Nowadays, fashion goes hand and hand with just about every form of entertainment you can think of, and more than one rapper, singer, actress, model, has come out with a clothing line at some point in their career.

Some of these lines are good, some are bad, some are profitable, some were finsihed before they started. Here is a list of a few that have that you may have on right now, and some that are being hidden in your closet hoping no one ever finds them…EVER!

The clothing line was announced in 2003 as a joint partnership between 50 Cent and Marc Ecko, founder of Eckō Unlimited. The deal was said to be unique as Ecko wasn’t handling the designing of the clothing, but rather the marketing and merchandising of the brand. Marc Ecko likened the deal to “Nike and (Michael) Jordan coming together for Air Jordan”. 50 Cent maintains full ownership of the line, along with the opportunity to re-launch it on his own. According to http://www.rapbasement.com, 50 is relaunching his G-Unit clothing brand soon. It launches in Spring 2009 with another collection of clothing after resigning with its distributor and partner Marc Ecko Enterprises.

In July of 2010 whilst on tour in Brazil it was reported that 50 Cent and G-Unit had relaunched the G-Unit clothing line there due to his rather large fan-base there.

In 2005, Pharrell, one half of The Neptunes partnered with Japanese fashion icon Nigo, the founder of A Bathing Ape (BAPE). The two collaborated together to create and launch two new luxury streetwear brands: Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream. The brand suffered many setbacks after its original conception due to disputes between Pharrell and Reebok. Reebok was originally set to release the clothing line alongside the Ice Cream sneaker line. Although the sneakers made it, the clothing line was postponed and all projects came to an end in late 2004/early 2005. It was at the very end of 2005 when the brand was finally launched as a sister company to A Bathing Ape.

Expanding the brand, Beyoncé and her sister Solange Knowles launched the junior line Deréon that is geared towards younger consumers and is more reasonably priced. Deréon was introduced in 2006. The tag line for Deréon is “Where the sidewalk and catwalk meet”. This line includes more casualwear, such as sweatpants and embroidered hooded sweatshirts. Both women are models for both clothing lines and are featured on most marketing campaigns. In 2007, members of Beyoncé’s touring band, Suga Mama appeared in print ads.

House of Deréon was announced to the media in September 2004, by Tina and Beyoncé Knowles. House of Deréon’s tagline is “Couture.Kick.Soul” which represents the three generation of women. Agnèz Deréon is the “soul,” Tina Knowles is the “couture,” and Beyonce is the “kick.” While Beyoncé was performing in the group Destiny’s Child, her mother Tina would design and sew their outfits, especially when the group was first starting out and did not have much money or access to designer clothing. Part of what called attention to Destiny’s Child, besides their obvious talent, was their one-of-a-kind fashions. Their style set them apart, yet gave the group cohesion as a similar style, color or garment was worn by all the members.

L.A.M.B. is a fashion line by American singer Gwen Stefani, the lead vocalist of the rock band No Doubt. The line manufactures apparel and fashion accessories. The line was founded in 2003 but made its runway debut the following year in 2004. The fashion line manufactures accessories like shoes, watches, bags and a fragrance called “L” as well. The name is an acronym of her debut solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby.

The line is influenced by a variety of fashions cultures, including Guatemalan, Japanese, Indian and Jamaican styles. Stefani came from a line of seamstresses. This further inspired her to launch her own fashion line. The line achieved popularity among celebrities and is worn by stars such as Teri Hatcher, Nicole Kidman, Paris Hilton and Stefani herself.

The fashion line made a runway debut in the spring collection of 2004,[1] and achieved mainstream success at New York Fashion Week in 2005 and currently makes an annual gross income of $90 million. The line, as well as the fashion shows were well received by critics and appreciated the indulgence of a celebrity into the fashion world. An additional fashion line was also launched by Stefani called Harajuku Lovers.

Created in 1999 by Roc-A-Fella Records co-founders Damon Dash and Jay Z, Rocawear has annual sales of $700 million. Rocawear expanded its brand through licensing pacts to develop lines for children and juniors; socks and sandals; leather, suede, and fur outerwear; handbags and belts; lounge wear; big and tall; headwear; jewelry; and sunglasses; as well as co-branded product with Pro-Keds, State Property, and Team Roc.

On January 17, 2007, allegations were made of raccoon-dog (tanuki) fur being used in two styles of jackets; Rocawear pulled all of the garments from the department stores where this product was shipped. A representative of Rocawear stated the company was unaware the fur was being used and had notified manufactures it was not permitted. The items, in addition to being pulled from department stores, were also removed from the brand’s official website.

R&B superstar Ciara has signed to be the new face of Rocawear.

In March 2007, Jay-Z sold the rights to the Rocawear brand to Iconix Brand Group for $204 million. Jay-Z will retain his stake in the company and will continue to oversee the marketing, licensing, and product development.

The original D-A-S-H store opened in 2006 in Calabasas, California. D-A-S-H sells designer clothing apparel, purses, jewelry, hats, shoes, and other fashion accessories for women.

D-A-S-H Miami was opened on May 20, 2009. Kourtney announced on her website that in addition to regular D-A-S-H
merchandise, bathing suits and Miami night wear would be available for purchase. The stores have appeared on both Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami. Although all three sisters co-own D-A-S-H, Kim Kardashian has decided to get wholly involved with the store located in Miami.

On November 3, 2010, Kourtney, Kim and Khloe opened a third D-A-S-H store in the SoHo district of New York City. All D-A-S-H employees are hired through casting calls.

Baby Phat is an urban fashion line of clothing and other items for women and girls. Besides clothing, the brand also includes accessories for phones, jewelry, shoes and fragrances. It is the corporate “sibling” of the clothing brand Phat Farm created by Russell Simmons. Baby Phat uses a sleek cat as the brand logo.

There is also a division of Baby Phat called Baby Phat Scrubs. The line sells medical uniforms such as scrubs and lab coats in various prints and designs featuring the Baby Phat cat logo.

Kimora Lee Simmons announced her split from Baby Phat via Twitter in August of 2010. She admits the split was less than amicable. “It’s over. It’s absolutely over. It was very abrupt and sudden. I was shocked,” she told the Daily News last night at Macy’s Herald Square. She wouldn’t confirm that she was pushed out, but said: “It’s very, very sad for me. It was totally unexpected.”

As the sisters have matured, there has been greater interest in their fashion choices, with the New York Times declaring Mary-Kate a fashion icon for pioneering her signature (and now popular among celebrities and fans alike) “homeless” look. The style, sometimes referred to as “ashcan” or “Boho-chic” or bohemian-bourgeois, is similar to that of Bohemian chic popularized in Britain by Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. The look consists of oversized sunglasses, boots, loose sweaters, and flowing skirts all with an aesthetic of mixing high end pieces with low end. Their fashion choices, however, have not been without controversy. Ashley Olsen was included on PETA’s 2006 Worst Dressed list for wearing fur.

Mary-Kate and Ashley have a clothing line in Wal-Mart stores across North America for girls ages 4 – 14 as well as a beauty line called “Mary-Kate and Ashley: Real fashion for real girls”. In 2004 they made news by signing a pledge to allow all the workers that sew their line of clothing in Bangladesh full maternity leave. The National Labor Committee, which organized the pledge, later praised the twins for their commitment to worker rights. The director of the organization, Charles Kernaghan, is quoted as saying, “The Olsen twins have done the right thing. Now it is up to Wal-Mart to either support Mary-Kate and Ashley’s commitment to women’s rights, or tragically to shut them down.”

Self explanatory.

In 1998, Combs decided to launch a signature collection of sportswear under his name Sean John. Since its launch, Sean John has enjoyed critical and commercial success with revenues now exceeding $100 million annually. Sean John has often appeared at the award ceremony for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) held annually in New York. For five consecutive years since 2000, Sean John has been nominated for its excellence in design. In 2004, Sean John was awarded the CFDA Men’s Designer of the Year award.

In February 2001, Sean John produced the first nationally televised runway show during Fall Fashion Week when it simultaneously aired live on E! Television and the Style Network.[citation needed] During fashion week in February 2002, the New York Times ran a front page story on Sean John.

In 2004, Sean John invested in the high-end label Zac Posen.

On August 1, 2008, Dawn Robertson formerly of Old Navy, was named the president of Sean John. In October 2008, the company purchased urban lifestyle brand Enyce from Liz Claiborne for $20 million dollars.

In November 2008, Combs launched his latest men’s perfume under the Sean John brand called I Am King. On November 24, 2008, he unveiled a new Times Square billboard for the I Am King line to replace his iconic Sean John ad. The giant billboard is currently the largest print ad in Times Square.
