Another Day, Another Lawsuit

Posted by Bossip Staff

Lil Kim stay getting sued:

An upstart record company is suing raunchy rap diva Lil’ Kim for $2 million, saying she tried to weasel her way out of a contract. In response to Brookland Media’s suit, a Manhattan judge this week temporarily barred her from recording for any other companies. The suit accuses Lil’ Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, of stiffing Brookland after the company says it signed her to a exclusive recording deal. The suit says Lil’ Kim is “known in the music industry for her extravagant and costly excesses.” “Surprise, surprise, an artist of superstar stature wants to protect her image,” McMillan said.Jonathan Davis, a lawyer for Brookland Media, declined to comment, while McMillan said some sort of truce is likely. “We’ll work it out around a conference table, in front of a judge or over some martinis,” he said.

Regardless, Kimberly needs to get it together. It might just be a wrap for her rap career for real.

I MEAN IT IS WHAT IT IS

LOOk AT THIS ARTICLE…ARE WE SURPRISED??

WASHINGTON – The National Rifle *****ociation is endorsing Republican presidential nominee John McCain despite differences with the Arizona senator on gun-show rules and campaign finance restrictions.

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and the chairman of the NRA’s political action committee planned stops Thursday in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada to talk about the move.

LaPierre said the two agree on many issues important to the group.

“He’s cast more than 60 votes in the Senate in support of the Second Amendment,” LaPierre said.

The NRA’s Political Victory Fund has spent more than $2.3 million opposing Democratic nominee Barack Obama. The chairman of the political action committee, Chris W. *****, says its spending in the presidential race will grow to “eight figures” by Election Day. Besides ads, encouraging battleground-state gun owners to vote will be a key focus, he said.

The PAC was running an ad Thursday in USA Today accusing Obama of waffling on gun-rights issues and challenging his statements that he supports the right to bear arms. Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment but doesn’t think it precludes “some commonsense gun laws so that we don’t have kids being shot on the streets of cities like Chicago.”

The NRA PAC’s future spending will target Obama on gun issues and start publicizing the records of McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, LaPierre said. McCain’s selection of Palin was a plus, LaPierre said.

“She’s a hunter, she’s a Second Amendment supporter and she’s a tremendous *****et to the ticket,” he said.

Palin, an NRA member, received an A-plus rating from the group when she ran for governor in 2006. That compares to an NRA grade in the average range for McCain in his last Senate race. McCain isn’t an NRA member.

Palin has been an NRA booster, particularly for its education and safety programs, during her career in government. As mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she used $750 from her city campaign fund to upgrade her NRA membership.

The NRA doesn’t always endorse presidential candidates. It has backed President Bush but declined to endorse Bob Dole in the 1996 race or President George H.W. Bush in 1992.

Obama has been endorsed by the American Hunters and Shooters *****ociation, which calls itself a “mainstream group of hunters” that supports safe and responsible gun ownership.

  33. I'm Just Me- Buffalo Bills (4-1): WE GOT THE CHARGERS ON THE 19th!!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin remained in the dark while her husband repeatedly asked top state officials to help get his former brother-in-law kicked off the state police force, Palin’s husband and top aides said in affidavits provided to The *****ociated Press.

Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, is the focus of a legislative investigation into whether she abused her authority by firing the state’s public safety commissioner to settle a long-standing family dispute. The commissioner says he was fired after resisting pressure to fire Mike Wooten, a trooper involved in a bitter divorce with Palin’s sister.

The investigation has been a distraction for John McCain’s presidential campaign. Lawmakers were scheduled to meet Friday and release a report on the case, which could shed light on how Palin governs and what role her husband played in her administration.

The affidavits filed with investigators late Wednesday will probably help Palin’s defense that the firing was not a tit-for-tat, but they also portray her as uninvolved while her husband met repeatedly with her aides about family affairs. That could provide fodder for her political opponents.

“I have heard criticism that I am too involved in my wife’s administration,” Todd Palin wrote in his affidavit. “My wife and I are very close. We are each other’s best friend. I have helped her in her career the best I can, and she has helped me.”

The do*****ents, released on the same day the state Supreme Court heard arguments in a lawsuit designed to block the probe, describe Todd Palin’s extraordinary level of access to a variety of the governor’s top aides.

He told them emotional stories about Wooten threatening and emotionally abusing his family. He said he talked to anyone who would listen. He gave them photos and do*****ents, which they forwarded to others in the administration, and he questioned how Wooten kept his job.

Even Gov. Palin’s special *****istant, Ivy Frye, said she was distraught when she was told about the situation.

“I’ve felt empathy for the Palin and Heath families in having to endure har*****ment, intimidation, threats and abuse from a former family member,” Frye wrote.

But Frye said she never talked about it with the governor or mentioned the idea of asking Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan to fire Wooten.

Monegan says he was fired for not dismissing Wooten, a claim that touched off the politically charged investigation just before McCain chose Palin as his running mate. Palin says she fired Monegan over a budget dispute. The do*****ents filed late Wednesday bolster that claim and also describe an effort by Monegan to wrest control of the department away from Palin.

Todd Palin said he never pressured anyone — including his wife. In fact, he says that after talking about the matter with her repeatedly, she finally told him to “drop it.”

“Anyone who knows Sarah knows she is the governor and she calls the shots,” Todd Palin wrote. “I make no apologies for wanting to protect my family and wanting to publicize the injustice of a violent trooper keeping his badge.”

Republican lawmakers argued Wednesday before the state Supreme Court that the legislative inquiry should be shut down and the report not released. Palin is not a part of that lawsuit. The state’s personnel board also is looking into the matter and Palin has said she feels that inquiry is more appropriate.

The Supreme Court said it would rule promptly but did not say when.

  36. I'm Just Me- Buffalo Bills (4-1): WE GOT THE CHARGERS ON THE 19th!!

WASHINGTON — After forgoing character attacks during the second presidential debate, Republican John McCain sought Wednesday to sow doubt about Democrat Barack Obama’s background and character. Obama, meanwhile, accused the McCain campaign of trying to “score cheap political points.”

Both candidates tried to play into voters’ worries about the other with a mere four weeks to go before Election Day. McCain is perceived as being weak on the economy, and Obama continued a line of attack against the veteran senator for saying recently that the fundamentals of the U.S. economy were strong.

McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, challenged Obama’s campaign claims, stressed his lack of experience and said his ideas were dangerous.

“We’ve all heard what he’s said. But it’s less clear what he’s done, or what he will do,” McCain told supporters in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

McCain’s remarks about Obama were interrupted with shouts of “socialist,” “terrorist” and “liar.”

Palin said there were too many questions about Obama’s past: “John McCain didn’t just come out of nowhere. The American people know John McCain.”

And for the second time in three days, a speaker at a Republican rally invoked Obama’s middle name, Hussein, in an apparent attempt to feed lingering fears about the Democrat’s background.

Lehigh County Republican Chairman Bill Platt twice used Obama’s middle name before McCain and Palin arrived at the campaign stop in the town of Bethlehem. The campaign quickly issued a statement saying it did not condone “this inappropriate rhetoric.”

McCain has called the use of Obama’s middle name both improper and inappropriate and once apologized after a supporter warming up a rally used it. Hussein is a common name in Muslim cultures and its use in the campaign is seen as an effort to link Obama to radical Islam even though he is a Christian. Obama’s father was a Muslim from Kenya.

Wednesday’s attacks came after Palin over the weekend repeatedly went after Obama, claiming he is close with William Ayers, a founder of the violent Vietnam-era group the Weather Underground. Obama and Ayers live in the same Chicago neighborhood and have served together on community boards.

Obama, speaking in an ABC News interview televised Wednesday night, shot back at the McCain campaign, saying they were highlighting his *****ociation with Ayers in an effort to “score cheap political points” in the final weeks before the election.

Obama said he was surprised McCain didn’t bring the attacks up at this week’s second presidential debate.

“I am surprised that, you know, we’ve been seeing some pretty over-the-top attacks coming out of the McCain campaign over the last several days, that he wasn’t willing to say it to my face. But I guess we’ve got one last debate. So presumably, if he ends up feeling that he needs to, he will raise it during the debate.”

Palin first accused Obama of “palling around with terrorists,” then recalibrated her criticism to say the lack of clarity about the Ayers-Obama relationship was a legitimate campaign issue because it speaks to Obama’s truthfulness and judgment.

Obama said Wednesday that he has said many times that Ayers “engaged in some despicable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old” and that he was an education professor at the University of Illinois when they met 10 or 15 years ago.

“The notion that somehow he has been involved in my campaign, that he is an adviser of mine, that he — I’ve palled around with a terrorist, all these statements are made simply to try to score cheap political points,” Obama said.

The return to heavily negative campaigning by the Republican ticket came as McCain, behind in the polls, gained no ground following Tuesday night’s debate with Obama.

With time running out and U.S. and global financial institutions battered as badly as at any time in nearly eight decades, American voters appeared increasingly disinclined to put a Republican back in the White House, regardless of concerns about whether Obama, a first-term senator, has enough experience.

The Democrat leads in key states and the most recent Gallup Poll daily tracking survey showed Obama expanding his lead over McCain to 11 percentage points, though he has yet to sew up the race.

At the debate, Obama and McCain stood back from the vitriol that was consuming the campaign in the days leading up to the town-hall forum at Belmont University, which snap polls after the give and take showed Obama had won.

The only new proposal McCain brought to voters in the Nashville, Tennessee, confrontation Tuesday night was $300 billion in additional government spending on sour mortgages.

On Wednesday, McCain added he would “confront” the m*****ive federal debt and would balance the annual federal budget by the end of his term in office, without specifying whether he meant in four years or perhaps eight years should he be elected twice.

McCain has long promised to balance the budget but this was the first time he renewed the pledge since the enactment of a $700 billion bailout this month of troubled financial institutions which could complicate such an effort.

Obama’s campaign released a statement Wednesday criticizing McCain’s mortgage bailout plan, saying it would cause the government to lose money by paying too much for bad loans.

Speaking to several thousand people in Indianapolis, Obama acknowledged public anxiety over the financial crisis.

“This isn’t a time for fear or panic,” he said. “This is a time for resolve and leadership.”

He also sought to tie his rival to the unpopular Republican president, George W. Bush.

“All we heard from Sen. McCain was more of the same Bush economics that led us into this mess,” Obama said. The Illinois Democrat urged supporters not to be “hoodwinked” or “bamboozled” by what he called downsides to McCain’s health care proposals.

Meanwhile, Palin’s husband weighed in for the first time on a controversy over whether his wife, in her role as Alaska’s governor, abused her power in firing a state official.

Palin and her husband, Todd, are the focus of an investigation by a legislative panel in Alaska.

The Palins are accused of pressuring Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan to fire a state police officer who had gone through a messy divorce with the governor’s sister. When he resisted, Monegan says, Gov. Palin fired him.

The panel is expected to meet Friday and release a potentially embarr*****ing report into the firing.

In an affidavit submitted by Todd Palin to the investigators in response to questions given to him, the governor’s husband defended his role as a close adviser to his wife but was adamant that he never pressured anyone — including his wife — about the officer.
