WORSER: Authorities Say The Nuclear Situation In Japan Could Break Chernobyl Records

Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant

The nuclear emergency in Fukushima, Japan has now reached the highest/worst rating used to measure nuclear meltdowns.

And experts are saying it will more than likely become the worst meltdown in history, passing the 1986 incident at Chernobyl in the Ukraine.

Japanese officials said the leaks from the Fukushima plant so far amount to a tenth of the radiation emitted in the Chernobyl disaster, but said they eventually could exceed Chernobyl’s emissions if the crisis continues.

“This reconfirms that this is an extremely major disaster. We are very sorry to the public, people living near the nuclear complex and the international community for causing such a serious accident,” said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano.

But Edano told reporters there was no “direct health damage” so far from the crisis. “The accident itself is really serious, but we have set our priority so as not to cause health damage.”

Hironobu Unesaki, a nuclear physicist at Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute, said the revision was not a cause for worry, that it had to do with the overall release of radiation and was not directly linked to health dangers. He said most of the radiation was released early in the crisis and that the reactors still have mostly intact containment vessels surrounding their nuclear cores.

The change was “not directly connected to the environmental and health effects,” Unesaki said. “Judging from all the measurement data, it is quite under control. It doesn’t mean that a significant amount of release is now continuing.”

“Right now, the situation of the nuclear reactors at the Fukushima plant has been stabilizing step by step. The amount of radiation leaks is on the decline,” he said. “But we are not at the stage yet where we can let our guards down.”

Yeah, aight: these high levels of radiation have been leaking for a full month, the situation continues to get worse, and they have the nerve to try to downplay it and tell people to chill?

SMH.

Why does it seem like they are playing that ish down while we know for a fact 1 or 2 of those reactors are still leaking, no ones said they fixed that leak yet. Seems they’re hiding the seriousness.

I AGREE. They even down played the 1s blast. stating that it didn’t contain large amounts of toxins. And that the ppl in that region didn’t have to worry. Our gov cosigned that to the ppl of the US west coast. What they didn’t tell the ppl was that all of the dangerous stuff (plutonium. uranium ect) didn’t go up until the 2nd explosion. When it comes to disasters you can never totally trust these governments.

the leak was bad from the start, those left behind to try to fix it were on a suicide mission. SMH at officials still trying to convince the public nuclear power is safe and necessary. word to the wise you shouldnt own things that you cant control. Not a conspiracy theorist but im sure, worldwide, there is a global attempt to suppress any news that may sabatoge the “recovering” global economy. Ive said this before, months ago- brace yourselves food shortage soon to follow. check the fridge and read a label most of your seafood or meats are very possibly imports as well as shelf foods. Be wise and know that radiation contamination is not something you can simply dissolve or discard like household waste..sometimes I wonder just how simple officials think the general public can be
