We all knew that once Lebron James took his talents to South Beach, that life for the Cleveland Cavaliers was going to be painful and difficult but DAY-UM!
The Cleveland Cavaliers have not suffered a season like they are in 2010-11 in close to 30 years. The Cavaliers have lost 23 games in a row and 24 in a row on the road. Their record is 8-41 and things are not getting any better.
The Cavaliers loss on Friday night tied the NBA record for most consecutive losses in a single season a row with two other teams. One of those teams, the Memphis Grizzlies, is the team who beat them on this night.
Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott played for the 1996 Vancouver Grizzlies team that shares that record. Now he is coaching a team that is one loss away from breaking that record.
Following back-to-back division titles in 2009 and 2010, the Cavaliers lost star player LeBron James and fired head coach Mike Brown, along with most of his coaching staff. The Cavaliers might have survived the loss of LeBron James but firing their championship caliber coaching staff has turned them into the worst team in the league.
The Cavalier’s leading scorer is Antawn Jamison, the only bright point on the offense. He is averaging 17.2 points per game and is the only person on the team worth owning in fantasy basketball leagues.
He is joined by a mishmash of players like Mo Williams (13.6 ppg, 7.1 apg), Daniel Gibson (13.3 ppg) and Anderson Varejao (9.7 rpg). The fact that no Cavaliers player is averaging double-digits in rebounds is telling.
The next team the Cleveland Cavaliers plays with a losing record is the Detroit Pistons next Wednesday. By that time there is a chance the Cavaliers will have broken their own record for futility with their 25th loss in a row.
The once mighty Cleveland Cavaliers have fallen and, regardless of whether it is because they lost LeBron James, fired Mike Brown or hired Byron Scott, they need to do something to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, there is no cure in sight.
We would say that it’s time to destroy and rebuild this entire organization, but good luck convincing other great players to come spend cold a** winters in Cleveland…
