Michelle Obama supported her husband Barack at the first presidential debate this past Friday.  This is who we need in the White House.

    I love Michelle, and I think many other sistas, whatever their political affiliation, do as well. She’s a poised, eloquent, accomplished woman, and if Obama wins the election, I believe she will be a wonderful role model for little black girls who have big dreams. I have to say, I’m supporting Obama for his policies and his ability to lead, but I also absolutely adore the relationship he has with Michelle — the love between them is visible and endearing.

    Time magazine posted a nice piece on the qualities that Michelle would bring to the White House, should Obama win:

    “If the past 20 months have had their rough patches, what’s surprising at this point is how unguarded Michelle still seems: the most endearing and entertaining parts of her public appearances are ad-libbed, whether she’s bragging to a Denver audience that she’s wearing sensible shoes (the member of her staff in particularly high heels that day was “going to be sorry in the end,” Michelle joked) or referring to Barack, as she did at the convention’s black caucus, as “this guy that I know, this man that I married,” before mischievously adding, “his cute self.” Anyone who doubts her off-the-cuff charm should Google the clip in which she’s giving an outdoor speech and her dress flies up in the wind. Deftly catching it, she tells the audience, “I don’t mean to flash you guys … I’m not going to be on YouTube.”

    And this is Michelle Obama’s greatest gift: her ability to relate to regular people, and vice versa. Even though she’s taller and fitter and better educated than most of us, she is completely and totally believable as a person who lives in the same world we do, who consumes the same pop culture (Us Weekly, anyone?) and shops at the same stores (Target, Gap) and struggles with most if not all of the same personal and professional juggling acts.”

    Hi, Diva!

    @Be

    Yes, there is some harsh criticism of Palin among some conservatives. Kathleen Parker of The New Republic wrote a commentary last week that called for Palin to step down.

    @Sydney & Keesha – ooohhh, I guess they are seeing what we already knew….she just was not a good choice

    @BE

    I just read on The Huffington Post that Palin has more interviews scheduled this week with CBS. Apparently, the McCain campaign wants her to be seen before Thursday’s debate. I’m not sure that’s such a great idea. . .

    BTW, this is from conservative Kathleen Parker’s column, called “Palin Problem,” last week on Nationalreview(dot)com: “Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.Do it for your country.”

    The criticism of Palin has been coming from both Republicans and Democrats, and I think the expert consensus is that expectations of her performance on Thursday are low.

  29. OK. I’m try this again!!!

    Hi Peeps!!!

    @ IJM–

    Even though I’m talking to you on the phone, I’m giving you a BOSSIP shout out!!!!!

    SARAH PALIN > MICHELLE OBAMA

  32. shavon denise

    Love them! Black love is beautiful. I believe that she is a good representation for not just Black women but women period. Listen ladies, everyone has had their time. Black men are having it now, white women have broken thru the gl***** ceiling, and well white men..its their freakin’ world. So now its time to start focusing on Black women and impowering us to want to be anything that we want to be. I believe that Obama is paving ways for all minorities yet there is still a preoccupation about “Black women”. I cant recall how many times Ive heard people say that Michelle Obama is mean, or she appears to be a ***** just because she’s forward, frank, and educated. Women in general have to deal with sexism but as black women we have to deal with the two headed monster. Racism AND sexism. Anybody who doesnt get that dont get nothing and thats real. So after we get B.O. elected, lets focus on our own movement. The only movement that hasnt occured yet is the one for the Black/minority female. I LOVE what Hillary represented despite what she tried to do to sabotage B.O., and believe it or not I am proud of Sarah Palin for her accomplishments. Yet, I feel like Palin is hurting women more than she’s helping them and its not her fault. She was forced into the position and is expected to cram and read the cliff notes to make up for her lack of knowledge. Its unfair because the first woman candidate for vice president is just a *****. Despite my beliefs I pay homage to Palin yet there are 100’s of non-white women who qualified before she did (i.e. Condolezza Rice) and I want us to realize that its time for us to start our movement.

  33. BE

    @Sydney – thanks, i will look at the website

  34. Sydney

    @Be

    Yes, people are now openly saying that Palin wasn’t a good choice, and there are questions about McCain’s judgment. A lot is riding on Thursday’s debate. I think even some proud conservatives are having a hard time defending her as the best choice for vp. The frightening part is, given McCain’s age (72) and health record, the likelihood that she could one day be president is high, so I think that scares some people, too. After eight years of a president with subpar intelligence that is mocked around the world, the reality of a President Palin is one I don’t want to have.

  48. A list of John McCain’s lies.

    McCain said Obama voted to cut off money for the troops in Iraq. THE FACTS: Despite opposing the war, Obama has, with one exception, voted for Iraq troop financing. In 2007, he voted against a troop funding bill because it did not contain language calling for a troop withdrawal. The Illinois senator backed another bill that had such language – and money for the troops. [AP, 9/26/08.]

    Calling on President Eisenhower to deliver a lesson about accountability, Sen. John McCain invoked two letters aut*****d by the 34th president the night before the Normandy invasion during Friday’s presidential debate. One letter, McCain said, was aut*****d in the event that the D-Day invasion was a success and the other, a resignation, in the event it was a failure. According to the National Archives, late on the afternoon of June 5, 1944, Eisenhower scribbled a note intended for release accepting responsibility for the decision to launch the invasion and taking full blame in the event the effort to create a beachhead on the Normandy coast failed. In the letter, Eisenhower takes responsibility but makes no mention of resignation. [ABC News, 9/26/08:]

    McCain: ‘I voted for alternate fuel all my time. … No one can be opposed to alternate energy, no one.’ Fact Check: In his 26 years in Congress, McCain has voted against several bills and amendments calling for new investments in renewable energy, according to official Senate records. In March 2002, for example, McCain voted against an amendment to require utilities to generate 10 percent of electricity from renewable energy facilities by 2020.” [Boston Globe, 9/26/08:]

    MCCAIN: “We had an energy bill before the United States Senate. It was festooned with Christmas tree ornaments. It had all kinds of breaks for the oil companies, I mean, billions of dollars worth. I voted against it; Senator Obama voted for it.” THE FACTS: Obama did vote for a 2005 energy bill supported by President Bush that included billions in subsidies for oil and natural gas production. McCain opposed the bill on grounds it included unnecessary tax breaks for the oil industry. Obama voted to strip the legislation of the oil and gas industry tax breaks. When that failed, he voted for the overall measure. Obama has said he supported the legislation because it provided money for renewable energy. [AP, 9/26/08:]

    MCCAIN: “I’ve been criticized because I called for the resignation of the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.” THE FACT: McCain did eventually call for the resignation of SEC Chairman Christopher *****. But he first said that if he were president he would fire him, a step a president cannot take with the head of an independent regulatory agency. This is what McCain said on Sept. 18 during a rally in Iowa: “The chairman of the SEC serves at the appointment of the president and, in my view, has betrayed the public’s trust. If I were president today, I would fire him.” [AP, 9/26/08:]

    John McCain raised an old Republican canard, repeated often in the primaries, when he claimed that Obama’s health care plan would eventually turn the health care system over to the federal government. The Illinois senator proposes helping individuals purchase health insurance through a system of subsidies and tax credits. He is also in favor of mandatory health insurance for children. But he is not advocating a state-run health system, such as the one that exists in Britain and some European countries. Under the Obama plan, individuals will still be free to choose between different types of health insurance, and will be able to choose their own doctors.” [Washington Post Fact Checker blog, 9/26/08:]

    McCain, rebutting Obama’s correct observation that earmarks are a small part of the budget, said, “But the point is, that you see, I hear this all the time. It’s only $18 billion. Do you know that it’s tripled in the last five years? Do you know that it’s gone completely out of control to the point where it corrupts people?” But while federal earmarks tripled in size from 1996 to 2005, they have actually dropped in recent years. According to the White House Office of Management and Budget, in fiscal year 2005 Congress inserted 13,492 earmarks totaling $18.9 billion for appropriations accounts. In fiscal year 2008, there were 11,524 earmarks totaling $16.5 billion for appropriations accounts.” [Washington Post Fact Checker blog, 9/26/08:]

    John McCain kicked the evening off with a wild exaggeration by describing the allied invasion of Normandy as ‘the greatest invasion’ in history. Such historical comparisons are always dangerous. In scale, the D-Day landings were far exceeded by Operation Barbarossa, the ***** attack on the Soviet Union, in June 1941, and the Soviet invasion of Germany at the end of World War II. A total of 326,000 allied troops took part in the initial D-day Landings in June 1944. By comparison, Hitler’s sent an army of 4.5 million men into the Soviet Union in June 1941 along a 1,800 mile front.” [Washington Post Fact Checker blog, 9/26/08:]

    “McCain: ‘Senator Obama said the surge could not work, said it would increase sectarian violence, said it was doomed to failure.’ Fact Check: Obama said at the time that the increase in roughly 30,000 US troops in Iraq could improve security in ‘certain neighborhoods’ but that it would not solve the long term political strife between Iraq’s ethnic and religious groups. ‘I don’t think there’s been any doubt that if we put U.S. troops in that, in the short term, we might see some improvement in certain neighborhoods,’ he said in March 2007. In a September 2007, speech Obama said ‘the stated purpose of the surge was to enable Iraq’s leaders to reconcile. Our troops fight and die in the 120 degree heat to give Iraq’s leaders *****e to agree, but they aren’t filling it.’” [Boston Globe, 9/26/08:]

    At a town hall meeting Monday, September 22, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain hit his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, on the financial crisis. ‘Sen. Obama has declined to put forth a plan of his own,’ McCain said. ‘In a time of crisis, when leadership is needed, Sen. Obama has simply not provided it.’ The Facts: Obama has said several times since the recent Wall Street meltdown that, in meeting with top economists, he was encouraged to not roll out a specific plan for fear of overly politicizing work of the Congress on a government bailout of financial firms. He has, however, offered ideas for the plan — including limiting pay for executives of businesses that are bailed out by the government and making sure the effort includes a specific plan for the money to be repaid. Verdict: Misleading. Obama has voiced specific ideas about the bailout plan and McCain’s campaign has taken a ‘wait and see’ stance similar to Obama’s.” [CNN, 9/22/08:]

    “The effort to convince voters that Sen. Barack Obama would support higher taxes is a central part of Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign. McCain and the Republican National Committee have repeatedly cited 94 alleged votes by Obama to bolster their argument. Factcheck.org, a non-partisan project of the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, pieced through records to determine just what these 94 votes were… Annenberg says a close look at the record reveals that Obama has ‘voted consistently to restore higher tax rates on upper-income taxpayers but not on middle- or low-income workers.’ Verdict: Misleading. McCain’s summary ignores the fact that some of the votes were for measures to lower taxes for many Americans, while increasing them for a much smaller number of taxpayers. A nonpartisan examination also finds that the 94 total includes multiple votes on the same measures and budget votes that would not directly lead to higher taxes.” [CNN, 9/21/08:]

    Maybe these lies is the reason John McCain couldn’t face barack Obama or that camera to millions of Americans perhaps.

    Michelle Obama is a tall, sexy, intelligent and accomplished woman. She would make a great First Lady. On one hand I want Obama to win, but on the other hand, the next president will have a tremendous job on his hands to staighten out the mess made by previous administrations. He will no doubt face heavy criticicism and scrutiny because he will be starting in a difficult position given the economy and war in Iraq. On Palin: how could McCain screw up his VP pick that bad? They are literally hiding Palin from the media to keep her from publicly making ignorant, hair brained comments.

  59. WhatsYoursIsMine-Needs to Shake Things Up a Little

    An Op Ed piece I found on Huffington Post (written by a white, married couple) about the Obama’s relationship. I have to say I agree with this a great deal.

    =================================================================

    One of the greatest benefits of an Obama presidency is hidden in plain sight: the relationship between Michelle and Barack. They provide a great role model of a healthy relationship, at a time when such models are sorely needed.

    For example…

    Imagine having a president who is not distracted from the nation’s business by the stresses of secrets in the presidential marriage.

    Imagine having a president who likes his partner and values her as an equal, a president who touches his wife affectionately in public and actually listens to her when she talks!

    Fortunately we don’t have to imagine it, because we already have that potential at the tip of our voting fingers. For Americans, one of the most important aspects of an Obama presidency is being overlooked: the model of a healthy relationship. In the 28 years of our own marriage, we’ve worked with more than 4,000 couples in our office and seminars, so we have a reasonably good idea of what kinds of behavior one sees in a healthy relationship. For example, Michelle and Barack do something we’ve never seen before in a presidential couple: they actually look directly at each other when they’re speaking to each other. They also laugh at each other’s humor, and they allow their sexual attraction for each other to be visible. Contrast that with other presidential marriages, in which the sexual attraction to each other was not visible but their sexual attraction to others became highly visible. Michelle and Barack talk openly about their feelings for each other. They’re real.

    Why would their relationship be a benefit to the American public and the world at large? The main reason is that it would be genuinely useful to have a visible, public role model of what a healthy relationship looks like. Over the last fifty years there’s been a parade of not-so-great relationship models in the White House. They range from idol-worship (Nancy’s perpetually-adoring glaze, oops we mean gaze, at Ronnie) to the sternly maternal façade of the first Mrs. Bush. We’ve witnessed White House marriages strained to the breaking point by secrets. The country lost 50 million dollars and a year of the government’s focus because one president actually did have sex with “that woman” but wouldn’t tell us the truth until he was outed by DNA.

    How about Camelot? Many of us were fooled into thinking the Kennedys were the very picture of a Perfect Relationship. There was a handsome, rich Prince with knockout hair, coupled with a doll-Princess whose faraway smile and breathy, little-girl voice made her seem heaven-sent. Unfortunately, it was all just a fantasy. In reality, John was a serial philanderer and Jackie was a chain-smoker who swore like a sailor and dropped the little-girl voice the moment she walked off-stage. There’s no way to measure the productivity that was lost because the president’s staff had to earn part of their government salaries ushering women in and out of the White House, all with exquisite timing (and with the look-the-other-way collusion of the media.)

    However, you don’t have to go back in that far in history to see a strange or strained White House marriage. Have you ever seen the current occupant of the White House speak, much less listen, to his wife in public? For example, do we ever get to hear from the real Laura Bush, the one who disagrees completely with the far-right views of her husband on such matters as women’s reproductive rights? No, because she’s been muzzled, like most of her predecessors, and sealed off behind the glazed smile of the Perfect Presidential Wife.

    It’s high time we got to see an honest, loving, real relationship in the White House. If you’re like us, you probably don’t want to spend the next four years hearing how much the perfectly-coiffed Mrs. McCain has spent on her outfit, which of their nine houses they’re weekending at or which of their thirteen cars they’re wheeling around in. There’s something bigger to worry about, though. If the actuarial tables have any predictive value, a McCain presidency would soon become a Palin presidency, and that is a scenario truly frightening to contemplate.

    President Palin would be desperately trying to comprehend and handle business during one of the most trying times in our nation’s history, while taking care of a special needs baby, riding herd on pregnant teenagers, foul-mouthed hockey-jock son-in-laws and other household dramas. On the brighter side, a Palin White House would provide one exciting possibility for our increasingly tabloid-obsessed culture: the perfect capstone for Jerry Springer’s career! He would make an ideal Chief of Staff or Sergeant-At-Arms, charged with keeping the gun-totin’, hockey-stick-wielding clan from wrecking the furniture (and each other) or blowing away a moose for sport on the White House lawn.

    Here’s a better idea: Elect Barack Obama. That way, we get the gift of seeing two people having an easeful friendship with each other. We get as a role model two people who communicate with each other as equals and stand beside each other as true partners. If we elect Barack Obama we are electing a new possibility in our relationship lives as a nation: respect, affection and authenticity. Michelle and Barack speak clearly and openly. You know she won’t bull***** you or embarr***** you by playing the demure little wife. We’re ready to see that kind of relationship, and we hope you are, too. The question is: are we as a nation ready to end our national addiction to duplicity, phony adoration and Stepford wifedom in the White House? If not, we’re going to get what we deserve.

    We have a chance now to make a real difference in the world. If we elect Barack Obama, we can all focus on the critical challenges that must be met now. Speaking personally, we feel a sense of warmth and pride when we think about the support and love the Obamas have for each other. We breathe easier when we see how they live their lives with balance, honesty and clarity. They’re the real deal. In November, let’s give ourselves this new mirror of our own value.

    @shavon denise

    You bring up some great points. As black women, we do face the double whammy of racism and sexism. We’re also faced with a litany of negative images and perceptions, some of which have surfaced during this campaign.

    There have been so many offensive references and mischaracterizations of Michelle that a site, www(dot)michelleobamawatch(dot)com, was created to catalogue negative media mentions. Fox News referred to her as a “baby mama.” She was depicted as a gun-toting militant on the cover of the New Yorker. She has been painted as unpatriotic and angry. She has been subjected to a level of scrutiny that her Republican counterpart, Cindy McCain, who has her own past problems, has largely escaped.

    This is part of what endears me to Michelle even more. To me, she represents many of the struggles of sisters, as well as the triumphs. If she becomes the first black first lady, that will have a tremendous impact on many of us, not only how we view ourselves, but, perhaps, how our community and the world views us. I see her, and I see a woman who confidently defies all the debilitating stereotypes that have been thrust upon us. She makes me proud.

  64. Alaskan Hockey Moms for Obama speak out against Troopergate:

    An open letter to the GOP:

    As GOP lawmakers sue to impede the Troopergate investigation, I call on all Alaskans, and every US citizen to stand up and sign this petition to require lawmakers to continue the Troopergate investigation, without delays or conditions of any kind.

    Sorry McCain and Palin, we’re not waiting until after the election to find out if you are guilty of abusing your power. We have a right to know the facts before you ask Americans to cast our trust in you at the ballots. We have suffered enough the last 8 years and we are drawing the line here. You can’t “reform” Washington by killing by killing a bipartisan investigation – claiming the Democrats have tainted it – because it inconveniences you and your campaign.

    The Anchorage Daily News article September 21, 2008, explains Troopergate. Read it so you know what’s going on in Alaska and how the McSame machine has bullied it’s way into Alaska to stall an Alaskan investigation! Palin has turned her back on Alaskans and she’ll do it to the rest of nation too! Same old Bush tactics! This is a hint of what to expect if McSame and Palin get voted into office.

    What are you hiding?

    If you are the true “reformers” you claim to be, stand up and face this investigation with honor and dignity. It’s what a reformer would do. That is, unless, you are admitting to abuse of power and misleading millions of Americans into believing you are the anti-establishment change agent you convinced your base that you were at the Convention.

    Athletes practice their entire lives for a single opportunity at the Olympics. If they get caught using a drug or an unapproved performance enhancer, they don’t get to finish the Olympics. And their use of performance enhancers has no influence on National Security, public policy, the economy or human rights.

    So if you really are innocent of theses charges and you want to convince Americans you have what it takes to turn Washington politics around… Here’s your first real chance to lead reform by example and face this investigation honestly and transparently.

  65. WordtotheWise

    Hmmmm, looks like some of the “brothas” (I say that sarcastically) are *****ed because they couldn’t pull a woman like Michelle. Kim K is more their speed. Don’t be mad; when you’re on top of your game like Obama, you don’t have a problem pulling top of the line women.

  66. cmoney22

    she is not the hottest chick in the game. she is an OK lookin older lady at best. Now sarah palin nw she is hard. obama wont win this election either. the only ppl that will vote for him is black fols and college students. he isnt intelligent at ll he stutters and said he will vistit all 57 states yes he said 57 what a dumb *****

  67. Kesha: 2-2 Deuce is BACK! (I BLEED BLACK-N-GOLD)

    I think just the fact that there are REPUBLICANS out there that want her to step down is strengthening Obama’s chances. I hope it keeps up! And Biden will TEAR her azz to shreds this week. Can’t wait!!!

  68. I love that Huffington Post! On point! Thank you, whatsyourismine! :)

  69. jonjon23

    Michelle Obama is not ugly—she just doesnt fit the black-brainwashed image of beauty. You know; features resembling those of a European. She also is a woman of substance meaning she can have a positive impact on some of you (and your children) that hate your blackness, and show you its okay to embrace who you are.

  70. Kesha: 2-2 Deuce is BACK! (I BLEED BLACK-N-GOLD)

    I think everyone has their own definition of beauty. Why do some people have to come on here and convince others that Michelle is NOT attractive. Dammit, if i think she is, then that MY opinion. I’m not trying to convince YOU that she’s pretty. You’re entitled to your own opinion as am I. All that, Yall must be blind BS…GTFOH! Dammit, to me she represents the epitome of beauty(inside and out). Kick rocks HATERS…and i LOVE the dress too! Its fitting Nah!

  71. Javon

    I can not beleive that anyone would even compare Michelle Obama and Sarah Palin. The level of cl***** is no where near parallel. Michelle is the hottest chick in their game, not just based on looks, she has the whole package.

  72. Michelle looks betters in solid, earth tone colors. That dress should be burned.

  73. WhatsYoursIsMine-Needs to Shake Things Up a Little

    @Sydney-I love Michelle Obama Watch!

    And to I’m Voting for Obama Biden: You’re welcome! I just like seeing that come from an older couple who’s been married for years. It gives me hope, and I get teased for hanging around married folks. I enjoy having single friends, but being around married people eases my heart and my spirit because I know that great, loving families in my age group exist.

  74. Michelle is ok looking. She ain’t the prettiest but she ain’t ugly. She do look good in these pics though.

  75. Oshie (Jazmine Sullivan wishes she was Lauren Hill)

    I don’t know, I like her dress. It’s cl*****y and appropriate and not the typical pantsuit.

  76. Dame

    I love flowers Go Michelle

  77. BE

    I don’t know why everybody keeps saying Palin is pretty she look like an old beauty queen has been. She has soo many wrinkles…but America has a strange standard of beauty. White women could look a mess in the face and black people will co-sign with others that she is fine A black woman can not been seen as beautiful unless she has white features.

    Palin can’t touch Michelle in brains or beauty….pppplleea*****eee!!!!!

  78. Sydney

    @Man, I just don’t care

    *sigh*

    To those commenting on Michelle’s looks (like that’s relevant), Obama has repeatedly commented on his wife’s appeal. He finds her beautiful. He was drawn to her when they met and worked to woo her. His face lights up when she embraces him after one of his speeches. He recognizes that she is his “rock.”

    From a Chicago Sun-Times article:

    And Michelle Obama said in a recent TV interview that her husband remains “very romantic.” The couple have date nights — that often include the kids. Their Father’s Day “date” was at Roy’s, a River North eatery that features “Hawaiian fusion” cuisine.

    Even after nearly 16 years of marriage, he frequently gives her flowers. Sen. Obama has been known to surprise his wife with a downtown spa package.

    Yvonne Davila, a close friend of Michelle Obama’s, says the couple’s relationship may sound kind of Pollyanna-like, but at its core, it’s a “great marriage.”

    “These are two people who love each other,” Davila said. “For me, more importantly, there’s a huge respect on both ends.”

  79. STOP TRIPPING!

    i support obama but michelle is ugly. she looks better at a distance than she does up close. she looks like aunt ester. also, obama is rumored to be bisexual. there are gay men who swear that he is. please don’t believe the hype about their marriage. she’s an ugly black woman who is happy to have a man. if you think that i’m lying, google obama down low and see what you get!

  80. Just Sit and Be Pretty

    Sydney @1:18, I agree!! LOL, I love Michelle, but when she walked out in that dress, I said to my friend, “what in the fugly floral frock hell is she wearing”? Her stylist missed it this time, but that’s okay, she’s usually so well put together that we’ll forgive this outfit.:-)

    @diva…your daughter is a cutie patootie!! BTW, are you gonna be affected with this latest bank takeover? I hope not…

    I don’t think that’s what you meant … at least I hope that’s not what you meant.

    I just wanted to educate you a little so this doesn’t happen again:

    > – this is greater than

    < – this is less than

    BTW, I’m not trying to put you down. I just needed to clear that up because you were actually supporting that ignorant idiot that comes on here saying things he/she wouldn’t say to your face.

    Nice try. There is a guy who went around saying Obama picked him up in a limo and they took drugs and had s e x. The guy turned out to be a fraud. And you know that if it were true, The Republicans wouldn’t have even tried to save it for an October surprise. They’d have rather gone up against Hillary and destroyed her.

  87. Sydney

    @Man, I just don’t care

    I don’t know. . .you’re a special one, indeed.

    @Just Sit and Be Pretty

    OK, the dress isn’t one of my favorites either, but she’s usually on point. :)

    Some of these comments are over the line, though. This poised and sophisticated sister may be our next First Lady, not a contestant in a beauty pageant. I’m sure she, as well as Barack, are being called every name in the book on non-black sites. Can she not be given a modi***** of respect here?

  88. Just Sit and Be Pretty

    Stop tripping, how insipid and stupid you and all the others sound who are making negative comments about her looks. This woman is so well put together that her accomplishments, personality, etc. far outweigh her physical. Michelle Obama has got it going on…period!!

  89. dayg715

    love michelle, but that dress is almost as ugly as sarah palin!

    and yes, even the conservatives want that trailer trash ho to sit down and step off the campaign.

    Notice how, whenever black folks on these blogs, support Obama the first thing they say is what or how the Obama’s represent the black community. As if, that’s the only importance to them. SMDH. Sometimes I really find it hard to believe that black people aren’t just colorstruck idiots that don’t know how to think for themselves.

    Why is it a major factor that Barack & Michelle display a positive image for black folks? Even if Barack does make it to the White House it won’t change any of the negros that act up or don’tknow right from wrong. I just don’t understand why ‘we’ as black folks make such a big deal out of ‘image’ and how that ‘image’ affects ‘the black community’?

    Instead of, getting so caught up in the election, black folks need to be concerned w/ their own communities & not about “B-A-R-A-C-K-I-N-G the V-O-T-E”!

    @Angel Minded….I see your point about being “colorstruck,” but your statement contradicted itself (I say this most respectfully).

    If black people are happy someone is representing their community, than let them. It’s time someone in a major political position stand up for African-Americans, who have been neglected for far too long by the political system. And we should be concerned about “B-A-R-A-C-K-I-N-G the vote…” This is an important time in our country and it comes once every four years.

  107. shavon denise

    @ Sydney:

    Well said. I couldnt agree with you more. I feel like people just dont get or just dont care if Mrs. Obama be treated badly. McCain’s wife isnt getting any negative press. As a country we have to deal with these issues head on because at the end of the day, all those people at Fox News were raised in a culture in which discrimination, no matter how concealed, was accepted. Hey, we cant change everyone’s ideas and prejudices because they are deep and embedded but we can change how we handle it and I feel like the Obama’s are a perfect example of that.

    @Man, I just don’t care

    Yup, you did, Mr. “Michelle isn’t the ugliest.” SMH.

    And she’s not a “wifey,” she’s the man’s wife.

    But here’s my question : Do you really think he’ll stand up for the black community?

    Do you believe that just because he’s black that he’s obligated to do for his own?

    Obama has courted the Latina/Jew/Working blue collar/& women vote. Notice how he hasn’t courted the black vote. During all these other courtships he has stated what he intends to do for them. But he has yet to address any of the concerns that specifically target the black community. Unlike other black people, I’m not gonna *****ume, that just because he’s black he’ll do for me or any other black person for that matter. If he can target the Latina’s, working blue collars, women etc., then he can clear up what he plans to do for black people.

  117. Sydney

    @JSABP

    Oh, boy, the House Republicans are behind this, I’m sure. This will impact the overseas markets as well.

    OK, politically, what can this mean for McCain? I read reports that the failure of a bailout package could reflect badly on him.

  118. SMDH

    BTW: That pretty much lets me know that “strong black man” is 6AM cause he’s the only ***** smelling wet ***** ***** ***** who will pretend to be me!!!

  119. Angel_Minded

    Also..it offends me that Obama tries to seperate himself from black people. It’s like he doesn’t even acknowledge us or our concerns because he already knows (or @ least thinks) that he has the black vote. It’s so unreal to me. Like just because I’m black I’m automatically gonna support him. he must really think all black folks are simple & have a herd mentality mindset. Like we can’t individually think on our own.

  120. Sydney

    Angel-Minded

    Obama is heavily courting the black vote — in fact, his efforts have been written about in several publications.

    More on today’s vote. This could be very bad:

    What was supposed to be a 15-minute vote stretched past the half-hour mark as leadership scrambled for support. Investors who had been counting on the rescue plan sent the Dow Jones industrial average down as much as 700 points while watching the measure come up short of the necessary support, before rebounding slightly. The key stock reading was down more than 500 points.

    The measure needs 218 votes for p*****age. Democrats voted 141 to 94 in favor of the plan, while Republicans voted 65 to 133 against. That left the measure with 206 votes for and 227 against.

  124. Sydney

    Angel-Minded

    Obama addressed the CBC on Saturday. The below excerpt is from a story in Sunday’s Washington Post on Mississippi:

    “Early on, the Obama campaign held up Mississippi as an example of a state where a huge black turnout — 37 percent of the population is African American — could drive an unexpected victory. But those hopes faded quickly, and the deep-rooted doubt that some here have suggests the challenge for Obama in other states, such as Virginia and North Carolina, where the Democrat is counting on a swell of African American support to put him over the top.”

    The Wall Street Journal also ran a story 2-3 months ago on the campaign to target black voters, but I can’t locate it at the moment.

    If you visit www(dot)barackobama(dot)com, you will find a section targeting African Americans and their issues.

    My, isn’t this interesting?

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — After bragging today about his role in shaping the economic bailout package, Sen. John McCain has made no statement to the press since the defeat of the bill, in part at the hands of House Republicans.

    McCain boarded his Straight Talk Air charter plane a few minutes ago, but the plane has not taken off yet. McCain is in the front of the plane, separated from reporters by a brown curtain

    Aides to McCain have not characterized his reaction to the bills defeat. On Sunday, he said he would “swallow hard” but vote for the plan, which he said was better than originally proposed.

    Reporters have not been told whether McCain will still travel to Des Moines, Iowa, or return to Washington to deal with the aftermath of the bill’s defeat.

    Why are you being so hostile? I made my comments based on information that I’ve either heard or read. The info that, that poster posted was not publicized at all. But it’s quite ironic that NY Times/CNN/ etc., never miss a beat when he’s courting other minorities. So I still stand by my comments. Regardless of what speeches Obama has said or given, specifically aimed @ black folks, those speeches still weren’t publicized nor vocal enough! It’s sad that the first black (potential) president is running, yet everytime I open up a newspaper I only see & read info on what he plans to do for every other ethnic group instead of AA’s.

    Just because I don’t agree on Obama’s tactics doesn’t mean that I need to support McCain. In fact your whole hostile attitude towards anyone that opposes Obama will be the # 1 reason why he’ll probably lose in November. How in the hell are Democrats trying to form unity when anytime anyone has any disagreements w/ Obama we’re casted down.

    The Democratic Party is divided, and Obama supporters are the # 1 cause of this!

    Hey Sydney, and all political-minded folk:

    Have you all read where Barack is going to head back to Washington on Thursday to vote on the bailout plan, and John McCain’s campaign said he’ll “try to make it”?

    WTF?! How can John McCain say he’s going to suspend his campaign because of the economic crisis, now he wants to not vote on the topic he’s supposed to be there for. After all this grandstanding?!

  151. cutie pie*kindly putting people on blast est.1985*We are officially in the sun sign of Libra!!!! Time to rejoice :)

    hey man!! :)

  152. Sydney

    WhatsYoursIsMine

    Yes, I did read that about McCain, and I posted a blurb from the Washington Post about his lack of a statement. Hmm. . .and he claims Obama was missing in action? All his theatrics from last week could bit McCain in his you-know-what.

    Check this out from The New Republic blog. The political implications could be very severe:

    (Bail)Out of Control

    Well, the bailout plan was rejected in the House of Representatives by a vote of 228-205. And, gasp, the markets are tanking.

    Prediction: Voting against this thing is not going to be the political winner that some have speculated opposition would be. Already, there is evidence that the plan was becoming more popular. And expect support to rise further now that the economy will be in even more dire straits.

    As for McCain, this is very, very bad news. He failed to convert the House GOP, and the stock market is in a tailspin.

    Update…from those always amusing House Republicans:

    Representative Darrell Issa, a Republican, said he was “resolute” in his opposition to the measure because it would betray party principles and amount to “a coffin on top of Ronald Reagan’s coffin.”

  158. Sydney

    WhatsYoursIsMine

    This campaign is really surreal. Reportedly, there is no additional bailout vote scheduled today. Most of the Republicans voted against the package — for which McCain is claiming credit for corralling Republican support. Now that it has failed, what is he going to do?

    And, today, Newt Gingrich, one of my favorite conservatives (sarcasm), said this about the Bush administration: “The Bush administration has now provided three case studies in arrogance, isolation and destructiveness: Michael Brown during Hurricane Katrina, Amb*****ador Jerry Bremer in Baghdad and Secretary [Henry] Paulson at Treasury,” Gingrich said. “It is a tragic and very expensive legacy. No conservative and no Republican should doubt how much it has hurt our cause and our party.”

    I would have never expected these words to come out of Newt’s mouth. . .What’s next?

  159. maddzzu (Not just cause hez black cause hez BLACK & QUALIFIED!!!!!)

    I HONESTLY THINK OBAMA SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE AGRESSIVE N TORE OLD WRINKLES A NEW ONE; YET AGAIN I KNOW HE DIDNT WANT TO APPEAR AS DA ANGRY BLACK GUY; can i say it now??? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS WE CAN!!!

  160. Sydney

    I just got my answer. . .McCain put out a statement blaming Obama for the bailout rejection. Complete malarky.

    I think Frank Rich was right when he wrote in yesterday’s NY Times that McCain may be the first presidential candidate to be responsible for “wrecking” the nation before he is voted into office. And blaming Obama instead of his own recklessness won’t change that.

  161. WhatsYoursIsMine

    @Sydney-

    I believe Newt, like other conservatives, are trying to establish their own legacy and (slightly) distance themselves from W.

    And speaking of W., I can’t wait to see the movie!

  162. Sydney

    @WhatsYoursIsMine

    Yes, most Republicans are trying to distance themselves from Bush. He truly is a party pariah.

    I can’t wait for the movie, either, but I’m curious about Thandie Newton’s portrayal of Condi. When it was announced that she would play her, I couldn’t see it. I love Jeffrey Wright, so I would like to see him as Colin Powell.

  163. WhatsYoursIsMine

    @Sydney-

    Thandie Newton? Really?!

    Girl, Colin Powell could play Colin Powell. I’d throw myself at him at the premier. I’ve had a thing for him since I was in the 6th grade.

  164. Sydney

    @WhatsYoursIsMine

    LMAO! Girl, Colin Powell is an attractive brother in an older statesman kind of way. . .His wife might fight you for him, though, lol. I’m waiting for him to write his memoir, so I can scoop it up.

    Yes, girl, Thandie Newton, who looks nothing like Condi, IMHO, is going to play her in the movie. I can see how they can transform Jeffrey Wright into Powell, but I don’t know about this one. . .

  165. they look so nice together,white house is going to be blessed with the most beautiful people.

    I can see Thandie getting her accent down, and them darkening her skin, but she doesn’t have that Condi body, slim but fit. Thandie’s a little too small.

    @WhatsYoursIsMine

    Yeah, Thandie’s body type isn’t quite the same — well, she’s a good actress, so I’ll wait until I see the movie.

    I read on a blog that Chris Matthews came down really hard on the GOP today about the bailout vote, by the way. Hardball should be good today.

  170. Sydney

    WhatsYoursIsMine, did you see this on the Huffington Post?

    A prominent GOP strategist said on Monday that John McCain handled his role in the bailout process poorly and would ultimately be hurt politically by the failure of the House of Representatives to p***** the measure.

    “To a certain extent, I think John gets hurt by this,” said Ed Rollins, a CNN contributor who worked on former Gov. Mike Huckabee’s primary campaign earlier this cycle. “He obviously, at the end of the day, said he was for it. But more important than that, he said he was the one who would bring them to the table and to a certain extent he will be viewed now as not being able to do that.”

  171. WhatsYoursIsMine

    @Sydney-

    I believe he will be hurt by this, you can’t turn around and blame Barack by this. I find it funny that McCain, and his supporters, are always saying things are Barack’s fault, yet he doesn’t have enough experience. For a man with no experience, that means he never set foot onto the floor for a vote, so how can it be his fault?!

  172. Just Sit and Be Pretty

    @Angel…Why are you being so hostile? I made my comments based on information that I’ve either heard or read.

    ____

    No Angel, don’t back track now. You initially came on here “trying” to insult the intelligence of Bossip posters and as a result made some generalizations and comments that I thought were dumb…and I merely pointed that out. “Now”, if you’re saying that you posted what you read elsewhere or posted comments made by others, then here’s a news flash, every once in a while an original thought is welcomed here…;-)

    And please don’t use what you perceive as “hostility” as some kind of scapegoat or influence on how folks are gonna vote. Ummm, I don’t think I have that much power.

    And about the question–I’m sure all of us will somewhat be affected by the Wachovia take over. Gratefully- I won’t be directly affected in a major way.

    I saw the article on CNN about the takeover–MAN!!!!!!!!!

    Those people pretty much worked around the clock to try to sort out all of the Wachovia details!!!

    If all reports are true, it looks as if they were bought for 2.2 BILLION dollars! Somehow, I would’ve thought Wachovia was in more control of their finances. I know there are a lot of banks that are suffering and struggling to stay alfoat but who would’ve thought Wachovia would be one to go under??

    I guess they “put all their eggs in one basket” in thinking that they would make a huge and long term profit with the mortgage industry.

    I’m thinking (as I type this) that the hand writting was on the wall.

    They just didn’t see it coming.

    I attempted to post my thoughts but for some reason, BOSSIP gave me an error message.

    In all honestly–I’m grateful that the buyout won’t affect me directly and in a major way.

    I do have some minor investments with Wachovia but from what I can tell–Citicorp is taking over those responsibilities (and debts) as well. I was amazed at all of those people working around the clock this weekend to iron out the specifics in regards to the takeo….uh…I mean buy-out!

    Lol!!!

    The handwriting BEEN on the wall!! Wachovia just didn’t take the time to read it. IMO–what directly affected the need for the buyout was the way Wachovia put so much monetary emphasis on homeloans and the likes. They didn’t have a back up plan.

    THis is one of many that we’ll read about!

    Your comments are on point!! They both spark up when they look at each other… you can feel their energy. That is a genuine love affair, that seems to have gotten better with time. I love them together, and even though I’ve had my share of lustful thoughts about President (to be) Obama, I would beat ANY woman down that tried to lure him from Michelle. lol…

    I have to add… that dress is not very flattering. :( I know she’s being loyal to this Chicago designer, but she can cut the purse strings now. He (or she) has gotten enough pub from her.
