Charles Barkley is speaking out against homophobia in sports…
NBA legend and current sportscaster, Charles Barkley gives more than his two cents and takes a very risky stand in the homophobic world of sports.
Shortly after Phoenix Suns Executive Rick Welts came out publicly this week, former NBA star Charles Barkley, offered his support and firmly spoke out against anyone, whose personal beliefs have bullied professional athletes into ‘staying in the closet’.
In a recent interview with 106.7 The Fan, Barkely said,
First of all, every player has played with gay guys…It bothers me when I hear these reporters and jocks get on TV and say: ‘Oh, no guy can come out in a team sport. These guys would go crazy.’ First of all, quit telling me what I think. I’d rather have a gay guy who can play than a straight guy who can’t play.
Good move Barkley… or was it? With media in quite the frenzy, could an athlete coming out of the closet affect his or her ability to keep a fan base and make it rain with endorsements?
