Will.I.Am Says, “I Am The Most Hip-Hop Ni**a Out Of All These Hip-Hop Ni**as!”

Will.I.Am Is the Hip-Hoppiest

Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas must be smoking that Boom Boom Pow. He told VIBE magazine that he is “probably the most hip-hop ni**a out of all these hip-hop ni**as!” Pop it to see him say some more ill isht.

Will.I.Am is having a Kanye moment. In a recent interview with VIBE, he didn’t just toot his own horn, he laid on that b*tch with both hands. Tooooooot! Toooooot!

Vibe asked Will if The Black Eyed Peas take hits for not being “real” hip hop and Will went in.

Will.i.am: I am hip-hop! If there’s anyone that’s the personification of hip-hop, I’m probably the most hip-hop ni**a out of all these hip-hop ni**as. But hip-hop editorial and blogs and even some of the hip-hop fans don’t see it that way, which is cool. I’m going to win. I’m going to win and win bigger than all these ni**as are winning. And they probably don’t see that. I’m winning regardless of what hip-hop thinks of what I am. I won’t shrivel up in a little ball and not continue to rock, rock planet rock, don’t stop just because a few people think the [Black Eyed Peas] is just a pop act.

I [always] knew I was going to move more into dance and club. That’s the reason I produced Nas’ “Hip Hop Is Dead.” People forgot that hip-hop was a bunch of things back in the days. Hip-hop was the Jungle Brothers’ “I’ll House You.” When someone is denying what they are, then that’s when things start to spiral down. Hip-hop is limiting itself and that also goes for editorially. Magazines and websites are the gatekeepers of what people think hip-hop is, but they actually end up limiting what hip-hop can be.

I can do a Talib Kweli track [“Hot Thing”] and Estelle’s “American Boy,” and co-write “Ordinary People” with John Legend and I’m still hip-hop. If Nas calls me for another track, I can do that. But at the same time, if Usher calls me I can do [an “OMG”] as well. Songs like “OMG” are international hits, not just hits on American urban radio. I’m talking about the f*cking world! And those kind of accomplishments don’t get you the cover of VIBE. I don’t need anyone to validate me. I am hip-hop.

He made some interesting points. Does the content always have to be gangstalicious to be considered hip-hop? Is Will.I.Am or Will.I.Am. not the hip-hoppiest of the bunch?

its funny how people give themselves titles, i always thought those are given to you, you dont claim them

  • Who

Will can buy and sell you small bugs. You homo’s don’t see the bigger picture. He is international and you dummies are local as hell. He stays making giant moves why you all stay on house arrest. So wise up stupid and get your own and stop tearing down another Black man doing his thing. Who cares if he is pop. All of hip hop today blows big ones anyhow.

check out symphony of science-glorious dawn by carl sagan, on yootoob, lemme know what you think of that

  • that damn sh#$ disturber

“I’ll House You.” i loved that song!! ^^ maybe we shouldn’t use that term in “mixed” company because it makes yt think it’s ok to use it but this is how i feel when it comes to the word n!@@a. ex: you have a bad ass, ugly, little brat and you hate to admit it but you know it’s true. it’s one thing for you to refer to your kid as a bad a$$ little brat but you would be pi$$ed if someone else said it right. even if you knew they were telling the truth. same difference. to me there is a difference between blk folk and n!@@as. hell sometimes certain situations call for regular blk folk to act like n!@@as lolol…

Will.I.Am speaks the truth. He does what every he wants and stunts on these h@#$. You favourite rapper who keeps its “real” is struggling to keep to make ends meet. Will.i.Am was discovered by Eazy E so you know he can spit for real. The Magazines he talks about are even struggling, vibes, the sources etc. Only the multigenre ones like complex are doing it big. Will.I.Am ftw

  • frank Dank

Why are many Black folks so small minded? Saying he is weird, etc.
Do you all have to be thugs? Why is when a Black person tries to step out of the small box that this world tries to place us in you idiots give your feathers in ruffled? You complain when White people stereotype us but you do the same damn thing yourselves. Open your minds and stop acting like sheep. There is no one type of way for Black people to act. Have you ever heard of Jimi Hendrix? Sly stone? Lenny Kravitz?

  • Injera70

Well I think he is the man Break dances and makes sick beats and the lot. Peep his Sergio Mendez cd and tell me he not hip hop.

  • Tall Gyal

I agree with Will about hip hop. I think it is becoming boxed in. It used to encompass so much more different styles back in the day. I don’t know about him being more hip hop than anyone else though. People usually put down what they don’t understand or what they can’t label. You can’t really put a label on Will, and that’s a good thing…keeps him working and paid.

  • L_DUB

You can’t branch out into other genres and make garbage then claim to be the actual “GENRE” itself that you aren’t actually marketing to! Hip Hop is 2pac, Dr.Dre, B.I.G, Big L, Mobb Deep, even Will Smith if you want. This clown deosn’t make music like these artists, he even said it…..dance and club…..that aint hip hop

  • Sha

  • Get Real

I get him. I think he’s amazingly talented.

Hip hop isn’t what it used to be. Most of you would agree.

But unfortunately, some of y’all think the likes of Drake and Young Money is what hip hop is all about… and you’re dead wrong.

  • B3 Fearless

I disagree with him saying he is hip hop.

But his other points are valid.

In Will’s work you can see him trying to take hip hop to another level in his own way.

Will is actually creative unlike so many artists out here.

The fact that you can’t cl-a-s-sify it is a good thing! And why so many artists want to work with him including MJ b4 he pa-s-sed.

Too many artists out here sound the SAME.

And let’s be clear Will was talking about hip hop NOT rap.

I would take those who criticize Will’s work with a grain of salt cuz they probably are fans of wack rappers like Gucci Mane & Wacka.

  • ab

well there is a chance we hill be . . . not!! he may come up with a good hip hop song but if he is talking about rap, never ever we he surpass jay and wayne, biggy, and pac!! rap is difffer from hip hop so crown him the king of hoppin on cocks, he really must want to jump up on it!!

  • drenk

    @ somali

yeah im no fan of atheism either, ive found some to be just as fanatical and religious zealots, i thought you might like the song, and after hearing that, that was probably the first time i was really interested in science, cuz ya know in highschool i used science class to do other homework

  • Africa’s Finest (Cairo to Cape town)

CORNY is what comes to mind when thinking of the Blacked Eyed Peas.

  • Doggbone

Hip hop is dead! Will.I.Am makes pop music.
Hip hop was the voice of the streets not corporations!

  • HONEYBEE

hip hop is bigger then the hood now and there is money to be made here and abroad!

    Get dat money Will!

  • victim of close-minded urban editorials

@B3 Fearless – every single point you mentioned were all 100% accurate. You hit the nail on the head especially w/the last point about the naysayers on the quality of Will’s work are probably Gucci and Wacka fans. lol @ times I get caught up into Gucci and Wacka tracks and before reading Will’s article I too was doubting the headliner claim that he’s hip-hop but after reading this article I recognized that Will has a point. Will makes tracks which are memorable (carrying longevity) that are played Worldwide – Wacka & Gucci make tracks that are domestically “HOT” and trendy for the moment but give it 10 years and you’ll be shaking your head, questioning why you were listening to that stuff.

  • Menominee_Nation

Beyond The Front was a good A## record and Kim Hill used to be their vocalist before ol sea donkey came swimmin up and replaced her. i really liked them then. BE FREE is a great party joint complete with a sample from RIDE THE WHITE HORSE!

    ….dankness!

  • ??

People say he’s pop, not Hip-Hop but don’t realize he produces beats for many Hip-Hop Artists. Something to think about.

  • Bdot

    He’s not hip-hop, he’s flip-flop. And he’s extremely insecure and soundin’ like a nga with self-esteem issues.

Man up, Will. Be proud that you’re a pop star, and part of one of the worst hip-hop sellouts in history, brotha.

How do you go from “Clap Your Hands” and “Fallin Up” to “Boom Boom Pow”????

    Sellout ngz

  • Candid Canuck

if he’s talking about his old BEP stuff ( bridging the Gap et al. ) but NOW! he def smokin that BOOM BOOM POW! indeed.

Will U Not, pleeze sit ur azz down

  • Candid Canuck

besides, how is hip hop with a pop singer in the group singin let’s get it started and ish…

BTW Peeazy haircuts are not the biz WIll U Not! Bwaaahh LMAO

  • king akbar

I don’t listen to black eye peas….but i think he’s right with this idea of opening up. I think overall we trying to put a stamp on something to try to keep it ours but in reality we are just limiting what can be ours. we want to keep it in the hoods or for the blacks but we just losing in the long run. artist aren’t even selling records no more. the last album they put out is still selling 10 or 20 thousands and stay on the top 50 and it’s been out for a few months name a hip hop (so called) artist that’s doing that. our best aren’t even going gold right now. we need to open up. I’m not saying he’s the most hip hop but his vision is right. we are so creative why are we just limiting ourselves.

  • auntdoggandauntfail

sweetheart, one your song is featured on Oprah you are no longer Hip Hop, I have never really been in to Black Eyes Peas as Hip Hop, more pop music to me.

  • Tommie

Plus the original members of BEP were all BBoys back in the day. Will and them other two dudes can break dance and all that shit. This dude is hip hop. Straight up. And No i’m not a fan I just gotta show respect when its due.

  • Candid Canuck

    LMAO @ Bdot

  • Tommie

and further more why arent we saying Timberland isn’t hip hop? this dude aint did a hip hop record in years either. He’s producing for Justin, One Nation and what ever that white girls name is..This dude said he’s off hip hop so i guess he aint hip hop no more either right?

  • Candid Canuck

    @ Tommie

    i said that b4. BEP during the mid-late 90′s
they were hip hop, but like Bdot said they’re “flip flop” lol na….

  • Candid Canuck

    @ tommie

Timbo was hip hop too back in the ” jiggy” days… but he got bit by the hollyweird bug too and is doing whack azz songs with katy perry na..lol

  • ReALiSt aKa ReALeSt (BoSSiP iS aDdiCTiVe! I LoVe My FrEnEMiEs BLoGgErS!!!)

    @B3 fearless
If you ain’t from NY, don’t comment about hip-hop..

What’s the difference between hip-hop and rap??

Hip-hop is a culture, and Rap/Emceeing is an element of hip-hop..The four elements of Hip-Hop are b-boying, graffiti, dj-ing, and lastly, emceeing or rapping.

Stop throwing these words around if you don’t really know the history.. I grew up around it when it was in it’s purest form, and hip-hop was my first love..

    Will-i-am is pop not hip-hop!!!

  • kk

Why so many people are interested in an i-nterracial relations-hip. black woman want to date white man and black guys want to have relationship with white women. There are many sites focusing on this kind of relationships such as ********* (MatchSugar)* .*{C00M}********* recommend it here, check it out lolo `Do not remove since Im serious

  • othello

For those that know hip hop Will is continuing that African Bam, Soul Sonic, dare I say early GMF. Yes he’s doing it with a pop twist but the foundation is obvious. He can say he is heavily influenced by Hip Hop more so than any other pop group. But more Hip Hop? Not when you have MF Doom, Sean Price, and Jay Elect floating around.

    Yeah but ummm. . .No.

  • Lexi

He sold out like the rest of his crew. Remember KIM HILL? The black chick the was with ya’ll before you all made it big? She refused to dress all skanky and sing degrading songs in order to sell records. The Guys decided to make booty music to make money. They picked up Esthero. She reufused to go along with it too. That’s when the ex-meth addict Fergie joined. She was willing to shake it for them. BEP you all sold out.

Kim Hill and Esthero kept it real. Check out “The Real Hip Hop” by Kim Hill.

  • LEE MARVIN

you want to know why will i “Ham” aint hip hop?…cuz real hip hop aint for corny eurotrash krakkas or cheesy pop tunes…hip hop rocks the party unapologetically, no nods to the pop world….real hip hop gets crossed over to, it doesnt try to cross over…..kick rocks half pint and take that freeze dried half a h.oe fergie with you

  • Allie

I love his music but he needs to calm himself down, people previously mentioned that he’s not hip-hop but pop and I would have to agree.

  • Try Again..

He did make some good points and I agree with WHO, but he still doesn’t deserve that title!

Oh and most of this “Hip-Hop” nowadays is pop anyway..

  • marigurl

I get what he’s saying. His catelog of music I what is considered real hip hop from back when the movement started. Although hip hop has evolved he’s continuing to bring the old school style of music. Who besides kanye is doing that?

  • Ciana

well black eye peas coulda made one hip hop song if the imma bee beat never changed at the end of the song I HATE THAT PART! but yeah they are pop music he needs to get over it RandB/HipHop radio station aint giving black eye peas the time of day.THATS WHY I B MAD WHEN THEY ARE NOMINATED FOR RandB/Hiphop awards bcuz clearly they are pop

  • sadie

He makes Pop songs now, bottomline. Yea he may make a hip hop song now and then, but he’s Pop. Ever sense the Black Eyed Peas added Fergie I lost respect for him and them.

  • BEREAL

I hope he told this to a white mag that garbage- don’t confuse our young BLACK youth!

when her REPS HIP HOP HIMSELF on the norm THEN HOLLA AT THE BLACK COMMUNITY!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazed

Hip Hop can be all styles but when you go from the first Blackeyed peas songs to songs like humps you’ve gone pop, sold out, etc. Will I Am is very talented but when they added Fergie to the lineup their sales went up and musical creativity and substance went down.

  • http://bossip GAT TURNER BUUUUDDDAATTT!!!!
