Sean Garrett

Last week we posted Sean Garrett’s new jawn “Summer Love” featuring UGK’s Bun B and Yo Gotti. Sean wasn’t pleased with the fact that we isolated this line… “Them Dark Skin B*tches be as Pretty as them Red Bones…” nor did he find anything wrong with his “CREATIVITY”.

Pop the Top for Sean Garrett’s Response

Sean Garrett Explains Lyrics:

In case you’re sayin… “Who the Hell is Sean Garrett???”… Here’s a little background:

Garrett is responsible for a series of chart-topping compositions, most notably Usher’s “Yeah!”, Ciara’s breakout track “Goodies” Teairra Mari’s debut single “Make Her Feel Good” Mario’s single “Break Up”, Nicki Minaj’s first single “Massive Attack”, Britney Spears’ “Toy Soldier” and Chris Brown’s debut single “Run It!”. He is in a production duo with Swizz Beatz, and together they produced several Beyoncé Knowles singles: “Ring the Alarm”, “Get Me Bodied”, “Upgrade U” and “Check on It”.

What are your thoughts… Did Sean Garrett’s explanation justify his choice of words??!?

  • that damn sh#$ disturber

well he’s made some good hits but why is it always the less attractive men that seem to be so hung up on the way women look??

  • that damn sh#$ disturber

  • chocolate

  • miss stl

He doesn’t have to justify himself. This website has said some things worse than this(look at ur old blogs). So Shut up!!!

  • June

Only stupid negros would dream up lyrics like this. They are a shame to their race…….What total idiots!!!!!!!!

  • ttpain

  • Rolling Eyes

I wonder how many SWIRL and Slim Thug dissing black wommen threads Bossh*ts will have on today to fill their anti-black woman quota?

  • okok

i understand him. but thats not the way 2 put it in a song. that rkelly song “chocolat girl” is the way 2 do it.

  • Wiggles

  • http://urnotpdiddyloser 5’10″ AKILLAH RICHARDS

yawns. a neeger is a neeger. period. lol

  • j

She sounds dumb/ignorant if he called all women the b word. which he clearly did. im dark skinned and i dont listen to rap/ new school r&b b/c light skin or dark it does me no justice. if u dont like his type of music dont listen to it. obviously he and many ppl i.e. jeezy or whoever dont c that word as derogatory. so with that said put up or shut up. she sounds hyper sensitive about race

  • GreeneyedBandit

IM A REDBONE! I AGREE WIT WHAT HE SAYIN CAUSE HE SO RIGHT! ALL I KNOW IS IM BLACK&IM PROUD!

  • cocoaskinvixen

I think that sean put it into words that the hood could relate to and understand. For those of us above the light skin vs. dark skin issue this song or at least that part was not for us. We already know that all shades of black are beautiful. This song or that part of the song was for the people that put light skin above all others. I think it was a subliminal and smooth and hood creative way for young kats to look at all women.

  • k

DONT LISTEN TO TODAYS HIP HOP LISTEN TO REAL HIP HOP OLD SCHOOL COMMON QTIP MOS DEF ETC>

  • cocoaskinvixen

By the way: I am 24 and darkskin and I pray that my son doesn’t grow to dislike the skin color he derived from and his mother is of. So ya’ll artist do what you gotta do to make sure that all shades of us black women and men embarace each other as we part ways in society. If a good woman like me can’t have you (black men) in real life than let us at least pretend its possible through music.

  • the black couple

While the term b*tch is offensive I think we’re focusing on the wrong part of his statement. It’s refreshing to see an entertainer giving darker skinned black women some love! We complain 4 days about Slim Thug and bash someone trying, however twisted, to end the stereotype that “dark butts” (thanks Yung Berg) are ugly? And for all the, “Dark people hate on light people” comments…that’s like saying black people hate on white people. Of couse the group whose slighted and looked down upon is going to villify the group seen as “better” and “smarter”…duh! No one feels sorry 4 you because we look on tv and are told by almost ALL media outlets that light skin is the right skin #imjustsaying. I’m not playing my violin, black folks need to love ALL the various, beautiful, sun-kissed hues we come in!

    http://theblackcouple.wordpress.com/

  • selena

i feel sean didnt say what he meant. I think that he means the black community glorifies red bone women. listen to all rap music and u will lose count on how many times rappers lke wayne and gucci say red bone, red bone all day. He’s jus sayin that the dark skin women look jus as good as the red bones ppl constantly rant and rave about. thats all. and im brown and i sooo get tired of dudes sayin red bone in every song.

im a bad azz brown gurl hands down and i have heard many dudes say im the darkest gurl they ever dated and im baffled cuz they steady choosing me over the next redbone. and if i cud figure out how to put up a pic of myself i would!

  • Kowwin

The woman talking in this interview is a complete idiot. She tries to make a point and then completely undermines her point in her next statement.

  • tg

When will we just stop using color to define a person. A cute person can be ANYONE in the world YOU THINK IS CUTE. What does skin tone have to do with it? If you base your relationships on skin tone, Nationalities, etc. you a FOOL. Life is too short to be this close minded in this day and age. When we stop the madness and having these stupid debates over skin tone – maybe everyone else will stop the madness, too.

  • Cherry

He basically said that darkskin girls aren’t usually pretty and not pretty as the redbones, but this time they are as pretty as the redbones.

Classic case of “you’re pretty to be dark skin.”

I wish we black folks will stop pretending to not see or know about colorism.

  • A Mess

Its 2010, and people are still on this lightskin/darkskin bull? No wonder we can’t get past racism. Black people do a great job at perpetuating it. Whites don’t even factor into this equation anymore.

  • southern twist

can people stop saying red and yellow! it sounds stupid i did not know people were that Hung up on color until coming here

  • Elena

well he’s made some good hits but why is it always the less attractive men that seem to be so hung up on the way women look??

    ^^
Exactly. This negro looks like a tortoise.

  • SLAVE MENTALITY

I am a red bone, but color has nothing to do with beauty IDIOT!! I have seen some of the darkess most beautiful sisters out there. He is so stupid, ignore him & don’t buy his cds or go to his concerts. This division among the Black race has to stop just like the constant murders. Can my people go anywhere and get along without shooting & killing each other? WHY??? STOP THE GENOCIDE BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE FOR US ALL!!

  • http://undressingher.com undressingHER

why are dark skinned women so darn sensitive? my yellow self gets ho*d everyday…women seem to be on a talk, dark, and handsome thing…but I don’t go crazy and have fits about it.

  • 2Sweet

The fact that this guy even needs to make that statement, and that there has to be a song to appease the brown and dark skinned women, says a whole lot! smh

  • Choc

The B word shouldn’t be used to describe a human female. However, I agree I think he was paying a compliment. We all know dark skinned women aren’t viewed as attractive by many black men. It is sad, but true. A pretty dark skinned woman is seen as an exception not the rule.

  • Marquis de Sade

He’s a smart business man. He recognizes that the “DARK BUTT” market has been untapped for years, and should be exploited for capital gain.

  • http://twitter.com/feline_finesse K-mia

there’s nothing disrespectful about what he said…its true!!!! and dont front, some people do find red girls more attractive…they speak their mind, so he can speak his!!

  • http://twitter.com/feline_finesse K-mia

the chick interviewing him is a hater and a dumb a.s.s. the fact that he has to “clarify the two” is not his fault….that’s america’s fault….dont blame him for f*cked up issues in american society…its not his fault that fools live by euro standards of beauty…and the word “b*tch” is a figure of speech…thats a whole nother issue which is irrelevant to the topic…stick to the issue…does she wanna attack every rapper who says the word “b*tch??” she’s an idiot!

  • CARAMEL

WHAT?! THATS A COMPLIMENT. HE’S SAYING DARK SKIN GIRLS ARE PPRETTY LIKE RED BONES.

    OR AM I MISSIN SUMN?

  • BBBEE25

Thank you Sean…I am brown skin but dark skin men go crazy because I’m not dark skinned. They usually feel dark-skin females are ugly. So him being dark-skinned and showing all females dark and light love…is all good with me. I think that he was just saying this because if you listen to the music lately everything in hiphop/rnb is light-skin this or redbone that for example….lil’ wayne….i want a long-haired thick redbone open up her legs to fillet mignon….he’s just one of the many examples.

  • 2Sweet

Just a thought. Why is it that when skin color comes up within the BLACK community we always say “well we’re all black to white people anyway.” Why are we constantly bringing white people into chyt. Some of you people act like they’re all-superior beings! Who cares about how they see us. We’ve known for hundreds of years how they feel. It should be about how we see each other. And this color ish is VERY prevalent in our community, let’s just be real here. We come in a variety of shades and tones, and people are going to like what they like! You can’t do anything to change it, so why should anybody care? Nobody is everybody’s type.

  • http://www.justkeepinitreal2010.blogspot.com amanda

i agree with his statement. dark skinned women are just as beautiful as light skinned.WTH is wrong with his statement, b cause he said b!tch, so what! get over and read between the lines. what he said is some real shit.

  • myHusbandMonitorsMyInternetActivity

Shame on you idiots for condoning his use of the word B.I.T.C.H. Where are your brains?? Seriously

  • Erica

omg i cant believe ppl are mad because he said the b-word. grow the fug up! we are all adults and he can use any language he wants. everyone in the black community knows that bytch is slang for female, “niccas and bytches”. no one gets mad when lil kim, trina, or nicki minaj call themselves bad bytches or say shout outs to all my bad bytches. b0ss!p u knew what he meant, u just needed a story fuggin lames.

  • Jessica

Well I’m pretty sure if the lyrics were the other way around this wouldnt even be a story.

  • myHusbandMonitorsMyInternetActivity

This generation of Black youth is really brain dead and lost. You dont even realize that the use of the word b.i.t.c.h is truly and absolutely misogynistic. Do you realize that there is no word equivalent for a man first. Second .. a b.i.t.c.h. is a menstruating female dog in heat. So you lost women are ok with being compared to a MENSTRUATING ANIMAL READY TO BE MOUNTED AND MATED BY A STRAY ROVING DOG??… YOU ARE MINDLESS FOOLS!

  • hummm

Getting into verbal altercations on a gossip website is not going to change the way the world thinks. Especially since a small majority of the world goes on this site. If you really want to make a difference go talk to the kids in school or in your neighborhoods. Never mind talking crap behind a computer.

  • P2010

He was saying dark skinned girls are just beautiful. Which they are. Just a bad choice of words. Anyway, when are we going to get over this color divide?

  • Tlov224

I agree with him I don’t get what the issue is. I think you guy’s took it too far.

  • ecouttadaqc

Man, this interview (if that’s what you wanna call it, sounded more like a convo btwn homies) was sooooo tedious! she was horrible and he was annoying! *sheesh*

  • nyalisalwaysnice

How can he possibly be so stupid? I feel so bad for this guy. Saying he respects women but then calling them b*tches. I can’t believe how stupid this man is, I mean seriously, does he feel think he’s complimenting anyone? And anyways, who needs a compliment from this loser..

  • http://mrszamir08@gmail.com Jco

the dark skinned ones are ALWAYS prettier than the light skinned ones!!!! Everybody wants to be black so bad!!

  • STUPIDGIRLLOL

LIGHTSKINNED B IT CHES WILL NEVER BE WHITE!!!! WHITE WOMEN ARE THE PREFERRED WOMAN!!!! NOT BLACK OR LIGHT…

  • NYSDIVA

Why are ppl complaining about what Sean Garrett said??? Nobody said issh when Lil Wayne said “I WANT A LONG HAIR THICK RED BONE….” in one of his songs.

  • STUPIDGIRLLOL

And it’s funny that everything is about dark and light but must preferred men are always dark-skinned & how do you make a dark-skinned man!!!

  • SexyBlack81

The song means there is no difference in the beauty of dark skin woman and a light skin woman. Beauty is beauty. Meaning they are equal. Black people in general are so messed up in the head when it comes to the color line. In a white mans eye we are all black. Not light skinned or dark. The song is made to be Positive not critiqued down to fact the word b!tch is used. A black man can never do right in peoples eyes. The most positive thing gets turned into something negative.

  • t

Female rappers need to start referring to men as male Ho’s when they rap. Then maybe these male rappers who always using the word b—- in their songs would get the picture.

  • http://www.youtube.com/foreverlaquetta DarknLovely

he meant it as a compliment..take it or leave..I personally will take it ..seeing we dont get much love from rappers anyway.
