Tongue-lashing and legal battles between music producer and R&B singer Mario Winans and his baby’s mother, Janel Bennett, have shed an unholy light on the Winans gospel family.
Mario — nephew of Broadway star Benjamin “BeBe” Winans and a close pal of Sean “Diddy” Combs — is a deadbeat dad four months behind on child support payments, according to his baby mama.
Bennett gets $4,500 a month from Winans, who has three other kids with his wife, Joy. But Bennett says he won’t even visit their son, Jordan. “He pays $10,000 a month for a house in New Jersey and says he’s broke,” Bennett told us. “I was homeless. I had to stay with friends in Chicago. He’s not broke, he just had a hit song with Drake.”
Winans has worked with Lil’ Kim, Destiny’s Child, Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube. He executive-produced Diddy’s new album, “Last Train to Paris,” and Trey Songz’s single, “Can’t Be Friends.”
Winans, who’s been battling Bennett in court since 2007, told us he would wire $14,000 to her over the weekend: “I take pride in my children — it is what it is — I always make sure they are taken care of.”
Mario’s mother, Vickie, a Bible-belting singer with 15 albums, has her own issues with Bennett. She raged in a 2007 e-mail, “Girl, you did not ask me when you took action and screwed Mario that day! You should have used a defense [a condom]!”
In another e-mail, Vickie said, “Nobody likes a stuck-on-themselves pretty white girl with pretty eyes that thinks the world owes them everything.”
Vickie explained her comments: “You didn’t hear our phone conversations or the e-mails she sent us! She is evil,” she cried to us.
“I was singing a concert while they were having a baby. I have nothing to do with this . . . I want to meet my grandbaby, but I’m afraid of her. She’s into all this witchcraft.
“Mario is not a deadbeat dad. He doesn’t have the money so I lent it to him to pay her. I am a good grandmother, and I love all of my grandchildren.”
