I’d love to say that a lot of black women would give more play to men like Marc Lamont Hill than to Slimy thug but unfortunately, I do not believe that. MLH is intelligent, handsome and seems to have a strong sense of self. A lot of women would call him corny. Well, a lot of girls rather. Slim thug is the epitome of the bad boy. Girls like the bad boy. So it’s not really a race thing since it goes across racial groups.

Too many young girls want a thug. Too many young boys want to be a thug. But like I said, it’s not just a black thing. However, it seems like it has more extensive and damaging effects amongst black people. It must be another extreme attempt by us to a.s.s.imilate into American society. Sounds farfetched? I was talking about personal experiences and what most of my peeps and black men that I talk to say…Dr. Hill can say whatever he is saying now because of his status but where was the black woman when Dr. Hill was homeless and when he dropped out of College???

The professor was on point in his letter to “Ignorant Thug” and should focus more on things of this sort…..because I couldn’t wait for this bruthas azz to vanish from my television screen during and after the elections because every racist pundit, host, guest or politician that he was put up against as an opposing view whupped his mumblin, stumblin unable to get a point across view. I truly believe Fox chose him because they knew they could punk him and score points for their white viewers with the public lashing be it by tongue rather than whip of a black man…..

They’re both coming from extreme points of view. I’m in law enforcement and I see black men supporting households without the aid of black women. I’m also sick of hearing about the jailed black men and nothing about the jailed black women. Also are we to always glorify women who knowing select thug-types, then are left abandoned and pregnant by them.

We always hear about the black man baby making machine what about white men who now divorce their wives (white and black women) twice that of any other group in America. While I think Slim Thug is a fool (always have thought this) and appreciate Pro Hill’s words, I feel we all will be best served by getting away from myths both good and bad and accept people as individuals and not a faceless mob. The first rule of wisdom is not to accept absolutes.

I’m a black woman and I’m down with any man that treats you right no matter what color you are. If Lamont surrounds himself with whites, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t respect or have honor for black women. That’s more than what I can say for some black men. They want you to be down for them or “ride and die”, which involves wanting you to do wrong for them. I’m not doing wrong for any man. I can do wrong or bad by myself I don’t need anyone’s help. I honestly think there are a number of black men that are envious of the strides that black women have made and I won’t say they are intimated, but it seems like alot of our hip hop artists, instead of honor black women for their minds and their character, they place more emphasis on her body parts and how good she is in bed. Yes there maybe more white women getting married than black women, but based on the high divorce rate, they don’t seem to be any better.

The truth is a lot of women this age want a man to stand out in some kind of why i.e. thug, baller, playa. A regular working good guy just don’t do it for them. It actually probably starts in middle school ages 12 on up, look at the boys who your daughters, nieces, cousins are attracted too. He probably looks more like lil wayne or plies than Lamont or Barack. Seriously parents check your daughters facebook or myspace, don’t bury your heads in the sand. Marc Lamont Hill forgot to mention the most daunting fact, which is 90% of black children grow up in a single parent home or a home lacking both original parents of the child. So how can Mr. Hill suggest that Black women are great candidates for wives when they grow up, when they have no example of how a wife is supposed to act. Much of the fault is the upbringing or lack thereof. Young women grow up, and have no idea how to interact with a husband, but is fostered with the overhearing of bad mouthing of the man because things didn’t work out with momma.

It all just seems a bit one sided to me.

It seems that its okay to bash black men but then if some black man offers a negative or constructive observation on black women then they are immediately attacked.

I hear you sisters when you say that black men need to step up and be better men.

The major flaw in Slim Thug’s statement is that he made a hasty generalization. He started off his statement with the words “Most Black Women”. I believe if he had revised his statement and said “Most black women that i have encountered…..”, it would not be criticized so vehemently and would not have made the women who do not fall into this category and the men who don’t hold this opinion so offended. I must admit that their are some trifling women out there, however I doubt if Slim Thug really realized the mess he was spewing by saying that women should lower their standards and bow down to Black men. I agree that each person should contribute to a relationship but i really don’t understand why he believes that a Black woman should expect less, but give more. He must realize that a vast majority of white women make a compromise while with black men i.e. If he’s black he must have money, so it’s a tradeoff for her.
