The Old Man, Obama, and ‘Joe The Plummer’

Posted by Bossip Staff

Here is your boy Barack talking to the star of the night, that nicca ‘Joe The Plummer” from Ohio. The debate was boring but Obama played it smart.

Big Surprise, it came out tonight that Joe The Plummer is backing McCain. Joe P. does look like he has a white sheet under his bed with that “cone hat” swag going on. Just think if ‘Joe The Plummer’ was a one-time who pulled you over.

Well, it’s too late to come correct old man, try again in 4 years. We do think that “erratic” McLame would beat Obama’s a*s in a one on one scrap, that’s about it.

    McCain had too much ground to cover to even be considered relevant in this election. i guess all those crazy *****es at his rallies are costing him the election. oh well, i feel sorry for him. NOT!!!!!

    Obama ‘08 YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!

    I like what Obama did to McCain and how he laughed at him when he went on and on about his past. I feel like for the first time in history the little man/woman is stepping up and saying, enough is enough! Whether it be Blacks or middle cl*****/poor people in general, we are tired of having this country catering to the upper cl*****, which McCain is. I saw the bald headed plummer on the Nightly News and while he didnt say who he was voting for, he did say that he didnt believe in taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Saying that the rich worked hard for their money and he feels like their being punished. That basically said who he was voting for and that attitude agaisnt the poor or less fortunate emplying that their “just not working hard enough” is the problem with America. The “rich” Americans had so much handed to them despite their intelligence its amazing. While minorities have to be damn near brillant to make it to the top (see Obama). While the dude that he’s up agaisnt can be ranked 894 of 899 in his cl***** (see McCain). The debating is over lets make this happen people!

  7. Tresprincess

    Hold up is it Joe Plummer or Joe THE PLuMBER?? I can’t- first it was Joey Six Pack getting shout outs from Sarah Plain and Tall and now its Joe Plummer/The Plumber being the focus of the debate tonight.. Ugh.. can we please just vote Obama into office and stop with the charade McPain is calling a campaign.

  8. BLACK CONSERVATIVE

    I HAVE MADE MY TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO BOSSIP SINCE I FOUND MY CONDO IN MARYLAND IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS. I KNEW BOSSIP WOULD HAVE POSTS ABOUT THE CAMPAIGNS AND I ADMIT I COULD NOT KEEP AWAY FROM COMMENTING.

    YOU ALL ARE IN TROUBLE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE POLLS ARE SKEWED IN SEN. OBAMA’S FAVOR, COME NOVEMBER 4TH THIS ELECTION IS GOING TO BE HISTORICALLY CLOSE.

    THE BOTTOM LINE IS POOR FOLKS THINK OBAMA IS THEIR SAVIOR FROM GOD, BUT IN REALITY YOU WILL ONLY BE ANOTHER LOST BLACK SOUL LOOKING FOR A FREE HANDOUT! GET OFF YOUR LAZY BEHIND AND MAKE SOMETHING OF YOURSELF!!! SMILE

  9. Makela

    As a black woman, I have to say that I am incredibly proud of Barack Obama. He has run a spectacularly successful and cl*****y campaign, much to the dismay of those who wrote him off many, many months ago. In all three debates, he was effective in presenting his ideas for change and explaining anything questionable in the media, all while maintaining his composure. Quite Presidential!

    I have felt compelled to follow this election from day one, campaign on his behalf and donate a lot of my personal time to discussing his positions and politics and making sure people are registered to vote! He has shown America what personal integrity is truly about and I believe he will make a phenomenal President. He is THE ONLY MAN for this job, THE ONLY MAN capable of bringing us out of a disastrous war, economic peril and restoring our positive standing in the world.

    OBAMA 08- YES WE CAN!

  10. Real Conservative

    McCain just effectively separated himself from Bush with the line that if obama wanted to run against Bush, he should have run in 2004.

    That is the sort of thing voters remember rather than he is paying much money on a health care plan or who was more involved with Freddie Mac. McCain is going to get a boost from that. McCain also diminished Obama by questioning the way he carefully words his ideas. That registered even with Frank Lunz’s group. remember the one guy who made it a point to say Obama was a great debater, but i am voting for a president? He got what McCain was trying to do.

    Sit tight, boys ‘n girls. McCain did not land a knock out punch, but he did just make himself more competitive.

  11. danton

    According to Huffington Joe wouldn’t say who he’s voting for. However, we hope he realizes he won’t have much plumbing to do if McCain wins, since everyone will be homeless.

  12. jonjon23

    McCain is pathetic, but I wouldn’t count him out because whites outnumber blacks in this country more than triple, and racism is still alive and well in this country. I think Obama did okay in the first and third debates, but wiped the floor with him in the second debate. McCain and Palin are just bad comedy–if Obama was white, it would be a landslide. I am and I hope everyone else is praying that nothing happens to Obama, because we know how full of hate some of these people are. I hope Obama makes it and is prosperous. The Joe plumber deal was just propaganda for McCain and the average voter knows the difference between a plant, and a real person.

  13. CALI

    BOSSIP IS A RACIST SITE

  14. danton

    Real Conservative, if you think that one line is going to make a difference for McCain you’re hoping on a wing and prayer, but your wing has no feathers and you’re praying to a false god.

  15. Well, it’s too late to come correct old man, try again in 4 years. We do think that “erratic” McLame would beat Obama’s a*s in a one on one scrap, that’s about it.

    I don’t think so, Bossip. do your research on John McCain. He has injuries that makes him unable to lift his arms past his shoulders. He cannot fight. Barack would do Judo on John, and John would p***** out and have any anxiety attack.

    I think you were wrong to roast Joe the Plumber, Bossip, but you are Bossip, so….

  16. @Real conservative

    I do not think so. Barack later came back and talkked about no child left behind-another Bush failure-which John said was great.

    His attacks were good to get back the Republicans-but the Independents (Like me) didn’t care for it-we wanted issues discussed, and Barack was on point with that.

    Now, most of you do not know about Barack’s TV appearance for all four of the new networks. America will see him as he is, a comp*****ionate gentleman about the people’s business.

  17. I like Bossip, though. They say ***** for the hellof it to get reactions, when we know to truth, just like certain screen-names.

    John McCain needs to stop being an *****hole before he dies of an heart attack. Old Mc*****er…

  18. bossip sucks *****

    I am so sick of this website calling every white person a klan member. That is an extremely racist thing to say. You do not know this man so don’t accuse him of terrible things like that.

  19. lol@ black women! Loves it girl tell em!

    Obama wins the racist vote by default because of a national post-colonial guilt complex that must be exorcised through voting for him.

    You and Sydney more than proves this with your over the top sychophantic adoration for this empty suit of a candidate. Face it, you’re only voting for him because he’s BLACK!

  24. asil

    stop hating, dont get mad because is winning this race, just accept the fact that president obama is in command ha ha

    My response to you is this:

    Schizophrenia is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a mental disorder characterized by abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality. It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking with significant social or occupational dysfunction.

    My making cr***** jokes about John McCain’s name is not an hallucination, it is my right as an American, my right as I post on Bossip, and not to be negotiated with anyone who disagrees. My vote is my right. Sydney’s vote is her right. You can’t change that, and we cannot change yours.

    Also, it is not a hallucination that more Independent voters favored Senator Barack Obama than Senator John McCain. It is going to take the Black man to save this nation. I said it. I will take the time to once again write out my view of why it should be Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.

    Look at this nation, Real conservative. Black Men are only visible in the streets as jobless, absentee baby makers, or in sports, fraudulent rap music cussing out women and other black men, in prison, or dead. The invisibility of the Black man in the places it would be of benefit to uplift the ethnicity is startling to me, maybe not to you, but that’s your thing. My view is, because that is so, it is having devastating consequences on the prognosis on most black boys growing into men or trying to.

    In the culture of America, it was the Black man who had to be submerged deep on account of his relationship with the White man. He had to completely go out of himself to prove he was a man equal to the White man, even more of a man. Have you read “Invisible Man”? What about “Native Son”? As of today, after the Iraq war, after a failed economy, after 8 years of lies, and deceit, and after 5 months of growing racist campaigning, the American White man has the least amount of leverage to take the country, and the world forward. Taking into account this country’s peculiar history with slavery, the Black man is the person with the most leverage for fundamental change and progress. This line of thought brings Sen. Obama front and center. He is in position to stimulate phenomenal change, notwithstanding that he needs more information to take advantage of the opportunity. All over the world, men are moving in or toward battle. The United States is caught up in this world wind and the nation is tilting. The Black man has got to show up eventually if the nation is to ever right itself.

    The Black man is the real blood-and-guts backbone of hard work in this nation and he is in a mess and he is going to stay there until he straightens it out. His messy predicament and the essential threat to the nation are intertwined.

    The threat from which the Black male must save the nation is in the fact that so many young Black boys have nowhere to go but into gangs.

    Right now, there is a small force of Black men to even be around their boys. That is the legacy that slavery left. Other than to incarcerate these boys and locking them up is not going to stop what essentially is guerilla warfare. These young boys are not scared of jail. If these young men are not given a sound platform for being whom they are essentially as humans and for mining their natural creativity, they are going to wreck the nation from within. There is a subliminal surge that has powered Obama to the front; a subliminal recognition that the African American man needs to be at the table. We’ve never been at the table in a primary way since we have been in this country.

    Black boys don’t have a precedent to teach them how to be at the table. So not only does the Black man need to rise, he needs to rise with knowledge.

    Yeah, my selection of Senator Obama is based on race, but it is more, Real conservative. It has everything to do with the condition of slavery. America has nothing to empower the Black man, so he has to empower himself. He has got to get his hands on money and political power. Most of all, he needs knowledge. It’s not solely race. It is an economic and political situation. We as Blacks struggle on with a “continuing past” that has people on both sides of the so-called black-white divide wearing deeply engrained frowns every Fourth of July. Black males are frontline pushers of this mindset because they feel like they’ve never gotten justice. The time is here to take a substantive look at the nature of America. We need to tell the truth: slavery still lives. Correcting the damning results of slavery is a national need, for all of us in the Diaspora in Africa, South America, Europe, and North America, Real conservative. It’s time to play this card, and I make no apology for it. There are White people not voting for him because he is black.

    BLACKWATER (all you bush haters should know who this is) Joins Local Law Enforcement in Search

    WAVY-TV

    October 15, 2008

    CAMDEN CO., N.C. (WAVY .com) — Law enforcement personnel from 3 jurisdictions, with an *****ist from personnel and equipment from Blackwater, searched a rural area in the county Tuesday morning for a suspect they say shot a county resident as he walked out his house to go to work.

    A spokesperson for the Camden County Sheriff’s Office tells WAVY.com that they received a call at 5:39 a.m. in reference to a shooting incident.

    Camden Deputies found 45-year-old Frank Crank, suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities say he was shot as he exited his home for work.

    Crank was flown by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he is listed in stable condition with non life threatening injuries.

    K-9 units from Elizabeth City Police and the Currituck Co. Sheriff’s Office responded. Blackwater was called to *****ist in the search with a helicopter.

    One in three recent Atlanta Police Academy graduates have criminal records

    TIM EBERLY

    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

    October 14, 2008

    Keovongsa Siharath was arrested in Henry County on charges he punched his stepfather.

    Jeffrey Churchill was charged with *****ault in an altercation with a woman in a mall parking lot.

    Calvin Thomas was taken into custody in DeKalb County on a concealed weapons charge.

    All three are now officers with the Atlanta Police Department.

    More than one-third of recent Atlanta Police Academy graduates have been arrested or cited for a crime, according to a review of their job applications. The arrests ranged from minor offenses such as shoplifting to violent charges including *****ault. More than one-third of the officers had been rejected by other law enforcement agencies, and more than half of the recruits admitted using marijuana.

    “On its face, it’s troubling and disturbing,” said Vincent Fort, a state senator from Atlanta. “It would be very troubling that people might be hitting the streets to serve and protect and they have histories that have made them unqualified to serve on other departments.”

    But Atlanta police say it’s not so simple. Officials have been trying without success for more than a decade to grow the department

    to 2,000 officers, an effort hurt by this year’s budget crisis. With competition for recruits intense among law enforcement agencies, Atlanta has had to make concessions.

    SERIOUSLY HOW DO YOU GET REJECTED BY THE L.A.P.D. ?

    Officer Mark Moore applied for jobs with other police agencies before graduating from the Atlanta Police Academy. He tried to get a job with Atlanta police in 2004 but was rejected. He also failed a written test for the Knoxville police.

    When he applied to another police department in 2002, “their psychologist deemed me to be ‘psychologicaly incompatable’ [sic] for the L.A.P.D.,” he wrote in his Atlanta job application… BAJESUS…

    Pentagon envisions *****eship troops ready for worldwide deployment

    Tom Vanden Brook

    USA TODAY

    October 15, 2008

    WASHINGTON — The Pentagon wants to rocket troops through *****e to hot spots anywhere on the globe within two hours, and planners spent two days last month discussing how to do it, military do*****ents show.

    Civilian and military officials held a two-day conference at the National Security *****e Office to plan development of the Small Unit *****e Transport and Insertion (SUSTAIN) program. The invitation to the conference called the notion of *****e troopers a “potential revolutionary step in getting combat power to any point in the world in a timeframe unachievable today.” Attendees included senior Army, Marine, Navy and Air Force officers.

    The next steps toward getting troops in *****e: addressing the technological challenges and seeking input from the military, said Air Force Lt. Col. Mark Brown, a *****e office spokesman. No further meetings have been scheduled.

    Marines launched the concept after the Sept. 11 terror attacks. They needed the “capability to transport small, mission-tailored units through *****e from any point on the globe to a contingency at any other point on the globe” within minutes of an order, according to a Marine do*****ent.

    Some critics are skeptical. The concept defies physics and the reality of what a small number of lightly armed troops could accomplish in enemy territory, said John Pike, a military *****yst who runs Globalsecurity. org.

    Former author talks about dangers of modified foods

    Emily Banks

    Leader-Telegram

    October 15, 2008

    Genetic pollution could last longer than nuclear waste and global warming, said Jeffrey Smith, author of “Seeds of Deception,” Monday night at The Forum at UW-Eau Claire’s Zorn Arena.

    It would be impossible to recall genetically modified mosquitoes or salmon once they’re released into nature.

    Much of the foods we eat – such as soy, corn and canola oil – have been genetically modified to withstand herbicides and pesticides, creating new organisms that never existed before. And they might be causing major health risks, Smith said.

    “They put genes from bacteria and viruses into crops,” Smith said.

    Scientists have warned of allergens, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems caused by genetically modified organisms (GMOs), but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration overruled the scientists’ findings and deemed the foods safe, said Smith. In working with scientists, he said he’s identified 65 different health risks related to GMOs.

    Lab rats refused to eat genetically modified tomatoes, and squirrels in the wild will choose organic corn over genetically modified crops. Smith calls that phenomenon the “wisdom of animals.” The process of genetically engineering potatoes made lab rats sick in one UK study, causing excessive cell growth, and animals have become sterile or even died after eating genetically modified crops, said Smith.

    GMOs might be harmful to humans for many reasons. What scientists intended to change in an organism may not turn out how they expected, Smith said. The protein might be different than they intended, or it might rearrange once it’s in the crop and generations later might mutate into something else.

    Early science suggested soil-dwelling toxic bacteria would be destroyed during digestion, but Smith says that’s not true. Tests have shown the bacteria survive digestion, and genes from GMOs might transfer to humans’ gut bacteria and own DNA.

    “Long after we stop eating GM foods, we may have visitors that have moved in,” he said.

    The effects on humans who consume these kinds of foods is not known. No human clinical trials have ever taken place, but Smith suggested that the increase in genetically modified foods might be connected to a decrease in general health among Americans.

    Perhaps autism, diabetes, obesity and cancer have some links to GMOs, Smith said.

    But it’s not too late to change habits and eventually the market, Smith told the crowd at Zorn Arena. Europe has taken steps to limit GMOs, and Americans made conscious decisions not to purchase milk with bovine growth hormones, turning around the milk market.

    People can use non-GMO shopping guides, buy foods that are organic or carry a non-GMO label, and avoid at-risk ingredients such as packaged meals that include soy, corn and canola products, which also include ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup, salad dressings and cooking oils.

    I don’t know how much most of you all make, but $250K a year is NOT rich. They pay more for taxes than you and I do; they don’t get the tax credits for children that you and I do; they don’t get to deduct education expenses or day care for their children; they have to pay full price for college for their kids. Even when the Obama’s were making that much, Michelle Odrama was complaining about how tight it was paying their student loans. Maybe a single person with no kids or other responsibilities can be considered “rich” (although, doesn’t rich have more to do with your expenses versus your income?), but if you’ve got children and a family and already are paying more taxes than someone making under $100K, I don’t know how Barack Obama or anyone can say these are rich people. They’re working families just like the rest of us.

    And, for those of you who think this is okay, to just take money from those who have worked hard for it and give it to others, let’s see how you would feel if Barack Obama decided that we should do it with people who make $70K or $80K…or whatever you make. Would you have a problem if someone told you they were going to take another $50 out of your paycheck every week just to give to someone who doesn’t make as much as you?

    I make less than $100K and I have a small business, and I’ll get taxed more, too, because the tax rate will increase for sole proprietors. So, just because you might make under $100K, don’t think Obama’s tax plan will not affect you. If you run a small business on the side and pay self-employment taxes, you WILL be taxed, no matter what your income.

    Plus, remember, Obama’s plan is NOT a tax reduction. The actual taxes that come out of your paycheck will not change. You’ll just get a check – from Joe the Plumber to Obama to you. Even people who don’t pay any taxes at all (40% of Americans) will get some of Joe’s money. So, yeah, if I was Joe, I’d be mad, too.

    SILLY RABBITS, unless you are from the ghetto, grew up on hard times, and really don’t have a sense of how to make it, then you will never understand!I DON’T believe that black people think he is that savior, THERE is only one Jesus! I believe the people that are writing this bull***** for mccain, have their ***** together and know how to get it. What about those millions of poor and hard working families that need this changed plan OBAMA can give them?

  41. GhostWriter

    LMAO @ some of you whining about a tax increase. As *****ed as this country is both from a fiscal and social perspective tax increase are terribly needed. (Thanks George W. Bush) And yes, the upper middle cl***** and above can and should be paying more. It would be irresponsible for the health of our nation to continue the damning economic policy of the Bush administration. Sadly McCain keep the status quo.

  42. Linnay

    MCSTUPID and MS. PAIN didn’t know ***** the first two debates. They acted like TWO BUBBLE heads smiling all over the dam place, believing they would win because THEY ARE WHITE!!! They didn’t think we were paying attention to OBAMA and BIDEN. He thouht he could bring that RIDICULOUS woman in and win. Have racial speeches, I mean, mcsane has people yelling death threats, what kind of ***** is that? ms pain actually had STUDY NOTES for a debate she’s suppose to be qualified for. READING that ***** like she was studying for a test!!

  43. Bossip, that debate was NOT boring…it was far more interesting than the first one…

  47. Linnay

    OH YEAH JOE THE PLUMBER, JOE if YOU MAKE MORE THAN 250,000.00 FREAKING DOLLARS FOR YOUR BUSINESS, taxes WILL GO UP! If you don’t know how to grow and budget your money for your business, DON’T BUY THE *****ING BUSINESS JOE.

  48. I'm Just Me-Buffalo Bills (4-1) WE GOT THE CHARGERS ON THE 19th!!!

    Joe the Plumber really doesn’t matter to me at all. Not all Joe the Plumbers are voting for McSame, so really it doesn’t matter to me at all. Tired of all of this. Wake me up when it is 11/4 because that is all I am waiting for!!!

  49. dubya

    Sillyme:

    I cosign 100%!

    So you insinuate that Joe the Plumber is a racist but have no problem taking money from his paycheck.

    Last time I checked, if you want more money, you work harder.

    Those people who will be taxed more, you probably work for, so they will compensate by LETTING YOU GO!

    You can’t have it both ways, you can’t rape businesses with more taxes and expect them to not fire a load of people to make up the costs.

    So, yeah, let Obama tax, tax, tax, I just don’t want to hear any complaining as you march yourself down to the unemployment office.

    ———————————————

    I’m not too sure about that. Joe the plumber should matter because

    1. Obama just released his tax plan a few days ago. Wait until the dust settles and all the “joe the plumbers” crunch the numbers, they just may vote for McCain for the sake of their business.

    2. If Obama wins, Joe the Plumber will be authorizing Obama to take money from his check and give it to YOU.

  51. Linnay

    I WILL NOT LET JOE BE THE FOCUS OF MY LIFE! YOU got people out there losing their homes and money and THIS SELFISH JACK***** joe wants us to think about him buying a 250,000.00 business. HOW be it that it’s 250,000.00, JUST IN TIME FOR THE DEBATE, huh! Practically mccains whole speech was about joe. Man, ***** (planted) joe right about now, what about shaniqua and shaquanda and other people trying to get through college to EVEN be in a position like that. When I grow, up I don’t want to be a plumber, SO joe’s FREAKING PROBLEM IS not helping anyone right now!

    ——————————————–

    Sure, don’t buy the business, let the USA loose valuable GDP because Obama’s taxes cripples future investments. Yes, that means, no new jobs, no new investments (which, by the way, are directly tied to economic growth).

    And, you should care, think about all the “Joe the Plumbers in your neighborhood” The salon where you get your “hair did”, the daycare that watches your kids, “the nail salon” where you get your “nails did”, the corner store, where you get your snacks, the check cashing place, the laundry mat, the coffee shop, the auto mechanic, the dr.’s office.

    These are all “joe the plumbers” too, who will suffer under the Obama tax plan.

  54. We have yet to hear the inner details on Obama’s idea to tax the wealthier…and if he should win (fingers crossed), he’s not going to just jump right in the chair and start taxin’ folks. He’s going to have advisors to give perspectives, Biden, and he’s certainly going to have to go through Congress before that can happen.

    Remember, Bush didn’t just have troops staying in Iraq single-handedly. Congress approved that mess…over and over again…

    What’s selfish about wanting to enjoy the fruits of his labor? Geez, the entitlement on this board is amazing. Joe’s problem is your solution, so you need Joe more than you think.

    Further, Joe is not the one who forced these people to sign ARM’s and/or live above their means. To punish Joe, is not right.

    As the saying goes: A lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on mine.

  57. Good Morning all how is everyone doing

  58. Re

  60. Hey did anyone hear when Mccanin said to Obama “when you were a long shot” Now look that long shot is giving him a run for his money and he was hating on how much Obama is able to spend. Get your supporter game up mccain

  61. as seen on t.v.(my gravie went to Harvard with our next president)

    so what those businesses shouldn’t pay any taxes at all…we are in an economic melt down and someone has to pay for it….joe the plumber the nail salon the hair dressers, you, me all of us are going to be needed to get out from under this mess….remember ask not what your country can do for you…ask what you can do for your country…it’s going to take some tax hikes in order to get us back to even…just back to even not even on top….so stop with all the doom and gloom and make way for president obama…

  62. @Rossy

    Goodmorning! Yeah, I think we tend to forget Congress holds power. That’s why we have Checks and Balances, to make sure no one person or branch of government is overpowering the other…

    Obama 08, *****.

  64. re

    You are right Bush can only keep war going by himself alone I think 90 before congress has to approve it.

  65. He's Presidential

    Joe the Dummer was on GMA this morning calling Obama a socialist. Saying well what if decides to start with 100K or 150K. To me he really didn’t understand the issue because 95% or 90% of small businesses don’t make over 250K besides he doesn’t even have the business yet. I think he tried to throw salt in Obama’s game we already know he voting for McSame.

  66. 2cute4u♥♥♥

    Bossip do you all actually watch the debates or do you just randomly run off at the mouth! This particular debate was far more informative, and better all around than the previous ones. I thought when asked the question about why would each of the candidates running mate’s would make a good President, Obama said only positive things about Palin, when he could have roasted her *****. When “McCan’t” answered he could only say one good thing about Biden, all the rest was negative and petty. It just shows that the old man is running out of time so he tries to do and say anything negative toward Obama’s camp. Its sad. This country has a long tough road ahead, and really for either one of them who makes it to the White House, this country is not going to get better over night, maybe not even within a year, but I do believe that Obama has what it takes to make things better in the future. Thats important to me.

    You are right

    Mccain did a far better job on this debate

    certain issues by both parties as far as abortion was tapped dance around and the true meaning of roe v wade wasnt discussed

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hey Rossy
    Yeah I heard that and I looked at my husband and we were both sitting there thinking, “Obama’s gonna snap on him”! He’s so controlled and poised, I honestly think that McCan’t was purposely trying to get him riled up, so that he could look like the bad guy. Who’s going to be the longshot come election day “McCan’t”!!
  72. I'm Just Me-Buffalo Bills (4-1) WE GOT THE CHARGERS ON THE 19th!!!
    HEMPSTEAD, New York (CNN) — A majority of debate watchers think Sen. Barack Obama won the third and final presidential debate, according to a national poll conducted right afterward.
    Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain debate face to face Wednesday night.
    Fifty-eight percent of debate watchers questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll said Democratic candidate Obama did the best job in the debate, with 31 percent saying Republican Sen. John McCain performed best.
    The poll also suggests that debate watchers’ favorable opinion of Obama rose slightly during the debate, from 63 percent at the start to 66 percent at the end. The poll indicates that McCain’s favorables dropped slightly, from 51 percent to 49 percent.
    The economy was the dominant issue of the debate, and 59 percent of debate watchers polled said Obama would do a better job handling the economy, 24 points ahead of McCain.
    During the debate, McCain attacked Obama’s stance on taxes, accusing Obama of seeking tax increases that would “spread the wealth around.” But by 15 points, 56 percent to 41 percent, debate watchers polled said Obama would do a better job on taxes. By a 2-1 margin, 62 percent to 31 percent, debate watchers said Obama would do a better job on health care.
    Sixty-six percent of debate watchers said Obama more clearly expressed his views, with 25 percent saying McCain was more clear about his views.
    By 23 points, those polled said Obama was the stronger leader during the debate. By 48 points, they said Obama was more likeable.
    McCain won in two categories. Eighty percent of debate watchers polled said McCain spent more time attacking his opponent, with seven percent saying Obama was more on the attack. Fifty-four percent said McCain seemed more like a typical politician during the debate, with 35 percent saying Obama acted more like a typical politician.
    “Independents tend to prefer debates that are dominated by substance and light on discussion of personal characteristics,” said Keating Holland, CNN polling director. “The perception that McCain attacked Obama gave red meat to GOP partisans, but it probably didn’t help McCain with independents.”
    “There was a notable gender gap as well,” Holland said. “Women thought Obama won the debate by a 62 percent to 28 percent margin. Among men, Obama’s lead was narrower, 54 percent to 35 percent in Obama’s favor.”
    During the debate, McCain demanded to know the full extent of Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, a 1960s radical. But the poll suggests that line of attack may not resonate with Americans. Fifty-one percent of debate watchers said Obama’s connection to Ayers didn’t matter at all to them, with 23 percent saying it mattered a great deal.
    The audience for the debate poll appeared to be a bit more Democratic — and a bit more Republican — than the U.S. population as a whole. Forty percent of debate watchers in the survey were Democrats and 30 percent Republicans.
    CNN’s estimate of the number of Democrats in the voting age population as a whole indicates the sample is about 3 to 4 points more Democratic than the population as a whole, but also about 2 to 3 points more Republican than the population as a whole.
    Eighty-eight percent of Democrats questioned in the poll said Obama did the best job, with 68 percent of Republicans saying McCain performed best. Among independents, 57 percent said Obama did the best job, with 31 percent backing McCain as the winner of the debate.
    The candidates first debated in Oxford, Mississippi, on September 26. Fifty-one percent of debate watchers polled by CNN and the Opinion Research Corp. said Obama won that debate, with 38 percent saying McCain performed best. The second presidential debate was held in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 7 and 54 percent of debate watchers polled said Obama won, compared with 30 percent who said McCain did the best job.
    The running mates, Democratic Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware and Republican Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska faced off in Saint Louis, Missouri, in the single vice presidential debate October 2. Fifty-one percent of debate watchers polled said Biden won, and 36 percent said Palin won.
    The post-debate polls do not reflect the views of all Americans. They only represent the views of people who watched the debates.
    The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll was conducted by telephone Wednesday night, with 620 adult Americans who watched the debate questioned. The survey’s sampling error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
  73. 2cute4u♥♥♥
    Goodmorning IJM!
    I think the issue of abortion and Roe vs Wade will come to the table again, and when it does Obama should be clear about where he stands on that particular issue. Otherwise it will just look like he’s trying to avoid it.
  74. Linnay
    O BAM! A cain and pain. Meaning, blow their minds with your intellect for our economy. The government is more white than black. Those white officials know it stinks in WASHINTON, Obama wouldn’t even be quite where he is if they didn’t want a change, TOO! BAM! right in your face dummies, a plan to help the economy. Some of you doubters just can’t see through him being BLACK!
  75. I'm Just Me-Buffalo Bills (4-1) WE GOT THE CHARGERS ON THE 19th!!!
    (CNN) – Joe the Plumber was the star of the final presidential debate on Wednesday night. But who is he?
    Watch: Obama meets ‘Joe the plumber’
    Last weekend, while Barack Obama was canv*****ing for support in the small town of Holland, Ohio, the Democratic nominee ran into a tall, bald man, since dubbed Joe the plumber. He asked Obama if he believed in the American Dream — he said he was about to buy a company that makes more than $250,000 a year and was concerned that the Democratic nominee would tax him more because of it.
    Obama explained his tax plan in depth, saying it’s better to lower taxes for Americans who make less money, so that they could afford to buy from his business. John McCain attacked Obama for this exchange, saying the Illinois senator is trying to “spread the wealth around.”
    “We’re going to take Joe’s money, give it to Senator Obama, and let him spread the wealth around. I want Joe the plumber to spread the wealth around,” McCain said. He added, “Why would you want to increase anybody’s taxes right now? Why would you want to do that to anyone, anyone in America, when we have such a tough time?”
    Joe the plumber was mentioned 11 times at the beginning of the debate, nine times by McCain and twice by Obama.
  76. Angel_Minded
    Overall, I felt that Obama won the debate. If there’s really any victory in winning these debates, (after all Bush was an idiot in all debates & still manage to have 2 terms)but Mccain had me crackin up! Dude is hilarious! Especially when he got on Obama for insisting that he had racist @ his rallies, Mccain responded by saying “No more than you have @ yours,” I was *dead*! One of the things that I’ve learned during this election is how racists black people can be. It has been so unreal to me.
    But the highlight was when BHO kept saying things about bush. finally McCain said .. ” I ain’t bush if you wanted to run against bush you should have ran against him four years ago!” McCain came out feisty but what was really funny was when the debates were over Fox was claiming a victory for BHO and CNN was claiming victory for McCain lol
    What kind of *****es me off with “McCan’t”, is that on every debate he gets that smug self righteous, sarcastic look on his face whenever Obama makes a comment. Like he’s just some smart ni**er, but he’s not going to win because he’s black kind of thing! I just want to come through the television screen and push his ***** down!
    FOXNews.com
    Wednesday, October 15, 2008
    Barack Obama riffs on his media image in an interview for the New York Times Magazine, which quotes him as suggesting FOX News has cost him a few points in the polls.
    The interview with reporter Matt Bai, to be published Sunday, features the Democratic presidential candidate feeling lamenting a “media narrative” that has pigeon-holed him as a liberal stereotype.
    “I am convinced that if there were no Fox News, I might be two or three points higher in the polls,” Obama says in the article. “If I were watching Fox News, I wouldn’t vote for me, right? Because the way I’m portrayed 24/7 is as a freak!”
    He continues that he is being typecast as “the latte-sipping, New York Times-reading, Volvo-driving, no-gun-owning, effet, politically correct, arrogant liberal. Who wants somebody like that?”
    Obama’s reference to his poll numbers comes at a time when he has opened up a commanding lead over his rival, John McCain, in national polls, as well as in several battleground states. A recent New York Times poll puts Obama ahead by 14 percentage points.
    In the New York Times Magazine article, Obama tries to explain a comment he made during his primary race against Hillary Clinton, during which he was quoted as saying to an audience in San Francisco that some working cl***** voters “cling to guns or religion” in response to economic woes.
    Obama calls that comment “my biggest boneheaded move,” adding that his point was to say that “these voters have a right to be frustrated” and their concerns shouldn’t be ignored.
  87. MiMi
    What happen to having some comp*****ion for your fellow man/woman. Are people soooo greedy that they can’t see p***** the money? Do they really think a hike in taxes will bankrupt thier business.
    Or change thier life style? This is what I don’t understand. I mean maybe it’s b/c I’m a hard working single parent who appreciates any money I get. I can’t even see crying over having plenty and having to give some of it up, and still having plenty!!!
    Now I don’t think Obama can work miracles right off the back but Damn! we need something different than what we’ve been dealing with. Right now we need new ideas, a fresh start, encouragement, a more humble attitude, comp*****ion, and “real talk” from a President. Not that same ol’ ***** that’s been shoveled on us since……..
    And a lil color in the white house won’t hurt!!! :)
WHATEVER THEY MAY BE. WITH ALL THE REPUBLICANS THAT WE HAVE HAD IN OFFICE, NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP ABORTIONS FROM BEING LEGAL. SO ALL THE FUSS IS REALLY NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE FACT THAT IT IS, AND WILL BE IN EXISTANCE.
First on ALL the brothers of Ohio,I’m sorry.To rectify the situation,I went off on him with some of my cartoons.We all know that he was a republiklan plant.Joe Sixpack, Joe the Plumber .He should write a book “How Hard It Is To Survive On a Quarter of a Million Dollars a Year.” That was a dogwhistle for a bigot with a small business. If you cant survive on that, you don’t deserve to have a business.
  103. Necy
    Good morning all!!! Obama is going to make a great president… what poise, what a cl*****y man!!
    WHY DOES MCBLINK BLINK SO MUCH THAT GETS ME NERVOUS.
  109. Wordz Of a Prophet (It's GOTTA change)
    well Im damn glad that Obama is doing good in the polls cuz we need him in office bad. McCain it’s 2 late to seperate yourself from Bush bcuz where I’m sitting you and dat dude are like twins. So, really get over yourself 4real man cuz it’s a wrap homie
    OBAMA ‘08
  110. At this point in the game you know who you’re voting for; so I don’t know why these so called undecided’s get on TV to talk about why they’re unsure. I call bull*****. They just want to get on TV and have 4 minutes of fame cause they’re minds are already made it. Voting is an intuitive thing and not really based on whether a candidate knows their issues.
    It’s like c’mon on now. Barack has been consistent and has laid it all out and you still can’t make a choice two weeks before the election? Either you’re dumb as hell or racist as hell!
  111. Go Phillies!! WORLD SERIES BABY!!!!!
    I think Obama did good last night…
    McCain always tries to attack him every chance he gets, he is very condescending (spell check) and he interrupted him so many times…that man is just rude!
    Well, it’s too late to come correct old man, try again in 4 years. We do think that “erratic” McLame would beat Obama’s a*s in a one on one scrap, that’s about it.
  116. SWAG-a-licious
    Couple of key point…
    1) Joe “the plumber was on GMA this morning and he lives in a trailer park…HE DOES NOT MAKE 250K, this was a hypothetical conversion and he was PLANTED at a rally by the republican party. HE ADMITTED THAT HE WAS DIRECTLY CONTACTED BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY..
    AGAIN, Joe’s taxes will not go up because he lives in a trailer park and makes less than $30K a year as most plumbers do (at least this is what he reported to the IRS, someone should have told Joe that his taxes would be reveiwed more closely…tsk…tsk)
    2)Joe the Plumber is not a REGISTERED VOTER IN OHIO. NOT AT ALL….now he is saying that his name is not even Joe but it is Sam….SAM “THE PLUMBER” IS NOT A REGISTERED VOTER IN OHIO….Republicans…again did not do their homework…
    3)Joe the plumber will now be paid by the Republican party to make appearances with MsSame….this part of the game is called the “come up” for Joe the Plumber.
  117. Go Phillies!! WORLD SERIES BABY!!!!!
    At first I admired this guy for asking Obama a question, and I applauded Obama for answering him. I thought it was a good blow to the Republicans and how they keep implying Barack is too afraid to be in a Town Hall meeting with “real Americans”…
    Rumors on the blogosphere say that Joe the Plumber is related to Charles Keating…… I can’t wait to see where this goes!!!
    And what really, really p!ssed me off was how John McCain kept mentioning autism and saying Sarah Palin understands a parent of autistic children’s plight, I was like BULL*****!!!!!! I have a cousin with autism, and he’s just throwing that out because it’s the “fashionable” disease. People with autism are not retarded, and I’ve already read online how parents raising children with autism are livid!!!! McCain had so many opportunities to clean up his answers and respond well, but he didn’t.
    The Joe Plumber thing was the end of the line for their campaign. This guy is going to get them in a lot of trouble.
    Good morning, everyone :)
    @Black.Woman
    Thanks for your eloquence in addressing Real Conservative, lol. No, I’m not supporting Obama because he’s black — I’m supporting him because I believe he’s the best candidate to lead this nation. I was an ardent supporter of Bill Clinton (I was a “Clintonista” for years), Gore, and Kerry — all white male candidates whose vision reflected my ideology. The fact that Obama has a darker skin tone has nothing to do with the fact that his policies are more in line with what I think many people want in their lives.
    On another note, I thought McCain looked more irritable and annoyed last night than in any other debate. The contrast was striking.
    @WhatsYoursIsMine
    I’m going to have to check out that rumor you heard about Joe the Plumber. On MSNBC this morning, Chuck Todd said he came across a memo for a McCain focus group that said that neither the Joe reference nor the Ayers mention seem to have worked. All the polls, including Fox News, favored Obama last night.
    Todd also said that if Obama wins Virginia, the race is over. There’s a story in the Washington Post today about 500,000 new voters have registered in Va., and that favors the Democrats. There’s still a lot of work to be done, though.
  152. Jacki2000
    Joe W. aka Joe the plumber doesn’t know who he is voting for!!! I am a neighbor and this morning I asked him how hw like the new publicity and fame. His response was he just wants what is best for us a Americans. He is a democrat too!!!!!!
  153. Wordz Of a Prophet (It's GOTTA change)
    Autism aint the only disease plaguing kids these days Here’s just a list
    Down Syndrome
    Epilepsy
    ADD
    ADHD
    mental disorders
    dislexia
    bipolar disorder
    dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalites)
    severe mental psychosis
    and all the other things that children are born with and people still don’t know why. AUTISM is not the only disease affecting children right now.So is mcCain saying that if your child was born with down syndrome or fluid around their brain, it don’t really matter cuz Autism is the only thing they are looking at. Palin don’t know as much as she’d like to thik about Autism bcuz if she was playing governor of Alaska n ish she really ain’t had that much time with her autistic kid as say IDK the mom who’s there with their kid damn near every waking moment of the day.
    I mean I realize there are racist blacks as well. I guess its just that your situation is so out of the norm, because if I was married to a white guy that was a racist, he wouldn’t approve of me hanging around black ppl. The white side of my family like my aunts and stuff, I’ve never heard them say anything racist or off the mark about blacks, and they are from the deep south. Oh well I guess its just ppls morals that make them use such a negative term towards an individual.
  156. Go Phillies!! WORLD SERIES BABY!!!!!
    What black person really sits there and talk about how John McCain is white and how they hate that he is white…I don;t think we do that…we see him as a Republican WAY before we see him as being white…so for a white person to sit and dislike Obama and call himt he N-WORD..AND OBAMA IS HALF WHITE!!! That doesn’t make any sense to me
  157. SWAG-a-licious
    @ Oshie…HE DOES KNOW WHAT HE IS SAYING..and your daughter has heard him say it…
    I think if you really want to help the cause…you would be trying to persuade more white people in the south to see THAT THEY ARE RASCIST…
    Remember there were many white people helping on the underground railroad…I see you are the type to just sit back and watch…
    I don’t have a problem with that…honestly…but I am the type of black person who is out in my community..registering voters, helping high school kids fill out financial aid forms and speaking on the imporatance of higher education for EVERYONE, and speaking out against Gang violence in the community and in the schools specifically…
    I see you just blog on bossip….to each is own…i guest…
    Well, the point is, people around HERE use the word haphazardly. He uses it around his black friends. They use it around him. My black friends call me out of my name or make jokes about me being white, and I either take it with a grain of salt or laugh. I don’t use the word unless I’m quoting somebody because that’s how I was raised. I can’t defend my husband, but he is certainly not a Klan member.
  160. Sydney
    Hey I’m Just Me!
    I also read this story this morning and was incensed, particularly after McCain hammered Obama for a repudiation of John Lewis’s remarks. I agree with what Roland Martin said on CNN last night, if McCain wants an apology, he should call Lewis himself.
    From the AP:
    The Secret Service is looking into a second allegation that a parti*****nt at a Republican political rally shouted “kill him,” referring to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
    The Scranton Times-Tribune reported that someone in the crowd shouted “kill him” after the mention of Obama’s name during a rally Tuesday for GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in Scranton, Pa.
    Last week, The Washington Post reported a similar incident during a Palin rally in Clearwater, Fla. The Secret Service investigated that allegation and found no indication that “kill him” was ever said, or if it was said, that the remark was directed at Obama.
    Listening to tapes of that rally, the Secret Service heard “tell him” or “tell them,” but agents never heard “kill him,” Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told The *****ociated Press on Wednesday.
    In both the Clearwater and the Scranton instances, the Service only learned of the alleged threats through media reports.
    “We would ask that anyone overhearing threatening language bring it to the attention of the Secret Service or other law enforcement at the event immediately,” Zahren said.
    Ok, I am tryin to not be one dimensional with this and process what you are telling me. I don’t want to be hypocritical.
    With that being said, I know alot of black ppl that don’t ***** with white ppl and no I have not cut them out of my life even though I don’t mind white ppl…..mostly bc it did not concern me. But I have never dated a black man who goes around screaming cracker all day. I doubt I would simply bc its just ridiculous to me to harbor so much negativity in you against a group of ppl. But again, perhaps I am being hypocritical….cuz I don’t ***** with hispanics….but still i don’t go around callin them Spics….unless one *****es me off.     I thought this debate was better than the last one. Obama did his thing focusing on the issues while McCain looked desperate. I did think McCain has been practicing his breathing because while he still talked nonsense he looked calmer doing it.
    Thank you for pointing out that there are other childhood illnesses besides autism! I think McCain got confused when he was talking about Palin’s baby and children with autism. The parents of autistic children in my family are not happy. Nor is my best friend’s sister and brother-in-law, who have a child with down’s syndrome. McCain was too busy trying to make quick moves he flustered himself.
    Hello Aunt Viv!
    I also thought the back-and-forth on the Supreme Court on abortion was very telling as well. If McCain were elected, it looks pretty certain that Roe v. Wade would be overturned. That’s another key issue in this election, and one that I think people should think more about — the next president will probably replace at least one, if not more, of the current justices, as they retire, etc. That’s of huge importance.
    I don’t think some of McCain’s remarks last night are going to play well with some undecided women voters.
    @Oshie…I am not judging you…
    I’m just saying I bet in the 70’s your husbands parents were saying “we don’t talk like this around our kids” and see how your husband picked up on the hate….
    Educating your kids that your husband, his family, his friends, etc are rascist – that’s about all that you can do honestly…
    It doesn’t sound like you think that he is a rascist and that is my point,…if you don’t know – how will your daughter know?
    In Oshie’s defense what some of y’all fail to realize is that Black People only make up 13% of the population… With that being the case – there are some parts of the country where white people don’t interact with Black people on the regular to find out that we are basically the same when it all boils down to it = i.e., want the best for ourselves & family, etc – but that we are different via cultural differences…
    The only thing that some people know about Black People is what they see on TV — REMEMBER we only make up 13% of the population…
    The fact is more than half the people we interact with are black and like I said they call us names, we call them names, we’re friends, we’re co-workers, we don’t have a secret Klan life, this is just the way it is in the South.     Watching the debate was painful…….. only because McCain lost so badly. McCain had a script. Obama had plans, detailed those plans; but most importantly Obama knew McCain’s plans, detailed THEM.
    Obama studied. Obama was debating. McCain was not prepared at all. I don’t know what the ***** McCain did. Obama knew what he was talking about, whether or not you agreed with them.
    I would love to see Obama take on George Bush, just because Bush is even faker and more *****holean than McCain. Then again, McCain himself said (ha ha) that Obama should have ran 4 years ago.
    The saddest thing of all for me is that there is NO way a black would have been able to have McCain’s performance, with a white giving Obama’s performance — and the black getting anyone to say there’s still a tie or that the black won. And there are STILL people saying McCain won, McCain wiped the floor with Obama (b.s.!) and are going to vote McCain over Obama. The people who fill this country suck, sometimes.
    In Oshie’s defense what some of y’all fail to realize is that Black People only make up 13% of the population… With that being the case – there are some parts of the country where white people don’t interact with Black people on the regular to find out that we are basically the same when it all boils down to it = i.e., want the best for ourselves & family, etc – but that we are different via cultural differences…
    The only thing that some people know about Black People is what they see on TV — REMEMBER we only make up 13% of the population…
    For those of you that travel, just think about how you’re stared at and how others approach you with trepidation or ask you ridiculous a$$ questions…
    I’m from the South, and I have had the experience of being called the N-word on more than one occasion (and that’s why I strongly object to blacks using that ugly term in reference to other blacks — it’s not a term of endearment, in my book), and my parents grew up in the Jim Crow South, so racial slurs are nothing out of the norm to me. But that doesn’t excuse the use of them, or the fact that ignorance is certainly not bliss.
    We’re increasingly a nation of people of color. According to the U.S. Census, by 2050, whites will be in the minority, and that’s a fact that I think terrifies a lot of people, and piling on the possibility of an African-American president has put some people over the edge.
    From NBC’s Carrie Dann and Domenico Montanaro
    Wondering what you’ll hear from the pre-debate spinners? Whoops! This morning, the Obama camp mistakenly distributed some talking points meant for staff eyes only. The pointers spell out how the campaign hopes to focus on McCain’s “erratic” response to the economic crisis and his expected aggressiveness in tonight’s debate.
    Here are the talking points accidentally sent out to a distribution list of reporters by an Obama flack this morning. In bold red lettering atop the email: “Reminder: These are for staff only and not for distribution.”
    *This is John McCain’s last chance to turn this race around and somehow convince the American people that his erratic response to this economic crisis doesn’t disqualify him from being President.
    *Just this weekend the weekend, John McCain vowed to “whip Obama’s you-know-what” at the debate, and he’s indicated that he’ll be bringing up Bill Ayers to try to distract voters.
    *So we know that Senator McCain will come ready to attack Barack Obama and bring his dishonorable campaign tactics to the debate stage.
    *Obama continues to lead on the economic crisis with a rescue plan for Main Street.
    *Over the course of the campaign, Barack Obama has laid out a set of policies that will grow our middle cl***** and strengthen our economy.
    *But he knows we face an immediate economic emergency that requires urgent action – on top of the plans he’s already laid out – to help workers and families and communities struggling right now.
    *That’s why Barack Obama is introducing a comprehensive four-part Rescue Plan for the Middle Cl***** – to immediately to stabilize our financial system, provide relief to families and communities, and help struggling homeowners.
    *This is a plan that can and should be implemented immediately.
    *Obama has shown steady leadership during this crisis and offered concrete solutions to move the country forward – and his Rescue Plan for the Middle Cl***** builds on the plans to strengthen the economy and rebuild the middle cl***** that he’s laid out over the course of this campaign.
    *Already in this campaign, he’s unveiled plans to give 95 percent of workers and their families a tax cut, eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000, bring down the cost of health care for families and businesses; and create millions of new jobs by investing in the renewable energy sources.
    *John McCain has been erratic and unsteady since this crisis began – staggering from position to position and trying to change the subject away from the economy by launching false character attacks.
    No, you didn’t say McCocaine, lol. Isn’t Cindy the one who had problems with drugs, uh, nevermind. . .
    Look at this — it looks like Obama is going to be on Fox soon:
    NEW YORK — Barack Obama might have the power to move the World Series by a few minutes.
    To accommodate a half-hour Obama time buy on Fox on Oct. 29, Major League Baseball has agreed to move the start time of World Series Game 6 by about 15 minutes. That would move the start of the game from 8:20 p.m. ET or so to 8:35 p.m.
    “Fox will accommodate Senator Obama’s desire to communicate with voters in this longform format,” Fox Sports said in a statement. “We are pleased that Major League Baseball has agreed to delay the first pitch of World Series Game 6 for a few minutes in order for Fox to carry his program on Oct. 29. If requested, the network would be willing to make similar time available to Senator McCain’s campaign.”
    Along with CBS and NBC, Fox was approached by the Obama campaign last week to purchase the 8-8:30 p.m. time slot Oct. 29. If a Game 6 is needed, Fox is obligated to carry the game. That prevented the network from agreeing outright to carry the commercial, which was cleared by CBS and NBC last Thursday.
    Unfortunately, some of us support some of those stereotypical dipictions…
    *The funny thing about the stereotypical behavior that some of us exhibit comes from people NOT even from the hood and raised just the opposite…
    I’m happy that the country sees Obama for who he is and realize that he’s a GOOD man who is qualified and competent to lead this country in the direction that it should be going in and get us out of this hole that stupid a$$ Bush has gotten us into (we started with a surplus now we’re in the BIGGEST deficit) and that MOST of them aren’t trippin’ off of his skin color…
    To be honest with you, I’m surprised by Obama’s success – I had NO idea and/or confidence in the people of this country to be so accepting of him… Honestly, I thought the most votes we (a Black Person) would get on the national scene would be on American Idol (*when Reuben Stoddard won) and that’s it…
    I hate the smirk on McCain’s face because he knows that the USA is *****ed up and he may pull this out.     I understand your perspective, and I’m just sharing mine. My father also expressed prejudices while I was growing up based on what he experienced in the Jim Crow South when the N-word was a staple in the local lexicon when it came to blacks. He grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood and went to predominantly black schools, and when he did interact with whites, he had some — not all — very painful experiences.
    I think, although racism still exists, I think people of the younger generation have been exposed to diversity on a much greater scale in general. Yes, there are many parts of the country where whites seldom, if ever, come into contact with blacks, and vice versa. I just think that in terms of the man that I allow in my life as my mate should have a knowledge of other cultures, even if he has not lived with people within that culture. With the Internet and proliferation of other sources of information, I just think that being educated on these issues is much easier than it was in generations past. I think it’s general knowledge that the use of the N-word and other racial slurs is widely viewed as unacceptable and unseemly, and it doesn’t reflect well on the person who uses them.
    @ Sydney, I agree, and I have professed that my husband is in fact an *****hole. I have also stated (and pardon me if I get defensive, but if you have kids you understand) that I am NOT going to tolerate use of that word around my daughter, or the mindset that goes along with it. The way he uses it is in a joking way, and he does in fact talk like that around his black friends, and I’ve seen them call him out of his name right back. Blacks and whites are very intermixed where I live, however what is more unacceptable than using racial slurs is mixed couples, both blacks and whites look down upon it, which I think is extremely sad and speaks volumes on our society’s unbalanced values. What’s more important, a word or who you choose to marry? Words are powerful as Black.Woman is demonstrating, but as realwoman is demonstrating it’s easy to pick one target for all your anger and frustration. But if it makes you feel better, than I’ll gladly be the scapegoat. I have bigger concerns than what some lady on the internet thinks of me. But I also feel compelled to say to the REST of you that THIS IS THE WAY WHITE AND BLACK PEOPLE ARE IN THEIR PRIVATE LIVES. JUST BECAUSE I PUT IT ON BLAST DON’T GET MAD AT ME.
  298. Sydney
    And I also want to say, and this isn’t directed at anyone in particular, that I disagree with the opinion of some non-blacks that listening to rap and looking at black shows and movies is somehow a view into African-American culture. I do think that there are a lot of negative stereotypes floating around about blacks based on what is seen and heard in popular culture — but all that has very little to do with the totality of the black experience and the history of African Americans in this country.
    I watched Morning Joe on MSNBC this morning, and I cringed when a white commentator remarked on the changes in depictions of blacks in popular culture and the impact on Obama, and mentioned Denzel, Morgan Freeman, and The Cosby Show. Why are black actors even being referenced in the same sentence as a black presidential candidate? All these men have in common is that they have the same skin tone, nothing else. Obama has as much in common with Denzel Washington, as McCain does with Sean Connery.
Capital Gain tax breaks only benefit you when you property has appreciated over $250,000 and $500,000 in value! I do Real Estate, aint no way in hell will we experience an increase in value like that in at least the next 15 to 25 years. Write off for stock losses…I gotta see the fine print on this one, becaue you mean to tell me that a person can write off $25,000 in losses and can get some of that back during tax time?   308. Marquis de Sade
    Me being a libertarian, here’s my take on the whole “JOE THE PLUMBER” *****ogy and the dubious economical ideologies of both candidates:
    Couple things to keep in mind: 1) I’m not an economist. 2) Talking about wanting to buy a business that makes $250k is usually a (minimally) a 2-1 or a 4-1 investment meaning that if it’s worth $250k, you’d pay $500k to over a million for the business, if not more. This is not a subtle point and perhaps a business entrepreneur here can further elaborate on these concepts.
  309. Marquis de Sade
    If the plumbing business has infrastructure capital like trucks and a working a staff, a “storefront” office, etc, that cost is likely to be much much higher, so then we start talking about this guy paying upwards of at least $3mill or even more for this business. He states that Obama’s plan would prevent him buying the business but the difference in taxes (from what I understand) goes from 36% (under $250k) to 39% (over $250k) so is 3% really a deal-breaker? Plus there’s the notion of what exactly is going to be taxed. Are we talking gross profits? Health benefits paid to employees? There’s so much more involved then just thinking, here’s this guy who makes less than $250k as a plumber, who wants to save/invest and buy the company he works for which is supposedly a private firm valued at $250,000 (the ‘magic’ number). Again, it is far more than just a couple numbers that go into calculating whether or not he would be adversely affected by Obama’s tax plan. Or McCain’s for that matter.
    All the money and well paid teachers in the world wont fix our educational system…
    What about the child that goes home with nothing to eat, dirty bed sheets with bed bugs, no mother, no father to help them with their homework no food to eat, a home environment full of discord, dirty clothes…
    Solving these problems are the most inportant keys to our childrens education.
  313. Marquis de Sade
    The neo-con mantra has been to equivocate HUGE business as *small* business which allows the big businesses to go bat***** at everyone’s expense (but their own). The same rules that prevent BIG business screwing us all can also hurt small businesses.
  314. Marquis de Sade
    But it seems like this was done for the purpose of changing views so we don’t punish the small business, which is a good thing of course! But then, with the intent of not restricting small businesses, we unleash the big businesses and they make a mockery of those small business profits but pretend they’re the exact same thing, deserving the same latitude and same lack of regulations.
    You can speak of being the champion of the underdog while blowing and spooning the overdog but sooner or later, all people, including small business owners, catch on and take their votes elsewhere. All the conjecture and finger pointing and ceaseless whining about how each candidate is gonna screw us all until we’re dead is nonsense. The debates are nonsense. The whole process has become a machined and contrived monstrosity that, by it’s existence, subverts true democracy. And for what? Profit? Entertainment? Partisan vindication? If I stop to think about any of these guys having genuinely *****le and good intentions for the country and her people and it always seems delusional at worst, and perhaps blindly optimistic at best? Polishing the br***** on the Titanic indeed!
    Although you may not feel as though you have the right to cast judgement, you are most certainly entitled to you opinion. As is anyone else, and I find it hard to believe that someone who has engrained a certain type of behavior to be permissable over a long period of time is capable of refraining from it.     Yes, I’ve heard of both Black Wall Street and Rosewood, and I’m sure you’ve heard of Strivers’ Row, and other important parts of our history. That’s the part of African-American culture that I wish was more widely known.
    Thanks, Daywalker :)
    @Oshie
    I think both the word and general racial intolerance are both important issues. I know that there are blacks who don’t mind being called a “Ni**a” — and you will see that term used ad nauseam on this site. From my own perspective, knowing the history of the N-word and how it has been used throughout history repels me from accepting its usage, just as I would the use of any other slur. When it was directed at me during my childhood, there was no endearment attached to it, it was hurled at me out of anger and ignorance. And it hurt because I knew the person who called me that term didn’t know me and only saw a girl with a different skin tone. It was dehumanizing.
    I think we are all the sum total of our experiences, and my perspective reflects what I have seen and felt, no more, no less. I, in no way, have any right to cast any judgment on your husband or your friends, but I do think it’s important to note that a racial slur is not something that carries no weight.
    ________________________________________________________
    Although you may not feel as though you have the right to cast judgement, you are most certainly entitled to you opinion. As is anyone else, and I find it hard to believe that someone who has engrained a certain type of behavior to be permissable over a long period of time is capable of refraining from it. Even if they are around a child. For example, Crackheads who have children may not do drugs around their children, but their children know what they do.     And how much are we as a people responsible for addressing our own issues, whether or not we have a black president? If elected, dealing with the financial crisis and our gargantuan national deficit is going to tie up Obama for years to come. He will be responsible for governing the nation, not the United Nation of Black Folks. We have to take some responsibility for ourselves. I think this line of thinking is where some conservatives come to the conclusion that we’re looking for some “Black Savior” to deliver us from our ills, and that is self-defeatist reasoning. There are efforts we can forge in our own communities to ameliorate our condition, and we don’t need a black president to do that. Now if Obama were running for NAACP president, that would be another story.
    And I have to ask, as I always do when this question comes up, are you holding McCain to the same standard?
    Not only that, but they should take responsibility for themselves,and not look to have someone do it for them. Now granted, Black communities have numerous societal ills such as prostitution, drug use, gangs etc. But middle cl***** society here as of late has been having the same woes. Case in point: the teenaged white girls fighting with br***** knuckles. So as a whole something needs to be done, but the parenting should start at home. It should not be mandated by government.
    FYI, from MSNBC:
    The McCain camp’s memo: So what did a Minnesota focus group of voters — that McCain’s campaign conducted regarding last night’s debate — say? Well, NBC News has obtained a strategy memo about the findings (some good, some bad, and some obvious). One conclusion from it on health care is an excellent example of how Obama has just dominated an issue that has flown under the media’s radar: The respondents believed Obama’s interpretation of McCain’s health care plan more so than McCain’s interpretation. And that’s not a good sign when your opponent has framed your health care plan for you — but that’s exactly what’s happened. Other intel the McCain camp received from their dial test: Joe the plumber didn’t play as well as hoped (same in media focus groups); Obama successfully deflected Ayers, and there now might not be enough time to fully prosecute the *****ociations strategy.” In the final *****ysis, the campaign is being advised that Obama’s experience and readiness is still something that can be exploited by McCain.
    Not Enough Money in the World: The Real Monster in the Meltdown Closet
    Chris Floyd
    Empire Burlesque
    October 16, 2008
    The myth has quickly taken hold that the global financial crash was caused by bad mortgages. This has allowed rightwing hatemongers to blame the meltdown on the “liberal” programs that encouraged home ownership among a small percentage of lower-income people (a poisonous canard that parts of the mainstream media have actually done a fairly good job of knocking down), while “progressives” of various stripes have denounced banks and other financial institutions for pushing over-easy credit on people who couldn’t really afford it.
    Unsustainable mortgages are a key factor in the global crash, of course. And many people (most of them white, by the way) did take out mortgages they would not be able to afford if the housing bubble ever burst, which it has, most spectacularly. And yes, it is undeniable that the financial services industry has been tempting people with easy credit like schoolyard pushers flashing reefers.
    All of this was bound to end badly, and did. But this alone would not have been enough to threaten the destruction of the entire global financial system, nor cause the blind, screaming panic that has strangulated the financial markets, seized up the vital flow of money between banks, and caused the “free” market-worshipping governments of the Western world to carry out nationalizations and interventions that, in sheer numbers, dwarf anything ever seen following a Communist revolution. (As John Lancaster notes in the London Review of Books, the Bush Administration’s takeover of Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac alone was “was, by cash value, the biggest nationalisation in the history of the world.” And that was just the beginning.)
    What has struck mortal fear in the heart of markets and governments is not bad mortgages, but the almost incomprehensibly huge and complex market for “derivatives,” based in part on mortgage debt — but also on a vast array of other sources that were “securitized,” turned into tradable if ghostly commodities then sold off in a bewildering variety of increasingly arcane forms. This was accompanied by the expansion of yet another vast market in insurance mechanisms designed to protect these derivatives — mechanisms which themselves became “securitized.”
    At the same time, the financial services industry used its paid bagmen in governments around the world to loosen almost all restrictions not only on securitization and the trading of derivatives, but also on the amount of debt that institutions could take on in order to play around in these vastly expanded and deregulated markets. For example, as Lancaster points out, UK’s Barclays Bank had a debt-to-equity ratio of 63 to 1:
    Imagine that for a moment translated to your own finances, so that you could stretch what you actually, unequivocally own to borrow more than sixty times the amount. (I’d have an island. What about you?)
    The result of all this has been the construction of a gargantuan house of cards, based on next to nothing, and left alone in the shadow of building “perfect storm” of greed, deregulation and political corruption.
    That storm has now struck. The house of cards has fallen down, and revealed a hole of derivatives-based debt that could not be filled, literally, by all the money in the world, much less by the mere trillions that national governments are frantically throwing at it today.
    Yes, “mere” trillions. As Will Hutton explains in the Observer:
    …the dark heart of the global financial system [is] the $55 trillion market in credit derivatives and, in particular, credit default swaps, the mechanisms routinely used to insure banks against losses on risky investments. This is a market more than twice the size of the combined GDP of the US, Japan and the EU. Until it is cleaned up and the toxic threat it poses is removed, the pandemic will continue. Even nationalised banks, and the countries standing behind them, could be overwhelmed by the scale of the losses now emerging.
    Try to imagine that: a $55 trillion market now at risk of complete destruction. Even the derivative debt owed by individual institutions stands at nation-wrecking levels. For example, a single bank in Britain, Barclays again, holds more than $2.4 trillion in credit default swaps, the tradable “insurance” mechanism against securities default. This is more than the entire GDP of Great Britain. If all this paper goes bad, there are not enough *****ets in the entire country to pay it off. And that’s just one bank, in one country.
    Hutton gives the details:
    This market in credit derivatives has grown explosively over the last decade largely in response to the $10 trillion market in securitised *****ets – the packaging up of income from a huge variety of sources (office rents, port charges, mortgage payments, sport stadiums) and its subsequent sale as a ’security’ to be traded between banks.
    Plainly, these securities are risky, so the markets invented a system of insurance. A buyer of a securitised bond can purchase what is in effect an insurance contract that will protect him or her against default – a credit default swap (CDS). But unlike the comprehensive insurance contract on your car which you have with one insurance company, these credit default contracts can be freely bought and sold. Complex mathematical models are continually *****essing the risk and comparing it to market prices. If the risk falls, the CDSs are cheap; if the risk rises – because, say, a credit rating agency declares the issuing company is less solid – the price rises. Hedge funds speculate in them wildly.
    Their purpose was a market solution to make securitisation less risky; in fact, they make it more risky, as we are now witnessing. The collapse of Lehman Brothers – the refusal to bail it out has had cataclysmic consequences – means that it can no longer honour $110bn of bonds, nor $440bn of CDSs it had written. On Friday, the dud contracts were auctioned, with buyers paying a paltry eight cents for every dollar. Put another way, there is now a $414bn hole which somebody holding these contracts has to honour. And if your head is spinning now, add the three bust Icelandic banks. They can no longer honour more than $50bn of bonds, nor a mind-boggling $200bn of CDSs….
    While every bank tries to p***** the toxic parcel on to somebody else, the system has to find the money. So will compensation for the near valueless contracts and thus now uninsured debt ultimately be made – and by whom? And because *****ody knows – not the regulators, banks or governments – who owns the swaps and whether they are credit-worthy, *****ody can answer the question. Maybe holders of insurance policies will get the cash due to them, but will that weaken somebody else? The result – panic.
    This is the ultra-dangerous downward vortex in which the system is locked. It is why share prices are plummeting. As recession deepens, there will be defaults on securitised bonds and the potential collapse of more banks outside the G7 ring-fence. *****ody knows what proportion of the $55 trillion of credit default contracts that have actually been written will be honoured and who might bear losses running into trillions of dollars.
    This is the beast in the dark that is haunting the *****less leaders of the developed world: $55 trillion of unaccountable debt, and no way of knowing how much of it is even now being flushed down the toilet, taking the global economy with it.
    The m*****ive interventions we are seeing might stabilize the markets temporarily, or at least arrest their free fall long enough to come up with some kind of m*****ive restructuring of the global financial system. Or they might not. For it is by no means certain that the wisdom, and the political courage, to come up with a more viable system can be found among the world’s political leaders — all of whom, as we noted here the other day, have risen within the present system and, to one degree or another, owe their own power and privilege to the “malefactors of great wealth” and the extremist cult of market fundamentalism. There is no indication anywhere that the circle of collusion and corruption between governments and Big Money has even lessened, much less been broken, by the economic catastrophe. All of the various bailout plans and “coordinated actions” still have as their chief aim the preservation of the malefactors in their current state of wealth, privilege and domination. As Jonathan Schwarz notes:
    Still, U.S. elites will try to impose as much of a structural adjustment as they can get away with, in order to make the bottom 80% of America pay the price for the elites’ spectacular screw-ups. The Washington Post has already started writing about how the current crisis demonstrates that we must cut Social Security. Look for much more of this to come.
    The only slim hope we have for any genuine reform — even an imperfect, conflicted, compromised reform, which is the only kind we will ever have in this world, until the lion lies down with the lamb — is that the sheer scale of the real problem — the $55 trillion beast, the very real potential for the complete destruction of the global economy, and the state power that depends upon it — might force some politicians to turn apostate, renounce the market cult, and bite the hands that have fed them for so long.
    Absent this near-miraculous possibility, we will be left with yet another rickety house of cards, slapped together on the fly — largely at the malefactors’ direction and for their benefit — while the beast gapes wide his ponderous jaws, and prepares to swallow us whole.
  360. BE
    @Eddie – Maybe they were referring to a start up small business. I agree that the $250,000 they are talking about is probably after expenses so the business actually made more. I don’t know the statistics on small businesses though, but i did have the same thought – $250,000 after payroll, expenses etc
    No Dog in this Fight
    P Jerome
    Information Clearing House
    October 16, 2008
    For those of us who are ANTIwar, ANTI-government spying, ANTI-torture/rendition, and in favor of improving the lives of working people, this election season has been a NIGHTMARE. Most presidential elections are awful — months/years of COMMERCIALS, PUNDITRY, AND LYING — but this year is particularly terrible.
    Contrary to the accepted “wisdom” of the electoral experts, Americans are not so divided as we might seem. MORE THAN 80% OF US OPPOSE THE WAR IN IRAQ, with the majority wanting immediate withdrawl (not “redeployment”). Larger majorities want an end to government wiretapping (and vociferously opposed the wiretapping immunity bill), a SCALED-BACK military budget, and universal health care that excludes the insurance industry. Further, almost NO ONE outside the beltway or the NY financial district bought into the “crisis” that mandated a $850 billion bailout for Wall Street.
    These are not complicated positions, but we are given the “choice” between John “Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” McCain and Barack “Threats in 100 different countries” Obama. McCain is beyond the pale for any but the proto-fascists among us, and even they have reservations about his health and sanity. But to question whether the potential ascension of “Saint Barack” is a good thing, to put into the play of questions of his militarism and support for authoritarianism at home, or to outright oppose his candidacy based on lies and war-mongering, is to invite the wrath of the “good liberal” majority.
    Beginning with his 2004 convention speech when he called for “missile strikes” against Iran and Pakistan, through his 2008 convention speech imploring America to recognize the “threats of tomorrow,” Mr. Obama has based his candidacy no less on fear and militarism than the dreaded Republicans. After explaining to a liberal friend that Mr. Obama called for an additional 92,000 troops for the military, for expansion of the genocide in Afghanistan into Pakistan, and an accelerated war on terror in 100 countries (up from Cheney’s 60-country target list), she simply nodded and said, “This is what you have to say to get elected.” Say what?
    I see. To appeal to the m***** of the electorate, you have to take positions they oppose. This twisted “logic” would also seem to include supporting the Wall Street bailout and the wiretapping bill, in which Obama invested significant time and energy. In my naivete, I thought that any compromise geared toward “winning the election” by this logic meant taking populist positions that a candidate might otherwise not adopt. Yet here, Mr. Obama takes anti-populist positions to…win the election?
    A candidate for office can only be judged on what he/she says he believes and says he will do, and on his/her track recrod. We have nothing else. In the case of Obama, we are supposed to believe he says and acts on motives other than his core beliefs for unstated other reasons. This is, I respectfully submit, nonsense.
    When he voted for the wiretap bill, he said he wanted to have all “necessary tools” at his disposal for an Obama presidency. When he calls for more “boots on the ground” in Afghanistan, or for “missile strikes” in Pakistan, or “keeping the nuclear option on the table” in Iran, he means what he is saying. His vision is of an imperial America on the march, waging war in pursuit of unspecified “threats” with a bigger, better managed military. That vision includes domestic spying and austerity budgets for the foreseeable future.
    So where does this leave that part of America that opposes wars of aggression, torture, extraordinary rendition, and the war on terror? Where does it leave people who want to resist domestic wiretapping or oppose sacrificing our futures for Wall Street profits? I know the drill: hold your nose and vote Democratic …again.
    No, not this time, and never again. The majority of us do not have a dog in this billion-dollar electoral fight, and the majority will not vote at all, and why should they? If McCain wins, more war and more austerity. If Obama wins, even more war and even more austerity, but with no political opposition. By November 5, the same people will be controlling our lives, regardless of the election outcome. Real power never gets voted out of office. It must be confronted and overturned.
    Yes, I think some parents expect schools to perform near-miracles, yet some of them don’t even attend PTA meetings or monitor their children’s homework. Education is a team effort, and it doesn’t stop when the school bell rings.
    Speaking of the Obama Effect, Donna Brazile has a nice commentary, “America Is Ready for the Obama Effect,” on CNN(dot)com. I love this sista:
    From the beginning of this electoral season, pollsters and pundits alike have warned that Obama needs a six- to nine-point lead to overcome the so-called “Bradley Effect,” which is nothing more than a sanitary way of saying people are hung up about race.
    The effect is named after Tom Bradley, the 1982 California gubernatorial candidate who led in the polls right up until the votes were counted.
    While willing to tell pollsters they would vote for a minority candidate, the theory goes, some California voters just couldn’t stomach casting a ballot for a black man once the curtain was drawn and *****ody was looking.
    But what if the Bradley Effect were mere folklore? What if it proved to be less like the immutable laws of physics and more like an electoral version of the Loch Ness monster or, even more fantastical, Gov. Sarah Palin’s foreign policy expertise as a result of her proximity to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s flight path?
    Lance Tarrance, who was Bradley opponent George Deukmejian’s lead pollster in 1982, wrote an article recently stating that the disparity between polling and electoral results in that campaign was as the result of bad polling, not racism. He posits that Bradley was always within the statistical margin of error and that his loss reflected nothing more than the inherent weaknesses of polling data in a close election.
    Even if there were a Bradley Effect in effect in 1982, there is no evidence that it still exists today. Think of it: The 1980s were a time of recession, high gas prices and questionable fashion sense. Oh wait, perhaps those are bad examples of how much the country has changed in the ensuing quarter-century.
    There are, however, a multitude of examples to prove just how far we’ve come in the past 26 years. The first and most visible: Barack Obama. iReport.com: Cornell students agree that Obama won final debate
    There was no way either major party would have nominated a black man for president of the United States in the 1980s. The Rev. Jesse Jackson’s historic campaign was as close as we came, and it was symbolic at best.
    You keep saying that its not fair that people making 250k have to pay more. well life isnt fair. the point obama is making is that those people can afford to give a little extra, the rest of us really cant. we are talking about kids getting fed here. and i dont think the upper cl***** is getting punished, yeah they may work hard but so do poor people, i see people at the crack of dawn out breaking there backs in the fields, or working double shifts at restaraunt. and these people who are busting their *****es, are making minimum wage, and struggling to feed their families. that is the point. obama is saying, it is time for people to help out. you make 250k but want a tax break, so you can buy a range rover instead of a lexus. please, that is not patriotic. true patriotism is wanting to help your country and the people in it, not just the people that live like you. most people are struggling to live, and its not because they are lazy, the lower cl***** is full of the hardest working people in the US and you truly are ignorant if you believe otherwise. and there are a lot of rich people that got their jobs, money, and life just handed to them because they have opportunities that the rest of us dont. it is so sad to hear how much people just dont give a dam about poor people. people arent looking for a handout. you should go to the lower income neighborhoods and spend some time there… and god forbid mccain wins, you can look those kids in the eyes and tell them they will not have dinner tonight because you and your friends believe they are lazy and do not derseve a “handout”
  379. ‘Joe the Plumber’ says he has no plumbing license By JOHN SEEWER, *****ociated Press Writer
    13 minutes ago
    HOLLAND, Ohio – Joe the Plumber said Thursday he doesn’t have a license and doesn’t need one. Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, the nickname Republican John McCain bestowed on him during Wednesday’s presidential debate, said he works for a small plumbing company that does residential work. Because he works for someone else, he doesn’t need a license, he said.
    But the county Wurzelbacher and his employer live in, Lucas County, requires plumbers to have licenses. Neither Wurzelbacher nor his employer are licensed there, said Cheryl Schimming of Lucas County Building Regulations, which handles plumber licenses in parts of the county outside Toledo.
    Wurzelbacher, who voted in the Republican primary and indicated he backed McCain, was cited by the GOP presidential candidate as an example of someone who wants to buy a plumbing business but would be hurt by Democrat Barack Obama’s tax plans. Wurzelbacher said he was surprised that his name was mentioned so many other times.
    “That bothered me. I wished that they had talked more about issues that are important to Americans,” he told reporters gathered outside his home.
    Wurzelbacher, 34, said he doesn’t have a good plan put together on how he would buy Newell Plumbing and Heating in nearby Toledo.
    He said the business consists of owner Al Newell and him. Wurzelbacher said he’s worked there for six years and that the two have talked about his taking it over at some point.
    “There’s a lot I’ve got to learn,” he said.
    Wurzelbacher said he started his day with an early morning workout and came back to his suburban Toledo home to do live interviews with TV networks.
    Reporters camped out by his house overnight and by midmorning there were 21 people on his driveway surrounding him, holding cameras and notebooks.
    Wurzelbacher said he’s feeling overwhelmed.
    “I’m kind of like Britney Spears having a headache. Everybody wants to know about it,” he joked.
    In Toledo on Sunday, Wurzelbacher told Obama that he was preparing to buy the plumbing company, which earns more than $250,000 a year, and said: “Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?”
    Obama said that under his proposal taxes on any revenue from $250,000 on down would stay the same, but that amounts above that level would be subject to a 39 percent tax, instead of the current 36 percent rate.
    Wurzelbacher said Obama’s tax plan wouldn’t affect him right now, because he doesn’t make $250,000. “But I hope someday I’ll make that,” he said.
    “If you believed (Obama), I’d be receiving his tax cuts,” Wurzelbacher said. “But I don’t look at it that way. He’d still be hurting others.”
    As he leaned against the Dodge Durango SUV parked in his driveway Thursday morning, Wurzelbacher indicated to reporters who crowded around that he was a conservative, a fan of the military and McCain. He said meeting McCain would be an honor but said he hadn’t been contacted by the Republican campaign.
    Still, the plumber wouldn’t say who he was voting for and brushed off a question about whether he could influence the election or other voters.
    “I don’t have a lot of pull. It’s not like I’m Matt Damon,” Wurzelbacher said.
    “I just hope I’m not making too much of a fool of myself,” he added.
    ******************************************************************************************************
    Joe Wurzelbacher – immortalized during tonight’s presidential debate as “Joe The Plumber” – spoke with CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric shortly after the conclusion of the final debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.
    To get a sense of just how central Wurzelbacher was to the debate, consider this: McCain and Obama mentioned Wurzelbacher 26 times during the 90 minute debate. By contrast, Iraq came up six times, and the word “economy” was used 16 times.
    While still on the air, Couric asked Wurzelbacher what he thought of the debate. He said he wasn’t swayed either way, though he seems to be leaning towards one of the candidates.
    “I mean I have a pretty good idea who I’m going to vote for but you know that’s my – you know, the nice thing about going into the booth is only me and the lever knows,” he said. “I think McCain did a fine job this evening, I think he brought up some good points. I do like his health care and I do like his, where he stands on taxes.”
    The conversation continued on Couric’s webcast. Here’s the full transcript of that exchange, along with video:
    COURIC: We want to go to Joe the plumber, Joe Wurzelbacher from Toledo, Ohio, because Joe is telling me that he’s got three live trucks parked outside his house – actually from Holland, Ohio, let me correct that, Joe. Was this a bit of a surreal experience, hearing your name mentioned not once, but twice, but almost half a dozen times during the course of this debate, Joe?
    Mr. JOSEPH WURZELBACHER: Yeah, actually, surreal’s a good word to use for it. It was – you know, I was glad I was able to act as some type of point, you know, to where they could sit there and hammer out what they both think, what they want to say. But ultimately, you know, the important part was the debate.
    COURIC: And again, why don’t you just reiterate quickly for us, Joe, because I want you to get back, get to your local news station where you are, how you felt about the statements made by the candidates vs. the statements you heard when they were out on the campaign trail talking to you.
    WURZELBACHER: One thing I noticed that seemed like Obama changed his mind on offs***** drilling, which I thought was a good move. I don’t know how much he wants to do of it, I’d like to talk to – hear more about that. McCain I – made a solid – you know, McCain was solid in his performance.
    Obama speaks well, but the one thing that’s really important, that everyone in America really need to know is, you know, talk is talk. You know, he can speak pretty, but, you know, there’s got to be action behind it. We’ve seen McCain, we know his actions. Even if you disagree with him, at least you know where he stands. McCain – or Obama, we’re not sure where he stands yet, even after his debates. Like I said, he speaks eloquently, better than I do, but I honestly, I still don’t know where he stands. He’s said a lot, but none of his experience has backed it up. You know, the only experience I’ve seen or his actions are raising our taxes, so, you know, I’m middle cl*****. I can’t have my taxes raised anymore.
    COURIC: Well, he supposedly will raise taxes only on people who make over $250,000 a year. Would you be in that category?
    WURZELBACHER: Not right now at presently, but, you know, question, so he’s going to do that now for people who make $250,000 a year. When’s he going to decide that $100,000 is too much, you know? I mean, you’re on a slippery slope here. You vote on somebody who decides that $250,000 and you’re rich? And $100,000 and you’re rich? I mean, where does it end? You know, that’s – people got to ask that question.
    COURIC: Could you just, Joe, explain quickly, and then we’ll let you go, how you met both of the candidates?
    WURZELBACHER: I’ve yet to meet John McCain. Obama came to my neighborhood and my son and I were outside tossing the football, and all of a sudden he showed up, and there went our football tossing for a while. And, you know, neighbors were outside asking him questions, and I didn’t think they were asking him tough enough questions, so I thought, you know, I’ll go over there. You know, I’ve always wanted to ask one of these guys a question and really corner them and get them to answer a question of–for once instead of tap dancing around it. And unfortunately I asked the question but I still got a tap dance. Do you – almost as good as Sammy Davis Jr.
    COURIC: Joe Wurzelbacher, I mis*****ounced your last name earlier, Joe. Maybe you should fill in on “Meet the Press,” Joe. Or “Face the Nation,” I should add. I know they’re looking for someone on “Meet the Press,” that’s why I said that. Joe, hey…
    WURZELBACHER: Great. I’ve got opinions and I, you know, and that’s it. But I – you know, everyone has opinions.
    COURIC: Yeah, that’s for darn sure. Well, Joe, thanks so much for talking with us. I’ll let you get outside to your local news reporters. And really, I really appreciate your spending some time with us tonight. And now everybody knows your name, at least, right?
    WURZELBACHER: I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but we’ll see how, you know, the future brings.
    COURIC: All right, Joe, thanks very much.
    ******************************************************************************************************Biden: Joe’s not a ‘real’ plumber
    By ANDY BARR | 10/16/08 10:59 AM EDT
    Biden questioned whether Joe Wurzelbacher is a “real” plumber after the Ohio citizen vaulted to the front of campaign dialogue.
    Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden questioned whether Joe “the plumber” Wurzelbacher is a “real” plumber Thursday after the Ohio citizen vaulted to the front of campaign dialogue during the final presidential debate.
    “John [McCain] continues to cling to the notion of this guy Joe the plumber,” Biden said on NBC’s “Today” show. “I don’t have any Joe the plumbers in my neighborhood that make $250,000 a year.”
    “The Joe the plumbers in my neighborhood, the Joe the cops in my neighborhood, the Joe the grocery store owners in my neighborhood, they make, like 98 percent of the small businesses, less than $250,000 a year.”
    A video that shows Wurzelbacher telling Barack Obama earlier this week that the Democrat’s tax plan would prevent him from buying the business he currently works for became an instant YouTube sensation and popular fodder for conservatives.
    Obama told the plumber that it was time to “spread the wealth around,” a phrase McCain and his campaign have been reciting frequently.
    Biden said he isn’t worried that Wurzelbacher would not get a tax cut under Obama’s plan.
    “We think we should give that to the real Joe the plumbers, who make $65,000, $70,000, $80,000 bucks a year,” Biden said on CBS’s “Early Show.”
    During a news conference in front of his home, Wurzelbacher said he is “bothered” that he received more attention than the Iraq war in last night’s debate.
    “I’m completely flabbergasted with this whole thing and just hope I’m not making too much of a fool of myself and hope I can get my message out there,” Wurzelbacher said.
    ******************************************************************************************************
    Joe “The Plumber” Wurzelbacher May or May Not Be Registered to Vote
    Last night’s debate was highlighted by the story of Joe Wurzelbacher, or as John McCain called him “Joe the Plumber.” McCain told the story of how Ohio resident Joe Wurzelbacher wanted to buy the business he had been working at for over a decade, but would be taxed higher due to Barack Obama’s tax plan.
    McCain tried to combine negative campaigning with a personal sob story in order to gain points and tell a sentimental story about an every day American, which is a common tactic. But the McCain apparently didn’t take into account that Joe “The Plumber” Wurzelbacher may or may not be registered to vote for McCain, or anyone else.
    According to Politico.com, people with access to Ohio’s voting files have said that Joe Wurzelbacher is not registered to vote. Bloggers who immediately tried to do research on Wurzelbacher, along with the rest of the national media, quickly jumped on this rumor, especially those in Obama’s camp.
    However, an article in the Toledo Blade contends that Wurzelbacher is registered to vote and has been for 16 years. Wurzelbacher allegedly voted in the Ohio primary for McCain and is a registered Republican.
    Lucas County Board of Elections executive director Linda Home told the Blade that Wurzelbacher’s name may have been misspelled in the voting database, which would explain the confusion.
    The debate over “Joe the Plumber” and whether he is registered to vote is just one of the many details that bloggers and media pundits are trying to find out about him. Katie Couric was the first media personality to get to Wurzelbacher in an interview.
    The pro-Obama supporters and bloggers got another quick talking point from the interview. Wurzelbacher met Obama on the campaign trail and told Couric that Obama performed “a tap dance…almost as good as Sammy Davis. Jr.” The tap dance was most likely metaphorical, a la a tap dance around the issues.
