LL Cool J and Jessica Simpson make unlikely competitors, but the rapper is said to be furious that Simpson’s album, “Do You Know” outsold his own the week both debuted. According to Nielsen Soundscan, Simpson’s first country album topped the country chart and came in No. 4 overall in the rankings by moving 65,000 units. LL’s “Exit 13” came in at No. 9 with sales of 44,000.
“LL is furious,” says a source close to his label, Def Jam. “He was so angry at one point that he was beaten by Jess that he actually threatened to quit rap.” As it turns out, LL was likely just having a moment. A rep for LL says that “he has no plans to quit now,” and the he’s focusing on celebrating his “sixth consecutive top 10 album in his nearly 25 amazing years in music.”
SMH at Jessica Simpson’s experimental “country” album moving more units than LL’s, but the old guy should be happy….44,000 is not really that bad these days.

LOL smile of the day. as for the song, it’s tight.. but the ***** about fake *****ies and being sprung for a chick he has to pay for (!!!) just sound desperate. He doesn’t come off as a mack but as pathetic. But the song is tight otherwise. And no, LL shouldn’t worry at all. He got a Top 10, he has longevity, and it’ll still be played years from now, he’ll still make his money.
He needs to leave the down low alone, though.
The thing about it is that LL’s new album is actually really good. It’s the best he’s put out in like 10 years.
The thing is it’s just like that quote in the batman movie:
“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
LL’s careers been so long that he’s no longer the hero. People see him as the villain and it doesn’t matter how good the material is that he puts out. If his career would’ve died when Big Daddy Kane’s and Rakim’s did he’d be much more loved than he is now. But all in all the album is worth checking out.
I listened to his album and downloaded a couple tracks (some of them *****s is hard as hell) but the majority of your album sounds like this pop rap ***** thats out today and your “real” fans have grown out of that sort of style. Your music is appealing to the younger crowd who (are you listening) DONT BUY ALBUMS!!! So yea guess what its not gonna sell! You have hits longer than 80% of your peers…hit the road and do tours, people will pay to see you. And get back into movies, your not a half bad actor. You have expanded into books, clothing, etc…keep it moving! Your bigger than making albums now.

Those are awful record sales anyway. No one is making money in music anymore. Jessica went country because those fans traditional buy more CDs, but not by much. She’ll be off the chart next week. The only people breaking even are singles artists. No one is buying full CDs anymore.

LL has not lost his flavor, it is just that rap music has changed so much the kids that buy the music is not really feeling him. LL is definitely and icon. About a year ago I was in the car with my daughter and she said. mom I want to listen to LL, not the old LL, but the new LL. I was thinking damm it’s two LL’s?? I started listening to LL back when I was 8 or 9 now my 10 year old daughter is listening to him. No other rapper out there can say that. Very realistic, and versitle, he doesn’t play the gangsters or rappers being that he is a rapper, he goes out of the box and plays someone you wouldn’t think he could or would play and does a ver good job. I think he should persue acting more because there are not many singers or rappers that can rock the acting world. Heres what happened to LL, his first two albums were hard as hell, with the third Public enemy was out and runnin’ ***** with the political rap so L’s Walkin’ with a panther” didnt sit well with the new conscience crowd, he regrouped and made “momma said knock you out” which put him back on top, then for the next 12 years LL made nothing but lovey dovey rap for the *****es, he completely lost his male fanbase, now he wants to return to his roots and put a an album thats kinda hard but its too late, the south has rap so dumbed down right now that most hip hop heads dont even listen to the radio anymore and us males have moved on to *****s who never diluted their ***** like Public Enemy, Rakim, Wu tang, scarface and Dre. LL just go do shows n*gga and make people remember why you were called hard as hell.
