maia campbell is obviously mentally ill. i work with the mentally ill and i can see it in her. she probably is bipolar. part of the problem is that black people can accept drug abusers quicker than they can the mentally ill. so many of clients are ashamed for their friends to know that they take meds but no one cares if people know they hit the pipe. it is very hard to get mentally ill people off drugs because they believe it is better for them than their meds when as you can probably see it just makes the symptoms worse. i feel sorry for maia but she was born with this problem and there is no celebrity that can help her to get better. im sure some of them have attempted to reach out to her. my anger is towards those that are ignorant enough to exploit her pain. no one deserves this especially those that have very little control of their actions.

While home dude on the subway was funny this is sad…there is nothing remotely funny about someone so sick they have lost all sense and control…she is in my prayers.
I would rather be paralyzed then have a mental disorder. There is nothing worse than your mind losing all sense of reality.

Unfortunately she has the toxic mixture of being mentally ill as well as being a substance abuser (rocks). You can only help someone who is willing to be helped. She can’t be committed. She can’t be forced to go to rehab by anyone accept the judicial system. Very sad, but very common.

All of you saying that people should reach out and help her, I am sure her famuily has tried this and you can only help someone that is willing to help themselves. If you read her mothers book called 24 hour hold which was based loosely off of her child, you would see that she had tried everything under the sun to help her daughter before she died, and she couldn’t do it. Also if you are going to feel sorry for her you may as well feel sorry for the thousands of other crack heads and mentally ill people in our community.

I disagree with the fact that she shouldn’t be taped. Quite the contrary, I’m glad they taped it. Her sad existence is caught and she’s crying out for help. Hopefully someone who is willing or able will help her. I hope her story ends with rehabilitation that actually worked. Sad..

She needs to be placed under conservatorship, but it does not appear that anyone is able to take on the responsiblity. That’s what Britney Spear’s father did when she had that meltdown in 2008. And the tragic thing is that there are thousands of people in her situation who have serious mental illnesses but are not getting treatment. Barring someone taking conservatorship over her, I don’t know how things will turn around for her since she has not been able to do it on her own. I guess all we can do is pray for her. So sad…

Don’t enable them. Cut them off until they are ready for help. This goes for mental illness, too. I know mentally ill ppl. Some want to take the meds and some don’t. She is bipolar and has been checked in to hospitals on several occasions but when it started really affecting her she was already 18 years old. Once she got that age, she had to sign her own papers when she go to the hospital but she refused to stay in…..her mother wrote a book about it before she died. This is so sad!

When she didn’t take her meds, she would fight with her boyfriend until the Police come to the home! Shortly after those episodes she went back to LA and we stopped communicating. She’s suffering from the same disease that Brittany Spears has, but they pulled her together. She was the most kind and sweet person when she’s sedated…As Human Beings we’ve got to treat each other with respect and dignity. There but for the grace of God go we!

Everyone keeps saying celebrities should help her or her family should but her family tried to help her its not that people don’t care I think a lot of you don’t understand mental illness I do because I have a uncle who came back from Vietnam like Maia and everybody tried to help him but since the mentally ill have rights they can refuse treatment and if you put them in a mental hospital and they tell the hospital they don’t want to be there the hospital has to let them go so its an unfortunate situation you got people not in their right mind who have rights and make their own decisions. Its effed up and I hope we change the laws so you won’t see people walking around homeless talking to themselves.
