Are you planning a trip to Las Vegas next year? Maybe you should go visit on Ron Artest Day.
That’s not a typo. October 12th is now officially Ron Artest Day in Sin City.
Artest, once the poster child for everything that was wrong with the NBA, is now seen as a champion on the court and a champion of mental health off of it. Tonight, as the Lakers prepare to take on the Sacramento Kings in Sin City, Ron Ron will be presented with the key to Las Vegas. The honor is being bestowed on Artest due to his efforts to raise mental health awareness
In addition, October 12th will officially be known as “Ron Artest Day”..
In addition to the keys to the city and the proclamation, Ron also received $10,000 for his charity XCel University.
Following all of the madness in his life leading up to his World Championship winning season with the Los Angeles Lakers last year, Ron launched Xcel U to encourage children and teens living in high-poverty and high-risk environments to complete their education and encourage students to become community leaders by volunteering their time and giving back to their communities.
The program works with community centers to identify at-risk kids and give them incentives to live a positive, healthy lifestyle.
Good job Ron!
