Michael Jackson is pulling a Tupac! Sony’s Epic label has announced plans to release the King of Pop’s first posthumous album on December 14, just in time for Christmas!

The album cover (pictured above) uses a Kadir Nelson oil painting depicting two naked cherubs placing a crown on Jackson’s head against a background mural featuring the singer at various stages in his career.

The new MJ album, Michael, will feature previously unreleased tracks. So far very few details about the project have been released but a trailer about the set is scheduled to appear on michaeljackson.com today. One of the songs, “Breaking News,” which was originally recorded in 2007 and only recently completed, is scheduled to stream on the site next week.

It’s believed that other material, from MJ studio sessions in Los Angeles and Las Vegas will comprise the rest of the album. Jackson worked with several artists, including Akon and Lady Gaga before his death.

While the Jackson Estate had agreed to continue to work with Sony/Columbia/Epic after his death, they have raised concerns over the release of this project.

“If Michael had wanted this music released he would have done so before his death,” Jackson family attorney Brian Oxman said in a statement.

“The songs which are being released on the new Michael Jackson album were unfinished and incomplete tracks that Michael said over and over many times he never wanted released,” Oxman said. “We should honor Michael Jackson’s wishes.”

TMZ has also reported that Jackson’s mother, Katherine and his children, Prince Michael and Paris say the tracks are fakes — sung by a Jackson impersonator. According to their claims, the children were present when their father recorded some of the songs and the tracks on the album don’t match what they heard.

Damn! That’s crazy.

Fans will be able to pre-order the album from michaeljackson.com within the next 24 hours.

Will you still be picking it up, even when the family is claiming the music was made by an impersonator???
