The majority of black people are not in a position to take care of their offspring by themselves. The majority of any people, regardless of race, are not in a position to take care of their offspring by themselves. The only way to get away with not being married and still having babies is to a) be independently wealthy, or b) have a huge extended family and support network.

Guess what? most blacks are not a), and b) has been destroyed a long time ago.

Welfare and public assistance is not taking care of yourself or your child (children). Living off a woman who has to depend on either, is not taking care of your children.

An extended family does not mean ‘mama, grandmama, sister, and auntie are all on some form of public assistance too’, either.

JERUSALEM – A performer with the famed Alvin Ailey dance troupe on Tuesday said he was twice forced to perform steps for Israeli airport security officers to prove his identity before he was permitted to enter the country.

Abdur-Rahim Jackson, an eight-year veteran of the dance ensemble, said he was singled out by Israel’s renowned airport security because he has a Muslim name. He called the experience embarrassing and said at one point, one of the officers even suggested he change his name.

“To be greeted like this because of my name, it took me back a little bit,” said Jackson, who is black.

Israel is the first stop on a six-nation tour celebrating the New York-based dance company’s 50th anniversary. Earlier this year, Congress passed a resolution calling the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater a “vital American cultural ambassador to the world.”

Jackson said he was pulled aside from other members of the troupe when they arrived at Israel’s international airport on Sunday night. He said he was taken to a holding room, where he was asked about the origins of his name. When he explained he was part of the dance group, he was asked to perform.

“I stood up. I asked what type of dance?” he explained. “He said, “Just do anything.’ I just moved around.”

Minutes later, he said a female officer put him through a similar interrogation and asked him to dance again.

“The only time I’m really expected to dance is when I’m performing,” he said.

Jackson said he received his name because his father was a convert to Islam. Jackson said he was not raised a Muslim, does not consider himself religious and is engaged to a Jewish woman in the troupe who has relatives in Israel.

Jackson said he did not plan to press the matter further, saying the numerous apologies he has received from American dignitaries and his Israeli hosts is “enough for me.” The Israel Ports Authority said it had no comment because it did not receive a formal complaint.

The incident was reported in Israel’s largest newspaper and on an Israeli television news and interview program. “The security guards should be sent home or (the airport) will become a mental asylum,” said Motti Kirshenbaum, a veteran commentator and host of the Channel 10 TV program.

Israel is constantly on the alert for attack because of the Israel-Palestinian conflict and extremist Islamic rejection of the Jewish state’s existence. Security is strict at all entry points and inside the country.

Israel is famous for the effectiveness of its airport security. But a key element in its security checks is ethnic profiling. The practice has been criticized by Israeli human rights campaigners as racist because it singles out Arabs for tougher treatment.

Such profiling is illegal in the United States, but Jackson said that the only place he has had the similarly humiliating experience of being forced to dance in the past was at a U.S. airport when he returned from a vacation in the Dominican Republic. He did not say when or where that took place.

Jackson said that since the Israeli airport incident, the reception in Israel has been “amazing.”

“We’re only here to bring positive light to our lives and the people here,” he said, calling the group’s multicultural appeal “an amazing bind you can’t touch, you can only experience.”

Research on new forms of male contraception, unfortunately, has yet to produce any methods besides condoms and vasectomy that are approved and on the market.

The methods you mention in your question — medical-grade silicone rubber (MSR), medical-grade polyurethane (MPU), and the Shug — are all still experimental methods that focus on blocking sperm from leaving the penis, similar to vasectomy. While they don’t require surgery to insert, MSR and MPU do involve injecting ‘plugs’ of one type or another into the vas deferens, and they may involve surgery to remove the plugs when a man wants to be fertile again. At the present time, only men participating in clinical trials have access to these and other new methods. Complications have been infrequent and minor, although it seems that many men may take up to 1 or 2 years after removal before regaining full fertility.

The Shug differs from MSR and MPU since it is inserted in solid form made of medical-grade silicone rubber. The plug is placed into the vas deferens without any incisions, becoming effective within 2 to 3 months. The Shug may work by rupturing the vas deferens, causing scar tissue to form, similar to MSR and MPU. The plug can be removed without surgery, but there is little data on the return of fertility. At this time, researchers expect a similar timeframe to that for MSR and MPU.

Another product currently in clinical trials, is Reversible Inhibition of Sperm Under Guidance (RISUG). A polymer is injected into the vas deferens and solidifies on the tube wall within 72 hours. Instead of blocking sperm, the RISUG actually ruptures the cell membranes of sperm passing by, leaving them unable to fertilize an egg. It appears that a single injection can provide up to ten years of contraceptive use. The compound is removed by flushing the vas deferens with solvent, and fertility should be restored. There seem to be few complications and side effects yet observed.

Some of the more widely researched, and possibly more widely supported, methods include hormonal contraception for men, which could be taken as pills, through a skin patch, or through injections. These methods are in clinical trials in many countries and may be on the market in Europe in the next few years. Check out Birth control for men? for more information. Remember, of all the existing and new methods for men, only condoms will provide protection against sexually transmitted infections.

More men and women are expressing interest in male-directed contraceptives; hopefully there will be new methods on the market in the next few years. We’ll be on the lookout!
