You may remember cutie Michael B. Jordan as knuckle head baby drug dealer Wallace on The Wire or Erica Kane’s stepson Reggie on All My Children, but as his career continues to blossom, he’s also added taken on the title of role model.
Jordan, who currently stars on NBC’s hit Friday Night Lights took some time out recently to participate in the “Guest Reader/Read Across America” program, which promotes literacy and a love of reading with the help of celebs in sports, entertainment and politics.
The New Jersey native spent an afternoon reading to the first through fifth grade students at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, one classroom at a time. The “Read Across America” program also helps kids recognize the importance of reading in any career. So in addition to reading, Michael spent time talking to the kids, signing autographs and getting to know the kids.
That’s not the only positivity Michael is throwing into his career. The 23-year-old Emmy Award nominee is set to star as escort fighter pilot Maurice “Bumps” Wilson in George Lucas’ upcoming Tuskegee Airmen tribute film Redtails alongside Method Man, fellow The Wire-alum Tristan Wilds, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard.
And since Michael’s bringing some swirl action to the upcoming season of NBC’s drama-dy series Parenthood, he should fit right in with Terrence and Cuba.
