Word is John McCain’s running mate is into some shady dealings:

On March 5th, 2008 Alaska”s Republican Governor, Sarah Palin, announced to the media that she was 7 months pregnant with her 5th child. She is currently 44. Palin”s daughter Bristol is 16 and attends an Anchorage high school. Students who have attended class with her report that she has been out of school for months, claiming a prolonged case of mono. Palin does not appear pregnant in any recent photographs. The announcement came as quite a shock to people who had worked closely with her, and have been quoted as saying that she did not appear pregnant whatsoever during the prior 7 months.

Covering up for her knocked up hussy of a daughter, ehh? Hmmm…not a good look.

  • tintin

damn, she’s taking it from the desperate housewives, daughter gets knocked up but mom will raise the baby as if it’s hers

  • Sherri

That explains why she went back to work just 3 days after “having the baby”.

  • Bubothehater

Could’ve hat it aborted, then she would’ve been a perfect democrat nominee. But she has equivilant experience to Obama

  • Redd Tony aka Earth Sign (Its time for a Revolution)

This whole election is planned out. Barack Hussein Obama will be our next Pres

  • I’m Just Me- 25 OFFICIALLY!! BTW: I keep the purp by the pound!!

OMG!!! WORD!! Of course she doesn’t look preggers now anyway. If she was 7 months in March the baby was born May or early June at the latest, so she shouldn’t look pregnant now anyway. But whatever. I am not suprised the mud has already started slinging.

  • vegasgal

Damn, if that’s true then McCain is REALLY done. I read that rumor elsewhere and even her staff was suspicious about her pregnancy, saying she would still drink caffeinated coffee every morning and go on strenuous jogs, which pregnant women aren’t really supposed to do. And five months out of school is a helluva long time for mono. I had a friend in high school who had it and he was only out for a month.

That was also the rumor at the daughter’s school, that they really pulled her out because she was pregnant. That’s how it happened at my high school, the girl would walk around with baggy clothes on for a while and then magically disappear for a few months. That family isn’t fooling anyone. Palin has also gone on record saying she opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

  • Certain

LOL@ this. It will be interesting to see, but can this be proven or is this something that should be mentioned and then we just move on. I am still shocked by this VP though.

  • vegasgal

And not for nothing, but when a woman has a baby later in life she’s gonna put on some serious weight. It’s one thing when a really young girl has a baby, they might not gain as much because their metabolisms are so fast, but when your forty something your body tends to store weight easier, so the fact that the governor hardly looked pregnant is suspect in and of itself.

  • http://girlyousowellspoken.blogspot.com MissJodie

that is hilarious! made for tv drama (literally!)… alright Bree van De Kamp! whatever you gotta do for the family!

but seriously, if this is true it is a big deal. you can’t just lie to the world to cover up your teenage daughter’s pregnancy. is that what it comes to? let’s hoodwink and bamboozle the world to avoid abortion or adoption. looks like the egg is on their faces…

  • justmoi

LOL! Wow I don’t really know what to say, but for some unknown reason I’m quite ready to accept this ‘rumor’ as truth(which is quite unlike me), there’s just something off about this lady…

  • Kahmmillion

That’s what them white folks do….

McLaim would do anything to win…You know that’s not his first or second or even third choice…that’s just a tactic to get to the dumb women voters who are still upset about Hillary Clinton when things need to change. Life is getting to hard!!

The “American Dream” is turning into an American Nightmare for so many people.

  • http://youtube.com/fifitrooper ( The Delicious Ms. Sugar Walls ♥♥♥♥)

he is insane, he won’t go on ad nauseum about howe 0b*ma has less experience than his first pick, the beauty queen.’ For it simply isn’t true, everyone knows it isn’t true, and he would look divorced from reality if he insisted it WAS true. Her executive experience, I am told, is not the right kind to be used when and if she has to govern. Beyond that, people have been talking for months about Ob*ma’s own executive experience…in running such a brilliant campaign.

Plus you only to have to listen to her to see that she doesn’t carry herself with anything near the authority and confidence that one sees in Ob*ama

18 months in experience= sarah Palin

Congratulations America; just what you’ve always wanted. Klondike Annie to represent your country as President when John McCain tr!ps over the next microphone cord.(LOL)

All the Catholics will love her, a lot of women will love her. The desperately stup!d will love her. If any Hillary Clinton supporters would switch their vote on such a tenuous hypothesis, then Hillary Clinton wouldn’t have wanted you in the first place.

John McCain is making a sucker bet, offering up Klondike Annie to gather in women, conservatives, gun lovers, and h!llbillies all over America. . I can just hear her Klondike clodhoppers and she gets out of the limo in front of the Elyseé Palace, parks her chewing gum under the car’s rocker-board, and galumphs up the red carpet. How wonderful ! Those dulcet? No, cross-cut saw pronouncements, reverberating like twanging tin roofs in the most sophisticated nation on earth.

some what like GEORGE F*CK UP Bush!

    and

And there”s more ” check out the photo above taken with Palin”s daughter having a bulge in her stomach.

And even more. Since these rumors have begun circulating, the Alaska Department of State has taken down ALL PHOTOS of the governor and her family from the state”s website.

I’m not knocking the lady for trying to protect her daughter. But if you have that kind of scandal in your recent past, you really have no business running for vice president. If that”s what she wanted to do, she could have done like Janet and Rebe and just stayed out of the limelight for a minute

The MSM/Press is chicken to report this, this reporter has learned that The National Enquirer is all over this one. Expect the scandal to get bigger

    wow can you say scandal??

  • MIA

wow this is wild as i dont know what.

I dont even know what to say. I mean she is in public service, did she really think it can be hidden. I hope its a rumor for her sake cause this is just beyond crazy.

  • Sydney

I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something really off about this woman. . .I watched the McCain-Palin rally yesterday in Pa. on CNN, and it was clear to me that these are two individuals who don’t know each other at all, and, they look pretty odd together. Even Cindy looked uncomfortable, IMHO.

BTW, the NY Times reported today that McCain was pushing to have Lieberman as his running mate:

“For weeks, advisers close to the campaign said, Mr. McCain had wanted to name as his running mate his good friend Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, the Democrat turned independent. But by the end of last weekend, the outrage from Christian conservatives over the possibility that Mr. McCain would fill out the Republican ticket with Mr. Lieberman, a supporter of abortion rights, had become too intense to be ignored.

With time running out, and after a long meeting with his inner circle in Phoenix, Mr. McCain finally picked up the phone last Sunday and reached Ms. Palin at the Alaska State Fair. Although the campaign’s polling on Mr. McCain’s potential running mates was inconclusive on the selection of Ms. Palin — virtually no one had heard of her, a McCain adviser said — the governor, who opposes abortion, had glowing reviews from influential social conservatives.

Mr. McCain was comfortable with two others on his short list, Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. But neither was the transformative, attention-grabbing choice Mr. McCain felt he needed, top campaign advisers said, to help him pivot from his image as the custodian of the status quo to a change agent like his Democratic rival, Senator Barack Obama.”

  • I’m Just Me- 25 OFFICIALLY!! BTW: I keep the purp by the pound!!

    @ Suga

I thought the girl looked pregnant in this pic too!!

  • Sydney

    LOL @ “Klondike Annie”

I’ve also read references to her as “Alaskan Barbie.” :)

If this rumor is true, I think it would pretty much sink McCain’s campaign, IMHO. Maybe it’s not too late for him to pick another woman (I kid). According to the Times, here were some of the other names on his short list: Meg Whitman, the former chief executive of eBay; Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; Carleton S. Fiorina, the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard; and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Republican of Texas.

  • G.SHAREI

WHY is that loser still in the race? Dumb. WHY did he pick her? I’m not getting that guy. I try not to be bias about the race issue but OUR man is the more qualified, polished one for the job. That guy is living in a cartoon world. He’s making this too easy for our next Pres. IF THAT IDIOT WINS….something is seriously wrong with our country.

  • 1TruDiva w/The PlatinumVocals!!!!—The Bodyguard was a classic!!!!

Although I’m not a fan of McCain and his choice, I’m kind of on the fence with this allegation only because I find it hard to believe the McCain wouldn’t have found this out during a background investigation on her.

It’s one thing with the brother-in-law scandal but this would definitely turn people away…

…outright deception? No–this would be too easy to confirm.

Or could it be that someone in his camp has set him up by hiding it until he chose her as his VP?

    I don’t know…I’ve seen worse scandals!

I’ma havta sit back and watch this one unfold.

  • http://youtube.com/fifitrooper ( The Delicious Ms. Sugar Walls ♥♥♥♥)

    Hi..Im just me and sydney

    girl

I was researching Palin. After some serious digging, I am sorry but she was a poor choice. If the target is to bring in Hillary supporters, Hillary she definately not. Her hunting policies in Alaska are appalling, her and McCain’s experience combined is NOT as impressive as Biden and Obama ( if McCain’s tactic is to make experience an issue). We are not even going to go into her current investigation of attemptting to get her ex brother in law fired or about her 17 year old pregnant daughter b/c that’s the private. I’m looking into what she can bring to the country and the answer is not enough. She is not even sure what all the duties are of a VP and if McCain toppled over tomorrow ( God Forbid), I would not feel safe with this woman at the helm. We are not going to even TOUCH the UNION issue b/c Republicans have ALWAYS fought against unions and raising the minimum wage. McCain when women stepped out and voted for Hillary, they voted for a woman that they felt could deliver, This lady does not have the goods. SHe’s cute to look at but she lacks substance. . At last if Obama died tomorrow ( again God forbid) I’d rather Biden at the helm than her. BTW McCain, we know how you really felt about MLK so please drop the pretense

What if this guy becomes president then drops de*d??!!!??? Could she really lead our country ? This is NOT a school P.T.A. Committee, this is the future and leadership of several million Americans. This VP pick is serious cause for concern.

  • Political 4 Real

@ bobothehater. You are either ignorant, a Republican troll, or just lying. Either way you are dead wrong and are simply repeating Republican talking points.

Palin does not have more experience than Obama. He was elected to the Illinois legislature in 1996 and served 7 years, until he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2004. He’s been a U.S. senator since Jan 2005. She has been Governor of Alaska for less than two years and was the mayor of an Alaska town of less than 7,000 before that.

Explain how she has more experience or STFU.

It not about her experience anyway. It about her policies and positions. She is anti-choice (even in cases of rape and incest), wants to teach Creationism in public schools, doesn’t believe global warming is caused by man, doesn’t support a women being given equal pay for equal work and supported right-wing, racist, nut-job Pat Buchannan!

  • http://youtube.com/fifitrooper ( The Delicious Ms. Sugar Walls ♥♥♥♥)

McCain picked her after meeting her once, for an hour, and a telephone call? I mean, come on people.

  • Suckrack Yomama

If Obama’s not man enought to have Hillary as VP,

He’s not man enough to face down Vladimir Putin. After all, Palin at least has been in charge of something. I still don’t understand what a community organizer is except that it must be some leftist excuse for a job.

  • Real Conservative

GET SOCIALIST BASED SCIENCE OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS!

Thank God for Sarah! Finnally, someone who can stand up to reason and logic and put the TRUTH back into our schools. And she is brave enough to take a stand against all the worlds leading scientists that say the Global Warming is a fact! We know that its just a leftist agenda to bring Socialism into America. God Bless the South! God Bless America.

  • Sydney

Hey Ms. Sugar Walls, Diva, It’s Just Me!

OK, ladies, like Keith Sweat sang, something just ain’t right. . .

Suga, lady, you’re absolutely right about Palin’s positions being appalling. As I read on a blog, she’s Rev. Dobson in a dress. She’s about as staunch a conservative as they come. The Christian Right is doing a holy dance.

On the subject of the ethics investigation (which is on the front page of today’s Washington Post, so it’s not private, not anymore) and this pregnancy allegation, I think this is what happens when a candidate is not properly vetted. MCain’s advisers are claiming they conducted a thorough investigation into her background, and Cindy was involved in the process (I doubt that, for a lot of reasons — I don’t think McCain respects her, or any woman, enough to be involved in his decision-making).

Now, as far as her pregnancy, Palin made that a campaign issue when she uses the story of her baby’s disability as a justification for her anti-abortion stance. That’s why this is not off-limits, IMHO. If McCain is elected, the battle to overturn Roe v. Wade will be in full force.

Just months ago, this woman said, on camera, that she wasn’t sure what the vp’s duties entail, and she has admitted that she knows pretty much nothing about Iraq or foreign affairs in general. That’s terrifying. This is not a joke. If elected, McCain would be the oldest first-term president ever, and he already has a history of health problems. This woman is in no position to lead this nation.

  • Sydney

    From The Huffington Post:

When a Fox News morning host, Steve Doocy, testified to Sarah Palin’s national security experience on Friday by saying that her state, Alaska, was so close to Russia, it drew hoots across the media and blogosphere (and even, no doubt, from a few Fox viewers).

This morning, on ABC in an interview with George Stephanopoulos, Cindy McCain endorsed this very view.

Asked about Palin’s national security experience, Cindy McCain could not come up with anything beyond the fact that, after all, her state is right next to Russia. “You know, the experience that she comes from is, what she has done in government — and remember that Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia.”

please, stop with the socialism bullsh!t. you republicans have been using that as a scare tactic for how many years now? it’s getting a bit old. perhaps you should go back and take poli. sci. 101 because obviously you do not understand the differences between socialism and what the american democrats hope to accomplish for this country.

Playing fair is one thing, but I can’t bring myself to vote for someone who doesn’t consider someone rich unless they make 5 million a year or doesn’t know how many houses he owns. He obviously doesn’t know what it’s like for a working class family. Fair isn’t something you republicans are well-known for. Well, unless it comes down to everyone owning guns, right?

  • Sydney

This has just not been the Republicans’ year. Bush has record low approval ratings. Hurricane Gustav threatens to overhaul the format of the GOP convention, which is scheduled to start tomorrow (Bush and Cheney have scrapped their plans to attend to focus on Gustav and the Gulf Coast — they can’t afford a Katrina Pt. 2 during an election year, you know.) And now this unknown from Alaska who totes gun, wants to scrap abortion rights, and happens to be involved in a little ethics investigation back home is in line to be elected to the No. 2 spot in the nation, at a time when the U.S. is perhaps in its most vulnerable state in recent history.

Wonderful, I tell you, just wonderful. People, we must get out the vote and keep a third Bush term from occurring. November 4 is a crucial date on our calendar. Let’s make it happen.

    Obama-Biden ’08

  • Nita

The daughter is obviously pregnant. The mother was not. The picture is the proof in the pudding that all the women who are saying the 11 hour plane trip, the ‘trickle’, the long labor for a fifth baby, the going against doctor’s orders when you know you have a high risk baby, the daughter being taken out of school for FIVE MONTHS ….. have been saying all along.

Now the question is ‘who is the father?’ Daddy or an Inuit?

  • Sydney

    @Diva

I can’t find any solid confirmation of the pregnancy rumor, but it’s all over the blogosphere. Check this out The Moderate Voice blog, www(dot)themoderatevoice(dot)com, which has an entry, which is called “The Fully Vetted Sarah Palin”:

Ok, faithful readers. Now tell me again exactly who vetted this candidate and how long that vetting process took?

UPDATE: Reader johnkelley e-mails to remind me of a segment which I saw on MSNBC earlier. Rachel Maddow (yes, I know… I know) told what sounded like a completely obscure, irrelevant story about Palin giving birth to her last child. Apparently, as she noted, Palin’s “water broke” while on an extended trip to Texas, but she hopped a plane back home immediately to give birth in Alaska, “so desperate was she not to have her child born in Texas.” Is Maddow on to something related to the first story in this piece but not ready to take it to the airwaves?

UPDATE 2: For all of you writing that I’m so far off base on this, check out this piece from ABC which came out far faster than I thought it might. Palin wasn’t even in the running until this week and “a few lawyers” for McCain finished her vetting without the knowledge of even his most senior staff. This was a last minute panic pick to ’shake things up’ as the article says. Thank you and good night. Elvis has left the building.

  • Lala

You can see that the girl looks pregnant even in this picture. They couldn’t put her behind a big purse or something…idiots! oh well, I hope this works out positively for OBAMA, cause that’s all I care about!

@ Nita…Inuit? really? You do realize that there are more White Europeans in Alaska than there are Native Alaskans…Inuits…lol.

  • Sydney

The political pundits are saying that the Palin pick takes McCain’s “experience” argument (which some say was his strongest offense against Obama) off the table. It didn’t work for Hillary, and it hasn’t worked for him. So he has transformed himself into the “Reform” candidate, trying desperately to return to his roots as a maverick, and Palin is supposed to fit into this new GOP “change” ticket. The problem with Palin is that she lacks credibility as a person who can fill the president’s shoes if something were to happen while McCain is in office. The McCain camp has two months to introduce voters to this woman who seems to have descended from nowhere. That’s a tall call.

  • http://youtube.com/fifitrooper ( The Delicious Ms. Sugar Walls ♥♥♥♥)

    lmaooooooooo

    sydney! right on point

Palin is a fanatic on most issues. The story of her water breaking before she gave a speech in Texas and then hopping a plane to give birth back in Alaska sounds whacked. They don’t even let you on a plane sometimes after 7 months! Often people that are this self-righteous and judgmental have ssomething to hide about themselves. I think the National Enquirer is going to break this one, just like they did with Edwards. Serves McSame and the Rethugs right.

  • Nita

@ Sydney, I heard about that! The Republicans have lost their minds! ‘Foreign experience? uhhhhhhhhhh… Alaska is next to Russia!’ (it’s also next to Canada and a lot of other places arctic circle wise, but I guess that sounded ludicrous even to them). Way to capitalize on latent fear of the Russkies. As for Cindy McCain, why is she saying anything? That’s a question better asked of John ‘Horndog’ McCain himself, not Cindy.

@ RealConservative, creationism/intelligent design being taught in schools as the equal of evolution is bullsh*t. How dare you call yourself a ‘real conservative’.

@ Political4Real, they actually lauded her bachelors (bachelors!) in communications from University of Idaho (where??) and her being a PTA member as valid enough experience to go up against Obama and Biden. They have lost their minds. All this time they were dissing Obama for being unqualified to lead……. and here this chick comes with no butt and a smile, and suddenly the Republicans are ready to toss ERRRbody worth a sh*t, male and female, in the party with *real* experience under the bus. McCain must not be thinking about anything beyond his 2-incher. What is wrong with the Republicans?

All she’s really got is being prepared to drill in Alaska. Whooptido. Where are the advanced degrees? The serious community outreach? Someone posted a list of Palin’s accomplishments next to Obama’s recently, and it truly is amazing and outstanding and awesome what Obama has accomplished in his ‘inexperienced’ life.

  • Nor*cal

call me elitist but my take is that an Harvard Law school graduate/ former Harvard Law review president is more prepared to lead than an University of Idaho Political science minor

  • Nita

@Lala, the way I look at the picture, the daughter is pushed OUTSIDE of the family. If they really wanted to hide her pregancy, you’re right they would have done more to try to hide her — or at least surround her with family to cover the bump. But she looks allll bloated and sad and pregnant.

The way she’s positioned, it would be extremely easy to cut/crop her out of the photo. And that makes me very sad.

I mentioned ‘father or inuit’ because I’m being crude and inappropriately nasty. The baby is described as having Downs Syndrome. Downs Syndrome used to be called ‘mongoloidism’. ‘Mongoloidism’ meant that a baby reminded non-asians as someone who is asian. Inuits are related to asians because of the bering strait land bridge Palin doesn’t believe in because creationism says so. The family is obviously conflicted about feeling shame towards their daughter and pride towards having a new little member of the family… even in this photo. Like I said, I was being crude and nasty, and it was inappropriate.

And no, I didn’t realize there were more whites in Alaska than Inuits. Because of the bases?

  • Nita

Yep. Randi Rhodes broke that the day of the announcement of the pick about Lieberman. It wouldn’t have been a surprise, though it would have been deadly in its own way for McCain to pick Lieberman.

As for McCain and Palin not being comfortable with one another — your eye for body language is correct. They’d only met ONCE before. Then all of a sudden she’s the vice presidential candidate. Some vetting. Poor, poor, POOR pandering to women; and it’s neutral pandering to evangelicals. They’re going to like her stances on many things, because she’s a lot more conservative thatn John. But she has five kids, and is working outside the home, and left her fifth baby 3 days after giving birth to run around the state again … a lot of the evangelical blogs are not happy about that. She’s not being a proper woman placing her family and husband first, to them. She’s putting her career first, and that’s a no no, even if her career involves all the right things. So it’s a mixed bag for them.

  • http://youtube.com/fifitrooper ( The Delicious Ms. Sugar Walls ♥♥♥♥)

McCain is a war monger. His attitude is winning the war in Iraq even though Iraq states it’s over and will you please leave. He states the surge worked. It worked to reduce the violence but the country is still in turmoil politically. Comments made by McCain lead me to believe that we would already have a division in Ossetia had McCain been president. Where those troops would come from beats me.

McCain, in my humble opinion, will reinstate the draft to shore up the American military and get ready for the ‘great bear’ as well as the other wars the GOP and neo-cons have planned. McCain is long on mouth and short on troops.

McCain could have picked JC himself as VP candidate. I would vote Obama not only to right the terrible wrongs of Bush/Cheney, but to give sons and daugthers a chance to live without being sent to some war invented by some guy who uses his pow status to answer all questions relevant to the issues.

  • John

LOOK LIKE McCAIN DIDN”T DO HIS HOMEWORK ON THIS ONE!! HE WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT OBAMA THAT HE WAS READY TO SNATCH THE FIRST WOMAN IN SIGHT TO GET SOME VOTES. NOW ALL THE SKELETONS ARE FALLING OUT OF THE CLOSET.

Well whatever. Not trying to participate in a dirty campaigne despite these juicy rumors. And dont expect Obama to do that either because he’s doing things the right way and will not be partake in dirty politics. So this story is good for Star magazine but bad for true Obama lovers like myself, lets win far and square people because McCain has shot himself in the foot.

  • so 510 bay

Hey all, dailykos (dotcom) has the story, or Google Sarah Palin is not the mother. This is one of the most thorough blogs about this story. BTW, it’s interesting that the pic with the “pregnant” teen has been scrubbed from some sites, taken down and put back up with a caption saying it was a pic from 2006.

This entire thing, including the choice of Palin is a hot mess and unfortunately, there are going to be many who will drink the Koolaid…especially since they are desperately searching for any reason NOT to support Obama.

  • eddiedollars215

and for the record I do think this chick is shady and tried to… “save” her daughter from an early motherhood… call it what you want… in my opinion I don’t think it’s right… but its better than premeditated baby murder…

  • Nita

Anybody else heard this? Posted by Oscar’s mom over at DKos:

“I saw yesterday that Tim Pawlenty was orginally slated to be on MTP. The obvious inference is that he was intended to be VP but was dropped at the last moment. McSame told Chris Wallace this morning that he didn’t interview Palin til Thursday morning and hired her the next day. All this betrays a serious last-minute scramble. Was it Obama’s speech, or was something ugly unearthed about Pawlenty at the last minute? Enquiring minds want to know!”

Did anyone watch this this morning? If it’s false, nevermind, but if it’s true……… how can you interview someone on a Thursday and say ‘you’re hired’ on Friday? Whether it was Lieberman or Pawlenty…. Palin interview on Thursday hired on Friday. No way. What the hell happened, in either case?

  • VB

i have to admit i am not happy with either a president obama or mccain.i think mc cain is too much of a military hawk and will focus america more on wars ad mlitary spending as opposed to domestic policy and infrctstructure building.obama seems too egostical for me .i men u could tell from his moving his convention speech location that he is an air head.his policies dont seem concrete and leave a lot to be desired.

  • Ms. Philadelphia

We all know that McCain had to do something to make history now he’s trying to make history twice, by first being the oldest person to be elected as President (72 yrs old-he just had a birthday) and the first woman to be VP…But it ain’t gone work, if he woulda picked Hillary THEN he might have had a chance, but since there was no way she was switching to Republican I guess he picked the next best thing…

This is not the only picture. If you google this story you will see all kind of pictures posted where she was suppose to be more than 7 months pregnant and there was no sign of it. Hey everyone, I’m back, and I found more on Palin.

    From Daily Kos today:

Palin Almost Recalled As Mayor (Updated x3)

    by Eric Schmeltzer

Sun Aug 31, 2008 at 09:07:27 AM PDT

Did they even do anything CLOSE to vetting Sarah Palin?

Yesterday, I wrote about how Sarah Palin was nothing more than a two-bit hack, given the investigation into her abuse of power as Governor, firing the Public Safety Commissioner when he wouldn’t fire her ex-brother-in-law, lied about pressuring the guy to do so, and then showed keen judgment by replacing him with someone who had to resign in two weeks because of sexual

    harassment problems.

Seems that Palin honed this skill back as Mayor of Wasilla, where she was nearly recalled, for firing the Police Chief and Library Director for not supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor.

    Eric Schmeltzer’s diary :: ::

Yes, that’s right. Hack n’ Sack Sarah didn’t even try to hide it. She didn’t say the Police Chief and Library Director were doing a bad job. No, she fired them for “not fully supporting her efforts to govern” (i.e., not endorsing her for Mayor).

  • MISS APPLEBOTTOM IN ALABAMA aka Certified Dime Piece aka Miss 5’5 155 better known as YOUR MAN’S SECRET CRUSH

Where I live there are so many McCain signs in front yards it makes me think he may actually defeat Obama. Barack is an intelligent man and public speaker but in reality either candidate will produce roughly the same results.

The Iraq war will end in due time either way, gas prices will stabilize eventually when people realize the scam is over, and people who live in the projects or lower class will stay there because capitalism is designed for those who are driven to achieve better for themself or their families.

  • Just Sit and Be Pretty

BTW, I wonder where McCain’s adopted “black” daughter is being hidden? Okay, we know she’s from Bangledesh but is it just me, or has she been conspicously “missing” during this process? Maybe she’s away at boarding school *sarcasm*, or maybe after the Bush/Rove smear campaign about the out of wedlock “black” daughter and his subsequent loss in South Carolina a few years back, McCain’s not taking any chances. Why is the daughter not photographed in any of the family pics or at any of the events with big sis Meaghan? LOL, if she makes an appearance at the convention, I’ll really be shocked.

  • Just Sit and Be Pretty

@Sydney, as I was discussing with my brother this morning, her peers didn’t call her Sarah “barracuda” for nothing. LOL, even her teenage friends knew this chick had an “edge”. BTW, you’ve gotta read Maureen Dowd’s column in today’s New York Times, Vice President in Go Go Boots?

  • Sydney

    @JSABP

Are you talking about Bridget? I think she may appear this week at the GOP convention in St. Paul. But I noticed that she wasn’t in the family photos in this week’s People magazine. From the Chicago Tribune:

In fact, the Republican convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul will showcase McCain’s life story. By the time it’s over, one adviser said, every voter will know McCain grew up in a military family and spent 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war, turning down early release.

The convention also will introduce voters to his family, and Cindy McCain will talk about their children, particularly their adoption of daughter Bridget from Bangladesh.

  • Just Sit and Be Pretty

@Sydney, I’m sure they’re going to stress the adoption angle and milk that for all it’s worth…just in case some voters STILL think it’s his “black” love child.:-) Thanks, I’ll check out the Post, it’s been a busy morning and at some point, I’ve got to head out to the gym.

  • Sydney

    @JSABP

Yeah, they probably will. . .it looks like Gustav is drastically changing the convention schedule, by the way. Depending on how bad the damage is, there may not be much of a convention at all, I would think. It wouldn’t look good if the Repubs are partying it up while people’s homes are being destroyed, you know.

In other political news, the Detroit mayor could be out soon: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick would plead guilty to at least two felonies, pay a six-figure restitution and agree not to run for office for two years under a plea deal offered by his lawyers to settle perjury and obstruction of justice charges, the Free Press has learned.

The deal would mean Kilpatrick would automatically lose the mayor’s office and his law license.

you honestly think being the part time mayor of a village of 5000 people is the kind of experience a president should have? I’ve lived in apartment buildings that had more people. you think my old super should be president?

do you have any reason to expect that she has even read the constitution that she would have to swear to serve, protect and defend? Do you have any reason to expect that her journalism degree will help her understand it?

Seriously Ann. McCain is 72 and has had cancer 4 times. 9 out of 44 presidents have died or resigned. Sarah Palin is not a lightweight, she is dangerous.

  • Sydney

Yes, the McCains have an adopted daughter, Bridget, who was the target of ugly political attacks in 2000:

“McCain’s campaign was crushed in South Carolina, and McCain did little to hide his anger, calling Bush “a combination of the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow” — in other words, a man with no courage, no heart and no brain. Cindy McCain stewed over the attacks, particularly the “illegitimate black child” allegation, a vicious reference to their adopted daughter Bridget, a baby she brought home from an orphanage in Bangladesh run by Mother Teresa. The night of the primary, Cindy cried in the candidate’s hotel suite.”

As an aside, I’m glad that Obama and Biden have been focusing on the issues, primarily the economy, and not Palin. If she has skeletons in her closet that haven’t already been exposed, I’m sure they will be eventually. Obama and Biden will appear tonight on 60 Minutes, 7 ET, by the way.

More information about Skankalicious Fundie Thumper Palin’s politics (courtesy of mudflats Alaskan blog, courtesy of Aphid over at Dlisted). I’d say it’s all about oil, but who’s going to govern Alaska if she (god help us) gets into office?:

So what is it that we’re “trying to accomplish up here”?

    * Palin is currently in the middle of a controversial gas pipeline project in Alaska. She’s favored the ‘Trans Canada’ proposal that will run the pipeline through Canada, in effect shipping US jobs over the border. Many Alaskans, including former governors, have favored the “All Alaska Route”.

    * She is also sueing the federal government over listing the polar bears as a threatened species. The science was even compelling enough to convince the Secretery of the Interior that the bears needed to be listed. But acknowlegement of this issue, and the potential disruption to development on Alaska’s oil-rich north slope spurred Palin to attempt to stop the listing.

    * Does she want to open ANWR? Yes. Every politician in Alaska wants to open ANWR. It’s basically a requirement if you ever hope to get elected for anything. Even Mark Begich, the progressive Democrat running against the indicted Senator and Alaskan institution Ted Stevens, is pro-drilling. That’s the sea we swim in up here. There are a few anti-drilling folks, but you have to look hard to find them, and work hard to have them admit it.

    * Executive Experience: Before her meteoric rise to political success as governor, just two short years ago Sarah Palin was the mayor of Wasilla. I had a good chuckle at MSN.com’s claim that she had been the mayor of “Wasilla City”. It is not a city. Just Wasilla. Wasilla is the heart of the Alaska “Bible belt” and Sarah was raised amongst the tribe that believes creationism should be taught in our public schools, homosexuality is a sin, and life begins at conception. She’s a gun-toting, hang ‘em high conservative. Remember…this is where her approval ratings come from. There is no doubt that McCain again is making a strategic choice to appeal to a particular demographic – fundamentalist right-wing gun-owning Christians. And Republican bloggers are already gushing about how she has ‘more executive experience’ than Obama does! Above is a picture of lovely downtown Wasilla, for those of you unfamiliar with the area. Behind the Mug-Shot Saloon (the first bar I visited when I moved to Alaska long ago) is a little strip mall. There are street signs in Wasilla with bullet holes in them. Wasilla has a population of about 5500 people, and 1979 occupied housing units. This is where your potential Vice President was two short years ago. Can you imagine her negotiating a nuclear non-proliferation treaty? Discussing foreign policy? Understanding non-Alaskan issues? Frankly, I don’t even know if she’s ever been out of the country. She may ‘get’ Alaska, but there are only a half a million people here. Don’t get me wrong….I love Alaska with all my heart. I’m just saying.

  • http://youtube.com/fifitrooper ( The Delicious Ms. Sugar Walls ♥♥♥♥)

Well let me refresh your maybe selective seeing and hearing. Palin: “I haven’t focused much on the Iraq war…” And in case you didn’t know, being a U.S. Senator, whether it’s a day or 10 years, one has to ‘focus’ not only on domestic matters, but foreign as well. Why, because you’re a Senator of the U.S. not state Sen. as he was, or Gov. And certainly not mayor of Wasilla.

  • Anon

Obama could have easily done what most Democrats would have absolutely loved- asking Hillary to become his VP. I think that instead, Obama went with who he thinks would be a better VP of our country, asking Biden to run with him. In this case of Mccain choosing Palin, he is doing what he thinks will turn over more votes for him, NOT what’s best for our country. It’s a shame how desperate he is to get Hillary/ women votes by thinking women are that dumb to vote on a gender! We are voting on Experience and credibility, NOT gender, NOT race. Many Hillary supporters are STILL democrats. Having a female running mate won’t get you votes from our female dems! Terrible decision- but thanks for making it!! Obama/ Biden 08!!

Ok, do you really think McCain is that stupid? Before he selected this woman, don’t you think he would have checked her out thoroughly? I admit that I am not a huge obama supporter but I am not a huge fan of McCain either. All of these politicians have a staff that makes sure that there is not any dirt that hurt the main candidate. I don’t trust either candidate – they are lawyers and politician! Who can trust a freaking lawyer? There is no way that McCain would have picked her if this was true. Hillary has too much dirt on her that is why obama did not pick her.

  • Experience?

So where did George W.Bush so called experience get us? Loss of jobs, homes, War for oil, 9-11, high price of gas, food, etc. Bush is an idiot & everyone that voted for him is too. As far as abortion goes, I am against it, but I have no right to make that judgement for others. I don’t see all of you so called right to life fanatics running to the unwanted pregnancy moms trying to adopt or find a good home for these unwanted babies. You people are hipocrits. America gives you choices in life & the Government has no right to force their President’s beliefs on the American public. Yes we can & should get these Greedy, uncaring, selfish, inhuman republicans out of office.

  • ThereIsHope

If Obama & Biden wins I will truly be surprised. I did not expect him to go this far. It is a very emotional time in the history of America. America’s face has changed. America is a melting pot & belongs to EVERY American. I have always wondered, who should really be angry & racist. Forced on a ship to America in slavery. Freed, but lynched, church bombings, men, women & chilren murdered, unfair in education, loans, jobs, homes, etc. But when people of color speak up for fairness then they call it reverse discrimination. Affirmative Action which is for women too & it is to make sure others are given the opportunity to have a better quality of life & the pursuit of happiness. I don’t know where white people got the idea that it is their birthright to have everything given to them & not work for it simply because they are white. America’s face has changed.

  • G in TX

Replying to the post by Experienced?

I see people every day helping young women that are have become pregnant. There are hundreds of volunteers across the nation helping women that have unwanted pregnancies. The problem is that no one reports that. Only report the extreme negatives are reported. No one complains that Planned Parenthood is in every urban and poor communities. Planned Parenthood began as an organization that wanted to control the population of poor people and black people (and now Latinos). It is possible that one of the reasons that the population of African Americans is in decline is because of the effectiveness of the philosophy and strategy of Planned Parenthood and other genocidal radical politicians that would never admit it. If our babies are killed before they are born, there is no way we can come to any real power again – as during the Civil Rights Movement. Although I am not a huge fan of McCain, it is difficult of me to support any candidate that would support the killing of Black babies before they even get a chance. Abortion is a tool used to kill the black race as well as Latinos. Also, a large number of abortions are done just as a form of birth control. Rape or incest cases are very rare. It is birth control to the extreme. Palin, being pro-life, directly or in-directly, supports giving a chance to all babies. There are pro-lifer – some Christian, some not religious at all – that are helping young women to get through the pregnancies and to build lives as mothers or with adoptions.

Theplace: “In other words, Obama’s about as inexperienced as, maybe even less so, then Palin.”

I’ve heard this on TV, too, with a straight face.

Read the article again. 14 years in federal & state govt. Add the Harvard Law Degree. Working in Chicago to make people’s lives better.

Wonder if Republicans realize how little they respect Americans when they make these statements. Do you think anyone is buying it? Even Republicans hold back the laughter when they hear your talking points.

    _–this is a great post

  • G in TX

I agree with Redd… But here is another thought on this whole thing. Many of African Americans see obama as some kind of Messiah for Black people.

Honestly, I do not really see obama a real “brother” anyway. I do not mean no offense to bi-racial brothers and sisters. He was raised by a white mother in rural Kansas, Hawaii, and somewhere in Asia. I do not know too many brothers like that. Plus, his father is from Africa – not somewhere like Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, Bed Stuy or even Harlem. If that was the case, maybe I could relate. My Pop experienced the struggle in this country first hand. He told me about how it was in the 40s – 60s as a Black man in this country. I recognized that Africa had its share of problems. But I am most familiar with the struggle in the USA. And how much could Barry’s grandfather relate to him about the “black” experience. So, I cannot fully relate to obama or see him a “true” brother that came up with the experiences that I had or is having. Yeah, Barry does play the brother card well. But… To me, he just like McCain. I cannot relate to him either.

I agree totally. I understand people come from all walks of life, but Obama has spent most of his life abroad. Who knows if everything they are saying is true.

Another point…I seems as if Obama is sailing through his whole election. You would figure because of the black struggle and how average black are treated in the United States the media and caucasians would give him hell. I mean the whole Rev Wright thing was planned. The media made it seem like Obama was being crucified. Then after that, we heard nothing else. I cant say Obama is your average Black Man, I mean he is intelligent, articulate, smart and successful. But it just seems to be a picture perfect story. I mean the DNC looked like the opening ceremonies fo the Olympics.

  • Marquis de Sade

If you think about it – Palin is McCain’s trump card. In appointing her as his running mate, he has assured himself the support of the most organized and loyal of all voting constituents: THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT! Dobson has already flipped flopped and has thrown in his support, not because of McCain, but because of the appointment their PRODICAL DAUGHTER – PALIN!…And trust me, Dobson’s sizable flock will follow suit. I really gets me is that the Powers that be are playing with our emotions. I mean they have this wonderful Black Man, beautiful family; a model person. How man you even deny him? I mean half of the Black people voting for are Obama are doing so just becuase he is Black. You think they wont after 300 years of struggle? Then you have the DNC happening the same day MLK made the I have a Dream speech. So many emotions. Its is a beautful thing to be Black in America right now. People have to understand leaders worldwide are picked from a bloodline. 95% of the President elected in the US we from elite Euro/American bloodlines. Look at most of the countries around the world, they picked their next leader from a bloodline. It is no different in the US. I am not denying Obamas blackness, however he is the bloodline of GWB.

the baby has down syndrome, which is completely plausible for older parents. however, i did think something was fishy about her having just had that baby at 44 and out jogging and back to work in three days, etc.

mccain thinks people are too stupid to see the difference between sarah palin and hilary clinton. in addition, he wants to give folks who are racist and will not vote for obama just because he’s black the fall back stance of ”

I’m not sexist either” when many damn sure are.

This was smart because many people are, in fact, stupid.

That’s not what’s being reported in Africa. Europeans got the story twisted, and there are reports that these reporters have been whisking him away to fancy hotels then returning him, sometimes drunk after getting what they want from him. The family has put him on lockdown so that he’s not exploited anymore.

He’s not living on a dollar a day and never was. He’s in school. And HE DOESN’T WANT OBAMA’S HELP. This is the same stuff as ‘why is Obama’s black grandmother living in a hut?’ Because she wants to. This family is not like, say, the typical ‘cherry blossom’ family which sells their daughters as brides to old europeans and abusive americans and then expects to be put up in the ‘good life’ on the european/american mark’s wallet.

  • Nita

I can’t find the original story writing in allafrica about what was really going down, but here’s a story posted in the United Arab Emirates’ ‘The National’:

Obama’s brother sets the story straight

    Matt Brown, Foreign Correspondent

…This week, over a lunch of fish and chips, Mr Obama said he has lived in this shantytown for the past few years by choice.

“I like Huruma,” he said. “I have lots of friends here. My neighbours are my friends. I’ve chosen to live here.”

Mr Obama is the youngest of Barack’s seven half-siblings, and he has the same father as the presidential candidate.

George Obama was six months old when his father died in a car accident. He was raised in Nairobi by his mother, who remarried a Frenchman and now lives in the US city of Atlanta.

Mr Obama said he has met his half-brother only twice, but has followed his career and would love to see him end up in the White House.

“He’s definitely going to be president,” he said. “I’d love to have a brother who is president. Having the most powerful person in the world as your brother would be great.”

The reclusive Mr Obama likes to keep his family life to himself. In fact, he only told a few of his closest friends that he is related to Barack Obama, according to John Kiruma, one of Mr Obama’s friends.

“Only three people in our group knew,” Mr Kiruma said. “He didn’t want to tell anyone. I was happy when I learnt. Having [Barack] Obama as his brother is a big deal.”

But Mr Obama, 26, is especially distrustful of the media after an article about him appeared in the Italian Vanity Fair. The story exaggerated his living conditions, saying he was destitute and living on US$1 (Dh3.67) a month.

The article implied that Barack, 47, had abandoned his half-brother. The Republican campaign picked up on this and used it to attack the presidential candidate, saying he does not care about family.

“They were portraying the wrong story,” Mr Obama said. “I’ve pretty much had a good life. I think I’ve lived OK. There’s not much I’ve lacked in life. I don’t live on a

dollar per month, that’s not logical. I’ve never lived in the streets. Those guys were tarnishing the Obama name.”

Mr Obama, who is studying to be a mechanic, said he dislikes it when people compare him to his older brother.

“I am who I am, and he is who he is,” he said. “He’s my brother and I like what he’s doing, but I also like what I’m doing. I don’t think I’ll venture into politics. I just want to get into vehicle mechanics. I love cars.

“I also aspire to be someone great, but in my own department. I don’t think it’s good, the comparison part. The only comparison is maybe our eyes look the same.”

Besides cars, Mr Obama also loves to play football, and he is involved in his local youth group. The Huruma Centre Youth Group cleans up the environment in the neighbourhood and organises sports events and dances for the youth in the community.

“I’m pretty involved in helping the community,” he said.

If Barack Obama wins the November election, George Obama said he might go to Washington for the inauguration, but he said he will not ask his half-brother for any handouts.“I want to make it on my own,” he said.

Arriving back at his house after lunch, Mr Obama was dejected to find a throng of Kenyan journalists waiting to talk to him. Although he hates the attention, Mr Obama said he would not trade his brother for anyone else.

“He’s my family, and I can’t deny that,” he said. “Whether I like it or not, he’s still my brother.”

  • Nita

(and yes the story is cut… can find it on google for the full story by Mr. Brown. I’m starting to get a little wary about copyright — and length — issues. ha. but not that worried.)

Good morning and Happy Labor Day!

Some new photos have suddenly emerged at Daily Kos of Palin in which she appears to be pregnant, www(dot)dailykos(dot)com. Look for the entry “Sarah Palin Baby Story Ender. You can also find a link for them at Andrew Sullivan’s The Daily Dish at www(dot)theatlantic(dot)com.

The Atlantic Monthly also posted an interesting story, What McCain Didn’t Know About Sarah Palin, www(dot)theatlantic(dot)com. Below is an excerpt:

“This year, the intense secrecy with which McCain advisor A.B. Culvahouse completed his vetting of Sarah Palin preserved the surprise. And ultimately, McCain aides say they’re sure that the rewards will be worth the risks. But as the Palin pick turns 72 hours old, McCain’s campaign is learning as much about her from the media and from Democrats as they are from what minimal political preparation they had.

The campaign anticipated that the Obama campaign would attack Palin’s experience, to which they responded by claiming that she has more experience than he does.

They anticipated that some would compare Palin’s Alaska to Clinton’s Little Rock, although Palin, in this comparison, is the anti-establishment figure.

They anticipated that some would compare the pick to Dan Quayle, although Quayle had much more experience and never got along with Bush and was consistently undermined by Bush advisers like James Baker. Apples and oranges.

Privately, one campaign official says they were aware of several of the more scurrilous rumors about Palin making the rounds of the blogosphere, although the official declined to “dignify” them with any comment.

They’ve bragged that Palin opposed the famous “Bridge to Nowhere,” only to learn that Palin supported the project and even told residents of Ketchikan that they weren’t “nowhere” to her. After the national outcry, she decided to spend the funds allocated to the bridge for something else. Actually, maybe it’s more fair to say that coincident with the national outcry, she changed her mind. The story shows her political judgment, but it is not a reformer’s credential.

Likewise, though she cut taxes as mayor of Wassila, she raised the sales tax, making her hardly a tax cutter.”

    _____________________________________________

I still think there are major issues with Palin’s background/views/past, but I think the Obama campaign should focus on the issues. I thought the Obama-Biden interview on 60 Minutes last night went very well, and Obama handled the question on Palin with class and aplomb.

  • Sydney

Hi Nita! I see we’re both copying and pasting this morning, lol. I just posted an excerpt from a good Atlantic story on Palin.

Here’s also a snippet from Obama and Biden’s interview last night on 60 Minutes:

By the time Kroft continued the conversation with them the next day in Pittsburgh, the landscape had already changed: Senator McCain tried to steal the Democrat’s thunder by announcing that Alaska’s conservative first-term governor, 44-year-old Sarah Palin, would be his running mate – a move widely seen as an attempt to try and siphon disaffected supporters of Senator Clinton and blue collar voters in battleground states where Obama has been the weakest.

And a few hours after McCain’s announcement, Senators Obama and Biden seemed as surprised as everyone else.

Asked what he thinks of McCain’s vice presidential choice, Obama told Kroft, “She seems to have a compelling life story. Obviously, she’s a fine mother and an up-and-coming public servant. My sense is that she subscribes to John McCain’s agenda.”

“Does the fact that he chose as his vice president someone what has less experience than you take that weapon out of his arsenal?” Kroft asked.

“Well, you know, I think that’s a good question to address to Senator McCain,” Obama replied. “Of course, the issue of experience is going to be relevant. And if I were running against me, that’s something that I would try to make an issue of as well. Particularly if I had been in Washington as long as John McCain had.”

    1. Why is she flying at all in the third-trimester?

    2. Why did she get on a plane and and wait 12+ hours to get medical attention when she knew the pregnancy was high risk (she’s 44, baby was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome)

If she is so cavalier with her babies life then does she really have the judgement to be in charge of our nuclear arsenal (Bad Judgement + Apocalypse Button = End of Human Civilization).

  • Scram

Let me be very clear. I would love for Barack to run eventually. But this contry is in a mess and I doubt that he can clean it up. I want him to buckle down in the Senate, get seasoned and then run….it’s the natural order. We can’t afford for our first black president to do worse than Bush….that’s all I’m saying. He needs more experience. You cannot deny that….I think black people have pushed him to run prematurely.

    From the NY Times:

ST. PAUL — Advisers to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said on Sunday that Senator John McCain’s selection of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate would lead to a greater role for Mrs. Clinton as she campaigned this fall on behalf of her former rival, Senator Barack Obama.

Mrs. Clinton’s friends said she was galled that Ms. Palin might try to capitalize on a movement that Mrs. Clinton, of New York, built among women in the primaries. And Democrats used strong words on Sunday to rebut the notion: Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts said that women would not be “seduced” by the Republican ticket, and Guy Cecil, the former political director of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, said it was “insulting” for Republicans to compare Ms. Palin to Mrs. Clinton.

I want Obama to win, too. I’ve never been so energized about a campaign. I thought last week’s Democratic convention was electrifying. Even Howard Wolfson, Hillary’s former communications director, wrote about Obama’s speech in today’s Washington Post. But a win won’t come easy. We must work for it. November 4 will be here before we know it.

Yeah our ancestors did fight for the right to vote, but we still only represent 12% of the populaion, and if black were spread out evenl across the country it still wouldnt matter. The electorial college has flaws. The past two elections have been decided by states that I dont live in and with low minority a poputlation. How can a President win the popular vote and still lose? If they change the voting system to one vote counted per person then I would think about it. Hey thats how it is when we vote for our Congressmen and women.

I’m in shock. . .*jaw on floor*

ST. PAUL (Reuters) – The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin’s five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,” the Palins’ statement said.

“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support,” the Palins said.

The Palins asked the news media to respect the young couple’s privacy.

“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media, respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates,” the statement concluded.

    MCCAIN KNEW

Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter’s pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.

In the short period since she was announced last Friday, Palin has helped to energize the Republican Party’s conservative base, giving the McCain camp fresh energy going into the campaign for the November 4 election against Democrat Barack Obama.

McCain officials said the news of the daughter’s pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called “mud-slinging and lies” circulating on liberal blog sites.

According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin’s child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.

A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.

“The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama’s name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their ‘campaign of change,’” a senior aide said.

wow. what family values. Her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and they compounding the problem by encouraging her to marry at such a young age. McCain won’t recieve my vote. His elevator is not going to the top if he thinks he can win this election with such a disgrace for his running mate.

If he croaks we will have a president with 5 children. 1 grandchild, and too many repsonsibilities. She went back to work 3 days after the birth of her son. That is ridiculous. Your children come first. They should not take a back seat to your career. This is the reason why her daughter got pregnant, due to a lack of supervision. I certainly won’t elect a president who has a V.P. who does not have an interest in being a mother to her children. Her husband also had a DUI.
