Sh*t Might Be Getting Realer Than The People Of Libya Expected

Moammar Muammar Gadhafi Qadhafi Gadaffi Khadafi

When the people of Libya decided to rise up against Moammar Gadhafi, they probably expected a little rabble rousing in the streets, support from the West and their “freedom” in the very immediate future.

But they forgot to account for one thing: Gadhafi is not only crazy, he also doesn’t give a fawk.

A Libyan army unit loyal to Moammar Gadhafi attacked anti-government protesters holed up in a mosque in a key city west of the capital Thursday, blasting a minaret with anti-aircraft missiles and automatic weapons, a witness said.

Protesters who had been camped inside and outside the mosque suffered heavy casualties in the attack on Zawiya, 30 miles west of Tripoli, the witness said, but he couldn’t provide an exact toll.

Gadhafi’s use of excessive force has so far helped him maintain control of Tripoli, a city that holds about a third of Libya’s 6 million population. But the protesters’ determination has divided the country and threatened to push it toward civil war.

The witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said the 9 a.m. attack came a day after a Gadhafi aide identified as Abdullah Megrahi came to the city and warned the protesters to”leave or you will see a massacre.”

“We told him we are not leaving, either death or victory,” the witness said.

He expressed disbelief the army would attack its own people. Several military units have sided with Libyan protesters since the uprising began on Feb. 15.

“What is happening is horrible, those who attacked us are not the mercenaries; they are sons of our country,” the witness said while sobbing. “Now there is heavy gunfire. They bombed the minaret of the mosque.”

He said the protesters were mostly youths armed only with hunting rifles. He also said protesters from Zawiya did not intend to respond to a call by the opposition movement for a nationwide march to the capital on Friday.

Saddly for Gadhafi, the super powers of the world don’t take well to this type of embarrassment.

International momentum has been building for action to punish Gadhafi’s regime for the bloody crackdown it has unleashed against the protesters.

President Barack Obama said the suffering and bloodshed in Libya “is outrageous and it is unacceptable,” and he directed his administration to prepare a full range of options, including possible sanctions that could freeze the assets and ban travel to the U.S. by Libyan officials.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy raised the possibility of the European Union cutting off economic ties.

Another proposal gaining some traction was for the United Nations to declare a no-fly zone over Libya to prevent it using warplanes to hit protesters. U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said that if reports of such strikes are confirmed, “there’s an immediate need for that level of protection.”

Italy’s Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said estimates of some 1,000 people killed in the violence in Libya were “credible,” although he stressed information about casualties was incomplete. The New York-based Human Rights Watch has put the death toll at nearly 300, according to a partial count.

Moammar Gadhafi’s son claimed Thursday that the reported death tolls have been exaggerated, although he didn’t provide his own figure. In a press conference aired on state TV, he said the number killed by police and the army had been limited and “talking about hundreds and thousands (killed) is a joke.”

He also said a committee had been formed to investigate alleged foreign involvement in the protests.

Sadly there is a big price for freedom. Here’s hoping the international community takes more of a stance on what’s going on. Looks like the lessons they supposedly learned from Rwanda are long forgotten if they were ever learned to begin with.

I agree with This Just in, what leader doesn’t mistreat his people these days? Revolution is some serious sh*t and most times it appears to not end well for non-white countries. Most times, one nut is just replaced with another nut or the country never fully recovers from war. I am an optimist so I hope for the best for the people around the world.

I believe in revolution but the people in Egypt and Lybia must think what comes next after their revolution. If Gaddafi is some how over thrown who will lead your country? A country with no leader is bound to get swollowed up in the hands of the US and their military. i.e Iraq, Haiti, Afghanistan.

  • Mississippi Librarian

He is a North African; people born on the Continent in the Northern part of Africa tend to be lighter with more distinct features. However, they are still Africans. While the Sahara Desert kept whites and europeans other parts of Africa, the North Africans were easy to get to from the Mediterranean Sea. They have been inbred with Greeks and Romans and others, therefore they are not as dark as the other Africans.

You are not making sense. If you support being free from devils then you should support the people of Libya and all of the Arab countries. Who knows if the policies they choose will be favorable to the U.S? They will choose their own path. That is the way things should be. We in Europe and the U.S. are spectators as we should be. I support the young people in the streets trying to take their destiny in their own hands, do you?

“A president makes foreign policy decisions in the name of the people. We don’t take votes on every single issue. That is why we have a president. Although, I think popular opinion was slightly in favor of the Iraq war.”

Pure drivel. They could care less about what you think about their foreign policy fool. Your voice is drowned out by the oligorchy, financial institutions, multi national corporations and special interest groups. Now be a good little sheeple and leave nation building to us grown ups simpleton.

  • KEM WER

“well that turk stands up for Africa”

And white folks give two sh!t’s about Native Americans also. You’re ignorance is amazing.

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ KEM WAR

What “nation building” are you talking about? Special interests have a large say in what happens in government. Maybe too large a say. But why do special interests spend hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising during campaign season? They are obviously trying to influence public opinion. Seems kind of stupid to waste that money if public opinion doesn’t count for anything.

The fact is that public opinion does count. Our votes do count. Your vote may seem insignificant because you are only 1 in 300 million people. But collectivley, we are the most important voice in what the U.S. goverment does.

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ Uhh Yeah Ok

Please explain to me what Gadhafi has done for Africa other than pay lip service to African Unity.

  • white male

Interesting obama tells mubarak to step down but tells his buddy gaddafi “the violence is unacceptable”.

  • http://crownedroyalty.wordpress.com Uhh Yeah Ok

Lip service is better that proaganda and raping the,.. Which yes, Kem, Arabs have done.. But like I said it’s better than a devil who commits economic warfare and fights dirty.

    @Observer

Wright took $5million and the rest of us take his oil. Where’s the news?

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ KEM WER

You are not being logical. If special interests need to go through the people, then the people have the power. I can usually tell someone who doensn’t think for themselves when they use the word “sheeple”. Try to think logically. Any person with more than half a brain can see how ridiculous infowars and similar websites are. Spouting conspiracy theory boilerplate does not make you an independent thinker. It makes you a follower.

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ Uhh Yeah Ok

Gadhafi has contracts with BP. Isn’t he just as much of a puppet to the Europeans as Mubarek was to the US?

  • WTF

    @white male

What Obama said was that the violence in Libya from BOTH sides was unacceptable. He supports the Eygpt model of peaceful overthrow if elections are not available. Both Murbarrak and Gadhafi blames Obama, the internet and news outlets for inflaming the youth or the region into revolt.

  • KEM WER

    @ Uhh Yeah Ok

Now we can come to an agreement on something you said that is sensible; but let me make this clear: I DON’T LIKE EITHER ONE OF THEM!!!

  • http://crownedroyalty.wordpress.com Uhh Yeah Ok

Depends, I don’t know much about that situation, so I can’t say. But that only proves our point that you are devils – BP brags about how they infiltrated all sectors of Nigeria’s government. people are going to die to get away from that 2% in power which is not Ghadaffi.. It’s YOU.

  • mr.make.ya.feelgood

you don’t understand po/LIE/tics or gamesmanship. what obama is doing or not doing is commit to any side until he can see who the clear winner is gonna be. that country is a strategic point for our military. so whoever ends up in power we need to have a working relationship with them. in the remote chance the kadafy stays in power we want to show that we didn’t abandon him.

  • http://crownedroyalty.wordpress.com Uhh Yeah Ok

Sorry it’s Shell who brags. Same beast, different arm.

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ mr.make.ya.feelgood

That is a dumb comment. We have never had a good relationship with Kadafy. He was responsible for bombing a 747 flight from the UK to the US. We bombed Libya during the Reagan administration. There is no way for us to abandon him because we have always been at odds.

  • daresay

    @ the commenter

I’m actually not against the revolution because I think what will really build up Africa is sustainable democracy because I believe Africa will remain stagnant with leaders who refuse to who vacate office because they are now deluded to believe they are monarchs. However, I remember during the Obama Presidential debate with Mccain where he categorically stated the US does not care about democracy/dictatorship in other parts of the globe as far as they are not against the “American Interest”, and he used Pakistan under Musharaf’s rule as example, that America support him despite the fact that he toppled a democratically elected govt. So does America really care about the so-called “democracy”? Or they are just opportunist waiting to have puppet leader they can easily control. And it is funny, you said Bush wasn’t a dictator…but that’s how those from the outside looking-in saw him. Same way you were quick to label Gaddafi a dictator. You can’t have it both ways.

Btw, as the revolution is going on, are there not a lot of pro-Gaddafi supporters who would also say you are “spectacularly uninformed” about him?

    Gudnyt!

  • KEM WER

    @Formerly
Yes, the people have the power through their sheer number, but they do not set the agenda. They are the tool used in the hands of TPTB (the powers that be). They are manipulated and whipped into a patriotic frenzy to do the bidding of TPTB. You and I can agree this is accomplished through info wars, media etc… Not only do they do their unwittingly do their bidding the vote against their own interest. Talk of democracy, terrorism, free markets, founding fathers etc… is all a ploy for you to choose sides. Divide and Conquer.

  • KEM WER

    unwittingly do their bidding

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ Uhh Yeah Ok

How was shell able to infiltrate the Nigerian goverment? It was because people in Nigeria were selling out their own people for personal gain. Who is the greater devil, Shell or the Nigerians who expolit their own countrymen? That is why Africa is poor despite its natural resources. African pride doesn’t last long against personal gain and the profit motive.

  • KEM WER

Actually, Europe needs a relationship with Libya and Algeria because that’s where their oil and natural gas comes from. Formerly is right, we don’t care much about him unless it screws up cheap oil, being as though they’re a part of OPEC.

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ daresay

A sensible person would not compare Bush to Gadhafi. One was elected, served 2 terms and turned over power. One is trying to hold on to power by killing his own citizens.

I will agree that the U.S. has been more interested in friendly regimes than dictatorships. Whether or not that was an error in the past is a matter for debate. We were dealing with the Cold War and other things that were used as justification.

I think we both agree that the U.S. should support democracy and oppose dictatorships whether those dicatators are friendly to the U.S. or not. The Arab people are now forcing our hand to choose a side and that is a good thing. We are at a crossroads and we can change our ways. Our past doesn’t define our future any more than the Arab people’s does.

  • white male

I read an interesting article last night about Obama’s pastor having all these connections to Gaddafi

  • The Commenter Formerly Known as White Devil

    @ KEM WER

In democracy people try to convince others of their point of view. That is how issues are decided, through debates, advertisements, protests and elections. What you are describing is democracy. People are making their choices. You may not agree with them. But it is better than deciding issues using violence.

  • mr.make.ya.feelgood

@COMMENTATOR. read what i said again. i never said anything about the two countries being friends. my main point was that he was playing both sides until he or the state dept can guage who will prevail. there is a difference between not seeing eye to eye and being at odds with a country. we have 2 bases along the mediterranean. libya controls a good amount of that sea. he or a new regime could affect the travel of our ships or regular commerce.

  • mika

Fuk you white people..bu bu bu bu but before you go, can you overthrow our government? And can you give us a hand out? Oh and how about few of your women? Oh oh oh can we live in europe too? But it must be a country with as many whites as possible and if you agree, we give you some oil. Mister white man answers..yeah sure. After everything is over what happens? Fuk you white pig! See,see, see? They just stole our fuking oil. Pale alien marshman mother fukers!

  • killojugs

i support the mobilization and implementation of democracy all throughout africa and the middle east.
these protests are long overdue. but with libya, i highly doubt qaddafi will step down. this is the same dude who refused to leave his home when the u.s. was sending an airstrike to libya in the 80s. he actually challenged george hw to a boxing match and said he smash his face in. lol im pretty sure the man is all bite and no bark though, but he is a character alright.
the one thing i respect him for is that he is very pro-black and afrocentric. if you know anyone from north africa/middle east, you will know that this is rare.
