Kicking the Habit

Barack Obama speaks on kicking the habit in the November issue of Men’s Health:

“There have been a couple of times during the campaign when I fell off the wagon and bummed one, and I had to kick it again,” Obama tells the November issue of Men’s Health. “But I figure, seeing as I’m running for president, I need to cut myself a little slack.”

The Democratic candidate, 47, has this recommendation for would-be quitters: Eliminate “certain key connections – that first cigarette in the morning, or after a meal, or with a drink,” he says.

The presidential candidate stress must be a motherf*cker. Probably needs a little more than a stogie to get through that ish. SMH.

Barack is on the upcoming Source cover as well:

    ARE WE SURPRISED BY THIS

WASHINGTON – The National Rifle Association is endorsing Republican presidential nominee John McCain despite differences with the Arizona senator on gun-show rules and campaign finance restrictions.

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and the chairman of the NRA’s political action committee planned stops Thursday in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada to talk about the move.

LaPierre said the two agree on many issues important to the group.

“He’s cast more than 60 votes in the Senate in support of the Second Amendment,” LaPierre said.

The NRA’s Political Victory Fund has spent more than $2.3 million opposing Democratic nominee Barack Obama. The chairman of the political action committee, Chris W. Cox, says its spending in the presidential race will grow to “eight figures” by Election Day. Besides ads, encouraging battleground-state gun owners to vote will be a key focus, he said.

The PAC was running an ad Thursday in USA Today accusing Obama of waffling on gun-rights issues and challenging his statements that he supports the right to bear arms. Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment but doesn’t think it precludes “some commonsense gun laws so that we don’t have kids being shot on the streets of cities like Chicago.”

The NRA PAC’s future spending will target Obama on gun issues and start publicizing the records of McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, LaPierre said. McCain’s selection of Palin was a plus, LaPierre said.

“She’s a hunter, she’s a Second Amendment supporter and she’s a tremendous asset to the ticket,” he said.

Palin, an NRA member, received an A-plus rating from the group when she ran for governor in 2006. That compares to an NRA grade in the average range for McCain in his last Senate race. McCain isn’t an NRA member.

Palin has been an NRA booster, particularly for its education and safety programs, during her career in government. As mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she used $750 from her city campaign fund to upgrade her NRA membership.

The NRA doesn’t always endorse presidential candidates. It has backed President Bush but declined to endorse Bob Dole in the 1996 race or President George H.W. Bush in 1992.

Obama has been endorsed by the American Hunters and Shooters Association, which calls itself a “mainstream group of hunters” that supports safe and responsible gun ownership.

  • mimimumbi

One thing that Pisses me off or well, it doesnt piss me off BUT i wonder why Beyonce is soooo afraid or reluctant rather to change her hair style. She has been rocking that same hair for atleast 10 yrs now. Changes the color sometimes but always goes back to the same style. I wish she would change it up abit, take a risk, she is a pretty girl she can do so much. Not hating BUT would love to see something new from her…..

  • Real Conservative

I can see it now, if Obama wins this election, one of his first stabs at solving our economic crisis will be to sell square footage on the White House lawn to the manufacturers of Newports, which will allow them to replace the American Flag with one of their large poster ads.

I support Obama, but I still think the Republicans and Democrats are one party secretly, and act together. Look at the 700 billion dollar rescue bill. They knew the public was opposed to it, but they still passed it. No matter who ends up in the White House, America is on a downward spiral.

  • I’m Just Me- Buffalo Bills (4-1): WE GOT THE CHARGERS ON THE 19th!!

WASHINGTON — After forgoing character attacks during the second presidential debate, Republican John McCain sought Wednesday to sow doubt about Democrat Barack Obama’s background and character. Obama, meanwhile, accused the McCain campaign of trying to “score cheap political points.”

Both candidates tried to play into voters’ worries about the other with a mere four weeks to go before Election Day. McCain is perceived as being weak on the economy, and Obama continued a line of attack against the veteran senator for saying recently that the fundamentals of the U.S. economy were strong.

McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, challenged Obama’s campaign claims, stressed his lack of experience and said his ideas were dangerous.

“We’ve all heard what he’s said. But it’s less clear what he’s done, or what he will do,” McCain told supporters in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

McCain’s remarks about Obama were interrupted with shouts of “socialist,” “terrorist” and “liar.”

Palin said there were too many questions about Obama’s past: “John McCain didn’t just come out of nowhere. The American people know John McCain.”

And for the second time in three days, a speaker at a Republican rally invoked Obama’s middle name, Hussein, in an apparent attempt to feed lingering fears about the Democrat’s background.

Lehigh County Republican Chairman Bill Platt twice used Obama’s middle name before McCain and Palin arrived at the campaign stop in the town of Bethlehem. The campaign quickly issued a statement saying it did not condone “this inappropriate rhetoric.”

McCain has called the use of Obama’s middle name both improper and inappropriate and once apologized after a supporter warming up a rally used it. Hussein is a common name in Muslim cultures and its use in the campaign is seen as an effort to link Obama to radical Islam even though he is a Christian. Obama’s father was a Muslim from Kenya.

Wednesday’s attacks came after Palin over the weekend repeatedly went after Obama, claiming he is close with William Ayers, a founder of the violent Vietnam-era group the Weather Underground. Obama and Ayers live in the same Chicago neighborhood and have served together on community boards.

Obama, speaking in an ABC News interview televised Wednesday night, shot back at the McCain campaign, saying they were highlighting his association with Ayers in an effort to “score cheap political points” in the final weeks before the election.

Obama said he was surprised McCain didn’t bring the attacks up at this week’s second presidential debate.

“I am surprised that, you know, we’ve been seeing some pretty over-the-top attacks coming out of the McCain campaign over the last several days, that he wasn’t willing to say it to my face. But I guess we’ve got one last debate. So presumably, if he ends up feeling that he needs to, he will raise it during the debate.”

Palin first accused Obama of “palling around with terrorists,” then recalibrated her criticism to say the lack of clarity about the Ayers-Obama relationship was a legitimate campaign issue because it speaks to Obama’s truthfulness and judgment.

Obama said Wednesday that he has said many times that Ayers “engaged in some despicable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old” and that he was an education professor at the University of Illinois when they met 10 or 15 years ago.

“The notion that somehow he has been involved in my campaign, that he is an adviser of mine, that he — I’ve palled around with a terrorist, all these statements are made simply to try to score cheap political points,” Obama said.

The return to heavily negative campaigning by the Republican ticket came as McCain, behind in the polls, gained no ground following Tuesday night’s debate with Obama.

With time running out and U.S. and global financial institutions battered as badly as at any time in nearly eight decades, American voters appeared increasingly disinclined to put a Republican back in the White House, regardless of concerns about whether Obama, a first-term senator, has enough experience.

The Democrat leads in key states and the most recent Gallup Poll daily tracking survey showed Obama expanding his lead over McCain to 11 percentage points, though he has yet to sew up the race.

At the debate, Obama and McCain stood back from the vitriol that was consuming the campaign in the days leading up to the town-hall forum at Belmont University, which snap polls after the give and take showed Obama had won.

The only new proposal McCain brought to voters in the Nashville, Tennessee, confrontation Tuesday night was $300 billion in additional government spending on sour mortgages.

On Wednesday, McCain added he would “confront” the massive federal debt and would balance the annual federal budget by the end of his term in office, without specifying whether he meant in four years or perhaps eight years should he be elected twice.

McCain has long promised to balance the budget but this was the first time he renewed the pledge since the enactment of a $700 billion bailout this month of troubled financial institutions which could complicate such an effort.

Obama’s campaign released a statement Wednesday criticizing McCain’s mortgage bailout plan, saying it would cause the government to lose money by paying too much for bad loans.

Speaking to several thousand people in Indianapolis, Obama acknowledged public anxiety over the financial crisis.

“This isn’t a time for fear or panic,” he said. “This is a time for resolve and leadership.”

He also sought to tie his rival to the unpopular Republican president, George W. Bush.

“All we heard from Sen. McCain was more of the same Bush economics that led us into this mess,” Obama said. The Illinois Democrat urged supporters not to be “hoodwinked” or “bamboozled” by what he called downsides to McCain’s health care proposals.

Meanwhile, Palin’s husband weighed in for the first time on a controversy over whether his wife, in her role as Alaska’s governor, abused her power in firing a state official.

Palin and her husband, Todd, are the focus of an investigation by a legislative panel in Alaska.

The Palins are accused of pressuring Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan to fire a state police officer who had gone through a messy divorce with the governor’s sister. When he resisted, Monegan says, Gov. Palin fired him.

The panel is expected to meet Friday and release a potentially embarrassing report into the firing.

In an affidavit submitted by Todd Palin to the investigators in response to questions given to him, the governor’s husband defended his role as a close adviser to his wife but was adamant that he never pressured anyone — including his wife — about the officer.

    @HF

No problem, I can just look up the Larry King transcript online. :) I did see a small segment, and Michelle looked very poised and reflective — a stark contrast to the anger Cindy McCain exhibited yesterday at the rally.

  • Sydney

Yup, I’m Just Me, the Troopergate report is scheduled to drop tomorrow, so expect another major distraction from the McCain campaign.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a commentary today on The Huffington Post on the Alaskan Independence Party. This Vogler character sounds unstable:

Palin, it could be argued, following her own logic, thinks so little of America’s perfection that she continues to “pal around” with a man–her husband, actually–who only recently terminated his seven-year membership in the Alaskan Independence Party. Putting plunder above patriotism, the members of this treasonous cabal aim to break our country into pieces and walk away with Alaska’s rich federal oil fields and one-fifth of America’s land base–an area three-fourths the size of the Civil War Confederacy.

AIP’s charter commits the party “to the ultimate independence of Alaska,” from the United States which it refers to as “the colonial bureaucracy in Washington.” It proclaims Alaska’s 1959 induction as a state “as illegal and in violation of the United Nations charter and international law.”

AIP’s creation was inspired by the rabidly violent anti-Americanism of its founding father Joe Vogler, “I’m an Alaskan, not an American,” reads a favorite Vogler quote on AIP’s current website, “I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions.” According to Vogler AIP’s central purpose was to drive Alaska’s secession from the United States. Alaska, says current Chairwoman Lynette Clark, “should be an independent nation.”

Vogler was murdered in 1993 during an illegal sale of plastic explosives that went bad. The prior year, he had renounced his allegiance to the United States explaining that, “The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government.” He cursed the stars and stripes, promising, “I won’t be buried under their damned flag…when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.” Palin has never denounced Vogler or his detestable anti-Americanism.

**The New York Times, www(dot)nytimes(dot)com, has a disturbing story today about the removal of voters from the registration in six swing states (excerpt below). Officials are recommending that people check their voter registrations with their local boards of elections:

The six swing states seem to be in violation of federal law in two ways. Michigan and Colorado are removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election, which is not allowed except when voters die, notify the authorities that they have moved out of state, or have been declared unfit to vote.

Indiana, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio seem to be improperly using Social Security data to verify registration applications for new voters.

In addition to the six swing states, three more states appear to be violating federal law. Alabama and Georgia seem to be improperly using Social Security information to screen registration applications from new voters. And Louisiana appears to have removed thousands of voters after the federal deadline for taking such action.

Why is a topic of interest always income tax cuts, why not Property Tax, Luxury tax, or state tax purchase cuts. Obama/McCain promises income tax cuts, but in the end property, local, luxury taxes continue to rise…My property taxes rose as much to increase my mortgage payment by $200.00 per month…It seems to me the public wont reap the benefits of the so called income tax cut since all of the other taxes continue to rise….just a thought

Yeah, I think you’re right. It’s going to be a circus. People are going to have to be extra-vigilant to make sure their registration is up to date, and they know what to expect on Election Day. I’m pretty sure the Democratic voter turnout — particularly among people of color — this year is going to be much higher than in past elections, so I expect all sorts of voter suppression shenanigans.

Obama Sheeple Cheer Police Violation Of Free Speech

    Paul Joseph Watson

    Prison Planet

    Thursday, October 9, 2008

Police kicked protester Benjamin Harms off Belmont University campus this week before the presidential debate for the crime of “trespassing” as hundreds of mindless Obama supporters cheered the outright violation of free speech.

The protagonist’s attempts to succinctly explain the banker bailout scam – which Barack Obama has fully supported – in clear and concise terms was met with the mindless bleating of “Obama, Obama, Obama” – perfectly underscoring the vacuum of Obama’s empty platitudes of “change” and the deluded idolatry of his supporters.

“Obama and McCain are the same,” chanted another demonstrator as police and security thugs moved in to ensure that anyone that dared use their freedom of speech to communicate a real message was hastily ejected, while the Obama cult members were left completely alone to continue their pointless rhetoric.

“Kick him out, kick him out,” chanted the Obama-ites as the group tried to explain to the police the meaning of the first amendment.

“I am now being escorted away by police from the scene because I don’t have a right to free speech,” said Harms, to which the Obama crowd responded with whoops, cries and hollers of “yeeeeahhhh” in celebration of the fact that cops were crushing the first amendment.

“I have a right to speak my mind just like all of you do,” added Harms.

“They don’t like what I’m saying so I’m being escorted by the police off of the campus.”

Police threatened to arrest Harms and refused to tell him where the property line of the campus was. They were also unable to tell him why the use of a bullhorn was illegal, enforcing a claimed law of which they had no knowledge.

Thousands of Troops Are Deployed on U.S. Streets Ready to Carry Out “Crowd Control”

    Naomi Wolf

    AlterNet

    October 8, 2008.

Background: the First Brigade of the Third Infantry Division, three to four thousand soldiers, has been deployed in the United States as of October 1. Their stated mission is the form of crowd control they practiced in Iraq, subduing “unruly individuals,” and the management of a national emergency. I am in Seattle and heard from the brother of one of the soldiers that they are engaged in exercises now. Amy Goodman reported that an Army spokesperson confirmed that they will have access to lethal and non lethal crowd control technologies and tanks.

George Bush struck down Posse Comitatus, thus making it legal for military to patrol the U.S. He has also legally established that in the “War on Terror,” the U.S. is at war around the globe and thus the whole world is a battlefield. Thus the U.S. is also a battlefield.

He also led change to the 1807 Insurrection Act to give him far broader powers in the event of a loosely defined “insurrection” or many other “conditions” he has the power to identify. The Constitution allows the suspension of habeas corpus — habeas corpus prevents us from being seized by the state and held without trial — in the event of an “insurrection.” With his own army force now, his power to call a group of protesters or angry voters “insurgents” staging an “insurrection” is strengthened.

U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman of California said to Congress, captured on C-Span and viewable on YouTube, that individual members of the House were threatened with martial law within a week if they did not pass the bailout bill:

“The only way they can pass this bill is by creating and sustaining a panic atmosphere. … Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday that the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points the first day and a couple of thousand on the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted no.”

If this is true and Rep. Sherman is not delusional, I ask you to consider that if they are willing to threaten martial law now, it is foolish to assume they will never use that threat again. It is also foolish to trust in an orderly election process to resolve this threat. And why deploy the First Brigade? One thing the deployment accomplishes is to put teeth into such a threat.

I interviewed Vietnam veteran, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and patriot David Antoon for clarification:

“If the President directed the First Brigade to arrest Congress, what could stop him?”

“Nothing. Their only recourse is to cut off funding. The Congress would be at the mercy of military leaders to go to them and ask them not to obey illegal orders.”

“But these orders are now legal?’”

    “Correct.”

“If the President directs the First Brigade to arrest a bunch of voters, what would stop him?”

“Nothing. It would end up in courts but the action would have been taken.”

“If the President directs the First Brigade to kill civilians, what would stop him?”

    “Nothing.”

“What would prevent him from sending the First Brigade to arrest the editor of the Washington Post?”

“Nothing. He could do what he did in Iraq — send a tank down a street in Washington and fire a shell into the Washington Post as they did into Al Jazeera, and claim they were firing at something else.”

“What happens to members of the First Brigade who refuse to take up arms against U.S. citizens?”

“They’d probably be treated as deserters as in Iraq: arrested, detained and facing five years in prison. In Iraq a study by Ann Wright shows that deserters — reservists who refused to go back to Iraq — got longer sentences than war criminals.”

“Does Congress have any military of their own?”

“No. Congress has no direct control of any military units. The Governors have the National Guard but they report to the President in an emergency that he declares.”

    “Who can arrest the President?”

“The Attorney General can arrest the President after he leaves or after impeachment.”

[Note: Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi has asserted it is possible for District Attorneys around the country to charge President Bush with murder if they represent districts where one or more military members who have been killed in Iraq formerly resided.]

“Given the danger do you advocate impeachment?”

“Yes. President Bush struck down Posse Comitatus — which has prevented, with a penalty of two years in prison, U.S. leaders since after the Civil War from sending military forces into our streets — with a ’signing statement.’ He should be impeached immediately in a bipartisan process to prevent the use of military forces and mercenary forces against U.S. citizens”

“Should Americans call on senior leaders in the Military to break publicly with this action and call on their own men and women to disobey these orders?”

“But if these are now legal. If they say, ‘Don’t obey the Commander in Chief,’ what happens to the military?”

    Chavez: “Comrade Bush” a Socialist

    Russia Today

    October 8, 2008

George Bush has been the target of fresh jibes by Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez for doing exactly what he was criticising the socialist leader for – overriding market laws to protect the economy.

Critics say the U.S. bailout plan is an example of a double standard by the Bush administration, reports America’s McClatchy newspaper.

“If the Venezuelan government, for example, approves a law to protect consumers, they say, ‘Take notice, Chavez is a tyrant!’” said Chavez, speaking in one of his recent weekly television shows.

“Or they say, ‘Chavez is regulating prices. He is violating the laws of the marketplace.’ How many times have they criticised me for nationalising the phone company? They say, ‘The state shouldn’t get involved in that.’ But now they don’t criticize Bush for having to nationalise (the biggest banks in the world.) Comrade Bush, how are you?”

Warming to his theme, he added: “Comrade Bush is heading toward socialism.”

Nicaragua Congressman Edwin Castro agreed: “We think the Bush administration should follow the same policies that they and the International Monetary Fund have always told us to follow when we have economic problems — a structural adjustment that requires cutting government spending and reducing the role of government.”

Meanwhile, Bush said the bailout plan, that will see $700 billion of government money used to buy toxic mortgages, was necessary, although he said it stood against his personal philosophy.

Is the Federal Reserve Engaged in Acts of Economic Warfare Against America?

    Mike Adams

    Natural News

    October 8, 2008

In 1942, German intelligence officers rounded up skilled Jewish prisoners and launched Operation Bernhardt, a clever scheme designed to counterfeit hundreds of millions of dollars worth of British Pounds and destroy the British economy by flooding it with counterfeit money. Located in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, Operation Bernhardt was, even by modern standards, a runaway success that resulted in the creation of forged bank notes worth 132 million British Pounds.

This “economic warfare” operation resulted in a devastating economic effect on the British economy. You can read the true history of this operation here: GOOGLE IT…

It is important to note that Operation Bernhardt was an act of war, specifically pursued for the purpose of destroying Britain’s economy by creating so much new money that the value of the money already in circulation would plummet. This was considered a strategic attack, just as effective as carpet-bombing tank factories or mowing down soldiers on the field with German-made MG42 machine guns.

What does all this have to do with the Federal Reserve?

Today, the Federal Reserve is engaged in an eerily similar operation, counterfeiting trillions of dollars in U.S. bank notes and flooding the U.S. money supply with money created from nothing. The result, of course, is the same as was intended by Operation Bernhardt in 1942: The economic destruction of the target nation. Only this time, the target is the United States of America.

Hilariously, the Fed claims it’s doing this to save the economy. Yet the laws of economics tell us that flooding the money supply with trillions of dollars in new money actually harms the economy. And the Fed has been hard at work causing this harm: $250+ billion two weeks ago, $600+ billion last week and $900 billion earlier this week! It’s beginning to crank up the printing presses to the tune of a trillion dollars a week, and by doing so, it’s contributing to the destruction of the U.S. economy at a pace the Third Reich could have barely imagined.

Has the Fed declared war on the working class?

If the actions pursued by the Federal Reserve were being masterminded by Al-Qaeda, they would be denounced as acts of war. In World War II, such actions were deliberate acts of war. Targeting the economy for destruction by flooding the money supply with counterfeit currency is, by any measure, a threat to any nation.

So why is the Federal Reserve engaged in actions that, if committed by other nations, would warrant a military response? This is not an idle question. I’m not asking this in a satirical way. I’m quite serious about this: Why is the Fed committing acts of economic warfare against the United States of America? (The Fed, by the way, is a private company. It is not, as you’ve been led to believe, part of the U.S. government.)

The answer is obvious. You’ve probably already figured it out: The Federal Reserve is at war with America. It’s an economic war, of course, not a bombs-and-bullets war. The casualties, though, are just as real: Savings accounts, retirement funds, bank accounts, jobs, businesses, pensions and much more.

By counterfeiting trillions of dollars like a Sachsenhausen operation on steroids, the Fed is carpet-bombing the U.S. economy with an unprecedented flood of fiat currency, causing the exact same economic destruction intended by the Nazis in World War II (but on a much more devastating scale). And it’s doing this as part of a new economic war.

Did you know all 43 U.S. presidents have carried European royal bloodlines into office? 34 have been genetic descendants from just one person, Charlemagne, the brutal eighth century King of the Franks. 19 of them directly descended from King Edward III of England. In fact, the presidential candidate with the most royal genes has won every single American election.

Sydney, it seems Obama is getting support from an unusual constituency. It’s kinda funny, but pretty cool at the same time. From the AFP:

‘Rednecks for Obama’ want to bridge yawning culture gap

    by Michael Mathes

SAINT LOUIS, Missouri (AFP) – When Barack Obama’s campaign bus made a swing through Missouri in July, the unlikeliest of supporters were waiting for him — or rather two of them, holding the banner: “Rednecks for Obama.”

In backing the first African-American nominee of a major party for the US presidency, the pair are on a grassroots mission to bridge a cultural gap in the United States and help usher their preferred candidate into the White House.

Tony Viessman, 74, and Les Spencer, 60, got politically active last year when it occurred to them there must be other lower income, rural, beer-drinking, gun-loving, NASCAR race enthusiasts fed up with business as usual in Washington.

Viessman had a red, white and blue “Rednecks for Obama” banner made, and began causing a stir in Missouri, which has emerged as a key battleground in the run-up to the November 4 presidential election.

“I didn’t expect it would get as much steam and attention as it’s gotten,” Spencer told AFP on the campus of Washington University in Saint Louis, the state’s biggest city and site of last week’s vice-presidential debate.

“We believe in him. He’s the best person for the job,” Viessman, a former state trooper from Rolla, said of Obama, who met the pair briefly on that July day in Union, Missouri.

The candidate bounded off his bus and jogged back towards a roadside crowd to shake hands with the men holding the banner.

“He said ‘This is incredible’,” Spencer recalled.

It’s been an unexpectedly gratifying run, Viessman said.

Rednecks4obama.com claims more than 800,000 online visits. In Denver, Colorado, Viessman and Spencer drew crowds at the Democratic convention, and at Washington University last Thursday they were two of the most popular senior citizens on campus.

“I’m shocked, actually, but excited” that such a demographic would be organizing support for Obama, said student Naia Ferguson, 18, said after hamming it up for pictures behind the banner.

“When most people think ‘redneck,’ they think conservatives, anti-change, even anti-integration,” she said. “But America’s changing, breaking stereotypes.”

A southern comedian, Jeff Foxworthy, defines the stereotype as a “glorious lack of sophistication”.

Philistines or not, he said, most rural southerners are no longer proponents of the Old South’s most abhorrent ideology — racism — and that workaday issues such as the economy are dominating this year’s election.

“We need to build the economy from the bottom up, none of this trickle down business,” Spencer said. “Just because you’re white and southern don’t mean you have to vote Republican.”

To an important degree, however, race is still the elephant in the polling booth, experts say, and according to a recent Stanford University poll, Obama could lose six points on election day due to his color.

Racism “has softened up some, but it’s still there,” Viessman acknowledged from Belmont University, site of Tuesday’s McCain-Obama debate in Nashville, Tennessee.

Despite representing the heartland state of Illinois, and having a more working-class upbringing than his Republican rival John McCain, Obama has struggled to shoot down the impression that he is an arugula-eating elitist.

Surely he alienated many rural voters earlier this year when the Harvard-educated senator told a fundraiser that some blue-collar voters “cling to guns or religion”.

But Viessman, who says he owns a dozen guns, said Obama “ain’t gonna take your guns away.”

The South traditionally votes Republican — victories for southerners Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were exceptions — but with less than a month to election day, four states in or bordering the South are considered toss-ups: Florida, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia.

Viessman says he’d like to think his grassroots movement could sway enough people in small-town America to make a difference.

“There’s lots of other rednecks for Obama too,” he said. “And the ones that’s not, we’re trying our best to convince them.”

HF, thanks for that story! That is great news, particularly since that has been a very difficult constituency for Obama to reach. I also read a recent story in the Wall Street Journal about the outreach of unions to working-class white voters. The New Yorker also has a article this week, The Hardest Vote, that touches on this demographic.

Below is a brief summary of the role of voters and the Electoral College in selecting the next president. Contrary to some of the “theories” that are spouted here regularly, it is very important that there is a high voter turnout on Nov. 4:

Americans elect the President and Vice-president through a method of indirect popular election. On November 4, 2008, voters cast their ballots for a presidential candidate. However, votes actually count towards a group of electors who pledge to vote for a specific candidate when the Electoral College meets in December. The “Electoral College” is the unofficial term coined in the 1800s for the group of citizens selected by the people to cast votes for President and Vice President.

The presidential/vice-presidential pair who wins the popular vote in any given state receives all* of the state’s number of Electoral College votes. In the end, the winner of the race is the candidate who receives a majority (270) of the 538 Electoral College votes. The results of the 2008 election won’t be official until the President of the Senate counts the votes out loud at a special joint session of Congress held on January 6, 2009.

    2. The McCain campaign has taken shots at our boy for smoking, when they tried to defend McCain’s health and certain death while in office, saying Obama’s health is worse than McCain’s b/c of smoking..triflin.

  • Slim

John McCain and Bush are conservative for several reasons:

    1. They oppose abortion. Even though McCain says he wants to make abortion laws up to the states, he wants to overturn Roe v. Wade and encourage states to be anti-abortion.

    2. They oppose gay marriage.

    3. Their economic plans concerning tax cuts favor the wealthy and special interests, and follow the “Trickle Down” theory.

    4. They oppose gun control, or at least don’t want to expand it.

    5. THEY SAY THEY ARE CONSERVATIVE.

  • Sydney

New World Order: Global co-operation, nationalisation and state intervention – all in one day

    Lindsay McIntosh

    The Scotsman

    Thursday, Oct 9, 2008

IT WAS a day of desperate global action, unprecedented in both scale and cost, intended to stymie the international devastation being wrought by the financial crisis.

As the London stock market steeled itself to open again following days of vicious battering, Alistair Darling, the Chancellor, rose to stake the future of the country and the Cabinet on an audacious £500 billion banking bail-out.

And barely had the City begun to digest the hugely complex and unorthodox scheme when it was sent reeling again by an unscheduled interest rate cut – mirrored across the world – by the Monetary Policy Committee. It was the first such co-ordinated approach since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 – yet another indicator, had one been needed, of the gravity of the situation.

The half percentage point drop was immediately passed on to millions of borrowers, with leading high-street banks cutting their mortgages.

    (Article continues below)

The government’s scheme, a three-part plan which takes in short, medium and long-term measures, was welcomed by business leaders and analysts.

David Kern, adviser to the British Chamber of Commerce, said: “The government has taken a radical step, but it is one we welcome.”

But there was concern a phenomenal amount of taxpayers’ cash was being staked on a last-ditch measure that could fail. The Taxpayers’ Alliance accused ministers of failing to address other options first.

Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a fresh warning that Britain was on the brink of recession.

  • Slim

@ Sydney- McCain picked Palin b/c she is cute and folksy, which he thinks resonates with Conservatives, and b/c he was trying to get the female vote after Hillary wasn’t chosen for VP. @Slim

Yes, that’s true that McCain was going after women voters — specifically former Hillary supporters — with the Palin pick, but her popularity is falling among women, according to the most recent polls. There have been some pretty critical articles written by women — such as conservative Kathleen Parker — about Palin’s qualifications.

Palin’s views, such as her pro-life stance, support for abstinence-only education, and belief in Creationism, also make her appealing to conservatives. Her addition to the ticket initially re-energized the McCain campaign — Evangelicals love her.

Barack Obama has purchased a half-hour of airtime on CBS, sources confirm.

The Obama campaign will air a half-hour primetime special on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m.

Sources say the Obama camp is also in talks with NBC and Fox. NBC is said to be very near a deal. With Fox, the matter is likely to remain uncertain as the time period could conflict with Game 6 of the World Series.

A CBS spokesperson declined comment. The buy will push comedy “The New Adventures of Old Christine” to 8:30 p.m. and pre-empt “Gary Unmarried.” The buy is being placed by Washington-based ad firm GMMB.

Wife Nancy practiced witchcraft in the Whitehouse, using at least 5 (that we know of) different astrologers and soothsayers while in office, organizing every trip, meeting, conference and flight using witchcraft. Special lines were installed at the White House and Camp David solely to practice divination on all decisions, even with foreign heads of state! Monthly witchcraft fees estimated at $3,000 per month.

Like eddiedollars himself pointed out, you have to question the agenda of a source and I’m not sure I would count an organizational website as a valid source, particularly with such a controversial allegation.

What is the link for the Reagan info?

So there was something deeper going on with Nipplegate, too?

@ SYDNEY… THE REGAN STUFF WAS FROM VATICANASSASINS… JUST GOOGLE REGAN ILLUMINATI…

THIS IS FROM THE FREEMAN PERSPECTIVE… Top CBS executives approved a musical skit where Janet Jackson would expose her breast during the MTV-produced Super Bowl half-time concert, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. “The decision to go forward went to the very top of the network,” a well-placed source explained from New York. The groundbreaking scene came during the most-watched television broadcast of the year. During half-time at the 2004 Superbowl, Janet Jackson exposed her nipple ring adorned breast with Justin Timberlake. The nipple ring was a sun, made of gold. This is the ancient symbols of the goddess and god. Venus and Mars, Ishtar and Marduk, Inanna and Utu, whichever you choose to call them, the attributes are the same. You will find the goddess bearing her breast, as in Lady Liberty, and the male is worshiped as the Sun and gold is his metal, while silver is the metal of the goddess and she is worshipped as the moon.

SERIOUSLY JUST UTUBE ILLUMINATI CORPORATE LOGOS…

  • Sydney

    @Charge

I usually post the site name for the source of all my news posts, which are primarily mainstream sources. The last post on the Obama news buy is posted on the Wall Street Journal site, www(dot)wsj(dot)com, along with the New York Times, www(dot)nytimes(dot)com, and Pollster(dot)com.

Now I will have to look up this “Vaticanassassins” site. . .

OK, according to this Vaticanassassins site, a group I’ve never heard of was responsible for 9/11:

“Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, the General of the International Military Order of the Society of Jesus, commonly known as “the Black Pope”, ordered the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, with the advice and consent of his General Staff, composed of five assistants (each representing a hemisphere and under whom are many advisory Provincials), an advisor (resembling the likes of a military commander to warn him of any faults or mistakes), and his confessor (to ease his conscience and absolve him of his many sins).”

    Sydney

    You don’t believe in conspiracies

Look at the one dollar bill. They are meanings on the front and back. Nuvus Ordo Seclorum= New Wold Order. annuit coeptis=our enterprise is now a success, pyramid=god’s sun. 13 masonic symbolism-13 stripes/13 stars/13 leaves/13 arrows. Owl on the front of the dollar bill=bohemian society in L.A., presidents wearing KKK attire, and meet at night. The owl means that they are wise and see things in the dark that you don’t. The eye on the dollar bill=eye on CBS symbol

Columbia pictures, columbia univeristy, district of columbia=columbian faction basis of illuminati. District of Columbia means they own the government, which means they own you.

Most people think that 1776 was when the country was founded, WRONG, that’s when the secret society formed itself.

Check into it, and if you still don’t believe, then fine, but at least you will know.
