Janet Leaves Island Def Jam Music Group

According to a recent interview with Rodney “Darkchild” Jenkins, Janet Jackson has asked for, and has received, a release from Island Def Jam Music Group. It is no secret that album sales have been in the gutter the past couple of go-rounds for our girl. Wherever she lands, we hope she can get things going again because there is no substitute for a rainy Saturday night with libations, and the Velvet Rope cd playing. Ya’ll know what we are talking about.

But these guys can’t be the blame for everything. Janet put together a good album but not as good as she is capable of, those two singles after “Feedback” did not deliver.I think they also rushed the album too fast too and did not set it up right from the beginning.
To those that declair she is done, go cop the show y’all LOL, it will make you change your mind. Janet is far from over.
I hope Janet realizes that she needs to get back to a more mainstream feel to her music and sound. Leave that urban (Jermaine Dupri influenced) shit alone!lol.Get back with Jimmy and Terry and maybe a couple new people and bring back that classic type shit.And write better songs.
Island Def Jam is a solid company and could have done so much beter, but alot of personalities were involved with the demise of this album. Some people just don’t work well together.And it looks like that is what happened with Janet and Def Jam.

She’s been in the game long enough to establish her own label and promote her own projects. Put some money back into your career, Janet. She should be putting out new acts and other projects.

i agree with the person who wrote that she needs to go back to her roots .. thats what the problem is with alot of these artist who’ve been in the game for a long time. .they think they need to do something fresh, and something new when they also need to keep in mind they have an audience that made them popular based on what they were giving at the time and they need to stay true to that .. dont stray too far. the bottom line is a lot of great talent aint getting enough play because of poor management and BAD BAD BAD SONG WRITING! brandy is one, kelly roland another, mario (his last album GO was sick to death) and imma put “Tasia” a.k.a fantasia on this list too because the girl is off the charts and in my opinion way more talented than Jennifer Hudson and still hasnt gotten the recognition that she deserves. so yes, to cosign with others, janet go back to the drawing board and pull out some new any time, any where’s , rhythm nation’s and if’s.

I love me some Janet!! I hate this last album didnt do anything cuz it was actually MUCH betta than some previous ones. JJ needs to chill 4 a sec, regroup and come back strong. She is FAR from done. I cant wait to see her next month in concert!!

It always amazes me how people say Janet needs to go back to her roots but forget that her roots are in urban music. Janet pop sound didnt evolve until Rythm Nation but the control album was completely urban which established her from the beginning. I don’t think thats the issue. Also, in all fairness the last few albums weren’t classic but they were really good albums especially Discipline. Her albums actually have ben better than a lot of artists who have sold more than her in the last few years. I don’t think its a matter of her creativity either cause the “Rock Witchu” video was “SICK” whether it was a little to eccentric for your taste or not it was still hot! The problem is Janet has peaked. Here you have a 42 year old legend and icon. Who is the most succesful artist in Billboard history. Having more billboard and chart toppers than anyone in the industry and I am not talking about album sales or #1’s but I am talking about all her records and achievements on the soundscan outweighs anyone. A generation who was in awe with her is an older generation now who does not buy music like the younger generation who just see Janet as a legend who still performs rather than a current hot artist. She will always be respected but most likely she probably wont sell like she use to anymore which is fine. However, the fact that she has taken control of her career without a label is well done! Now with the “little” bit of albums that she sell she will still probably pocket more money than selling millions with a label.
