Don’t worry guys TUPAC is still coming to a theater near you, Summer 2013.

The folks putting out the biopic about the legendary rapper, Morgan Creek Productions recently had to clear up some confusion after Inverness Distribution Ltd, formerly known as Morgan Creek International, Inc., filed a petition May 3rd in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan due to $100 million in debt.

“We’re going full steam ahead with the project,” said Greg Melielcarz, executive vice president of marketing for Morgan Creek Productions.

Even though Morgan Creek International had served as a distributor for films produced by Morgan Creek Productions, Melielcarz clarified that Morgan Creek International “is an entirely different company than Morgan Creek Productions” and that “Morgan Creek Productions is not undergoing bankruptcy.”

“What is happening with Inverness (Morgan Creek International) does not affect us at all,” he said.

Melielcarz also told BlackEnterprise.com that the title role for the TUPAC movie has yet to be cast, even though filming is slated to begin in late summer.

“We haven’t found our Tupac yet,” he said. “But we’re taking our time and making sure we cast the right person.”

TUPAC is scheduled for release in the spring or summer of 2013. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film is being executive produced by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur-Davis.

Phew! For a second there we thought we were gonna have to buy some more posthumous albums to bail that film project out of money trouble.
