Love, Love, Love Erykah Badu. Very much I am an unconditional listener of hers. Nobody is perfect, she obviously has some issues that she is going through.
@Blaq,

Honestly, you are boring the hell out of me. You are chasing your tail and thus forcing me to chase my own tail. Nothing of what I said was objectionable but instead of you saying, yeah, great advice, you do what is so typical of black women: What about the men?

Going in circles produce dizzy ass women.

Ok, I can go outside of my door right now to where all the gangstas and the dope boys hang out. Why are there so many women there with them? Why do they have groupies? Because there are a bunch of females who celebrate the thug lifestyle. Men are thugs because, in addition to the fast money it brings, it also brings fast women.

The men will follow the changes women make. Stop turning it around on them. And NO: YOUR SEXUAL HEALTH IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. YOU WILL BE LIVING WITH THE BABY OR THE DISEASE. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE AND STOP TRYING TO SPREAD THE RESPONSIBILITY TO ALL AND SUNDRY.

And the black woman I describe are not a minority. I am offering one sided solutions because I am a black woman speaking as a black woman to other black women.

If your response to any and every criticism is: What about the men?

We are so lost, irreparably lost.

"I still love you sistah, but your ways are ugly."

The reality is even uglier.

I have lost respect for Erykah. While I applaud single mothers for raising their children by themselves, this is ridiculous.

To keep proudcing children out of wedlock with different men is irresponsible. It sends the wrong expample for the children.

@Nine Knows,

I am not talking about a race of black women. I am talking about black women in the Western world, particularly those in America where the problems are most acute. Now if your response to me is to hit rewind and play. Not interested. Appreciate it if you would deal with the substance of what I am saying instead of bobbing and weaving. No pun intended if you wear a weave.

When you have children it isnt the time to be a "individual." Be an individual when you are single and childless. When you marry or have children it stops being about ME and starts being about WE.

@Kigali

The one true issue of our community is the lack of respect, commitment and unity. Our community is plagued with self-righteous individual who spout all the problems and none of the solutions. Single parenthood started way before Erykah Badu and is not only the responsibility of the woman, and this is a shared issue, babies are not made by women alone, there are men who figure into this issue. Men who have not enough respect for themselves to create families for their children, it's easy to say women wait until you get married, but where is the suggestion for brothers to create families. Are these single mothers single by choice or in relationships with men who don't feel marriage is necessary for their union. Most mothers intend, hope, plan to be in a relationship with their children's fathers, but unfortunately this does not work out. The divorce rate is 60%, people do not have the commitment to marriage there once was. The real issue is the fact there is no respect for children, we do not have pride in our own future. Children born out of wedlock are considered unworthy and burdens, this has to change every black child is precious, the first black president of the U.S. is a product of a single mother, so is Jesse Jackson (who is of the grandfather generation) is also a product of a single parent, along with Malcolm X, and many other black significant black people. The message in your gravi lets me know you have no idea as to what the solution is.
