I’ve actually never heard a whole album by him but fuck if Illmatic ( which was a spectacular commercial flop) wasnt one of the dopest albums of all times and definitely the best album of that very innovative era of hip hop history.
But in terms of which rappers had a greater impact, it was neither Jay Z or Nas. It was by far, by about a million miles the Wu Tang Clan. Tell me the Wu Tang didt revolutionize hip hop? I mean they added another layer of hip hop that, thankfully couldnt even be duplicated.
Them niggas taught fools how to dress they had brothas speaking a different language. Wu Tang was a big tent organization that allowed so many different emcees to gel together so perfectly. Even when the niggahs split up they was dope. Method Man, Raekwon ( Cuban Link was one of the dopest albums of the 90s) Ghost Face, and ODB? What? In another ten or twenty years, you might have another Jay Z. You might have another Nas. But you will never have another Wu Tang Clan. You will never have another Ol’ Dirty.
