Again – according to every interracial dating/marriage STAT released just weeks ago the white woman who married outside of her race in 2008 went for the Latino man 51% of the time. A study by the Pew Research Center titled, “Marrying Out: One-in-Seven New U.S. Marriages is Interracial or Interethnic,” received widespread national attention. And many saw it as yet another confirmation that Black females are in a no-win predicament when it comes to marriage, especially marriage to another African-American.
The Pew study found that a record 14.6 percent of all new marriages in the United States in 2008 were between persons of different racial or ethnic backgrounds, six times the intermarriage rate in 1960 and more than double the rate in 1980.
Here’s the part of the report that most news outlets omitted: “Of the four groups tested in the survey, openness to a family member’s marriage to an African-American ranked lowest.”
Looked at another way, even as the country has grown considerably more open-minded about interracial marriages over the last half-century, race still matters.
Of the four groups studied – Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians — Whites are least likely to marry outside of their race, which is not surprising given the advantages of White privilege in the United States.
“Among the estimated 362,000 African-Americans who were newlyweds in 2008, nearly one-in-six (15.5 percent) married someone who was not black,” the report stated. “The share of out-marriage among men was more than twice the share among women. Some 22 percent of Black male newlyweds in 2008 married someone of a different race or ethnicity, compared with 8.9 percent of Black female newlyweds that same year.”
Among African-American newlyweds, 58 percent married a White person, 23 percent married a Hispanic, 7 percent married an Asian and 13 percent married someone of a mixed race, a Native American, or someone from another race.
Despite the huge gender gap among African-Americans, the intergroup marriage pattern between men and women was the same. Nearly 60 percent in each gender married a Caucasian. Nearly a fourth of Black women (24 percent) and 22 percent of African-American men married a Hispanic. Only 7 percent of Black men and 6 percent of African-American women married an Asian.
The gap between the number of African-American men and Black women marrying non-Blacks is growing. An estimated 1.3 percent of Black males and 0.9 percent of African-American females married outside their race in 1960. By 2008, however, 22 percent of Black males married a non-Black and 8.9 percent of African-American women.
The growing tendency of Black men to marry outside their race, coupled with the overall decline in marriage rates among all groups, is expected to compound the problem of African-American females finding a desired marriage partner.
“In 2007, just 33 percent of Black women ages 30-44 were married, down from 62 percent of the comparable age group in 1970,” the report found. “Among Black men in this age range, just 44 percent were married in 2002, down from 74 percent in 1970.”
The rate for young Whites was also down, but not as much as the rate for African-Americans. In 2007, 67 percent of White women and 63 percent of White men in the 30-44 age group were married.
Of Whites marrying outside their race in 2008, nearly half – 49 percent – married a Hispanic, 18 percent married an Asian, 14 percent married an African-American and the remainder married someone from another group.
“Among whites who out-married in 2008, there were different patterns by gender in the race of their spouses,” the report observed. “More than a quarter of white men (27 percent) married an Asian woman, and about 7 percent married a black woman. In contrast, 20 percent of white women married a black man, while just 9 percent married an Asian man.”
A slightly higher proportion of White women (51 percent) married a Hispanic than White men (46 percent), the study found.
The 22 percent figure for African-American males outside their race was comparable to the figures for Asian males. Almost a fifth – 19.5 percent – of Asian males took on non-Asian brides in 2008. But Asian women were four times more likely than Black women to marry outside their race, with 39.5 percent of them married to someone of a different race or ethnicity.
Among the out-marriage Asian newlyweds, 75 percent married a White person, 12 percent married a Hispanic and only 7 percent married an African-American.
The pattern was similar among Hispanics marrying outside their ethnic group. The study reports that 81 percent of Hispanic newlyweds married a White person in 2008. Only 9 percent married an African-American and 5 percent married an Asian.

You have a number of inaccuracies and misstatements. Not going through all of them. Example, you said 2008 Black man/non black women marriages only made up 22%, correct. However, I had to correct what that really means when those marriages have TRIPLED in the last 20 years. Anyone with a brain can see that percentages is going to increase in the next 20 years. How much? Who knows, My guess is that it’s going to be around 40%. That’s a big number and will have major implications.

I could care less about a white woman’s choice. Again, YOU and your racially exclusive group are the one’s who are concerned about the choices of black men. No one else.

Stats are used to connect dots and never as the entire story. Marriages as a whole are down in America, no one is marrying anyone anymore. Black men as a whole are leaving trails of baby mommas and are not marriage material at this moment.

The few that are, are not doing enough to show that they are marriage material. The real cause of low black male eligibility is that the black community is in turmoil. 50% of the black male race are in prison, add up the 20% of black men who are homosexuals and you have a very low pool of eligible and working black men.

With all that said, black men are still seen as the most masculine men in society and as such, will always do better than their station in life. Don’t forget that black men are also seen very favorably in popular culture, so black men actually do very well for their station in life. They also do better than Asian and Indian American males who are actually the most well off and educated race in America. Sadly, many black men just cant see how gifted they are. The other races mimic black men like they are going out of style and black men could make a lot of money off of their image rather than live in poverty.

I think is getting boring i done some digging the other day and realized past an present a lot of the black or mixed ladies in hollywood have wht husbands, boyfriends, etc, who are actors, owners of companies or otherwise. Some that shocked me dreads, or not whatever. Then it made me think who dates the black hollywood men or are they the players left open for the sharks to abuse them ie hoochie women..(why are both so far (or kept) apart in hollywood) i find it ironic how the men are often put up as swirler when dating outside but the women are kept hush, i guess they are married but still, dont get me wrong i think they are a lot of blk men who have black wives there also. White male/Asian female relationships are the largest interracial coupling in America. An African-American marrying a Black Hispanic is considered an interracial marriage. Obviously that’s not really an interracial marriage. When involving Hispanics, the numbers are almost impossible to get accurate, because we don’t know the exact race of the people that we are speaking of.

Despite what you want to believe, Asian men are the least married men in America. The article that you posted also pointed this out. These stats also leave out cohabitation. This would also alter the numbers in that article if included. There is a growing number of people that live together and are not married whether it’s in or outside of someone’s race.

The STATS that you used aren’t worth anything. Some studies show that about half(48%) of Hispanics list themselves as “white”. Of course, when these people marry other Hispanics who don’t do this, it will show up as an interracial marriage even though it’s not. That’s another reason why those numbers are higher than they actually should be. White male/Asian female is the largest interracial coupling in America followed by Black male/White female. It has nothing to do with “boosting my numbers”, because I don’t really think about white chicks personally. I’m just pointing out the flaws in your dumb argument that you’re trying to make.

They did not separate anything when it comes to Black Hispanic and Hispanic. Most Black Hispanics will list themselves as “Other” and a few list themselves as “Black” or “White” in the Hispanic category. So it’s hard to tell which is which.

As I said earlier, when an African-American marries an Afro-Latino it is viewed as an interracial marriage in this country according to STATS. That alone shows that they don’t separate Black Hispanics from other Hispanics in these STATS.

Hispanic men all want white women because they think it is a status symbol and they don’t want a Hispanic wife. Hispanic men chase after white women more than any other men in this country. if their statistics are high for marrying white, that’s why. On the topic of the thread, although Sean Penn is widely praised for his acting feats, his romantic life has left a considerable bit to be desired. In the past, he has been accused of domestic violence (during his marriage to Madonna), and if I recall correctly, infidelity was rumored to be one of the factors in his divorce from Robin Wright Penn. I don’t know if I would refer to Sean as a great catch.

Spanish people are not Hispanic and they will feel insulted if you call them that. That will tell you in a heartbeat that they are European Spaniards and they are right. The Hispanics, like the PuertoRicans and such are not Spanish they only speak Spanish and the Spanish spoken here isn’t even the same as the language spoken in Spain. I have to tell you that Hispanics in America are very insecure and filled with self hate but they try to hide it. They love white people more than they love themselves.

Now if your going to swirl, Sean Penn is not a bad choice!

He may not be the best looking, but he is Rich, charitable (has a big heart), and got mad swagger!

I know that, but I wasn’t talking about everyday life. These stats place Black Hispanics with Hispanics and most Black Hispanics check the “other” box when filling out these forms and half of the Hispanics(including some Black Hispanics) check “white”. That’s why it’s hard to tell which is which on paper.

Black Hispanic is one of the subgroups in the Hispanic category on the U.S. Census, so they’re still being placed under Hispanic on that.

No, you won’t, and this expands beyond the drug arena. There have been years of controversy over the depiction of black women as welfare mothers, yet the highest number of welfare beneficiaries are white. Unfortunately, some of us have internalized these stereotypes without questioning the actual data/research behind them.

I concur 100%. In order to maintain this perceived position of superiority, it must be a-s-s-e-r-t-e-d that other races are inferior.

Wow! I am married to a black woman and we have beautiful children Are marriage is 8 years strong! It gets better and better. I am handsome clean cut dude. She is a beautiful, curvy woman. She is like Kelly Rolands complexion. I went to a school of white girls and I dated some but they never really attracted me. When I met my wife she was transferred to my college. I knew I had an attraction to black women, just like my cousin loves reheads. We respect one another, we learn a lot from each other and the differences of being white and black. I support her and she does the same. If anyone were to call her out her name I would put them right to sleep. Truth be told, she would do the same. We never had any issues with IR dating or marriage. People looked at us like “oh, nothing new” Do people talk behind our back? Probably but we don’t know. Our life is happy. I strongly urge people to date outside of their race, open up their horizon. If not. That’s cool But don’t disrespect those that do. Black women: you are beautiful. Don’t let no one tell you that another race of men could never find you attractive. Its not true. My wife knows better and so should you. I know a lot of professional black men too. If u do date interacially don’t disrespect the men or women of your own race. That is never a good thing. Remember the powers that be prefers we hate each other, but instead we should love!
