The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating an oil and gas platform explosion Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico west of the recent catastrophic BP oil spill.

Mariner Energy’s Vermilion Rig 380 exploded about 90 miles south of Vermilion Bay, off Louisiana about 10:30 a.m., Thursday, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough said on CNN.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel said there were seven helicopters, two airplanes and four cutters in the area to rescue the crew, Bloomberg reported.

Thirteen crew members were on the rig and have all been accounted for, the spokesman said.

SMH. The dumba$$es at BP are probably relieved that there’s someone else effing up to take the heat off of them.

While all of the crew from the rig are accounted for, so far reports say at least one person may be injured. We hope the injuries are not severe and the impact of this explosion won’t reach the level that BP’s Deepwater rig did.
