After two teasers and all types of “leaked” photos, Beyonce’s
over-hyped highly-anticipated “Run The World” video has been delayed without being assigned a new release date.
Following a screening of the video in New York on Wednesday, Team Bey-Must-Always-Be-Perfect decided that the clip just “wasn’t ready” to come out today like it was supposed to. In other words, the video was not spectacular enough to make us ignore how wack the song is.
The Francis Lawrence-directed music video was originally set to make its way out Friday, May 13. However, VEVO later announced the delay, “OK, bad news: ‘Run The World (Girls)’ won’t be out on Friday like we thought. No new date yet. Beyonce is perfecting it. We’re disappointed too but wanted to let you know as soon as we knew. We’ll out it up as soon as we do get it!”
This delay comes hot on heels of “Run the World (Girls)” disappointing chart performance. After debuting at No. 33 on Billboard Hot 100 earlier last month, the single continues to flop on the U.S. single chart. It’s currently sitting at No. 65 on weekly rundown and occupies No. 163 on iTunes chart.
Talking to Billboard recently, Beyonce admitted the risk of picking the song as her first offering. “It’s definitely riskier than something a bit more…simple. I just heard the track and loved that it was so different: it felt a bit African, a bit electronic and futuristic,” she said.
“It reminded me of what I love, which is mixing different cultures and eras — things that typically don’t go together — to create a new sound. I can never be safe; I always try and go against the grain. As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal. That’s how I’ve gotten to where I am.”
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like going against the grain is working out so well for Bey this time around.
We hear that following the listening session for “4,” which was announced as the album’s official name, Bey and her team decided to take the whole thing back to the drawing board. Luckily, since Beyonce reportedly recorded over 60 songs while getting this project ready, it will probably just be a matter of going through the material again and putting together a better selection.
The team is said to be aiming for a final product with less “Run The World”-like fair and more songs that showcase her vocals.
But that’s not the only change of direction Bey is reportedly considering.
According to a tipster, Beyonce is starting to think that maybe Hubby Hov and his RocNation underlings may not be the right people to handle her music career.
RocNation declined to comment on the situation entirely.
Uh-oh! Could this be the beginning of trouble for Hip-Hop’s ‘royal couple’?
