WTH is going on in the world today?! This woman just lost her mom of the year nomination with her actions!
A 21-year-old Reisterstown woman threw her newborn baby out of a window last week, a Baltimore County police spokesman said.
Rebecca Himes of the 100 block of Virginia Ave. gave birth to a baby in the bathroom of her home Thursday, placed the baby into a plastic bag and threw the bag out the window into some bushes, said Lt. Robert McCullough.
A family member heard a noise and found the baby outside, McCullough said. The girl’s mother and the other family member then called the police, he said. The officers noted that the distance between the window from which the baby is thought to have been thrown and the hedge that broke her fall was between 10 and 12 feet. “The screen to the bathroom window was also pushed out of the window and was lying against the rear of the house,” the report says. It adds that there was blood all over the bathroom, including in the shower.
The doctor who treated the mother and child said the young woman did not have pre-natal care, which “put not only the baby’s life at risk but her own life at risk.” During the unsupervised birth, which occurred in a non-sterile environment, any number of problems could have arisen, the doctor said, not least that Himes “could have bled to death.”
The mother was released and was not arrested and has not been charged for this incident as of yet. The case remains under investigation and the baby is fine and suffered no injuries has been placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services.
Maryland has a Safe Haven law, which allows mothers to drop off babies to hospitals or police stations with no questions asked within 10 days of birth. It seems this mother took that law out of context and thought dropping a baby out of the window was the same thing! SMH!
