Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleads guilty:
The deal calls for Kilpatrick to plead guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of justice by committing perjury, agreeing to serve four months in jail, pay up to $1 million in restitution, and serve five years’ probation. He also agreed not to run for office during that five-year span.
In a rushed monotone, Kilpatrick told the court: “I lied under oath in the case of Gary Brown and Harold Nelthrope versus the city of Detroit … I did so with the intent to mislead the court and jury, to impede and obstruct the disposition of justice.”
Groner asked Kilpatrick: “Are you satisfied with your lawyers in this case?” The mayor replied: “Uh, what do you mean?” After Groner explained, Kilpatrick said he was satisfied with the performance of his legal team. Groner: “The court’s satisfied and will accept the plea to two counts of obstruction of justice.”

Detroit doesn’t need anyone to sympathize with them. What they need is a real mayor and city council to get the job done..What do yo uexpect if your city is ran by thugs????? Michigan needs jobs…Not more manufacturing, too many blue-collar workers, energy or technology would be good. Eliminate all social programs except for the elderly. The first couple years, the mayor and staff would have to receive part-time pay or volunteer, to turn the City around, due to their part in the text scandal and the lawyer thing that led to Kwame, stealing funds…After Detroit, is turned around and bringing jobs back in, deficit repaired,then you start with the rebuilding..If done any other way, the City of Detroit, will fail…They have already undergone deficit(s) in every dept. All time record high of schools closing, increase in crime, decrease in jobs and value of real estate, it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out….Dearborn has even gone to hell…Every body remaining in Michigan, Detroit, especially, get mad and get your politicians to do the right thing, VOTE, and hold them accountable for their actions. And screen there resumes, before you elect the next doofus…

I have read all of the comments on this message board, the truth is this; many are commenting on what the media have said and some are speaking genuine because the Mayor represents the city in which they live. This situation is not about black or white, fidelity, lieing, etc. It is purely a wrongful discharge case, no matter what have been exposed in the midst of this case, 2 police officers lost their welfare based on an alleged wrongful discharge. Which still today has not been deemed wrongful but settled because of damaging text messages. From this, comes an attack on Kwame personally, Kwame is going to jail because of lieing about an affair not a wrongful discharge, People drive on scandals and often become blind of the facts and truth. They blackmailed this Mayor, simple put. If you ask ANYONE that has cheated, the question asked to the Mayor and Beatty in front of their mates, everyone will lie until proven. You can not hold a legal offical high above God’s law, and that is what I think most have done with Kwame. he is not a disgrace, he is a product of detroit, born, raised, attended Detroit Public Schools and earned his way in office. This man is not arrogant..you either admire or envy if you do not know him. Research your own facts and stop jumping on the bandwagon of the ignorant.

I have to just represent for the MI real quick, I am not a resident of Detroit but I do live 30 minutes outside the D, however it was still a sad day and even more so seeing his wife she held it together but it hurt you could see it. Every body is so quick to cast stones but folks talking ain’t exactly living in gl***** houses either. Yes, he could have handled things a lot different but it is what it is, people have been scrutinizing him before he even got into office. The media here wher I live has ran it in the ground so much so you don’t even want to watch the news.He’s not my mayor but it’s still hard to see a black man fall. The case was based on wrongful discharge…there are thousands of companies that wrongful discharge people everyday and some pay more than that. What is your problem…hate the smart? To wrongful discharge is wrong… His personal affairs are moral and affects his wife and kids. Kwame is smart and will take his punishment and live. I admire him for working with the governor and granting a large contract deal that gives the Governor investment deals in the city; the very next day the text messages was released in the free press. I am proud that Clint Eastwood and others are making movies right in the heart of the city. New construction homes for the city residents. It is very important that we move past this and think positive. The media has a huge responsibility in helping aid in this. Kwame has done wrong and he will have to deal but havent we all…. there are consequences and he will serve them not only in jail but looking at his three boys and Cralita for the rest of his life. He has brought over 80 million to the city of Detroit as well as bringing some excitement to the city with different events. Ken Crockral is to me not the best candidate and if we talk about arrogance he has more than Kwame wait and see. I agree with the arrogance you mentioned (Ken *****ral)… If you have ever watched the counsel meetings that DETROITER’S have access to see on tv, he has a certain air about him… Idk him personally and maybe I am wrong but I have noticed that even in his demeanor and how he speaks at the meetings that are aired…
Also, Monica Conyers said today that there should be a special election for the city because a seat such as Mayor of a city should be elected in. But, it’s in the rule book!! It’s just that this is the first time this has happened!!! Ken is doing what he is supposed to do, based on the rules. They just have beef. LOL! (remember the “Shrek” comment?) lol…

What about the American people who voted in Clinton years ago, We didn’t know that our former Mayor was going to get in office a sleep around with his staff and others, But we do know some of the good he did for the city YOU DON’T LIVE HERE U DON’T KNOW what he did for the city. So stop judging this man. The judge and God will do that. And there are alot of city’s that have Higher Murder Rates that has nothing to do with this situation.

sweety i lived in detroit and owned several homes there and yes i call his mother bringing over 50 bllion dollars to the the city in less than 10 years i dont know where you live but the city needed that money and thats why they will keep her in office and as far as Kwame the onl;y thing they have on him os lying not one person has ever said he hasnt done anything for the city, including doing a complete makeover to downtown( which was awful) and he has brought in several contracts that gaurantee the michigan citizens without emplyment wonderful new jobs. you have got to do more reading…. and again im no fan but i will crucify him for the right reasons and not the reasons of the media, im smart enought to draw my own conclusion without listening to fat ***** pudgy steve wilson

You know what kills me, everybody acts like he’s the first politician to lie about anything. First of all what he did behind close doors is between, his wife, god, and him. I’m a Detroiter and what Kilpatrick did behind closed doors that eventually involved Detroit taxpayers is our business and why is it that every time a black person gets in trouble we want to bring up what a white person did or something else that’s irrelevant like that should just let us off the hook or be exempt from criticism? Until we start holding our own accountable Detroit will remain one of the poorest and most illiterate cities in the country. I am tired of people acting like this was just about Kilpatrick cheating on his wife (adultery was the least of his crimes) – this case was about perjury, the wrongful dismissal of decent police officers who were just doing their jobs, spending millions of taxpayer money on the cover-up that could have been spent on other much needed things and the abuse of his office for his own personal gain and to enrich his family and friends. Judging by his farewell speech he still does not get it, blaming others and arrogant right up till the end. He is a cl*****ic narcissist! Maybe his time in jail will humble him a little. God bless and Good Riddance!!
