Local Yokel Sarah Palin and Joe Biden duked it out at last night’s one and only vice presidential debate. Ms. I-can-see-Russia-from-my-house attempted to dismiss the fact that the republicans are directly responsible for the the no-end-in-sight war and the financial turmoil over here. She said:
“Enough is enough with looking backward and playing the blame game,” Palin said in response to a question about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. “There’s a time, too, when Americans are gonna say, ‘Enough is enough,’ with your ticket constantly looking backwards and pointing fingers and doing the blame game. There have been huge blunders in the war, there have been huge blunders throughout this administration, as there are with any administration, but for a ticket that wants to talk about change and looking into the future, there’s just too much finger-pointing backwards to ever make us believe that that’s where you’re going.”
Bidden hit back hard, splaying the facts as such:
It was two Mondays ago John McCain said at 9 o’clock in the morning that the fundamentals of the economy were strong,” Biden said. “Two weeks before that, he said George – we’ve made great economic progress under George Bush’s policies. Nine o’clock, the economy was strong. Eleven o’clock that same day, two Mondays ago, John McCain said that we have an economic crisis. That doesn’t make John McCain a bad guy, but it does point out he’s out of touch.”
After much back and forth action, Joe Bidden wrapped it up with this:
“John McCain was saying the Sunnis and Shias got along with each other without reading the history of the last 700 years. John McCain said there would be enough oil to pay for this. John McCain has been dead wrong. I love him. As my mother would say, ‘God love him,’ but he’s been dead wrong on the fundamental issues relating to the conduct of the war. Barack Obama has been right. There are the facts.”
The truth is a fire under that @ss and McCain’s whole click is feeling the heat. They’re sweating like a gang of whores in church. YES WE CAN!!!!!!

Just because someone can debate well, doesn’t mean that they’ll make an effective President.
Many people tends to get “dazzled” by this. Some people can interview for a job really well, but do a lousy job once they get it. Being a great interviewer is more like being an actor….looking good….being well spoken and somewhat knowledgeable about the subject, but it doesn’t mean that the person will do the job well.

Her debate was coached and scripted as if she was reading a speech on McCain policies..How in the hell can you be fit to lead when you can’t answer questions about our economy or our nation, I felt like that was completely unfair..I’m sorry that hockey mom girl next door ***** don’t fly with me when you’re talking about being next in line to be president..All I seen last night was a woman who can give a speech, talk a game of bull***** and charm the camera.
Biden handled himself like a pro he was very well informed on everything that was thrown at him..I hope people aren’t stupid enough to play into her “regular ole mom” routine..It should be even more clear now than ever that Palin is not fit to be in the white house..And if women believe that she scored one for the girls you truly have low expectations.

Biden did fine by not getting in her face or getting angry. He basically ignored her. Most Americans (mainly Democrats) tuned in just to hear her say stupid crap. This debate doesn’t even matter. McCain might gain a percentage or two but it won’t be anything lasting or significant.
October and early November are the worst months for nasty political tricks. Don’t let anything sway you from voting Obama.

Biden won that debate hands down. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the “folksy-ness” of Palin. I prefer my executive branch leaders to sound like lawyers than to sound like hillbilly’s saying foolishness like “Garsh Darnit, Joe Sixpak, Gee Wiz,” to me she wasn’t coming on MY level she stooped beneath me. I am an educated black woman and I need clear answers to clear questions, imagine if she was black woman saying, “Lawd Hamercy, Whateva man, all da homies” they would kick her so far to curb it wouldn’t even be a question.
Her debate bootcamp was not a success. If I went to Arizona for a week and did nothing but study and have mock debates then I would have done a better job. Her problem is that she feels the rest of this country is like Alaska. We are not, we are more polished, even those of us in the hood are more polished then these hillbilly’s. Once again the Republicans have under-estimated the “Continental” Americans.

I thought last night’s debate was one of the most interesting ones I’ve watched in a while. I think the bar was set so low for Palin that she handily exceeded expectations and her supporters, particularly conservatives, were more than satisfied. On the hand, those who were already skeptical, including myself, did not walk away having their doubts allayed. While Palin was charming and engaging and winked at the camera with abandon, she avoided questions, gave generalities rather than specifics, and clearly gave well-rehe*****d answers. Biden, on the other hand, showed the depth of his experience and knowledge, and I liked his sharing of plan specifics on the economy, Iraq, and other key issues.
According to the polls last night and this morning, Palin helped restore her image, but Biden was the clear victor:
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. said 51 percent of those polled thought Biden did the best job, while 36 percent thought Palin did the best job.
And from CBS:
Immediately after the vice presidential debate, CBS News interviewed a nationally representative sample of nearly 500 debate watchers, *****embled by Knowledge Networks, who were “uncommitted voters” – voters who are either undecided about who to vote for or who have a preference but say they could still change their minds.
Forty-six percent of these uncommitted viewers said Biden won the debate Thursday night, while 21 percent said Palin won. Thirty-three percent thought it was a tie.
I’m ready for Tuesday’s second debate between Obama and McCain. The issue is the economy, so this should be very interesting, particularly given today’s dismal unemployment report.

Hey Aunt Viv! I think last night’s debate was good, but in the grand scheme of the campaign, it wasn’t a “game-changer,” as the pundits like to say. Both Palin and Biden exceeded expectations — I was so glad that Biden restrained himself and didn’t do anything that could have been perceived as condescending. I also thought it was touching when he choked up when he talked about his family.
BTW, today is Barack and Michelle’s 16th wedding anniversary

Harrison. “On Friday we ran a search in the Family Forest? of the ancestors of the senator’s mother, Ann Dunham, and as the data reached back through many centuries of recorded history, we made some surprising discoveries.”
He said the software shows Dunham had deep roots in early colonial Virginia and New England, and some extending back for many centuries into Europe.
One of Obama’s great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfathers – dating back 12 generations – was the Hon. Laurence Washington, who built Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire, England. Over the course of five centuries, the historical record shows, he became the ancestor of President George Washington, General George S. Patton, Governor Adlai Stevenson, President Jimmy Carter and Quincy Jones, Jr.
“Of course, the Hon. Laurence Washington is also the ancestor of at least a million other living people including some very famous ones, but most are everyday folks,” adds Harrison.
Obama has emerged as a favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 – giving Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton a run for her money.

According to Justice, the vice president is related to her through “the first” Richard Cheney, who came to America in the 1650’s. His granddaughter married Samuel Duvall, son of Mareen Duvall.
But is blood thicker than the partisan waters of Washington? Apparently not..
Even though Obama is related to her husband, Mrs. Cheney said she is not supporting the Illinois Democrat’s White House bid.
Reacting to the news, Obama’s campaign spokesman Bill Burton told CNN’s Dana Bash with tongue in cheek, “Obviously, ***** Cheney is sort of the black sheep of the family.”
But Obama’s family ties to the Bush administration don’t stop with Cheney. According to an article in the Chicago Sun-Times last September, Obama is also an 11th cousin of the president himself. The two share a 17th century M*****achusetts relative.

Someone mentioned somewehere here today that the VP’s job is to basically pump up and support the president, not to answer every question. For me it was so important for me to hear Sarah Palin answer questions, any question directly, because the likelihood that McCain dies in office (if elected)is high and I need to feel some comfort that his #2 is capable of stepping in.
Shoo, if he wins, I will give this man chicken soup and vitamins everyday for 4 years so he doesn’t go!!

I think Biden had no choice but to treat Palin with extreme deference. Otherwise, he would have been portrayed as condescending, and, possibly, sexist. The Republicans have done a great job of putting Palin into a cocoon that has made it difficult for people to constructively criticize her without being attacked. Did you notice how she also took a swing at the mainstream media? That was a direct punch to Couric and all the other members of the “liberal” press, so I don’t expect her to do any more interviews any time soon.

I agree with you — being shield from the media doesn’t help Palin. It makes her appear fragile and clearly out of her league. Conservatives love her, but independent voters are not gravitating to her in order to have an impact on the campaign. I think last night was more about repairing her image than going after Obama and Biden — she just wasn’t equipped to counter Biden on some key points, including McCain’s record.

Wells Fargo joined the elite club of cash-rich and hungry banks when it proposed snapping up credit-crunched Wachovia for a song.
Even as the congressional vote on the $700.0 billion financial bailout package loomed, San Francisco-based Wells Fargo (nyse: WFC – news – people ) announced that it will acquire troubled Wachovia (nyse: WB – news – people ), without any government help, in an all-stock transaction valued at $15.1 billion. The whirlwind wedding would appear to come as a surprise ending to Citigroup (nyse: C – news – people )’s brief courtship of the North Carolina-based thrift. (See “Citigroup Swallows Wachovia.”) But Citigroup may yet challenge the deal, on the grounds that it had an exclusivity agreement.
The Wells Fargo-Wachovia coupling follows a string of pairings between well-capitalized financial institutions and wobbly ones, as ordinary competitive pressures have been exacerbated by the financial crisis on Wall Street to create a market environment in which only the strong survive. I totally agree with the comments that I want my leaders to be held to a higher standard, and not just come off as the family next door. Especially if that family is obviously disfunctional. I found it interesting that she can give a “shout out” during a debate and no one called her on it, but the Obama’s give each other a pound and it’s considered some foreign terrorist move they’ve never seen before. There is a huge difference in trying to relate to your audience, and talking down to people. I don’t talk to my supervisor the same way I talk to my brother. There is a time and place for everything, and that was not the forum to be “folksy” The breaking point for me, was when Biden got emotional about the loss of a child, and she was so scripted she didn’t even have the common courtesy to acknowledge it. She was just standing there grinning from ear to ear waiting for another opportunity to use the word Maverick.

In House debate on the banker “rescue” bill, Rep. Brad Sherman told his fellow Congress critters the government will declare martial law and the stock market will drop 3,000 points if the bill is not p*****ed. “The panic-mongers were to the point of telling people the market would drop 3,000 points and there would be martial law,” said Sherman.
Sherman’s comment was not in the same context as a comment issued by Rep. Michael Burgess earlier in the week. Burgess, who appeared on the Alex Jones Show, said Pelosi threatened to invoke House rule XIII(6)(a), described as “martial law,” intended to suspend normal procedures and safeguards and thus allowing the House leadership to operate in a more authoritarian fashion. Sherman, however, said martial law would be declared on Wall Street, not in the House.
Rep. Sherman said the “exaggerated fear-mongering turned out not to be true” and the House “can draft a good bill,” regardless of the pressure put on representatives to p***** the banker bailout bill.

As well, the Military Commissions Act of 2006, codifying indefinite imprisonment of dissidents, and the National Security Presidential Directive 51, ensuring the “continuity of government” in the event of a “catastrophic emergency,” are tools the government will most *****uredly use after the economy implodes, now a foregone conclusion according to many economists.
Numerous Bilderberg *****ouncements, dutifully reported here at Infowars and Prison Planet but ignored by the larger corporate media, reveal what the global elite have in mind for us — an engineered economic crash followed by a consolidation of wealth under fire sale conditions. In order to successfully accomplish this, the elite must impose martial law and “maintain public order,” that is to say force the public to accept their terms by military force.
As the Army Times reported last month, a battle-hardened “homeland” brigade is now “going domestic” after spending time in Iraq. Palin only did better than expected because she was prepped for this debate. In her Katie Couric interview she said “I’m gonna have to get back to ya” when she couldnt answer the questions. They already knew what questions they were going to be asked.

I think its the intelligence and confidence. These two qualities are always sexy and they will make a ugly man attractive.
Joe kicked her a$$. He was on point, articulating Obama’s plans for the future. Some pundits were saying that she took him off his game in the beginning because he seemed unsure, but I didn’t see it. It was not necessary for him to come out swinging. He set the stage for his points and counterpoints. He drew attention to the fact that Palin did not provide the information Gwen was requesting. I was on the floor when he broke it down why John McCain is not a Maverick.
IMHO, he won over the undecideds when he started talking about his single fatherhood. She could not match his substantive and articulate answers, but he matched her percieved authencity. He showed in that instance that warmth and being genuine can coexist with intelligence.
Palin is likeable and charming. She is also streetwise. However, she is not knowledgeable in the subject matter that would make her a good POTUS. I do see her back on the national scene in some capacity because she is an opportunist. Right now, she is throwing the McCain camp under the bus by questioning his decision to concede Michigan in the media. She couldn’t have a private conversation with him about his strategy instead of airing her concerns in the media? It shows me that they are divided house.
I think she is setting herself up as a future player nationally with those folks in the party that cannot stand McCain. While he continues imploding in front of our eyes, she is getting the keys to the bus so that she can run over him. The woman is cold blooded and McCain is going to wish that he never met her muchless invited her to be on his ticket.

Being the underdog worked to Palin’s advantage as she clearly exceeded everyone’s expectations. And another thing you have to remember about her evasiveness, the average american doesn’t know the ‘answer’ or even where to start so I think she fooled a lot of people, to educated and informed people it was clear she was speaking from talking points. Palin won in no shape or form at the debate mainly because she did not parti*****te in the debate. She gave a series of short speeches on subjects of her own choosing. The only person doing any debating was Biden who held back tremendously for simple Sarah. He could have fair out reduced simple Sarah to tears but he didn’t. She was able to finish her series of short speeches…and that is all that can be said. She did not answer the questions.
Why was it important that she answer? Because American may not know the every detail about politics but they know when you can’t answer a question. All leaders have to exhibit leadership skills which encomp*****es answering the question, oratory skills, being confidence, intelligent, being able to think on demand. She is simply at times completely incoherent and that is where people have an issue with her. Black unemployment is 11.5% while for the general population its 6.1% ! Someone please tell me how Barack is going to solve this ! if your ***** cant go get a job it doesnt matter whether its G-Dubs or Obama in the white house. Hope and change we need are just platitudes !!

Me and and all my pplz r watching this election very closely. If we could vote I swear Obama would be a sureshot for the whitehouse. I’m not sure if y’all in the states realise how significant this election is, not only for y’all but for all black pplz around the globe. We’re hoping y’all get Obama/Biden over the line.
