Backtracking Carla Bruni Says Biographers Made It All Up

Now that it’s gotten her plenty of attention, French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is saying that her now infamous conversation with Shelly-O never happened.

Mrs. Sarkozy appeared on CNN yesterday to re-iterate what the French Embassy in Washington had already said in a statement.

“Of course Michelle Obama never said such a thing,” Bruni-Sarkozy said in an interview with CNN.

She also went on to say that despite original reports, the book in which this made up FLOTUS quote appears – Carla and the Ambitious – is no more authorized than the other tale of her groupie-made-good ways it was supposed to counter.

“I’m happy to tell you very frankly that this is not an authorized book,” Bruni-Sarkozy said, adding that she was not inclined to take legal action against its authors.

“I never read the book, I never knew about the book – but I do live in France, and France is a free country, where anyone can, you know, fantasize and print it,” Bruni-Sarkozy said.

“Of course I could do something legal, but… it gives a lot of publicity to all those books. And second of all, it is not in my principle. You know, I’m a Democrat. I believe that everyone is allowed to say and write anything that they want.”

Guess politicians and their PR staffs are the same the world over. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at the Sarkozy house last Thursday…
