Back in 2007 our editors took notice of a special and gifted individual who had the potential to become the next President of the Free World. We decided early on that we would go full blast and put our site behind Barack Obama. Although we believe America and the entire world needs Barack Obama, our people in particular are in desperate need to see a force of change. If our communities had more Barack and Michelle’s out there, where would we be? If you are not feelin’ his politics and question whether the change you seek is really possible in America, the symbolism and principles (strong family, hard work, self-responsibility, intellectualism) he and Michelle represent alone to our youth is worth your vote. .

Although negroes such as Jesse Jackson and Robert Johnson and some racist white folks want to cut off Obama’s nuts, its our generation’s responsibility to get out there in battleground states such as Ohio, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to pull him over the top. Our ancestors will be watching on November 4th to see if you took 5 minutes out of your day to ride for something other than yourself.

If our country doesn’t elect Obama on November 4th, we deserve to go into another Great Depression.

Click here to register to vote today. Stay tuned for more information on the Bossip election party the night of November 4 in the ATL!

Please, please, please advise everyone you know that they absolutely can NOT go to the polls wearing any Obama (or whoever you are voting for) shirts, pins, hats, etc. It is AGAINST THE LAW and will be grounds to have the polling officials to turn you away. This is considered campaigning and no one can campaign within X amount of feet of the polls. They are banking on us being overly excited and not being aware of this long standing law that you can bet will be ENFORCED THIS YEAR!!!!!

They are banking that if you are turned away, you will not go home and change your clothes and return to the polls to vote. Please just don’t wear ANY gear of any sorts to the polls! Please share this information with as many people as you can. If you are already aware of this, please don’t take it as insulting your intelligence.

Have a great day and see you at the polls on November 4th.

I’m checking in for Palm Beach County, FL one of the swing counties! We’ve had another issue with our ballots and voting machines during our elections last month. This still hasn’t been resolved. We were all a witness to what happened in 2000 & 2004, this ish needs to stop. However, I am proud to report that out of Florida’s 11 swing counties, 9 of these counties has put their money behind Obama leaving only two to McCain. That speaks volumes in this election. Let’s just hope they all come out to Vote on November 4th!

Senator Obama was here in Jacksonville, FL. on Saturday, and the rally drew close to 30,000 people. Since the Great 2000 Election Robbery, I (and most Black folk) spent the last few years cynical as hell and fed up with politics, but on that day, I looked and I saw thousands of people gathered together just to hear one man speak and I felt something I hadn’t felt in eight years: Hope.

  • NotoriousOne~

We HAVE TO go out and support Obama. While the Black & Latino vote won’t theoretically put him in the White House, it is tantamount that we give him every single vote possible. This country needs a change and Obama is wise to this need. Henceforth the reason that McLame is now trying to co-opt Obama’s focal term and ideology.

Do it for self and most importantly, do it for our kids!

    YES WE CAN!!

    YES WE WILL!

    OBAMA ’08 & ‘12

Registered and voting OBAMA in NC!

  • NotoriousOne~

    @ BBC – Afiya…

It should indeed be a black & ugly November because, in my opinion, the only reason Obama is not fully ahead in the polls is because of America’s inherent racist nature.

Already polls have shown that a staggering 28% of Hillary supporters are now backing McLame. How can you call yourself a Democrat but when your (white) candidate is not the winning candidate you can quickly change your political views?!?! I will venture to opine that of the 28%, at least 27.5% are backing McLame because they cannot bring themselves to vote for a strong, qualified black man.

  • 1TruDiva w/The PlatinumVocals is pissed off at the cyber-pedofile so I resorted to “drive-by” posting! The 27th is MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

    Everyone–

I just checked in at work and the 1st e-mail I received was one telling me that I cannot wear an Obama tee-shirt to the polls on Nove. 4th because it would be considered campaigning.

Is there any truth to that? That’s the first time I’ve ever heard of that and why was I able to wear one to the primaries?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!

  • NotoriousOne~

    @ 1TruDiva…

That is right, technically you cannot wear campaign related items to a voting location or in federal buildings (courts & such). It is something that is only slightly enforced (I’ve been told to cover up my Obama buttons on my bag when I go to file papers in federal court). But as Kesha Yvette noted on her 2:32pm post, it CAN be something they can choose to enforce to deter Obama voters. If it’s a pin you can just remove it, if it’s a t-shirt you can turn it inside out or put a jacket over it. It just can’t be visible.

  • 2 Tell Da Truth & Shame All U Devils

I absolutely luv this photo of Barack & Michelle it shows what true love is all about, having each others back and ready to go through any challenge together. @ Kesha Yvette Thanks! for the heads up about the t-shirt, pins and caps situation.

Obama is the “right man” (not just, Black man) at the right time in history. Period. Please ignore the “haters,” regardless if their motivation is sincere or not. DO NOT BE SIDETRACKED. This is too important. It is also his, and our destiny. Just vote and donate. He may not be the best president, but he is the best candidate and we should support him. And “they” say we can’t come together for a cause. Obama ’08.

    NotoriousOne—

Thanks! I really appreciate that info!!

I’m sure there will be some places that will gladly enforce this while others will be a little relaxed about it.

It’s a damn shame that this may possibly deter some people from voting.

With my luck, I would’ve worn an Obama tee shirt to the polls and if they would’ve said something to me–I would’ve took it off ON THE SPOT!!

Then got arrested for indecent exposure!

    Damn!!!

    Lol!!!!!!!!!!

You saved me from spending some time in jail!

    And you are correct BBC

National Public Radio did a survey and found that this entire election is based on whether or not white Americans are ready for a non-traditional person to run the country. They’re not crazy about Palin too, but they breath easier knowing she’s just the assistant to chief.

  • 1TruDiva w/The PlatinumVocals is pissed off at the cyber-pedofile so I resorted to “drive-by” posting! The 27th is MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

I’m taking a vacation day on Nov 4th and 5th. I’m not trying to be at work while America makes history!!!

  • NotoriousOne~

    @ 1TruDiva…

No worries, I would have taken on your case pro-bono. LOL But there are quite a few “voting laws” pro-Republican districts will be enforcing this election. Already there have been stories about voters possibly getting questioned if their name comes up in foreclosure notices because again, technically, you can be deterred from voting if you cannot show that you have a legitimate physical address in your voting district. Just one of the many ways that predominantly Republican districts are going to look to suppress the Democratic vote.

  • NotoriousOne~

    @ fadi…

I think what Cher meant to say was that in electing McCain, his policies would possibly lead this country into a great depression. It is quite depressing that in spite of the actions of Bush (costly, unjust war, housing market disaster, high unemployment rate, staggering economy), which McLame strongly supported, this country is actually backing McSame in such high numbers.

  • Nita

I hope everyone who entered this thread and isn’t registered to vote… clicked on the link above.

Is there a way to keep count? Might be a good motivator, to show people are serious.

  • NotoriousOne~

    @ Roosevelt…

Again, I don’t believe Cher was “wishing” a great depression but just saying that a McCain presidency would very possibly lead this country into a great depression.

And you’re right, a lot of bi-partisan mistakes have been made in the last 20 years but one thing that we have learned is that the USA is not the dominant economic/military world power it used to be. Therefore, the “cowboy” attitude that was prevalent during the Bush administration and threatens to be the modus operandi of the McSame campaign is a sour sticking point. Obama has offered that “change” that is sorely needed in dealing w/ foreign powers.

As for the “tax the rich” motto. If you do find yourself in that upper echelons of earning ($250,000 or more) I would hope that you would think back of the days when you weren’t making that much money and realize that you are better able to afford a tax increase as opposed to that individual making $40-$50K a year. I work for mine and I paid a lot of money for my MBA/JD degree but still, I don’t mind paying extra taxes if it’s going towards rebuilding our communities as opposed to more taxes to fund unjust wars and fatten corporate pockets through uncontested gov’t contracts (such as those received by Halliburton).

  • JSkyy

Amen Roosevelt! I wish more people would pay attention to the issues, research and make intelligent choices. Not make blind uninformed decisions because of skin color and media. This is something you should do as a responsible American citizen that understands the gift and power of your vote. No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, make it an informed decision people.

    @ Nita–

I was born shortly after the clisp of segregation. However–I do remember my grandmother being very afraid of the effects of change.

    Another note–

I keep seeing and hearing people questioning people supporting Obama solely on the basis of his race but I can clearly remember reading countless articles about people siding with Kennedy on the basis of his religion.

    What gives?

Plus–I’m sure people will vote for McCain because of who he may be or things more than just his political beliefs ans standings.

Hell–there might be some who vote for him because he’s white and THAT ALONE!!!

I just don’t understand the double standard.

    SMH!!!!

If you have qustions about Obama’s policy, you can go to his website and read his views. I encourage everyone to know why you are voting for Obama. Also in the Washington Post today, they break down how people will be taxed. If you make less than 250k/yr (which most small businesses make) you’re good.

  • Sydney

    @Nita

Both my parents lived through Jim Crow, the deaths of King, Malcolm, Medgar, and so many others, and have actively volunteered for the Obama campaign. Neither one thought he would live to see a black man run for president.

I want to vote in person, too, and I plan to watch the results in a group setting that night.

    Hi Diva :)

Regarding the assertion that blacks are voting for Obama based on race, traditionally, African Americans have largely voted Democratic in election, so, if you look back at history, many of us have voted/supported far more white candidates than politicians who share our skin color.

Also, there have been recent polls about white women voters who have crossed party lines to support Palin — should they be equally criticized for voting for a fellow white woman? The silence on that point is deafening.

  • V

I don’t know why some people say we’re praising Obama like he’s the Messiah…..I have only one Messiah and that’s Jesus. I’m just happy to see a black man who speaks a positive word running for president. I will vote for him and if he wins, my faith and trust is in my Lord, to guide him to lead this country in a more positive direction. When this country suffers blacks tend to suffer a lot worst than others.

  • SleeezyE

DO NOT wear anything that identifies you as an Obama supporter! The GOP has filed suit and won claiming that wearing clothing with a candidate’s name, logo, etc. is considered “passive electioneering”. They did this so they can spot Obama supporters and make it hard for you to vote! Google it! They’re trying their damndest to stop us, but let’s steam roll their lying Republican asses on Nov. 4th!!!!

  • GO GETTA

Sorry but I gotta disagree with you about the “Great Depression.” I don’t want no part of that even though growing up was like one. If Obama doesn’t win I will still be proud to be an American. I will also be proud of the millions of other Americans of many races who voted for Obama. All who have shown the that many in this country have progressed beyond race, culture or creed.

    Hi!!!

You’re correct!!! But I’ve actually heard people elude to their support of McCain based on his color and not for his political standings.

There was a man here that said he would not vote for Obama SOLELY because he’s black!!! I asked him to repeat what he said because I honestly couldn’t believe my ears!!!

At the same time, the first thing that made me notice Obama was his ethnicity. Then I began to really check him out. I wanted to know more about him, understand his views and finally asked myself how will putting him in office affect me? I asked the same question to myself in reference to McCain.

You notice I talk to myself a lot, huh?

    Lol!!!!!!

No–I don’t believe Obama hung the moon! But from what I see–McCain stands to ride on the same side as people that have been in office the past eight years and I DO KNOW that in some ways, I’m worse off now than eight years ago.

I know what I’ve seen and how it affected me and mine with what we have.

I don’t know the future but I’m damn sure willing to be a part of the change. Yes–it’s like stepping out on blind faith but at this stage in the game–I’d rather go that route!

I’m not saying — I’m just saying — Child please don’t let me hear this on CNN.

We have to admit one thing, times have indeed change, but for some it has not changed the minds of people who were born into an environment of racism and hatred.

Today, people suffer, “people” black, white, Jew, Italian, Creo, Chinese, Korean, Spanish etc., In this day and age a good majority are without housing, employment, food, transportation, education, etc.

We are a member of “one” human race. The people who set the rules, govern the country are people of all human races. I ask???? Are you tired of one race making bad decisions on your behalf? Or, are you sick and tired of these congressional leaders making bad decisions for you and you don’t care what damn race, nationality, or ethnic background their from.

if you live in the state of texas vote for obama & the two black republican state judges jefferson & wright. michael williams the railroad commissioner who is a republican also. black unity!

  • The Cleaner

Both the democratic and republican parties have served as historical and contemporary mechanisms of oppression for black people. Yet, we still put our faith in the democratic party and the American political machine for the embetterment of our lives…just because they’ve slapped a black face on the Democratic ticket. I think we’re so desperate for relief in America, that we don’t realize that change doesn’t always mean correction. Barack rolls with an elitist and fascist group of people. He was a lawyer, defending slum lords in Chicago. He lives in a home that costs $1.9 million, and earns over $300,000 a year. He has no personal worries about health care, gas prices, or the war. And he cannot (or intentionally does not) relate to black people in this country. He wouldn’t even go to New Orleans when he was invited earlier this year to discuss issues pertinent to black people in America. Yet, we still rally behind this man who has done nothing to earn the loyalty of black people. Just like we rallied behind O.J., who had no interests in black people, we rally behind Barack. Then, when a black person says they don’t agree with Barack’s political platform, we jump on them and label them “traitors” simply because they’re not impressed by the fact that Barack is black.

    Barack Obama: 1 car

John McCain: 13 cars, as reported by Newsweek

    Barack Obama: $300,000 in income

John McCain: This from a recent NY Times story on the McCains’ assets: “Mrs. McCain has released only a two-page Form 1040 from her 2006 return. It listed $4.5 million in income from S corporations (like Hensley), partnerships, rental real estate and other categories; capital gains of $743,000, and dividends of $283,000. Mr. McCain’s tax returns show that his wife received a salary from Hensley of more than $430,000 each of the last two years. (Mr. McCain listed $361,373 of his own income in 2007.)

Senate rules do not require spouses to specify the values of assets or income sources exceeding $1 million, and Mrs. McCain has many of them, including shares in Anheuser-Busch, which at a minimum are worth $2.7 million.”

When one is running for President of the United States of America. America is not, according to Mr Obama, “A Blue American nor is it a Red America.”

Now is not the time to throw out or seperate yourself from other races in America by showing favortism toward black people that live in America. How ironic, a black person running for president has contributed to the ideas that one man should be talking about how he is gonna change the situations of black America. Now is not the time for that, he is not to become the president of the united states for black people alone.

Come on, WAKE UP….SMELL THE COFFEE. How come so many people are speaking out against Obama, without doing any research into his life. This is the reason why he has spoke out about his life, background and career, because he did not want any misconceptions and untruths.

There are alot of so called black leaders who are not present at every single mishap in Black America. Please, I did not see Al sharpton over their in New Orleans helping to rebuild houses, feeding the hungry and contributing to a broken educational system.

There are millions of schools in America such as in Tennessee, where the educational system is failing the majority of black student who suffer from poverty. I do not see Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or any other blackcelebleaders helping out in these situations.

Stop seeing race and see the man with the vision…

@B-Nice: Even if these folks saw Obama at EVERY aspect of his life, and he had cameras in his home like a reality show, folks will still not vote for him! Many openly admit they will not vote for Barack because he is Black. Period. It’s a sad state of affairs, and these people would rather throw our country under the bus rather than hold the current administration responsible and NOT vote them in for another four years!

I fully understand that, I do not like it, but I understand people are accustomed to the past presidents obvious skin color “white”.

What I have a hard time with the response from some people in the black culture in reference to him not being present at rallies and events that have unfortunately, affected the black culture. Not being there, in my opinion, has nothing to do with running for president of the United States. How many ways does Obama have to show that he is commited to focusing on all the issues that affect everyone in America, “Everyone”.

We are not living in the past we are living for the future. I think most people in America feel as if they are safer with a ‘white man’ in office. Take note, the President is the President but makes decisions with people of all color.

    Now let’s let that marinate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    President of the United States

II. Term of Office and Qualifications

    A. Term of Office

The Constitution of the United States specifies a four-year presidential term. It originally said nothing about how many terms a president could serve. But the precedent established by George Washington limited his successors to two terms. Succession by a vice president after a president’s death provided the opportunity to serve more than eight years without strictly violating the two-term rule. No president tried to serve more than eight years in office until Republican Theodore Roosevelt. After filling out three-and-a-half years of the term of President William McKinley following McKinley’s assassination in 1901 and then serving four years in his own right (1905-1909), Roosevelt ran unsuccessfully in 1912 for another four years.

The need for steady leadership during World War II (1939-1945) made it possible for Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt to break the tradition by winning four successive elections between 1932 and 1944. In a reaction against Franklin Roosevelt’s extended presidency, in 1951 Congress and state legislatures approved the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which limits a president to two elected terms. The amendment also prohibits a person from running for election a second time if he or she has already served more than two years of a term to which someone else had been elected.

    B. Presidential Qualifications and Salary

The Constitution requires presidents to be natural-born citizens of the United States who are at least 35 years of age and have resided in the United States for 14 years. As a tacit statement of America’s commitment to democracy and equal opportunity, the Constitution gave any free white male citizen of the country the opportunity to become president. All males gained the right to become president in 1870 when the 15th Amendment to the Constitution gave African Americans the right to vote. Women were excluded from running for the office until 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution gave them the right to vote.

The Constitution specifies that presidents receive compensation (salary and benefits) for their work, and Congress sets the specific amount. The salary of presidents cannot be increased or diminished during their term of office. Nor can the president receive additional payments from the federal government or any of the states while in office. The Constitution also disallows presidents and other federal officials from receiving any title of nobility, gift, payment, or official position from a king, prince, or foreign state. All gifts to a president from foreign governments belong to the people of the United States rather than the president.

Congress establishes presidential salaries. Originally, the president earned $25,000, and this was doubled to $50,000 in 1873. In 1907 Congress added an annual $25,000 stipend for expenses connected with the office. The president’s salary increased to $75,000 in 1909 and went up again to $100,000 in 1949. At that time the expense allowance also increased to $90,000. In 1969 the salary advanced to $200,000, with $100,000 budgeted for travel and another $50,000 for expenses. In 2001 the salary increased to $400,000 plus $50,000 for expenses. Because the president’s official duties incur far more expenses than the expense budget can cover, agencies of the federal government often assume responsibility for presidential events. The Department of Defense, for example, pays the cost of having a military band perform at White House social functions and ceremonies.

For most of America’s history, retired presidents did not receive a pension. In 1958 Congress passed the Former Presidents Act, which gave retired presidents a pension of $25,000 per year, an office, and a staff. Congress has increased the pension several times. Former presidents now receive a pension that is based on the annual salary of a cabinet secretary, which was $161,200 in 2001. Former presidents have historically been given a generous allowance for office and staff. Beginning with Democrat Bill Clinton, presidents (or their surviving widows or widowers) will receive funds for an office and staff for four and one-half years after they leave office.

Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989) and the 33rd Governor of California (1967–1975). Born in Illinois, Reagan moved to Los Angeles, California in the 1930s, where he was an actor, president of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and a spokesman for General Electric (GE). His start in politics occurred during his work for GE; originally a member of the Democratic Party, he switched to the Republican Party in 1962.

Research Ronald Regan and please answer one question.

How qualified was Ronald Regan to be a Governor let alone a President of the United States? Then tell me how you thing Obama is not qualified. If he was Denzel Washington or better yet Arnold Swartneggger would he then be qualified?

They do like many folks – get e-mails, and blindly forward because it somehow feeds into their views. But they will NOT go to sources that may refute the information, or give them a reason to doubt their own narrow view of life.

This behavior takes them out of the comfort zone and they have to answer why they are so bigoted or have behaved in an ignorant manner.

Some are more comfortable beiong ignorant and in the dark.

    A New Black Power

Most black Americans have been Democrats for at least the fifty-three years that I’ve been alive. What have the Democrats done for us in all that time? We have the lowest average income of any large racial group in the nation. We’re incarcerated at an alarmingly high rate. We are still segregated and profiled, and have a very low representation at the top echelons of the Democratic Party. We are the stalwarts, the bulwark, the Old Faithful of the Democrats, and yet they have not made our issues a high priority in a very long time.

Why should we be second-class members in the most important political activities of our lives? Why shouldn’t the party we belong to think that our problems are the most important in this land?

I’m not saying that we should become Republicans. The Republicans don’t care about us either. But at least they don’t pretend to be on our side. And you have to admit that, of late, the Bush Administration has put black faces into high-profile jobs that carry clout on the international playing field. I don’t have to like Colin Powell or Condoleezza Rice to appreciate that once a black person has been put into a position of power, the second time around is much, much easier.

We are a racial minority in a country where racism is a fact of life, a country that was founded on economic and imperialist racism. Taking this into account and adding it to the fact that our issues are regularly put on a back burner, I believe that it is not out of order to send out a call for the formation of an African-American interest group, or maybe a political unit, that would bring our issues, and others, to the forefront of American political discourse.

If we had our own political voting bloc that paid attention to issues that reflect our needs in domestic and international affairs, things would change for us. The first thing is that many more of us would be likely to vote. Imagine the interest young people would have if they felt we were organizing based on our own interests: They could work for a candidate who represented their issues; they could run for office themselves.

And even though the party would be based on the racial identity that has been shoved down our throats since the first days we came here in chains, we wouldn’t work only for ourselves. We’d argue about medical care and Social Security and the good jobs that are disappearing from this nation like fleas off a dead dog’s back.

America’s corporations, CEOs and portfolio managers don’t have to worry about the euro and the devaluation of the dollar. They belong to an international club. It doesn’t matter where the most recent SUV is being produced; what matters is that my stockholders and I own a piece of the company that makes and sells those cars.

It takes many companies working in unison to make secure the wealth of American capitalism. Two of the major-interest corporations that facilitate the needs of our wealthiest citizens are the Republican and Democratic (so-called) political parties. They exonerate their actions with numbers of votes, but the wheels they run on are greased by money, and lots of it.

If we took the vote into our own hands, we wouldn’t have to ask the Democrats for their support–we could demand it. George W. Bush, or whoever takes his place, will send for our representatives to come to his home to discuss his plans. This is because they have not yet figured out how to dispose of the vote in the American political system.

Imagine it. We could actually democratize America by taking power away from the two-party system and handing it over to the people. Other special parties would arise splintering off from the centrist attendants of the rich once we show them the way.

What I’m talking about here is the beginning of an American Evolution, a movement that will create a series of political interest groups that will transform our two-party system into a kind of virtual parliament. We could construct smaller political groups based on specific interests. There could be Black Party Congress members from Watts, Harlem, the Motor City and a dozen other inner-city bastions. All we have to do is have a fair representation in the House of Representatives to have an extraordinary impact on the wheels of government.

Farmers, women, the aged, angry young white men and, for that matter, true Republicans might create their own small parties/interest groups. These groups would not only have direct representation in the House of Representatives but would also begin to make deals with those people running for senator and President, police chief and mayor.

It’s past the time when we black Americans can complain about how we are treated without ourselves trying to take the reins of power. A Black Voting Bloc would be a bold move. Some might say a radical move–too radical. But a country that incarcerates people of color at an eight-to-one ratio to whites played the race card way before Johnnie Cochran. If we could come together and see a way to put balance back in the American political landscape, then we should do it.

All of this talk about Fanniemae contribution or advisement for the Obama campaign is juse a ploy, a distraction to cover up that all of these illegal home mortgage banking loans occurred during the Bush/Cheney administration.

Bush nor Cheney have stepped up to plate to discuss what went wrong to lead us into this financial turmoil. Senator McCain is one of the leading politicians who also was very aware and had the political power to stop these wrong doings.

Neither did nothing to stop these bad practices because a good majority of these bad loan practices were affecting the poor and disinfranchised. so, frankly, when your live in a 2.5-5.8 million mansion, owning 5-6 lavish houses, flying around the country in the 1-2 jets you own who gives a damn about a company giving out loans to people who they knew were not going to make good on those loans.

Political contributions are used to boost your ability to campaign and receive a tax break. It does not signify your personal feelings toward the canidate one way or another. One can choose to take the money or give it back. This administration has made thousands of mistakes since day 1. Do not hold Obama/Biden campaign at bay for simply doing what the constitution of campaign contribution allows one to act upon.

Necy, are you referring to the Washington Post poll? Yeah, Obama has a significant lead. :)

I think there were questions about the Vote for Change site, and it’s connected with the Obama campaign, so it’s legitimate. You can find a link to it on Obama’s site, www(dot)barackobama(dot)com.

Here’s more info on other sources of voting information from TheRoot(dot)com:

If you’re at least 18 and a U.S. citizen, you’re ready to register. And the rush is on. The place to register is with your local county or city elections clerk. Several Web sites including Rock the Vote and Vote411 provide voters with registration forms online that can then be submitted to their local clerks. It can take up to three weeks for you to receive your voter card in the mail.

Since each state has its own voting and registering roadmaps, it is important to pay attention to state guidelines, located on the secretary of state’s Web site. Registration deadlines are around the corner; the first ones—Alaska, Rhode Island, South Carolina—occur during the first week of October.

Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Wyoming are the only states that allow citizens to register on Election Day.

Already registered? Thirty-four states and the District of Columbia allow citizens to vote early, by mail or in person. Voting early by mail, or absentee voting, is common for college students, older citizens and those who cannot make it to their designated poll on Election Day.

  • Sydney

Here’s the address for another voters rights site, Election Protection, www(dot)866ourvote(dot)org/:

The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and its partners recently launched Election Protection, a Web site for voters to gain voter-registration information and to clear up any wrong information. Their hot line, 1-866-OUR-VOTE, provides live help for any voter, in any state. The volunteers on the hot line can look up voter-registration statutes and provide advice on how to navigate the state’s election laws.

Before you go to the polls, get educated – know the rules. Twenty-four states require some form of identification. Seven of those, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan and South Dakota, require photo identification.

  • You’ll buy anything!

Don’t let them steal this from us:

Check your registration status, re-register if your registration is some how no longer current, if your house has been foreclosed on re-register with a current address, if you’ve previously been convicted and have served your time and probation check your ability to register to vote, don’t just assume you can’t vote. Be very vigilant at the polls as the Repubs will be out in force trying to challenge votes so if you see anything that doesn’t look right, report it. You may not want to wear your Obama gear at the polls as this may be another reason for them to challenge due to “electioneering”. I’d also encourage you to vote on election day if you can to reduce some of the fraud that occurs with early voting ballots. OBAMA/BIDEN 08 (if not, Canada here I come!)

I agree with eddiedollars215. Most people supporting Barack Obama(and John McCain for that matter) are casual voters whose opinions are based on feelings and biased reports from cnn and faux news. The people that have posted above are clearly not educated in matters of politics or instituting social change. Successful revolutions don’t happen in the context of bi-partisan elections nor do they center around a charismatic so-called leader that gives a feel-good speech every now and then. Revolutions occur when people take it upon themselves to change their own lives by taking action. Our ancestors were misguided in fighting to be apart of this corrupt construct called America. When are we going to wake up and realize that working through avenues provided by your enemies doesn’t work?

“Any organization, movement or people who rely solely (or even greatly) on a charismatic leader for their strength and their motivation are in the most precarious position possible. Hi all. @ Cleaner: You are obviously well read, but your analysis falls short in this respect. You are watching the “Black voting Bloc” that you espouse right NOW, as galvanized by the Obama campaign. That the Black electorate has never been so energized in U.S., with perhaps the exception of the late ’60′s, cannot be disputed. The Afrocentric Bloc that you envision will never be effective given the relatively small population of Blacks in America and the continued backlash against “real” Black progress, or the progress of the underclass, quite frankly. (Capitalism means that someone must necessarily be exploited).

Notice that Obama’s campaign is about inclusion and is somewhat centrist, which allows him to use the current political/economic structure which is in place to his advantage. Black militancy has its place (I will not say what it is b/c everything is not for every ear), but trust me, it’s not in a presidential campaign in 2008, or I dare say any SUCCESSFUL election in the U.S. There will be no “Revolution.”

@TMHESQ. The black voting bloc that I mentioned(from quotes written by Walter Mosley) is in no way repesented by blacks that are coming out in support of Barack for two reasons: (1) the black voting bloc envisioned in my prior post is designed around interest that are unique to blacks and adds, for mass appeal, centrist interest to draw in other ethnic and racial groups (i.e. healthcare, etc.). Barack’s campaign does not include interest that are unique to black people. And Barack has not include in his platform issues that are unique to the black struggle in America. Barack avoids speaking on issues of race as much as possible, unless he’s bad-mouthing black men for their negligence in raising their kids,of course (which gains him much white support).

Second, the black bloc envisioned in my previous post would garner more blac voters than the current number of black voters because it would be speaking to issues that are, once again, unique to black people rather than the issues determined by the capitalists democrat party. Most of the contributions that oil the wheels of both the democrat and republican party come from corporations and serve corporate interests, not blacks’ interests.

In addition, a considerable amount of blacks are still not registered to vote. This is possibly largely due to the fact that many blacks are not inspired by Barack’s feel good speeches and feel that American political discourse never addresses their issues…even when there’s a black man campaigning.

But the two and the presidency wait to get inside was worth it. It’s also in better shape than I thought, but perhaps they’ve rebuilt the polls of it. We met up again at the polls).
