like a week ago. Well whatever.

  25. Dame

I heart Jay something serious keep making that money boo

  26. Let's Be Honest

@ Terminator Hex…. that’s exactly what I was saying. Anyone who knows business knows this…lol

  27. cat4everrr

got that grown folks swagger…luvin it!

  28. cutie pie*kindly putting people on blast est.1985* bossip is stalkerlicious

didn’t they just open at that location?

  29. Envy Me (This is a Government Workplace, Why are they fighting as if they were still in High School?)

    IJM

see now he about to get MORE PAPER, so i just know he goin help DAME out LOL

  30. Somer

Bossip is late. Atl radio personalities reported this weeks ago.

  31. kiki

    Jay is doing mad bizness!

  32. Ms. Toson

Voice of Reason, you precisely threaded that needle with your comment..I cannot help but solely agree.

  33. The Grundle

I’m surprised they sold the spot that quickly, but I’m inclined to agree it was because the club is not up to par when compared to the other spots in Vegas.

I’m not knocking the spot, as I had a wonderful time in the Jay-Z room this past Memorial weekend, but when compared to spots like Rumjungle and even the Hard Rock, it had much to be desired.

  34. sniper

He needs to use some of that money to get a nose job.

Just look at that hideous nose.

  35. sniper

Cleaning that nose/nostrils out must be hard work.

He’s probably got hired help to do that for him.

  36. NYC Gal

These rappers always overestimate their worth. He open this club in January and selling it in August! I usually hear of businesses hanging in for aleast a year… but damn 7 months! This club wasn’t making any money and he had to sell it for cheap. If it was alot of money, he would have mentioned it.

  37. Really

Undisclosed amount means it was probably a small amount. Have you seen Jay-z ever undisclose anything even including his livenation deal?

Sounds to me like the Vegas 40/40 wasn’t doing well. Probably couldnt compete with all the other great clubs in Vegas. So they made an agreement to cut their losses and give it to new management.

Undisclosed amount = Ton of paper? Where did you hear that, Bossip????????????

  38. Really

    @ NYC Gal,

    That’s what I’m saying!

  39. samech

he got less than what he put into it. Times are hard these days, people ar holding onto their $$. I see more closings in the near future. I hear the other deal- LiveAid- isn’t going well too

  40. always knew

    @Terminator Hex-”

Read a book, people…”

    ___________________________________________________

You’re right about that. The reason for the sale is all the claims that people were making for back wages, and not being paid properly. “Undisclosed sum”, there most likely was not a substantial profit, he probably just didn’t want the headaache and all the other suits he has to defend, sell it and start something else???I thought he was opening other locations internationally?? Well, however it goes I wish him luck….

  41. THIS DUDE IS

OOGLY, NOT JUST UGL–OOGLY –AND BEYAWNCEE THINKS SHE GOT SOMETHING. WITH THAT EGO YOU WOULD THINK SHE WOULDN’T WANT SOMEBODY THIS UGLY. EVEN THOUGH, SHE’S NOT THE PRIZE SHE THINKS SHE IS…THOSE SOUP-COOLER LIPS ARE HUGE!!!! AND THOSE NOSTRILS, ewwww.

  42. Katrina/Born

Mr. Ugly made a bad deal? Awwwwwwww…LOL I couldn’t help myself.

  43. No reason was given for the sale of the Vegas branch of the club franchise.

    __________

Shady. Do some more research Bossip, and get back with us.

  44. Lady Architect

    Terminator Hex,

You are so correct along with other people that know about the business. I’m sorry I have to say this, but I wish people would stop giving Jay so much credit. He has a team of partners. Jay doesn’t monitor sales, watch the stocks, create the proposals or even draw of the plans. He is the developers and if you know anything about developers and how the business is done, all they do is approve what looks good, sign the dotted lines, and give up some money along with investors. It’s obvious that this club was not doing well and investors probably pulled out so he was advised to sell. I’ll give him props on investing his money in things other than gold chains like some of these other silly rappers though.

  45. Vali-Girl

Whatever. The smart thing about it was that he got out before it went under. I think that place was giving him trouble. It probably wasn’t a good move because he made some huge profit; it was probabaly a good move because he was able to wipe his hands clean of that venture.

  46. always knew

@Lady Architect- You are very observant. Hit it right on the head…..

  47. kai

“Undisclosed amount” due to POOR MANAGEMENT and maybe even poor revenue. Lol does anyone on here read a book or two? I could sell rights, liscenses, franchises and turnkey, or really anything I want that I own in multiples to make money, but that does not mean I was generating much profit before. The only smart business move was that he probably kept afloat a sunken ship.

  48. kai

    sinking ship***

  49. kai

and did I forget to mention he resembles jar jar binks in this image..? I wonder what the hell he was thinking looking like this for the camera.

  50. Rah-digga

    @ Terminator Hex

Actually that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The 40/40 brand is a franchise that is synonymous with Jay and he may just NOT want to part with it. With his clubs in NYC and NJ doing so well, I wouldn’t be surprised if the new owners of the LV location wanted to use the 40/40 brand. But if Jay ain’t getting a piece of the LV pie why should he put the whip cream on top?

  51. NYC Gal

He made most of his money from being Executive Producer on all of Rihanna’s cds, 1 or 2 of Ne-Yo’s cds and I’m not sure about Kanye West. His best investment was marrying Beyonce for publicity!

  52. beyoncewho?

hello, idiots, he sold that piece of crap club because IT TANKED. anyone with any kind of business sense knows that a sale for an “undisclosed amount” means that it was sold at the lowest price. you people will believe anything that comes out of this camel’s mouth i see. i guess camel stans are just as delusional as beyonce stans. despite what you people think, they are NOT prince charles and lady diana.

  53. sniper

Whatever – This Camel needs Plastic Surgery.

I’m going to start a petition that demands the Camel get Plastic Surgery.

It hurts our eyes everytime we have to look at him.

  54. Southern L.A. GAL

Who cares. Jay Z is yet, another puppet. Money is not that important as we think we will learn. Once this world start taking it’s toll on us.. The earth is tire of the misuse of her..

  55. ms.kelly

That’s crazy. I was just in at the 40/40 in Vegas this past Saturday, having the best time I ever had at a club-and Jay-z was there. He walked past me in Vip and shook someone’s hand in front me, so then I grabbed his arm.

I was hoping to return one day, it was much cracking than the palm’s clubs…dang!

  56. Royal Chocolate

Hope he uses some of the money to buy some Proactiv.

  57. kevwebb (I GOT NOW, I DON'T CARE WHO GOT NEXT)

@ Lady Architect & Terminator Hex:

Way to throw some light on the subject. Going back to the article about Dame earlier I said the same thing. People give Jay way to much credit. It’s not so much that he’s a better business man than Dame (he’s really not), he has a better tool “Himself.” A lot of things were thrown his way because he’s Jay-Z. Jay was busy selling/making records. Dame put that thing together. While they were on tour with Puff, he heard that Hard Knock Life beat by 45 King. He bought the beat for 10K, and that’s the album that made Jay go from cold to hotter than fish grease! Back to the subject though…points well made. He got out b4 that joint tanked!

  58. tamarra laine

real talk…..he’s probably selling it cause it ain’t doin ***** here in vegas. It’s seriously TANKED since opening. *****ody goes there, I here nothing about it in terms of star sightings (since open) and JAY don’t even hit when in vegas! Although he may visit during the day. He’s right…it IS a GOOD business decision. He can’t have Vegas ruin the 40/40 name.

  59. kevwebb (I GOT NOW, I DON'T CARE WHO GOT NEXT)

    @ sniper

You people talk about how ugly he is with the Camel talk, etc. You’d suck his ***** in the middle of a dance floor with the lights on without a second thought. Cut the bs…

  60. Coop

    @Bossip

I’m a hugh Jay fan but things are bad out in Vegas all up and down the strip. I was out there earlier in the year and every where we went people were talking how slow it was every where.

  61. The Club wasn’t doing well at all. I would bet that he lost a ton of money in this deal.

  62. ET

‘undisclosed’ can also mean he got f’ed in the deal!!

  63. i thought i heard the business wasn’t doing all that hot. If so, then it would make sense to sell out now…the overhead must have been crazy. If he wasn’t getting a return, then the best things was to sell it. get what he can get, and move on to the next venture.

  64. Yo, just left there after stay’n at the Palazzo Hotel for a minute, they wanted my I.D to hold on to ??????? Peep’s must be roll’n up out of that wack spot and not pay’n, yo, the price’s is high as my room was lol and a sip of a virgin daquiri was the cost of some Jordan’s on the real lol, yo, I give that place a big Kluck Em and I’ll take a liquor store with a buffet in it in NYC b4 i floss up in 1 of his spot’s again !

  65. That’s how folks go broke. They spend crazy money in the club, VIPin’ it up, and then the bill comes…gotta go back on tour. LOL.

  66. FLORIDA

The club was not hot. I just left their Saturday and Jay Z was their with about 5 body guards. It’s not worth it

  67. kenya

I love that he has a head for business wish he would be my mentor!

  68. happy to be alive

good business man, but when is he going to get those lips of his cir*****sized?

  69. cocoa

I agree with the others in that how lucrative could this deal have been if it is a known fact that they were losing money there. Just because it’s “undisclosed amount” it can’t be good, come on this is the same camel that goes around talking about his live nation deal, and other bullcrap. he’s just embarresed to let the world know what a failure that dump is.psst “numbers dont lie” I bet it cost him more to open that dump then what he got. so he a loser….everything camel touches isn’t gold. stay home old head.

  70. haters everywhere we go

people always hate on beyonce and jay-z because their favorite artists are not on their level.

jay is the richest man in hiphop, extremely popular, powerful, and respected.

beyonce is the richest woman in rnb, extremely popular, gorgeous, powerful, respected, and has everyone comparing every black female artist to her.

    it makes perfect sense.

they are also the biggest black power couple in music and are in a REAL relationship of 6 years+. Of course people are gonna hate.

    “if i weren’t me, i’d probably jock me too”-Jay-Z

  71. The Hulk

“undisclosed amount”lmao, damn that ***** sounds like it was sold at an auction, that don’t even sound good he like tellin’ us his numba’s. lol at hov the camel pusher “sold”.

  72. trannyq, arf arf arf.

  73. always knew

    @anonymous- who is trannyq?

  74. RIC BLEU34

UNDISCLOSED MEANS JUST THAT. ALL OF OUR BROKE *****ES ARE ON HERE READING ABOUT A DUDE ABOUT TO BE A BILLIONAIRE. WHO GIVES A ***** IF HE TOOK A LOSS.. DO YOU THINK HE USED HIS OWN MONEY TO BEGIN WITH? HE HAD OTHER INVESTORS.. STOP THE HATE! ***** RESPECT THE GAME.. THAT SHOULD BE IT, WHAT YOU EAT DON’T MAKE ME *****.. WHERE’S THE LOVE?”….JAY Z..

  75. always knew

I am not jealous or a hater of JAY-Z or anyone else for that matter…I am happy for his success, I just remembered the various lawsuits for payroll discrepanicies….

  76. always knew

@ haters everywhere we go- Russell Simmons is the richest man in hip-hop, not Jay-Z, I think he’s coming up close, though…

  77. HoneyChile

I’m glad he sold it. It was a waste of *****e, selling warm ***** drinks!

  78. Just the facts

He got out because Sheldon Adelson did not like a club that was empty every night and sucked! You guys should check out the Clark County records website. The club had over 10 million dollars worth of liens. Looks like Jay is a cheap ***** and did not pay the contractors, vendors, or suppliers. That does not go over well in a city that has no tolerance for people who do not pay their bills.

  79. Candid Canuck

Actually “undisclosed Amount” usually means they sold for less than they expected….

  80. Candid Canuck

Actually “undisclosed amount” means they sold it for less than they expected….

  81. Candid Canuck

    @ Just the Facts

sounds like u brought the realness… respect…. give all these Jay-z dyckryderz a wake-up call on the true nature of BUSINESS and the bottom-line..

  82. AnonLV

I’m from Vegas and have been to the 40/40 Club a couple of times. It closed because it wasn’t making nearly the same amount of money as the one in NYC or as other more popular clubs in Vegas. Compared to Pure or Tao that club wasn’t making shyt!

  83. persona

Las Vegas is doing bad in the real estate market.

40/40 has had problems since it opened only 9 months ago.

There were issues with employees and payments.

Undisclosed means this deal was a ***** UP, and he couldn’t get enough money to even mention a ballpark of the amount because it was so low.

  84. Common Without Sense

The club sucks period…it’s over priced, and the amenities are average at best. You fools (me too) in the club paying $20 for some frozen chicken tenders! $15 for a water-downed drink and automatic 25% gratuity for service that sucks! Better yet you charge me $275 for a bottle of Remy that cost $40 in the store!!!!!!

I guess some would call this good business…but where I’m from it’s called PIMPIN. I’ve been too em all hoping the next experience was better than the last…but they all sucked!

if you gone hit my head at least give me good service, quality food and drinks!

keep letting the Camal pimp yall herre…I guarantee you will not see anymore 40/40’s and the one in AC will close next.

  85. Blacksmith

As many have stated, they are selling the lease meaning the club wasn’t as profitable as they thought it would be and now want to get out of that *****e and go to another city. There’s too much competition from other established clubs in Vegas. Smart move on their part, just business, keep it movin’.

  86. Blacksmith

Also important to know and understand, Jay is not the SOLE Owner of these clubs. He is the face, but not all of the money.

  87. I can't say...

they didnt want that jigga boo club out there from the beginning…

That aside- I have to comment on his face in this pic #!@$! @%$%$ #$@!$% $^&^&*^!#!$

&^%&, and thats all Imma say about that!!
