"Malawi Gay Couple Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga Pardoned After Being Sentenced of 14 years hard labor for homosexuality"

BOSSIP has learned the gay couple in Malawi won’t have to serve hard time after all.

Malawi’s president, Bingu wa Mutharika, on Saturday pardoned a gay couple who had been sentenced to 14 years in prison after their conviction on charges of unnatural acts and gross indecency.

Their sentence, the maximum penalty allowed, was a consequence of the couple’s holding a traditional engagement ceremony in an insular nation where homosexuality is largely seen as nonexistent or something that must be suppressed.

The case had drawn international attention as another example of the broad antigay sentiment in Africa and was condemned by human rights groups worldwide.

“These boys committed a crime against our culture, our religion and our laws; however, as the head of state I hereby pardon them and therefore ask for their immediate release with no conditions,” Mr. wa Mutharika said after meeting with the United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, here in Malawi’s capital.

“I have done this on humanitarian grounds but this does not mean that I support this,” he added.

Last month, Mr. wa Mutharika was quoted as calling homosexuality “evil and bad before the eyes of God” and something “we Malawians just do not do.”

Mr. Ban was to address Malawi’s National Assembly later on Saturday, and was expected to ask the legislators to change the laws on homosexuality.

The couple, Steven Monjeza, 26, and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, 33, were arrested Dec. 28, two days after they threw themselves an engagement party at the Blantyre lodge where Mr. Chimbalanga worked as a cook and a housekeeper, referring to himself as “Auntie Tiwo” and insisting that he was a woman.

These guys are super lucky the whole world was paying attention to their case, because it sounds like the President only pardoned them thanks to all the international pressure!

Boooooo to Malawi for caving in to the “homosexual agenda”! I was glad they stood their ground…Oh well…

    @ Diane Rose

If he did’nt care about homosexuality, than why does is it clearly stated in the bible, that homosexuality is an abomination? It’s years of conditioning that has led most to believe that it’s okay.
If you don’t believe in God, than he does not believe in you.

Meant to say state not stated.

    I’m about to puke! Ugh!

MELO: That’s a really poor attitude to take. These are our brothers, that were having a ceremony in their own house with their own friends & loved ones supporting them, when the cops raided them and through them in jail and beat & tortured them.
I don’t care what the laws are — no one should support that. This has nothing to do with an “agenda”, this is about being bullied and humiliated by your own country. I think it’s sad that you could support that.

That weak azz President, they better be glad i’m not running that country. They would have been deceased long time ago.

It’s so sad, the way black people hate each other. And most of the people on this site are of a younger generation, I would imagine. That’s horrible what happened to those two men in their own country, by their own government. I can’t believe some of the comments from people . . . but then again, I can. so sad.

  • I don't date Black Americans

YUCK. Keep the HOMOS far awayyyyyyyy as possible. Homosexuality is not African at all, these two are probably posessed by demons.

Homosexuals are possesed by demons in general why do you think they are always reckless, defensive and suicidal?

  • no problem

Ugh I’m so sick of gay ppl! Obviously its not natural but as a society we make everything wrong and unnatural ok. It’s like we shove it in ppl face til everyone tries to act like its right. Just look at these two and tell yourself with a straight face n clear pure heart that this is normal and god wanted it this way. Yeah right, I thought so. I’m not judging them but I clearly know this isn’t right.

Just be glad that this is not olden times, because than they would have been stoned to death.

“God” did not write the bible. I believe in a creator but not this bogus christian God that you thumpers throw up to hide behind. Consenting adults can do what they do. If its that real let god take care of it.

  • drock

The Bible is the word of God. However you are entitled to your beliefs, God created us with free will.
But I find it clear, that man was made for woman, and woman was made for man.

@N.Athon – My views are my views. I’m not a Bible fanatic but I believe nature and common sense dictate what is right and what is wrong. They broke the laws in their country, which had clear consequences, and they were punished accordingly. They weren’t supposed to be doing that in their home or anywhere else in their country. They chose to break the law and they were caught in the act. Kinda like you setting up a meth lab in the comfort of your own home. The police in this country have the right to raid your home at anytime.

Man and woman. Period. Point. Blank.
