Hollyweird folks raised about 9 mili for Barack Obama’s campaign:
Barack Obama partied with Hollywood celebrities Tuesday night and with the help of Oscar-winning singer and actress Barbra Streisand raised an eye-popping $9 million for his presidential campaign and the Democratic Party.Obama spent more than an hour before dinner getting his picture taken with guests. He said later that people had encouraged him to be tougher and had questioned why he was so calm in a close race against Republican John McCain.
“I’m skinny but I’m tough,” he said. “I’m from Chicago and we don’t play. Just keep steady. If we can cut through the nonsense and the lipstick and the pigs and the silliness, then I’m absolutely convinced that we are going to win,” Obama said, referring to some of the offbeat charges raised against him. “The reason I’m calm … is I’ve got confidence in the American people,” he said. “I really think they want to see us do better.” Standing in the courtyard of the palatial estate, he said his campaign was dedicated to people who need jobs and health care and worry about their pensions and sending children to college. “It’s about those who will never see the inside of a building like this,” Obama said. He said the economic turmoil in recent days had been sobering for America. “It’s reminded people that this is not a game. This is not a reality show, no offense to any of you,” Obama said to laughter. “This is not a sitcom.”

Doesn’t matter who started it. It matters who allowed it. Why didn’t Bush stop the banks and lenders from not doing credit checks, and allowing greedy people to buy more house than they needed by overstating their income, and then allowing the banks and lenders to repackage all this ***** under the table and sell to one another, so that homeowners ended up not knowing who the f-ck the check was supposed to be sent to (and getting in credit trouble that way, when checks were not received where they were supposed to be received) because their banks never told them it was sold?
The only reason I can see is because a false sense of security was better than the hard truth….. which is why Bush gave out those two rebates in the first place. People wanted the false sense of security. People didn’t ask too many questions, because the consequences were ‘years away’.
Well, ‘years away’ is here. Democrats effed up, but Bush/Cheney decided oil was the goal and pursued their little white whale to the exclusion of everything else of importance in this country. And so here we are. ‘Years away’.

I’m personally at the point that The Hood needs to help itself. Obama isn’t talking about pouring money down a hole; Obama is talking about cultural and social change which is where the real change and real uplift is manifest.
Obama should not be blamed because Barbara Streisand headlined a dinner in his campaign’s name, and a whole bunch of rich people donated to Obama’s campaign. ARM loan is a scam — as it was sold during the bubble. Again, a lot of these loans were given out to people who would have never been approved if the proper credit and income checks were done… and banks only explained what could happen in the rosiest terms possible.
And I wish I could find the statistics about how many Americans understand the contracts they sign. The number is low (like sub 15%, but I can’t vouch for that without the site in front of me).
When you’re depending upon someone else to explain a contract to you, and that includes your attorney, you get in trouble. Attorneys are great, but sometimes they are not foolproof. Old people tend to be more trustworthy than others; and they tend to get taken advantage of by ‘nice people’ who aren’t really nice at all. They need to be protected.

At the end of the day I think all politicians are shady. I visit some of the sites that hate Obama and we know he’s not perfect. I worry about some of his advisors and their track records but I still think that McCain is much worse – he doesn’t even have a real agenda and he’s stated plain as day that he doesn’t care about the people in the housing crisis etc. He clearly said that they knew what they were getting into and shouldn’t be helped but it’s all good to help these mortgage and finance companies that were cooking the books??!! Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed “Hatred For The American Government”; Cursed “Damn Flag”

The founder of the Alaska Independence Party — a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years — once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed the American flag as a “damn flag.”
The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that’s now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
“The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government,” Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.
“And I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. “I’ll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.”
At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:
“And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska.”

Palin has courted the group over the years.
Three years after the controversial interview, in 1994, Palin attended the group’s annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News’ Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign is disputing her presence there, but Tapper found two people to attest to it.
The McCain campaign today produced Palin’s voting registration records, and said they proved she was never a member of the party.
But she has repeatedly reached out to the group. The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group’s 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an in*****bent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.
Palin’s husband, Todd Palin, was a member of the party from 1995-2002 with a brief exception in 2000.
It’s worth noting that Vogler isn’t just some figure from ancient history. He is still being hailed on AIP’s site this year, the same year Palin addressed the group’s convention.
It’s worth pondering how big a deal it would be if Obama had ever courted the support of a group whose head had said this kind of thing about America and her flag. Oh, wait…

As a Republican friend of mine said, what the AIP espouses is treasonous and if a real vetting process had been done no VP candidate who belonged to an organization which espouses what the AIP does regarding becoming a separate nation for the sake of drilling in Alaska whenever they wanted, would get the nomination.
There’s also the little matter of the Alaskan permanent fund, which is how Palin was able to get those 80% approval ratings by dishing out OVER A THOUSAHND dollars extra on top of the thousand Alaskans get per family member with no limits or caps. I’ve heard it referred to as a form of socialism, and people wonder how Alaska is able to distribute their natural resources in such a way to each resident of the state just for being a resident…….. but other states are not allowed to do so.

I’m just happy the Feds officially said there will be no golden parachutes given out after the buyouts, in spite of these peoples contracts; what I can’t believe is that any of those execs would actually expect the Feds (the taxpayers) to pay those out in the first place.

The permanent fund was created before Palin, way before. What Palin did, however, was buy a higher approval rating for herself by giving out more money from the fund.

It’s my posistion that “guns” should be handled the same way as “nuclear weapons.” Essentially they have the same effect to a neighborhood that a nuke does to a country. I always find it amusing when people justify the nuclear treaty (which bans other countries with the exception of those that have them already) and are ok with guns. You can TRY to limit nukes by who is “crazy” or not by why would America want to take a chance?

1. obviously a nuke is going to kill more than a gun, but it is all about “scale.” A nuke is also much harder to produce and accurately fire than a gun. That’s why deaths from guns FAR out number deaths form nukes.

I attended the Welcome Home rally for Sarah Palin this morning. Hooo. It was an experience. About a thousand (maybe) hard-core Palin supporters showed up to hear her speak at the new Dena’ina Convention Center in downtown Anchorage.
After shaking it off with a good double shot of espresso, and a brisk walk back to my car, it was time to head to the Alaska Women Reject Palin rally. It was to be held outside on the lawn in front of the Loussac Library in midtown Anchorage. Home made signs were encouraged, and the idea was to make a statement that Sarah Palin does not speak for all Alaska women, or men. I had no idea what to expect.
The rally was organized by a small group of women, talking over coffee. It made me wonder what other things have started with small groups of women talking over coffee. It’s probably an impressive list. These women hatched the plan, printed up flyers, posted them around town, and sent notices to local media outlets. One of those media outlets was KBYR radio, home of Eddie Burke, a long-time uber-conservative Anchorage talk show host. Turns out that Eddie Burke not only announced the rally, but called the people who planned to attend the rally “a bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots”, and read the home phone numbers of the organizers aloud over the air, urging listeners to call and tell them what they thought. The women, of course, received many nasty, har*****ing and threatening messages.
So, as I jettisoned myself from the jaws of the ‘Drill Baby Drill’ crowd and toward the mystery rally at the library, I felt a bit apprehensive. I’d been disappointed before by the turnout at other rallies. Basically, in Anchorage, if you can get 25 people to show up at an event, it’s a success. So, I thought to myself, if we can actually get 100 people there that aren’t sent by Eddie Burke, we’ll be doing good. A real statement will have been made. I confess, I still had a mental image of 15 demonstrators surrounded by hundreds of menacing “socialist baby-killing maggot” haters.
It’s a good thing I wasn’t tailgating when I saw the crowd in front of the library or I would have ended up in somebody’s trunk. When I got there, about 20 minutes early, the line of sign wavers stretched the full length of the library grounds, along the edge of the road, 6 or 7 people deep! I could hardly find a place to park. I nabbed one of the last spots in the library lot, and as I got out of the car and started walking, people seemed to join in from every direction, carrying signs.
Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage. The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators). This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. I was absolutely stunned. The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and gave the thumbs up as they drove by. And even those that didn’t honk looked wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute. This just doesn’t happen here.
Then, the infamous Eddie Burke showed up. He tried to talk to the media, and was instantly surrounded by a group of 20 people who started shouting O-BA-MA so loud he couldn’t be heard. Then p*****ing cars started honking in a rhythmic pattern of 3, like the Obama chant, while the crowd cheered, hooted and waved their signs high.
So, if you’ve been doing the math… Yes. The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin’s rally that got all the national media coverage! So take heart, sit back, and enjoy the photo gallery. Feel free to spread the pictures around (links are appreciated) to anyone who needs to know that Sarah Palin most definitely does not speak for all Alaskans. The citizens of Alaska, who know her best, have things to say.
