Here’s the first of what we’re sure will be many updates on Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Aqib Talib.
Aqib Talib turned himself in to Texas authorities today on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Talib, 25, posted $25,000 bail and was released about two hours later.
A Dallas County grand jury will decide whether to indict Talib, said Joe Harn, police spokesman in Garland, Texas.
Talib is accused of firing shots at his sister’s boyfriend and trying to pistol-whip him March 21. He could face up to 20 years in prison.
Talib’s mother turned herself in Tuesday in the incident. Okolo Talib, 58, faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police said they were called to a disturbance at the home of Saran Talib, 42, and her longtime boyfriend, Shannon Billings, 40.
According to arrest warrants, Aqib Talib pointed a 9 mm handgun at Billings and swung the pistol at him. Billings picked up the gun after it slipped from Talib’s hand.
Talib then tried to fight Billings. Okolo Talib arrived, jumped out of her vehicle holding a handgun and shot at Billings, authorities said.
Talib got the gun from his mother and shot several times at Billings but missed, police said.
Billings, who was listed as a suspect in a disturbance at the home earlier that day, was taken into custody on charges of assault and interference with an emergency phone call.
Hold up: mom was bucking at the sister’s trifling boyfriend too? Somebody needs to come up off the whole story before this young man’s career and life are needlessly ruined.
Then again, Aqib does have a previous anger management situation on his record. So…
