I see both sides. Bashir was doing his job by making an interesting interview. Diddy answered him honestly. I agree that Bashir wouldn’t have asked Steve Jobs or Bill Gates that same question. But at the same time, it’s unlikely that Jobs or Gates would have made such a purchase for their 16 yr old. And Diddy doesn’t have ends as long as either one of them.

But back to the point. Bashir was honing in on the concept that black moguls tend to spend their money on being seen. He was trying to highlight frivolous spendings of black people in Diddy’s position. Diddy fell into the trap. He was 100% right thathe can spend his money as he pleases.
